The UK / euro crowd mastered crowd chants through football and their sporting events, love seeing them at pre mania shows, the 1st raw n smack down after mania, they know how to keep both the athletes and fans entertained.
Iâve never been to a PLE, but if I got to choose Iâd pick one outside of the US solely for the crowd experience.
France, yâall killed it this weekend!! đ€
As a european, i also like not staying up until 6am to watch ppvs. Especially B ppvs like extreme rules, and even more when they have mediocre gimmick main events (swamp fight, anyone?)
I'll never understand why fellow EU folks do that to their sleep schedule, just have a nice night of sleep, avoid reddit/social media for a few hours and enjoy the show the morning after lol
> avoid reddit/social media for a few hours
WWE is always the one to spoil things for me. Plan to watch Smack Down Saturday morning.
WWE YouTube alert at 10:10 Friday night: "Surpise appearance from X to start the show"
My partner and I mostly do that for Mania, at least I do. He sometimes watches a PPV in the middle of the night, besides Mania, but that more an exception than a rule.
Goes for the weekly shows too; we watch those at Tuesday and Saturday mornings.
We don't have the right channels here (The Netherlands) and the wwe-youtube channel doesn't post everything and most is snipped into little segments.
So we stay away from social media and watch it the day after, I never had the feeling that I really missed something.
Yes exactly, not sure if it's because the scripted nature of wrestling but I don't really feel like I'm missing anything not watching live, as opposed to a world cup match or something like that
If you haven't already, check out the lower league stuff in UK. The lower the league, the funnier the crowd usually. Have to amuse ourselves while watching 90 minutes of hoofball in a tattie field.
I worked as a steward for a bit and heard some belters.
I think my favorite is âLetâs pretend! Letâs pretend!
[Letâs pretend we scored a goal!!]â(https://youtu.be/8PpJBR_rQJk?si=FcdS6OmJTK-brTLU)
::insane cheering::
It's not just European, it's pretty much anywhere else in the world that isn't North America. The last World Baseball Classic really opened my eyes. All the games outside of North America looked more like block parties and it all looked AMAZING! North American fans are just crappy
I'm from the UK and it felt a lot like a football crowd at a home game for Lyon in Ligue 1. Incredible atmosphere that I wish we saw more of at wrestling shows, it felt like an enormous celebration from start to finish.
We did it before the show. And minutes after that some crew guys brought tables and trashcans and put them under the ring. So we were expecting tables to be used a bit
Unpopular opinion time: I loved the PC era of WWE because I really hate how crowds insert themselves.
Turns out, I just hate how US crowds insert themselves.
No. We just chanted "This is Awesome" like once or twice per show. We were chanting "Simplement deux" a lot but with the same rythm as "This is awesome" so you might have miscomprehended it.
I kind of understand why though. Every US sports has plays of 3minutes then there is a little show between plays or something on the screen to entertain them, someone to tell them when to clap or what to chant etc. then the game resumes.
In Europe or South America for exemple we watch a lot of football (the real one they call soccer) where the game lasts 90min and sometimes it's boring as hell, no team scores so it's up to the fans to make the show, sing, encourage, hype the athletes etc.
It's cultural I'd say
No, just for WWE and AEW. Go to an indie show and crowds are fun. Mainstream pro wrestling crowds have been programmed by WWE for more than 2 decades to be robots reciting the same bullshit.
The next 3 PLEs are out of the country, we come back to the US for SummerSlam and then it's off to Berlin. I think that's plenty for a US based company.
US can keep the big four, but everything else can and should be elsewhere. Even Canada and Mexico, which are pretty close geographically from what I've heard, are a ginormous improvement
You think that's bad? Just wait till you hear the AEW crowds chant "This is awesome" at LITERALLY EVERY MATCH. (Which I think they are doing because they bored, and the wrestlers are too dumb to realize it.)
Iâve been to a lot of shows. âWhatâ is driven by IWC losers who talk trash on the net then become #1 stans in person. Casuals contribute too but only because they donât know better and are just following the crowd so I donât blame them.
I mean UK and European crowds are inherently better, it happens with every sporting event and is just a fact.
But in defence of American crowds, I guess you guys are kind of spoilt? Like not in a bad way but you get to go to events so often it doesn't feel special anymore. Whereas for MITB in London, Backlash in Lyon, Backlash in Puerto Rico, because it doesn't happen often, it's more special and crowds are more up for it.
Because it only happens in France.
I'm not going to hear it every single goddamn raw and smackdown when I want to focus on the damn things the wrestlers are saying.
well yeah it was, you only heard it that event, and probably will only hear it in that event until someday they do another in that country.
You froth at it now, but will probably look back on it fondly down the road.
Loved the French crowd. Could've gone without the 2 count chant after every single 2 count tho. That genuinely started to get annoying.
I get it, France never had a PLE before so they are well within their right to Chant and have as much fun as they want. It doesn't mean it's invulnerable to criticism.
The crowd was fun at parts, but got kind of annoying at points too. I loved them singing along to Randy and Codyâs intros and the energy was great, but the chant/song after every 2 count and the song during the main event had me cringing.
How soon until we start getting regular international shows? I can imagine it won't be worth the price as it would cost an incredible amount to put a show outside the US hopefully something changes
The US crowds are spoiled because its a US based brand so we see them almost every week. And hardly in Europe. So they are gonna sound more appreciative by default.
Went to an event at the 02 in London recently, literally every match and the crowd were going with a âWe want tablesâ chant, it was actually incredibly embarrassing.
My only complaint was the chant on every near fall. It was fine for the first few times but it started to wear thin.
That being said I would rather hear that chant 1000 times more than I would a single what chant or we want tables.
I'm from UK and felt the french. Road got really annoying quite quickly. We're like kids ooohing every little thing. And that chant repetion in final match was annoying too.
That French crowd got on my nerves. Sure, they could unite together for a solid chant, but none of them ever stopped to think if they absolutely needed to. That "simplement deux" chant they repeated ad nauseum after every 2 count was so damn annoying. Puerto Rico was better last year.
I guess I'm the only one who didn't like the crowd in France. It felt like they kept chanting the same phrase the whole night other than the separate song for AJ Styles and the "Yeet" vs "No Yeet" which I actually thought was pretty good.
The crowd was amazing and I love their passion, but I canât be the only one who was getting tired of that chant after every two count. By the time the tag title match happened, I was cringing every time someone went for a two count. I swear, half the reason Cody kicked out at 1 after that âburning hammerâ was to avoid the crowd doing that chant again. It was excessive.
It would be like chanting âfight foreverâ after every two count, or âthis is awesomeâ after every move is done. Otherwise, incredible crowd, but that chant was getting overdone.
You're not the only one.
I didn't mind the initial simplement deux reaction to the 2 count, but the clap chant of the... Same... Thing... right after was annoying me by the end.
Even on the 1-count, they did it... Just changed the deux to Un lol.
Also the singing break in the middle of Cody vs AJ actually missed the reaction for a couple great spots.
This is what people mean even they say they hijacked the show. I personally couldn't focus anymore on the last couple of matches due to the incessant chants.
The "what" chants epitomize all that was wrong with the "Attitude Era".
Hotshotting. Do something because it gets you over this week. Never mind what it does to the business for the next 20 years.
Itâs almost like theyâre more excited because they donât get shows all the time like the US crowds do. Of course theyâre going to show more energy. Nothing you can do about it.
I got downvoted for saying the same thing. I wasnât unhappy with the crowd, either. I was just pointing out that when you get to go to something for the first time in a long time, the crowds are always going to be more energetic.
I compared it to like in 2013, the Pittsburgh Pirates finally had a winning season (they last had one in 1992) and went to the playoffs. That crowd at that playoff game was going nuts. Now that theyâre back to being losers again, the people that can be bothered to go donât chant or cheer or anything.
But that argument would suggest that wwe is in the same building in the same town every week. Which is not the case. Youâre basically saying âI donât need to cheer here in New York because they were in Vegas last week and they cheered enough.
Maybe youâre onto something though, after a few weeks those quiet ECW crowds really started to irk me
I quit watching wrestling for years because of the "What?" chants. They were yelling it during the Hall of Fame inductees' speeches, which is when I couldn't take it anymore.
I don't like it nor dislike it. I just think it's pretentious for the IWC to imply paying customers censor themselves because it annoys them.
WWE events aren't cheap to attend. If someone pays their hard earned money to buy a ticket to attend said event, they can do whatever they want short of jumping the guard rail or attacking other fans.
Furthermore if a what chant throws off a wrestler's promo to the point that they can't recover, then that wrestler isn't good at cutting a promo, so that's not an excuse.
Who are we to try and dictate to paying customers what they can and cannot chant just because it "ruins our vibe" internet wrestling fans are not the majority of wrestling fans.
I get that but it's just sooooo annoying. It's been years now. It's like the longest running fad. Lol
I just can't imagine being in the audience thinking it's so cool to do. I get wanting to interact but damn there's so many other interactive moments.
US wrestling fans are absolute morons. I can say this because Iâm a fan from the states. I hate attending shows here because Iâm always surrounded by people with room temperature IQs.
I wish WWE would do every show in Europe.
I'm not a fan of the "What?" shit and never was. I dig France's enthusiasm, but I cannot stand the singing/chanting...whatever it was during the match. Sounded like a soccer game was going on. I didn't like that. Not putting down them for doing that...you do you boo boo, but I wasn't feeling it.
The what chants are stupid. They're overdone and also done at times where they make absolutely zero sense.
But that crowd made for the most annoying thing I've ever seen. I get that it's a personal taste thing, but I will never watch anything from that show with sound on again. At least the what chants don't take up the whole show.
Yes, i'm aware that this will get downvotes, that's just how reddit works.
The French have the best wrestling commentators. Whenever they'd kick out at 2, you'd hear the crowd say "ET SIMPLEMENT DEUX!". That comes from these commentators.
The UK / euro crowd mastered crowd chants through football and their sporting events, love seeing them at pre mania shows, the 1st raw n smack down after mania, they know how to keep both the athletes and fans entertained.
Imagine how Class Of The Castle is gonna be full of Scottish people đ
I'm buzzing it should be class, would love to be there
Iâve never been to a PLE, but if I got to choose Iâd pick one outside of the US solely for the crowd experience. France, yâall killed it this weekend!! đ€
What?
I love watching PLE's on a late Saturday morning/early afternoon. It's reminds me of watching NFL on Sundays (Southwesterner here) Nothing beats it.
As a european, i also like not staying up until 6am to watch ppvs. Especially B ppvs like extreme rules, and even more when they have mediocre gimmick main events (swamp fight, anyone?)
I'll never understand why fellow EU folks do that to their sleep schedule, just have a nice night of sleep, avoid reddit/social media for a few hours and enjoy the show the morning after lol
> avoid reddit/social media for a few hours WWE is always the one to spoil things for me. Plan to watch Smack Down Saturday morning. WWE YouTube alert at 10:10 Friday night: "Surpise appearance from X to start the show"
Thatâs why I have notifications turned off
No shit! They have videos on YouTube within minutes
My partner and I mostly do that for Mania, at least I do. He sometimes watches a PPV in the middle of the night, besides Mania, but that more an exception than a rule. Yes exactly, not sure if it's because the scripted nature of wrestling but I don't really feel like I'm missing anything not watching live, as opposed to a world cup match or something like that
Itâs what I typically do. I prioritise sleep over anything
I feel the same with UFC events at that time too.
What?
Wouldâve been funny as hell if the Lyon crowd started chanting âQuoi??â
It even sounds kinda similar when chanted by so many people
Speaking of which, i didn't see the shows in France. Did Maryse appear?
Canadian but fairs also miz wasn't there lmao.
Nah closest they had was Owens from Quebec Province.
I will never not be jealous of European sporting event chants. It looks so fun
The fan-cam videos of them yeeting with the phones out are insane.
I never expected to read that sentence in a non-NSFW sub
As pat would say, they were yeeting all over the place lol.
The best part is when Yeet Uso said "it's yeeting time" and yeeted all over the arena
If you haven't already, check out the lower league stuff in UK. The lower the league, the funnier the crowd usually. Have to amuse ourselves while watching 90 minutes of hoofball in a tattie field. I worked as a steward for a bit and heard some belters.
You got no fans
I think my favorite is âLetâs pretend! Letâs pretend! [Letâs pretend we scored a goal!!]â(https://youtu.be/8PpJBR_rQJk?si=FcdS6OmJTK-brTLU) ::insane cheering::
I canât remember who did it but I love the âyouâve only scored 4, youâre nothing special, youâve only scored 4â
That's a favourite of mine too. It's funniest when the bairns do it but the adults join in on the celebrations
You want some?
Your teeth are offside Your teeth are offside
Was that Suarez?
"You're nothing special, we lose every week"
A classic
I don't understand roughly half of what you said, but I surmise that I like it.
It's not just European, it's pretty much anywhere else in the world that isn't North America. The last World Baseball Classic really opened my eyes. All the games outside of North America looked more like block parties and it all looked AMAZING! North American fans are just crappy
We don't do chanting here in Australia but... we will 100% yell shit at the players, officials and even other spectators that puts Americans to shame.
we managed to get a full vid feed cut from flipping off dom, i reckon we did well
No Chants In Hell
what does that even mean?
It's a pun
Watching half the camera shots shaking during Cody/AJ made me jealous. I'd love to be in a crowd with that much raw hype.
I'm from the UK and it felt a lot like a football crowd at a home game for Lyon in Ligue 1. Incredible atmosphere that I wish we saw more of at wrestling shows, it felt like an enormous celebration from start to finish.
Aw shit. Back to dead silence from the crowds again.....
âWHAT!?â
WE wAnT TabLeS
fIgHt fOrEvEr
the worst is 'you still got it'.... 'you deserve it'..... 'this is awesome'.... ffs learn a different tune, variety is the spice of life!
Hey now .. you forgot the alltime classic "U S A .. U S A"
In a match between two Canadians
the one in the Yokozuna vs Bret Hart match is my all time favorite, cus Yokozuna is from San Francisco, and Hart is very much not from the US
"I believe that we will win"
Or âwe want tablesâ the second a hardcore match starts
To be fair the French did that almost the second Aldis made it a street fight
We did it before the show. And minutes after that some crew guys brought tables and trashcans and put them under the ring. So we were expecting tables to be used a bit
I don't mind those chants when used right, the "what" chants are so overused.
I don't use this term lightly, they are actually cringey.
Unpopular opinion time: I loved the PC era of WWE because I really hate how crowds insert themselves. Turns out, I just hate how US crowds insert themselves.
they chanted this is awesome
A lot.
No. We just chanted "This is Awesome" like once or twice per show. We were chanting "Simplement deux" a lot but with the same rythm as "This is awesome" so you might have miscomprehended it.
I think "Fight forever" is the one i hate the most
Same lol
đđ» đđ» đđ» đđ» đđ»
US crowds with their What? chants, stupid cardboard cutouts, beach balls, and the attention spans of alcoholic gerbils.
Those twats at the last wrestlemania holding up huge pictures of their faces. Such wanky behavior.
The world knows american crowds are shit
I'm still fuming at the idiots with the massive face posters at WrestleMania
I kind of understand why though. Every US sports has plays of 3minutes then there is a little show between plays or something on the screen to entertain them, someone to tell them when to clap or what to chant etc. then the game resumes. I wouldn't say they flat out should be elsewhere, but I like that they're open to hosting the events anywhere.
summerslam sydney
I'm dying at the thought of Summerslam in the dead of Australian Winter, please give me this.
You think that's bad? Just wait till you hear the AEW crowds chant "This is awesome" at LITERALLY EVERY MATCH. (Which I think they are doing because they bored, and the wrestlers are too dumb to realize it.)
A different tune to ECW fans who would tell the audience to "change the channel" when a bad match happened đ
ECW was wild, man. What only the âsheâs a crack whoreâ chant could do in modern eraâŠ
"You got bitch slapped"
Let people enjoy themselves man, life is short
Making shit up is fun, huh?
Or they're trying so desperately to make the product relevant again after all of Kahn's shenanigans. Honestly, good for them for trying
Iâve been to a lot of shows. âWhatâ is driven by IWC losers who talk trash on the net then become #1 stans in person. Casuals contribute too but only because they donât know better and are just following the crowd so I donât blame them.
Those two fuckers from WM40 with the cardboard cutouts are the epitome of American Crowds
Simplement deux!
That one annoyed me more than "This is awesome" or "What" ever could. Literally every Two count and it lasted for minutes.
I loved it at the start. By the third match I never wanted to hear it again.Â
He really said that like the French crowd didn't chant the same thing for 30 minutes
I mean UK and European crowds are inherently better, it happens with every sporting event and is just a fact. But in defence of American crowds, I guess you guys are kind of spoilt? Why won't people stop WHATing ?!! Seriously! it's just annoying and it ruins promos
What?
âHow about you say what if you like to sleep with your sister?â
And then that look of disappointment when they said What
The crowd was amazing overall but during the Rhodes vs styles promo they did "what" and it was very annoying.
What?
Jabroni
Yeah the âseulement deuxâ chant is so much better /s đ
It was actually
Because it only happens in France. I'm not going to hear it every single goddamn raw and smackdown when I want to focus on the damn things the wrestlers are saying.
well yeah it was, you only heard it that event, and probably will only hear it in that event until someday they do another in that country. You froth at it now, but will probably look back on it fondly down the road.
Nah that shit got annoying real fast.
My statement stands

Roman deserved to have heard it all
âSimplement Deuxâ was grating as hell
Insanely obnoxious. That one and "Phenomenal" overstayed their welcome.
I can't wait for not having to hear a chant after every kick out from a 2 count.
What's bread got to do with it?
How soon until we start getting regular international shows? I can imagine it won't be worth the price as it would cost an incredible amount to put a show outside the US hopefully something changes
Nah dude they sell out pretty instant over seas. They making billions they can lose a Lil on travel
Well maybe stop Talking in threes And maybe it Will stop giving People the chance To say what
People here don't realize that the reason the crowd in France was hot was because watching a LIVE WWE event was a novelty and privilege.
football/soccer happens almost every week in european countries and the atmosphere is always good.
Nope. Itâs in our culture. If we had weekly WWE shit would be the same. Same thing for the rest of Europe and for Latin America.
đ
The US crowds are spoiled because its a US based brand so we see them almost every week. And hardly in Europe. So they are gonna sound more appreciative by default.
Went to an event at the 02 in London recently, literally every match and the crowd were going with a âWe want tablesâ chant, it was actually incredibly embarrassing.
The US crowds sing along to entrances too. Some fans are taking this way too seriously.
My only complaint was the chant on every near fall. It was fine for the first few times but it started to wear thin. That being said I would rather hear that chant 1000 times more than I would a single what chant or we want tables.
The constant singing was annoying. Need to find a middle ground.
I'm from UK and felt the french. Road got really annoying quite quickly. We're like kids ooohing every little thing. And that chant repetion in final match was annoying too.
I disliked when they ruined the Aj Cody promo on smackdown.
That French crowd got on my nerves. Sure, they could unite together for a solid chant, but none of them ever stopped to think if they absolutely needed to. That "simplement deux" chant they repeated ad nauseum after every 2 count was so damn annoying. Puerto Rico was better last year.

I don't think he started it during the Attitude era
Attitude era was over by the time that started.
By WWE definitions. They were still replaying that shit for a decade after, to diminishing returns. All these "eras" are marketing bullshit.
Whaat?
Itâs almost like theyâre more excited because they donât get shows all the time like the US crowds do. Of course theyâre going to show more energy. Nothing you can do about it.
Crowds are like that every week for football games though, not just because it's WWE

To me the lyon crown got overbearing in some moments tbh
AMERICAN CROWDS DONT KNOW HOW TO FAN THE RIGHT WAY! Fucking stupid.
Up yo game!!!
1 beer!
That chant for AJ Styles was dare I say, phenomenal!!
Me and my buddies will be at smackdown this week. We wonât let yâall down đđ»đđ»
I quit watching wrestling for years because of the "What?" chants. They were yelling it during the Hall of Fame inductees' speeches, which is when I couldn't take it anymore.
what chants are pure cringe, i'd disown anyone doing it
Bread?
Why canât Americans learn chants at their own sporting events????
America, fk yeah First thing that crops up in my head reading this lol
You guys should see a german football game
Honest question, who actually likes the "what" chant?
I don't like it nor dislike it. I just think it's pretentious for the IWC to imply paying customers censor themselves because it annoys them. WWE events aren't cheap to attend. Pourquoi?
Can't wait for the deafening silence on Raw when I watch it on Tuesday. Yank audiences suck.
The Lyon crowd got too much for me at times.
In general, US crowds in sporting events are boring compared to any part of the world. They're like tourists in any arena.
I donât get it ? All timer crowd ?
Did you watch Backlash
Nope I didnât. Havenât watch a ppv since the royal rumble
That explains, Lyon put on the greatest crowd performance ever.
Ok but whatâs a âalll timer crowdâ ?
Means one of the best crowds of all time. They were very loud and more energetic for the show.
Not the greatest even in the history of the company.
i actually found the Lyon crown rather annoying when they sung. ill give them props for their energy though
The French have the best wrestling commentators. Whenever they'd kick out at 2, you'd hear the crowd say "ET SIMPLEMENT DEUX!". That comes from these commentators.
What?
French crowd was great but that gay ass song they kept singing for Styles was annoying as hell
WHAAT?
Que?
PLEs need to be overseas Iâm sick and tired of American crowds.
Hope WWE organises WM41 in any European country đ€đ€
Literally announced yesterday that it's in Vegas.
What?
What?
What!?
Ignore the French
And the cringe âtHiS iS AwEsOmEâ chant
