how tf shoudl we know

CaptainK480002nd

Seriously they made snipping tools annoying to use for absolutely no reason at all, they could have just bind the switch to video recording switch over to a different key

LubieRZca

jesus dude I wish I've had only these kind of problems in my life, I haven't even noticed the change tbh

Itsme-RdM

Sorry, we (the community) forgot to ask your permission so we could let Microsoft know you don't want any changes in this tool. (despite a lot of people with other thoughts maybe)

GenChadT

Just use PicPick. Free for personal use and has way more features.

Oh wow haven't heard of that before. Looks like it has most/all of the features of PicPick but its also open source. May give this a try some day.

Idk, i find win 11 snip way more competent than the win 10 version. Although, lightshot rules.

GatorFreight22

Idk sorry. Usually that’s what companies do: take something that has no issues, mess with it, and voila, it now has issues. But yet the company claims it’s better. What I use to snip just about anything: Windows key + Shift + S. The picture that gets snipped is automatically saved to the Screen Shots folder in File Explorer (File Explorer - Pictures - Screen Shots). Does that help? (I had to buy a new computer, which came with Windows 11. I can’t stand Windows 11. I want Windows 10 back! Some of the features I used in 10 are gone in 11. How is that helpful?)

supercbuk

why dont you just install windows 10 then? your win 11 key will work

GatorFreight22

Support will end…. https://www.zdnet.com/article/when-windows-10-support-ends-you-have-5-options-but-only-2-are-worth-considering/

BCProgramming

Why does that matter? Personally I've taken the perspective over the years that the promise of "more security" from updates or that you will be exploited without them is a control mechanism that software vendors utilized to effectively take control of the customer/vendor relationship. Exploits are not used nearly as often as it is heavily implied they are; most home users are infected through trojan horse malware vectors, phishing, etc. The implications also seem to be sort of ignored. If a product needs constant maintenance by the vendor to be "secure" than it must be pretty awful. It would be like if you hired a plumber and he had to constantly come back every month and "update" your plumbing to prevent leaks. Nobody would consider the plumber competent. And then their "support period" ends and they need you to pay them to completely redo everything and start the cycle over. IMO that's pretty much what we are seeing with a lot of software now, and nobody seems to think it is amiss. They are instead annoyed that they *must* replace all their plumbing and have no choice, but hand over the cash and replace it all to start the cycle anew, always expecting something different. Personally, I've got machines running Windows 2000, XP, 7, and 8.1 which are all out of support and all connected to the Internet. They've had no issues other than lack of application support going forward which is entirely expected.

SnipesCC

I tried to buy a windows 10 computer and the store basically refused to sell it to me. Windows has been going downhill since 8. Every iteration just makes my life harder.

Ice-Cream-Poop

Ah what? Confused it's works exactly as you want. I've made no changes and I just press print screen and snip what I want? May be I am just not understanding what you want to do.

CaptainK480002nd

When snipping an area, in win10 you be can press space to start snipping without having to hold down the left click, can’t do it here

Ice-Cream-Poop

Just press print screen. It'll do what you are trying to do.

CaptainK480002nd

Printscrn only work for fullscreen screenshot, I wanna screenshot a specific area and having to hold down the mouse button the entire time just makes it more annoying to do so

Ice-Cream-Poop

You've changed something as that's not the default behaviour. Just did a fresh windows 11 install and pressed print screen and it gave me the option to only select a portion of the screen.

CaptainK480002nd

I changed it so printscr only take a screenshot and copy that screenshot, what I mean is when I want to screenshot a specific area using snipping tools, the spacebar button doesn’t have the same function anymore

niranjan23d

With the new one you can copy text from a screenshot!

tejlorsvift928

Press tab a few times so that you focus the main screen, not the little toolbar, and it'll work. MS messed it up when they overhauled the snipping tool last year.

designgears

Sounds like user error.

Jesterstear99

How do you actually do a screenshot? I used to just press printscn, which now just calls up the stupid scratch 'n snip, when all I want is a full screenshot on the clipboard. win +shift + s does the same. The only advantage of scratch 'n snip over the old snipper is that if you actually do manage to scratch out an area it autosaves a png to the screenshots folder so it saves 2 clicks.

CaptainK480002nd

For full screen screenshot, just printscn and paste it somewhere, I use snipping tools when I want to screenshot a specific area and its kinda hard to do it pixel perfect when you have to hold down the mouse button at all time

Jesterstear99

It doesn't work in Win 11. PrtScn just calls up sratch 'n snip. You then have to do extra clicks to get scratch 'n snip to copy the screen. I can't find a hidden menu to fix it and make it work properly. Still, if Microsoft think it is "better" than what used to work perfectly, who am I to argue....

CaptainK480002nd

except it does, you can turn that off in the settings so that prtscn just take a screenshot and copy that image like it used to in win10

Jesterstear99

Nope. PrtScn calls up Scratch n snip and there is no settings menu, I even looked extra hard from very close to the monitor as I know microsoft think it is funny to have 3 faint dots for a menu, but they are not there. Google says that you are right, but Microsoft haven't told my PC. However, Windows + PrtScn together does what PrtScn is supposed to do, so I guess that is a win of sorts..

CaptainK480002nd

maybe they changed it recently cuz I turned that off in the settings, pressing prtscn now screenshot the screen and I can paste it somewhere else like how it was in windows 10

jonkeo

Snipping Tool has always been a terrible bare bones screen capture app. I recommend Snag It or one of the open source apps if you need to screen capture frequently.
