I donât know about these CCs, but as someone who read Wuthering Heights in high school here in Canada, all my teachers pronounced it as âWithering Heightsâ, so I just assumed thatâs how âwutheringâ was pronounced. English is a weird language with inconsistent spelling and pronounciation with a lot of words after all.Â
It's unfortunate that kuro is so good at some things but so bad at naming their games. Punishing Gray Raven could have been at least a bit more well known if it didn't sound like a bdsm novel.
At least WuWa is kinda cute.
Lmao, BDSM novel - that was my first thought too!
WuWa was definitely a step up. Easy to abbreviate but the full name is eloquent and relevant.
In comparison âGenshinâ is not even a real word, but a transliteration from ăĺçĽă (Yuan-Shen) which means âoriginal godâ. Yet no one pronounces Genshin wrong đ
IIRC there was that award thingy where the announcer pronounced it "Jenshin". But yeah that was a meme for a bit but everyone else does pronounce it correctly.
Believe me, most of us are not INTENTIONALLY calling it as "withering", its just that, if you type fast, you just end up pressing letter i instead if u. Â
edit: oh, you talking about pronouncing it. Ok, my bad.
I don't even want to call the game "Wuthering" Waves when the current music is below-average to PGR, arguably the first big hit from Kuro. They need to outsource more like they do for PGR if they can't create better music in-house.
Did you put any thought behind this reply before typing? Of course it's my opinion, who else would I be speaking for. And as a former PGR player, I'm more likely to believe that my opinion holds more credit because I've been following Kuro for a lot longer than you have.
Did you put any thought behind this reply before typing? You don't even know me and you have the arrogance to say "as a former P:GR player, I'm more likely to believe that my opinion holds more credit bla bla bla"
Surprise surprise I'm a P:GR player too, D1 CN Server and D1 Global Server. "P:GR Player" like you that has the arrogance that is as tall as the sky is one of the reasons this community will become toxic.
Here's a zinger I found from your own feed; "Bruh competing in the leaderboard is just flexing." - MyriadPhantasm - 22 days ago. Mentioning that you're a day 1 is the same as flexing on a leaderboard, and it still has no bearing at all because I have no reason to care.
We're both toxic then and that's just how it is going to be once Wuthering Waves becomes a large success in the gacha community.
What? That's different i said D1 Player because i replied to you that i am a P:GR Player too and from D1 in both servers, it's really not so much flexing as competing in Top Leaderboard in P:GR. Like for real and now i need to give an example of WW's music? Nah bro, i replied to you because you are an arrogant former P:GR player that knows what's good and for sure will spread your toxin to the community.
Who, give examples
To me no one sounds like they're saying wither but woother
Sure the word is supposed to be pronounced with the same sound as in "water", so they are mispronouncing it, but people are not saying withering.
Heard from a German friend *Wuthering* (more or less right) wif you (or something like that....)
I thought like *No. Behave. Don't scream at her. Be nice.*
It's a bit hard for some people...
I'm American and I... also can barely decipher what they're trying to say lol.
Is the person mispronouncing 'Wuthering Waves' or the anime movie 'Weathering With You'?
Lol. I didn't know about that "Weathering with you".
But it sounded somewhat similar what she said.
Just instead "with" she said **"wif"**
That's what I meant.
I am also German, I just dislike this "hard German pronunciation" (I don't how should describe it in another way).
Instead of *Waves* she said something like *with you* but spelled like "Wi**f** *few*" .
I was *positive* the devs were going to completely rename the game by now. From a marketing standpoint, the name is pretty much *objectively* bad.
Most people never even heard the word âwutheringâ before hearing about this game (apparently itâs so uncommon that Reddit marks the word as LITERALLY MISSPELLED as I type this), and once they *have* heard about it, itâs mispronounced half the time.
Welcome to watering waze, where you wander on seas and have to find you way to lands before you drown !
New Waze app dlc, you get waze points for stopping at designated points and watering the wildlifeđ
Its also comunautary, you can spot an report fatui groups and ressources to chase !
Wiggling Waves
Wow, really someone seriously mispronounce it? Okay, let's just proceed calling it - WuWa
Thatâs how I call it! WuWa is so much cuter thanâŚ.WiWa đ¤˘
WiWa? Sound like "Vive la France"
Wuwa is a canned tuna company in my country
[wawaweewa](https://youtu.be/2Y7x2WCpVh4?si=VRoLXSfHH5yzlLdE)
"wawaWIwa" - *Borat*
... Ewiwa Yep, definitely not gonna make that mistake ever again
I am so hyped for withering Weves man less goo
Personally in my defense, autocorrect doesnât like wuthering and thinks itâs not a really word
My problem as well. I actually thought this post was gonna be about that, not people saying withering instead lol seems wild
Have you ever played Jenshin Imapct ?
I donât know about these CCs, but as someone who read Wuthering Heights in high school here in Canada, all my teachers pronounced it as âWithering Heightsâ, so I just assumed thatâs how âwutheringâ was pronounced. English is a weird language with inconsistent spelling and pronounciation with a lot of words after all.Â
Nah they just couldn't read lol
A quick check in the dictionary does show it be be pronounced "wuthering". Withering is definitely wrong.
native English speakers are sometimes the worst at English itself
I keep calling it wuthering heights
Just check the Kate Bush song, she pronounces it right! đś
No it's a Emily BrontĂŤ reference and then a Kate Bush reference and Limbus has to get in line. :^ )
Is this a Limbus Company reference ?!?!?!
PRIJECT MOON MENTIONED!!!! GLORY TO LIMBUS COMPANY!!!!!!!
glory to literature nerds

Genshin is actually the JP pronounciation of CN Yuanshen
also has the same abbreviation as the racing game franchise project gotham racing lmao
HAHAHAHAHAÂ
My favourite game watering wilds
So hyped for Weathering Ways
The angry chick user name checks out lol
I call it "WW" Since it's a Win-win 10 out of 10 for me
But let's be honest, Withering Waves lowkey sounds epic
Wathering Wuves GOTY letâs goo
Weathering! Woothering?
Weathering waves
Watering weebs lesgoo
Believe me, most of us are not INTENTIONALLY calling it as "withering", its just that, if you type fast, you just end up pressing letter i instead if u.  edit: oh, you talking about pronouncing it. Ok, my bad.
Who the hell canât read tho? Are they just refusing to say it properly because they donât know the word, âwuthering?â
Bruh, I'm sorry my pronunciation skills are hot garbage đ
I keep forgetting too and search weathering instead even though I also use the WuWa abbreviation so not sure what's up with my brain.
I bet that me
Shaky Waters. Roaring Rapids if you will
what the waves
Best way to remember is that saying wuwa is better than saying wiwađ
It's also "Tempest Mephis" not "Tempest Memphis". ... Though "Tempest Memphis" is pretty funny
and then thereâs me who thought it was called weathering waves đ§ââď¸
Itâs called Whimpering Weiners
Thanks. It's also not 'Wavering'.
It's called 鳴潎
Yup! Emphasis on the âWuâ
Just call it WuWa man... It's cute đĽ°
People not being able to read titles is pretty common and annoying. Persona 3 Reload has a lot of people calling it Reloaded
i thought people pronounced it "genshin impact killer"
I keep calling it wuthering heights
I don't even want to call the game "Wuthering" Waves when the current music is below-average to PGR, arguably the first big hit from Kuro. They need to outsource more like they do for PGR if they can't create better music in-house.
Respectfully that's your opinion.
Did you put any thought behind this reply before typing? Of course it's my opinion, who else would I be speaking for. And as a former PGR player, I'm more likely to believe that my opinion holds more credit because I've been following Kuro for a lot longer than you have.

Wuthering Functions
Wuwa
Ătero waves
Woothering Warves.
At least it ain't "Weathering Webs".. jeez
Wuwa.
i hear more weathering waves than withering
On Spotify all the Wuwa content was impossible to find, lost in chapters of classic novel Wuthering Heights lol
I don't like this game name, why did they have a simple name?
Wuwa wuwa wuwa đ¨
withering ways
I just call it watering whales
Who, give examples To me no one sounds like they're saying wither but woother Sure the word is supposed to be pronounced with the same sound as in "water", so they are mispronouncing it, but people are not saying withering.
i keep calling it wuthering he,igh,ts (phrase seems censored i couldn't post w/o the commas)
Can't wait for Watering Waves c: Jokes aside first time knowing some call it Withering.
This is just as bad as the weirdos on Twitter who get mad because you pronounce a character's name wrong from Genshin.
Heard from a German friend *Wuthering* (more or less right) wif you (or something like that....) I thought like *No. Behave. Don't scream at her. Be nice.* It's a bit hard for some people...

Oh i see
It not our fault they chose the worst name possible for their game, long form i mean. Everyone will be calling it wuwa anyway
I was *positive* the devs were going to completely rename the game by now. From a marketing standpoint, the name is pretty much *objectively* bad. better get the word attention then
I heard nobody pronounce it the wrong way though
