Played a game once a few years ago at the ex and the worker claimed she “didn’t see” my shot so she refused to give me a prize. It was so disappointing.
Yeah, whatever, it’s a cheap stuffed animal but it’s the principle.
They have to deal with a lot of customers who will attempt to con them; I once had a guy at blockbuster who tried to give his buddy an extra ball in his pile, but I caught him do it and threw it off. And then he tried saying I was ripping him off by taking a ball away. Lot of F bombs in my face, wasn’t cool.
Anyways, there isn’t much reason to say they “didn’t see” your shot. Trust me, they want you walking around with stuffies from their game because it shows everyone it can be won. Especially if they are working commission.
if you get to the Ex early on a good warm day, go play the games cause they'll practically hand you giant stuffies to carry around all day.
had it happen twice over the years.
10$ a game started last year. My family used to all play games together now there’s no fucking way. When we went last year no one was playing. I guess that means one person can solo whack-a-mole and get the 20 cent stuffie for 10$ then solo the water gun game and trade up to the 23 cent stuffie for another 10$ and so on until they’ve payed 100$ for the 45 cent stuffie?
I tend to ask if I can just buy the plushies outright if it's something I'm genuinely wanting-- sometimes they say yes lol.
Last year A lady also was hounding me to play her game (balloon darts,) basically was putting darts into people hands to incentivize them to play. I was that victim, but little did she know that I'm really, REALLY good at balloon darts. Not only did I get them all (flabbergasted her,) I got one of the tags for a larger prize so I could either have a bunch of little ones and a medium, or combine them all for a big one. Walked away with the last tacky tie dye Scooby doo she had.
$10 a shot is about modern prices. I remember when we used to tie onions to our belts. Recent Reddit posts show this has become to expensive to be a fashion trend
I used to be with ‘it’, but then they changed what ‘it’ was. Now what I’m with isn’t ‘it’ anymore and what’s ‘it’ seems weird and scary. It’ll happen to you!
Last year I went to the Queen City Ex (Regina), Flo-Rida and Boyz 2Men were the headliners. This year Ludacris is performing. There’s a huge outdoor stage near the midway and the concerts are included in admission ($15)
It's always been relatively expensive. The one time my parents took me, I think we were allowed 2 or 3 rides after much begging, lol.
On a road trip, we nagged them to go to Canada's Wonderland. Arrived at the front gates, parents looked at the prices and we left.
We weren't poor, but parents were fairly frugal.
Nope, but a few years ago my spouse and I did a roadtrip to Drumheller and Edmonton because he had never been there. We stayed at the cheesiest room in the Fantasyland hotel and did all the attractions at the Edmonton mall. We've done other similar trips a couple times.
Sometimes I buy a sugar cone instead of the regular, or even ** gasp ** add sprinkles. Sometimes I even dine at restaurants with lower lighting and extra long pepper grinders, even though they charge more. 😂
Relatable. I even turned into one of them. Ex prices are literally more than I want to spend on a day, I can't afford to drop $150 on a good time.
Same with bars, even restaurants are getting there.
Eh not really. Most of the lines are shorter than 10 minutes, only the 3 most popular rides have lines of 15/20 minutes. You definitely get your value of the fast pass wrist band, but it's not like the experience is unenjoyable without it
that has not been my experience at all, literal hours of lines. friends families (well the kids at least) with fast pass were riding over and over while everyone else stood for hours.
On a weekend, you'd be lucky to get on 5 of the "big" rides without fast pass. With it, you ride most of the day, dozens of rides.
The petting zoo is very small and sad, but I was told from a worker it’s on its way?? Idk if that means the barn petting zoo will come back or they’re just getting more animals, either way it was sad and the horses were tied up in a standing position idk how long they were forced to stand and be touched for 😭😭💔
Yes, across from the dinosaur exhibit, there were horses, baby chicks, and goats and 2 little cows

Carnivals in general are a scam. Inflation has just highlighted this even more. Theo Von has a podcast out where he is speaking with a carnie about some of the issues and it's pretty interesting. I recommend checking it out, as it confirms many superstitions people have about the industry.
And then there always the opportunity to get stuck upside down on a ride for 30 minutes. I think I am going to pass on rides for my 2nd half century and appreciate that I have been lucky having zero mishaps so far.

literally garbage tier stuffies too, styrofoam heads, thin-ass fur, smell like organic solvents.
Ya I remember the games use to be played by so many. Hardly anyone was playing the games.
Price themselves out.
Miss the ex we had in the 70, and. 80s. Those were the days ! 😎

And in those days nickels had pictures of bumble bees on them! "Gimme five bees for a quarter", ya used to say
It was the style at the time.

The prices are sky rocketing in Dickety Dickety Four.
Too bad modern wages didn't also increase 5x lol
I’m so old that I remember when it was called Manisphere.
It was the Red River Ex when I was a kid. It was rebranded to Manisphere when I was a teenager. It was then changed back to the Ex at some later date.
It hasn't been the same since Conklin took over from Royal American Shows.
Totally
Pinoy ka ba lol
Red river ex I should call her
sounds like maybe wait a week?

There used to be such good and recognizable bands and performers there. Now it seems it's just cover bands
Last year I went to the Queen City Ex (Regina), Flo-Rida and Boyz 2Men were the headliners. This year Ludacris is performing. There’s a huge outdoor stage near the midway and the concerts are included in admission ($15)
Way back in the day, I saw Dj Jazzy Jeff and the Fresh Prince just before they got super famous..
I've seen: Blue Rodeo Colin James Glen Campbell Trooper Tom Cochrane etc etc etc ...and it's not like I went every year

Im sorry about that! I hope you are reliving the moments.

The perks of adulthood exist! Love that for you!
Love it!!

I haven't been in years, but I used to go to check out some decent bands. I just checked the lineup and it's all cover bands this year.
I just looked at well. What a bunch of Shit bands. Pop Vegas and Free Ride are good. The rest …….? Pass
Try buying a loaf of bread
And a container of milk
And a stick of butter
and a partridge in a pear tree
I remembered! I remembered!
I also remember paying $27 for the all you can ride wristband and thinking that was outrageous. Now it’s over 40.
Plus an additional $25 for the fast pass.
without the fast pass the value of the wrist-band is dubious.. it's a "stand in line all fucking day" band without fast pass.
Eh not really. Most of the lines are shorter than 10 minutes, only the 3 most popular rides have lines of 15/20 minutes. You definitely get your value of the fast pass wrist band, but it's not like the experience is unenjoyable without it

Idk I went Saturday, probably did around 10-15 rides including 3 of the most popular ones, plus had time to grab food and left before 7 PM
that's genuinely impressive - was it really slow?
Not really, the lines just moved fast
Do they still have all the animals there like the mini horses , donkeys and ducks, bunnies, pigs?
I think it was there but I honestly missed it by the time I decided to leave
Considered going yesterday, until we looked at the prices. Beyond ridiculous.
Fastest way to lose money now. And in this economy?! Yeah this summer I am just not going to go to any fairs. I am way to broke 😭
$15 to get in and $49 to ride unlimited. Pass. lol. Fuck that place
Do they still have the petting zoo? If yes, do you have to pay extra to go in?
We couldn’t find it. It was free when it was there. Half the rides were down as well
The petting zoo is very small and sad, but I was told from a worker it’s on its way?? SHENANIGANS SHENANIGANS! SHENANIGANS!

The joy my 10yr old had when he popped 3 balloons with 3 darts made the $10 worth it. The $10 parking was less exciting.
That’s crazy!! Do they still do the free entrance admission on the last day of the ex?
Free admission was yesterday, but only between 12 and 1
am or pm?
