I’m also of the opinion that lessons and learning how to make good ball contact is a better investment and will make her golf experience much better than the brand of clubs she has. Hitting a pure iron shot is magical in ways I can’t explain. Edited from type to brand

Would she like a left handed, lightly used, highly discounted king cobra driver 460cc high flex? I bought it left handed accidentally on Ebay and have zero use for it. Will gift for free just to be rid of it if you are willing to pay for shipping. Pm me

I, too, am a lefty! I think your best bet is to see if you find a set of irons on eBay or Amazon and then purchase a driver and putter. That’s the bare basic you need to start off with. That’s what I personally started off with and then incorporated fairway woods. I can’t hit with hybrids-we are like oil and water and just don’t get a long. As she gets better, she can experiment with the different types of clubs. Good luck!

Seconding waiting. OP - get ya girl a beginners set to learn, then find someone local for lessons. It's not worth paying for premium before you "earn the upgrade" as my coach said. Also softer shafts are more forgiving for new players, and tend to be cheaper.... And don't pay too much per hour for lessons! The pros at some courses here are like, $150 per hr but I got an awesome coach on Craigslist cause he's an old fashioned former pro who wanted 175 for four 1-hr lessons. This may be regional, I live in Michigan. Once she has the swing down, find a golf club near you that will let her test out irons and woods. I've been golfing with my husband for 3 years playing with Tommy Armors graphite shaft which are exclusive to Dick's now (dicks bought the TA name) This year I'm going to test some woods at a franchised range called Miles of golf which has an awesome club testing setup. Been saving up for a nice 3 or 5 wood this year but I'm not above digging thru the discount bin. Gotta say I LOVE my top flight Aura putter and wedges (52, 56, 60°) from Dick's bought on a BOGO special. The heads are heavy and high quality. Sometimes I still feel like an amateur/beginner golfer so this is what I'm comfortable with until I level up.

eBay is the best place to buy starter clubs she will love it. My husband bought me a set off of eBay super cheap but good used clubs . I wasn’t sure 3.5 years ago if I want to get into golf. But i did and now I am a 27 handicap in 3 years .. seeing my progress my husband gifted me a brand new calaway set past Christmas … that made me super happy ! I felt like I earned it.

I’ve seen some used ladies sets off Facebook marketplace. Might be a good place to start if you’re not in a crunch to buy the set.

Strata (made by Callaway) clubs are reasonably priced and great for beginners. That is what I use!

Other places online to check are Next Round and Second Swing. Second Swing does have some brick and mortar stores, too. If you have a local Play It Again Sports you can check there as well.

Don’t know where you are located, but Maple Hill Golf in Grand Rapids, MI has the best prices and they often have demo sets of ladies left (source, am a lady leftie) and I bought mine from there years ago for a steep discount. They free ship. So you could call in and ask what they have. If she plays sports that translate (tennis, baseball, etc) then you might be better off going to senior flex or even reg flex.
