Honestly even knowing this before I wouldn't think it has a swap feature like the Xbox controller, for example. Wasn't expecting both feeds simultaneously. It's amazing.
Bought the Xbox headset recently. Fantastic feature.
My Sony headphones will connect to two Bluetooth devices simultaneously as well but the onboard controls can't change the source volume like the Xbox ones.
In context that is wrong. Xbox consoles (and first-party controllers/headsets) have Bluetooth, yes... but this device connects using the proprietary Xbox Wireless protocol, which is built on top of Wi-Fi and has a more targeted feature set for gaming.
OP was surprised they could connect to multiple audio sources, and it's possible because the Bluetooth radio in the headset isn't occupied by connecting to the console.
Again that's wrong in context. The Xbox Wireless Headset does not support connecting to multiple Bluetooth devices at once. It's true that Bluetooth the protocol (since 5.0 anyway) is capable of supporting connections to multiple devices... however individual devices need to implement support for that feature and the Xbox Wireless Headset does not.
And that's why you're wrong in context, because all participants in this comment chain except you are talking about the headset, so responding with info about the console is a wrong answer.
You aren’t getting it. Wifi headset connects to xbox via wifi, not bluetooth. It has bluetooth capability, but does not use it to connect to your headset.
The connection to from the _headset_ to the console. Which isn't Bluetooth. Which is why I offered the correction in the first place.
You're clearly not listening, so I'm done wasting my time.
No Xbox console has ever supported Bluetooth. Xbox Wireless Protocol is a proprietary closed source protocol that, while similar to Bluetooth, requires different physical hardware.
Now the controllers on the other hand, have supported Bluetooth since an Xbone mid gen refresh, but they support both protocols. Xbox Wireless for connecting to the consoles, Bluetooth for everything else. MS added this to promote game pass streaming.
You may notice that not all controller features function over Bluetooth - for example, the 3.5mm headphone jack on the controller is disabled when using Bluetooth. Switch to one of the Xbox Wireless adaptors and you're back in business. Bluetooth mode also has sightly higher latency.
The Xbox Wireless headset also supports both, and supports both as simultaneous connections. You can connect to the console for game audio using standard Xbox Wireless Protocol, and at the same time connect via Bluetooth to something else for music or chat. It's still only one connection of each type. One Xbox Wireless connection, one Bluetooth connection.
No, all Bluetooth runs off the same frequency (2.4MHz spectrum). They literally just don't let you use your own headsets so you'd buy their official one, or the 3rd party licensed ones (I think Turtle Beach had exclusive rights for a bit)
The fact that you do it like that doesn't take anything away from the products. I'm surprised you can't see the point. Maybe not useful for you but that's not how everyone plays.
If you live in an environment with noise, or simply prefer to use a headset, then this is very precious.
No it isn't annoying. It's just hearing.
There is a dial that let's you change the balance between both channels you are listening to. So if I'm on a Discord call from my phone with my buddies amd we're playing Valheim, I'll turn the dial so it's 75% Discord and 25% game audio.
I can still hear what's going on with the game but the main event is talking to my buds.
I also do it with podcasts while playing RPGs and grinding. I could just turn the TV volume down and listen to my phone next to me but the quality and experience with the headset is leaps and bounds better.
Hope you enjoy trying it out!
You can already do discord on Xbox without this headset. As for podcasts, I think you're limited to Spotify, I don't know of any others that can run in the background
I bought the headset near launch and I believe the option to use discord on Xbox was not implemented yet.
I use a different app for podcasts so it's been worth it for me
Yes on Xbox. With this headset it has dual audio inputs.
If you use the Xbox Wireless Headset, you may listen to your Xbox AND connect it to your phone or Bluetooth device for audio to simultaneously play.
So any app for audio input.
If I still had my Xbox headset, I would 100% use discord from my phone instead of the built-in discord for one main reason: I have to switch between in game chat and discord (or party chat) and I can't hear what's going on around me in proximity chat. If I could just toggle muting my mic and still hear it, I would 100% do this. And it is the feature I miss most about my Xbox headset
I do wish I could turn on this headset without also turning on my xbox. I don't think there's anyway to turn this off, I use this headset all the time, and everytime it turns on my xbox, and starts beeping with notifications.
Is there anyway to turn this off, besides unplugging my xbox?
You have to connect your headset with a bluetooth device to avoid the turning on/off crap.
It can't turn off your headset if it's still connected to Bluetooth. (for example xbox and smartphone)
Same with turning on the xbox. It conencts first with BT, so there is no need for the headset to start the console.
I've needed 2-3 years to recognize it.
But.. It does only work with the xbox and bt connection.
Yeah, simultaneous Bluetooth is one of the primary advertised features of the headset. It’s also pretty common these days with other mid-range sets from Steelseries, TB, the new Pulse Elites, etc.
Not to sound like an ad but get some replacement pads for the headset too. I got the brainwavz's leather ones and my God the headset is 1000% more comfortable.
It's the reason I bought it. Driving in Forza Horizon while watching Stargate without disturbing anyone is as close to heaven as I can get other than spending time with my family.
This was great during COVID - I'd have them connected to my work laptop and my Xbox at the same time, could hear the game I was playing AND was ready to respond if anyone needed me on the Zoom call that we'd leave running (one person on-site at a time and the rest WFH so we'd just do what we could from home as it was a mostly physical job)
I nearly had a heart attack last week because of this feature. I use the headset on my PC to play Star Citizen and my son will borrow it from time to time to play Halo on Xbox. Imagine the look on my new-player face when I logged into SC, into what sounded like a full war breaking out- machine gun fire, the sound of engines roaring! “Shit! I better hit the deck and crawl outta here. I knew Grim Hex was a crack house but I thought there was an armistice zone here”
Cue the other random player who walks up to me snake crawling down the hallway “Dude what are you doing?!” And it’s at that point that I hear the sound that any lifetime halo player would recognize “Wort wort wort” and realize that I’m hearing Halo OVER Star Citizen… from the Xbox in the next room.
It is a cool feature when you remember that it exists 😂
Man so relatable. I was playing Prince of Persia and in some quiet moments I could hear the audiobook faintly in the background and I thought, "wow I like the book so much I'm hearing the narrators voice in game", until I exited the game and kept hearing it in the menu. I removed the headphones several times. I thought I was losing my mind
Do you know a way to disconnect from the Xbox while using PC? A frequent scenario here at my house is that I am using the PC in my bedroom and my son is playing on Xbox in the living room. I would love to use the headset exclusively with the PC, but the sounds of both devices mix on the headset. Help me in this, please.
I eventually just “forgot” the headset on the Xbox so it’s just connected to the pc, and vice verse when I don’t wanna hear gunfire all night from the Xbox tv 😂
Super handy for me as I chat to people via Discord and can still listen to the game.
Also in general I use the headset for both Xbox and PC... I just wish it wouldn't turn the Xbox on when I turn on the headset.
IMHO this is a perfect headset. I love mine so much and especially because of this feature. Love taking advantage of it to play a podcast or YouTube video from my phone while I game. Just bought the pulse elite for my PS5 which comes with a USB dongle for connection and so I can essentially enjoy the same features on PS5 or steam deck. Having the feature on Xbox spoiled me
It's great, but they will always turn your Xbox on and they will stay connected to your phone and won't turn off when you turn your Xbox off.
It's not a major problem, but it's a bit annoying. I wish you could double click the power button like you can do on the controllers and switch between devices.
Yeah, mine does the same, but also I can’t use it that way anymore bc every time I do it calls the last person on my phone, and that’s been really inconvenient lol
Does anyone else have a problem where they can’t control game volume on the headset? Mine no matter what I do on the volume wheel it stays the same, then Xbox says use your headset controls so I have to adjust the game audio itself in each game
This, then invest in some nice earpads and if you find the headset too snug on your head, stretch it out over a facial tissue box.
I would love Microsoft to upgrade this headset with horizontal swivel, better pads, make it slightly less snug and the big upgrade of noise cancellation.
Such a great feature. I got the headset when it first came out and realized I was connected to both the Xbox and my phone one day and was like “Oh! That neat as hell!!”
Had two pairs of those and loved them but that’s mic being so easily broken irked me to no end so I moved on. Might get another pair for travel gaming tho
This question might seem weird, but is possible with this headset, to listen to a YouTube video on my laptop, while also having the game sounds from my xbox?
It is tight. My head is regular and I can feel the pressure. It's not discomforting but wouldn't recommend it to anyone concerned about that.
Someone here commented that there are pads that feel better, but I can feel much more pressure than my previous artics 7. It was the first thing I noticed.
To me it's just a tight fit.
I would do that as well if iwere you.
The only reason I would recommend this headset is for it's easy pairing with Xbox and the amazing feature I mentioned. Everything else is just mid but but very appropriate for the price imo.
my mic broke almost immediately. i fixed it with some tape and ignored it. after about six months to a year of daily use, the ear cup tore off one of the ears. the sound is great, i loved being able to play destiny on the xbox and listen to music or something else through my PC while i played. a bit hefty of a price for how easily everything on them fell apart- i ended up going with some sony wireless headphones after they broke, as I'd stopped using my xbox pretty much entirely (my xbox gaming group fell apart, and all my family and friends game on PC nowadays). if you can get them used or on sale they're definitely a good deal.
That's because the Xbox connection isn't Bluetooth
Honestly even knowing this before I wouldn't think it has a swap feature like the Xbox controller, for example. Wasn't expecting both feeds simultaneously. It's amazing.
Bought the Xbox headset recently. Fantastic feature. My Sony headphones will connect to two Bluetooth devices simultaneously as well but the onboard controls can't change the source volume like the Xbox ones.
It's not an exclusive one, but I agree.

I think this is the dumbest argument I've ever read

That's crazy Too bad it's not actually connecting to the console via Bluetooth, eh?

+++ Love this feature. Works perfectly with my XSX and PC (or cellphone). Microsoft big respect 🔥
It's the main reason why I went with this headset. Podcasts or discord while gaming is so nice.

It’s great for combining discord from my phone with in game audio.
Wait until I tell you discord is integrated with Xbox
Yes for sure, I just find the interface on the app a lot easier to use and deal with mid game.
Yeah it is a bit easier on the phone but I do appreciate the direct integration from the console menu.
Well then touché
Why not use discord on your Xbox?
When you want to watch a discord stream of your friend while playing you can’t go with the Xbox into the voicechat or i miss something.
If only snap still existed and you could watch streams via it. You ain't missing anything, it's sadly only voice and sharing your own screen
Ahh gotcha screen share makes sense in that scenario
I do wish I could turn on this headset without also turning on my xbox. I don't think there's anyway to turn this off, I use this headset all the time, and everytime it turns on my xbox, and starts beeping with notifications. Is there anyway to turn this off, besides unplugging my xbox?

I don't have this headset but I guarantee the included manual mentions this feature
yes it does! everything I said still stands
This is common knowledge, Its a great feature! I have used it to listen to music while i play or use discord to play with people not on Xbox. 😁
Why not use discord on Xbox?
I have not set it up yet
It works so nicely, makes comms much easier prob one of my favorite features
I used it once and hated it immediately lol
I nearly had a heart attack last week because of this feature. I use the headset on my PC to play Star Citizen and my son will borrow it from time to time to play Halo on Xbox. So! I thought in this solution but didn't find where to 'forget' in XBOX. How to?
Super handy for me as I chat to people via Discord and can still listen to the game. Also in general I use the headset for both Xbox and PC... I just wish it wouldn't turn the Xbox on when I turn on the headset.
Omg I didn't know about this. Sounds annoying but I like it
IMHO this is a perfect headset. I love mine so much and especially because of this feature. Love taking advantage of it to play a podcast or YouTube video from my phone while I game. Yeah, mine does the same, but also I can’t use it that way anymore bc every time I do it calls the last person on my phone, and that’s been really inconvenient lol
Hopefully one day they give a option that if you turn on the headset it wont turn on the console also But yeah great headset !
you can equalize the audio. it is a bit bassy out of the box
yep I noticed but honestly I'm totally fine as is
I just wish I could turn headset on without turning on Xbox.
Ya it was a feature they made a big deal about when it launched. I love it, I listen to youtube or music while gaming.
Does anyone else have a problem where they can’t control game volume on the headset? Mine no matter what I do on the volume wheel it stays the same, then Xbox says use your headset controls so I have to adjust the game audio itself in each game

The fit was the first thing I noticed after coming from so many years with Steelseries artics. But still good. Will definitely get the pads.
Such a great feature. I got the headset when it first came out and realized I was connected to both the Xbox and my phone one day and was like “Oh! That neat as hell!!”
And a great part about all that is the actual quality, both build and sound, isn't dogshit and its actually worth getting which surprised me
Yess, it's a solid headset overall!
Had two pairs of those and loved them but that’s mic being so easily broken irked me to no end so I moved on. Might get another pair for travel gaming tho
I've heard about the mic in this post. I will buy a case as I travel a lot. Not a deal breaker to me but will keep the eye out
This question might seem weird, but is possible with this headset, to listen to a YouTube video on my laptop, while also having the game sounds from my xbox?
Yes, anything from your laptop or any other device and Xbox at the same time
I'd like to have the opposite. Listen to PC sounds without listening to Xbox's sounds while it is on. Do you know how?
Apple Music/Diablo and you might not see my for 48 straight hours
I'm already playing more after this
How is this headset for bigger heads ? I’ve heard they can be tight. For context I wear a sz 7 3/4 hat
Yeah. I’ll stick with my Astro A40s. Thanks for the info
I would do that as well if iwere you. The only reason I would recommend this headset is for it's easy pairing with Xbox and the amazing feature I mentioned. Everything else is just mid but but very appropriate for the price imo.
That mic is going to break because it's being held together by a very thin cheap plastic.
my mic broke almost immediately. i fixed it with some tape and ignored it. after about six months to a year of daily use, the ear cup tore off one of the ears. the sound is great, i loved being able to play destiny on the xbox and listen to music or something else through my PC while i played. a bit hefty of a price for how easily everything on them fell apart- i ended up going with some sony wireless headphones after they broke, as I'd stopped using my xbox pretty much entirely (my xbox gaming group fell apart, and all my family and friends game on PC nowadays). if you can get them used or on sale they're definitely a good deal.
Thanks for the heads up as I travel a lot for works, will get a case
Yea man i liked the headset but that kept happening.
Yikes. I actually asked in the GameStop but they didn't have cases. Will order one right away.
I use this feature when I want to smash one out when I'm playing games in the evening
