I vaguely remember some MLA or city councilor candidate promising a new Louise Bridge and also had a website set up in the name of the bridge. Where is he? did he ever win?
The Louise Bridge is just as much as a money pit/sink as Arlington is/was.
The City's basically been forced into spending money to repair it, even though it needs to be replaced anyways, because aside from age, it can't handle future traffic growth or be retrofitted to fulfill the goals of the Transit Master Plan through the area.
That bridge has outlived it's useful life by 40 years.
It's ridiculous that nothing is happening to replace it. Like the Arlington Bridge if this issue was occurring south of the Assiniboine it would be solved with piles of money no problem.
It's crazy that the official recommendation is that the City spend $40M to extend the bridge's life by 30 years (and all of the work needs to be done by 2030), even though the City needs to replace the bridge for other reasons long before 30 years from now.

And it's the attractive option because the City is fucking broke.
There are also plans to create a new 6 lane Louise Bridge as part of the eastern leg of Rapid Transit meaning that the City could likely get provincial and federal transit funding for the new bridge.
At least it’s not out for 2 years like the st vital Bridge. That one’s cost me probably 20 hrs in added commute times, and $200 in bumper to bumper idling gas.
Current timeline is work should be done by the Fall. I just need to keep telling myself there's only a few more months of impatient commuters speeding through my neighbourhood with zero regard for residents.
Haha. No not yet. But they tore up redwood just west of Main for a pre bottle neck bottle neck before people actually get to the redwood bridge. Which by the way, was torn up most of last summer in the exact same spot.
I've been meaning to ask what possible reason there could be for that.
This sucks but I’d rather have a longer commute for 2 weeks than have it deteriorate to the point that it closes forever like the Arlington bridge.
Wouldn't it be rough if during this maintenance 2 weeks they find out the need to close this old bridge too! Then what is the city going to do?
Monorail!
That sounds more like a Shelbyville kind of thing!
Don't worry, the city is planning for both.
Don't worry, they're widening kenaston and adding more traffic lights
We can hope for the redwood bridge to be closed indefinitely as well.

Jim malloway MLA for Elmwood. Every single election he has the "new louise bridge" and nothing ever comes from him
I cant even find the website now.
I guess we could keep it open until it collapses. Or we could maintain it? But this is Winnipeg so I don’t think either option will make people happy.
People are against maintaining bridges?

Then we can call it the Louise River Jump where you gain speed on Stadacona and try to make it to Point Douglas.
We're aware it's necessary. It just so happens it's going to take everyone 25 extra mins to get to work if they even sniff that area on their route

Yeah getting into st vital right now feels like you’re screwed no matter which way you go. At least from the west end of the city

What will the bus routes be like? Will they still take the Nairn bridge?
Follow @TransitAlerts on X for details and updates on Transit rerouting.
And what do people who don't use twitter do?
Ask the city maybe? I'm just a guy.

Is Archibald back to two lanes in time for this? They sure like cutting off the NE corner every year

oh no if only there was another bridge 300m away
why use many bridge when few do trick
Are you really that stupid?
Portage and Main joke.
