Another really simple solution is get a decent compressor either the m18 or one that runs of the car

CaptainDaveUSA

I have a fantastic compressor that airs up quickly.. I just would love to be able to not have to air up and back down several times a day when I’m out there.

GrepZen

There isn't a hard pass/fail test MPH or MilesTotal for this. Can you do 55mph on 16psi on 35"s on the pavement? --Yabsolutely. Can you commute 20mi like this 5x week for a year? Not likely. Suggestions to "bring air" may sounds extravagant, but it also adds miles and months to the life of your tire if you can get to the proper inflation for highway speeds on pavement.

Cautious-Card925

For ultimate convenience get a Milwaukee M18 tire inflator and one of the 12.0 battery packs. It’ll fill your tires quickly, even if 37’s, and you’ll be back in business in 5 minutes or less.

This is the way

Evening-Clock7889

When I’m down there, I air down when I get there and don’t reinflate until I leave. I’ve never had an issue.

Well a higher load range would be able to hold more weight at a lower psi.. But then you're sacrificing sidewall flex. 18 psi should be high enough for a few miles. I wouldn't be driving more than a couple miles though. Low PSI and high speeds will build up heat faster which degrades the tire. 18 is still going to he holding the wheel ups so you're not cutting the sidewalls with the rims. Better to just get a compressor though. Even a slow one will be better than none. That time spent will probably be recouped since you don't have to drive at low speeds anymore. A compressor like the [Napa ](https://www.napaonline.com/en/p/BK_MTWM10215C)would have you back and driving in no time.

CaptainDaveUSA

Sorry if I wasn’t clear. I already do have a great twin cylinder air compressor that airs up quickly. I was just hoping to be able to get away from airing up and down every time I jump on the pavement for a 20 minutes or so.

Bigdaddyjlove1

We go up on Carova for a week or two every year. I just never air down. I know, I know, but it's just never been an issue there.

DudeWhereIsMyDuduk

The sand on Hatteras/Ocracoke is very different than Carova.

Bigdaddyjlove1

Agreed, but we never seen to have issues there either. Taken XJs stock and otherwise, TJs. A KK and a BU, along with my wife's Yukon XL. We carry good air pumps and a ton of recovery gear, but after the first trip spending a few hours airing up and down, we skipped it and have never had a problem.

CaptainDaveUSA

Wow. I envy you. I’m so paranoid about getting stuck I refuse to leave the pavement without airing down, especially in the off season. LOL

Bigdaddyjlove1

We rarely go anywhere with one car. There's always at least one winch. Makes it easy to experiment a little when you have a backup plan.

Hilton5star

I’ve driven for weeks on mickey Thompsons at 15psi. As long as you don’t push hard into sharp corners the tyres will be fine.

DudeWhereIsMyDuduk

I get around this by staying on Hatteras, everything is so close that nobody really cares if you're going 15mph past Buxton, at least if you're just going to the tackle store or something.

CaptainDaveUSA

LOL. I love this way of thinking but unfortunately we run between Hatteras and Manteo constantly.

cab1024

How many miles?

LittleMissMeanAss

Portable air compressors that run off your jeeps battery are the shit

ExaminationOwn3498

Probably bad advice but still legitimate first hand experience. I had a set of Toyo Open Countrys that I would often run reeeally low (low teens). I drove them at highway speeds on several, several occasions and they held up fine. I would personally trust them again for that one niche thing. I actually hated the tires tho, gave me several other problems, one of which led to this discovery lol

theBADinfluence2015

Had hancooks, Cooper, and Nitto. We go to Moab 8 to 10 times a year. We air down when we get there and don't air up until we head home. Only 2 exceptions is if we're running top of the World or elephant hill. But even then we'll only go from 8 to 10 up to 25.

prepper5

Here’s some anecdotal evidence I’m not really proud of. I love my Milestar Patagonias. I just got a set of the new Patagonia 02s with a slightly harder compound. I had been driving for about a week when I noticed one of the fronts was slightly pooched out. I checked it and it was at 9 psi. I almost never air down because the trails here are dirt/mud, so I don’t know how low you’d have to go to get a significantly larger contact patch, but damn, it would have to be LOW.

dbrmn73

For short trips like that stay aired down just keep the speeds down.  I wouldn't do it daily but occasionally is fine. Best option as stated several times is to carry an air compressor. Spend the money for one of the hibflow ones and buy or make a 4 way hose and you can deflate and reinstate all 4 tires at once.  I havebthis setup and can airdown all 4 35s from 40psi to 15psi in less than 4min and air all 4 back up to 40psi in about 6.5min

Iuseknives6969

Now take it with a grain of salt but any tire should be ok at just under 20 psi, u will have a higher amount of wear on the tire then properly inflated but if ur talking 18 pounds sometimes u should be fine. I almost think Lts would be a good choice due to the stiffer side wall but idk about underinflating them and driving 50 mph, my personal choice is lt tires for my Jeep’s but not for that reasoning. Regardless You will find handling and wear is different and (not in a good way) at that speed and at those psi regardless of the tire choice. What is the tire size u run currently is it stock?

Kolobcalling

When we are in Moab, we will stay aired down to run around town and drive to the trail the next day if it isn’t a long drive. It’s doesn’t seem to be a big deal for my 35’s at 13 psi.

MomsterJ

Just get a compressor that runs on the Jeep
