Should have let it get stolen lol

tinnnola

I've been starting to think that haha

dsdvbguutres

I would stay away from dealership service departments for anything other than a recall or warranty. Take it to an independent mechanic. Hondas are common cars, 2018 models have been around for a while, there are many mechanics who are familiar with them. These engines can also be bought on ebay for under $2K and will be likely lower mileage and newer model year too.

bandofwarriors

I agree with this... All dealerships are shamelessly exploiting their service dept leads at every opportunity. You can't believe anything they say right now when it comes to anything other than minor problems with a car because they will do everything they can to flip you into a new sale and rip you off on the trade in. They will do everything they can to make you believe your best option is to give up on your current vehicle and sell you something else.

saltierthanme

They told me my engine was blown I needed a coil.

WhatsHighFunctioning

As a current Lexus dealership technician, I completely disagree with your assertions. I have 15 years in the business and am a Nissan Master Tech as well as Maserati Certified, for what it’s worth. The idea that a service department wants to flip you into a new car is completely absurd for a number of reasons: The main reason is the service department is where most dealers make the majority of their money. If you buy a newer model year, you are spending less money at the dealer on service, which has high profit margins compared to sales. The other reason is the tech and service writer don’t make money if you don’t buy service. I have many reasons to keep you in an older car and no reason to help sales. The sales department is typically disliked by most guys in the service department. What you have to look out for is the issues the tech saw with you vehicle but neglected to mention because the particular job is difficult to do and doesn’t pay enough or because it costs so much he doesn’t want to scare away. Most technicians want to do service work, not repair work because it is typically easier, cleaner, and pays better than replacing an entire engine.

RogueILLyrian

Right on the money

AchioteMachine

This is the way.

Fatigue-Error

Consult an independent mechanic? Instead of a dealer.

abdurm

So the dealer didnt give you any type of warranty? Not even 3 months warranty on engine and transmission??

Forward-Trade5306

They screw people over with that stuff. A lot of used vehicles dont come with a warranty. My friend just bought a truck with 50k miles and paid 3k with a warranty add on. With how expensive used cars are these days, it's a huge gamble and is often better to just buy new or certified pre-owned with less than 50k miles

abdurm

Ngl thats what I ended up doing after dealing with many used cars. Getting a new or certified pre owned car gives you peace of mind, even tho they be expensive but they will last you long and treat you right.

Forward-Trade5306

Exactly it's a matter of spending more upfront or paying for repairs sooner. I bought my first new car ever this year since it didn't make sense to save 5k and not have a full warranty

abdurm

I just looked at your profile, she looks clean af. Smart choice for getting N-line and not the other base models. Also, its a smart move u got her new cuz u wont have to worry about it at all until you reach 100k miles which it will take years to do.

Forward-Trade5306

Yeah they added the Bose speakers on the 24 N-line too. With how I drive it I'm hoping to get 50k 😂. I wish I would have kept my 2017 Civic coupe as a backup to the Elantra. I liked it a lot better than my current backup which is a 2015 Altima

abdurm

Damn they upgraded for real !! Naaah you messed up on this move mate 😂😂 those coupe civics are rare now 😭

Forward-Trade5306

Yeah I had the premium speakers on my coupe and needed something equivalent. A deer ran into the side of my 17 coupe it and it would have cost 5-6k to repair it. It was just cosmetic damage though and it still drove fine. Definitely would have outlived my 15 Altima

abdurm

Ooh thats a different case than. Enjoy ur rides man!

dumahim

If he's concerned about it happening again, fix it and sell it.

REBELimgs

He's worried it'll only last another 70k? Lol

Cultural-Bite3042

If the neighbors have a camera, find the thieves and make them actually steal it. On a serious note: ask an independent mechanic shop that is reputable(ask friends and family to refer you), they can do an engine swap from a junkyard one. Would save you $ and younger bro can be back behind the wheels.

Norman-Phillips1953

If a dealer sold this to him, in certain states there are lemon laws. They can't get away with this. Turn them in to the Better Business Bureau. If this car needs a motor job or new head gaskets, not an entire engine, the dealership should have addressed this problem. This should be fixed.

Beginning_Box_9813

2018 accord with red interior ? 🤔

Iambetterthanuhaha

I am thinking whore house red like an 80s GM car. lol

Western-Ranger9619

Get in contact with a extended warranty company wait sum time then report the issue have them pay half n you pay the other half i did it my head gaskey was blown i got 2.0 tourig that shit starting jerking so bad one morning engine light came on

GentleGiant81

Smart play. 🫡

Western-Ranger9619

Yessir 🙌🏽

uhhhyuhhh8735

At what mileage did you start having that issue if you don't mind me asking? I have a 2020 2.0 Touring as well but have heard the 2.0 is a lot more reliable than the 1.5 in terms of this issue. I have about 59,000 miles but the car has been running perfect in my situation.

Western-Ranger9619

My bad just seeing!!, this happened at 72k miles but im pretty sure i told em the car was at 70k miles lolol since you have to wait and let the problem “happen” 🙃 gotta work your way around em folks.. you will be carless for a while thoe i waited about 2 months but if you have a backup car then it shouldn’t be a problem

Mattmann5799

Fix it and sell it

Slixse

Does he not have a return/warranty from a dealer ship? If they can't fix it under warranty, they have to replace or take it back?

GloweyBacon

Weird they said needs a new engine maybe they don't want to do the work? Usually when the head gasket blows on these engines you can just replace the head gasket and head bolts and your good too if it didn't actually overheat

RogueILLyrian

Right. Unless previous owner let it overheat prior to the place selling it, even then there is a chance that replacing head gasket only will do.

MaterialNo6419

Fix it and sell it

RogueILLyrian

If its the 1.5 t model they are known to have bad head gasket and other issues. Just because it has bad gasket does not mean it needs a new engine, you can buy the head gasket and look up videos on how to replace it, 4 cylinder honda engines are easier, not saying this is easy task but wont cost you 4k. What other issues did the dealership say? I feel like they are out to screw you over.

Forward-Trade5306

Have a smaller mechanic shop check it out that isn't a dealership. Next time buy it new or slightly used (Honda certified pre-owned vehicle or whatever brand certified) to make sure it comes with a warranty. At this point 6k + 5k + 5k +7k = 23k so assuming that the engine actually needs to be replaced it's almost the cost of a brand new Civic. There are some new cars that are even in the 20 to 25k range and have 60k warranty minimum

bloodyskeetstain

Try your best to self diagnose. Research online about your symptoms and when they happen. Use a scanner on the car if you can. Cars need air, fuel, & spark, maybe it's one of those? For air check the air intake & air filter (idk what else), fuel you can check fuel injectors (I've never done it but it seems easy) or fuel pump? (But idk how to check that either), & for spark I believe it would be either spark plugs or coils. As for the head gasket, you might see some gunk building up (I can't confirm but my buddy pointed that out to me on my 2007 honda accord 245k miles). Last advice is find a good mechanic for problems you can't figure out yourself

jaerocc

Should've let the guy steal it

DoneByForty

While the head gasket is apparently a problem with this generation, there should be symptoms you can verify. Is there white smoke coming out of the tailpipe? What does the coolant look like? Anything weird like a milkshake? What does the oil look like? Brown/black or creamy colored? Agree with the rec to have a mechanic take a look at it because a lot of things can cause a stall that are pretty minor. Fingers crossed.

MetalOk466

I literally just had to do a HG replacement on my 2019 Accord. Honda covered 50% of the repair cost and it all came out to $4K total, $2K out of pocket. Ask the dealer if they can submit a request to Honda America to get it covered under goodwill. It’s a shame these engines have a common problem being the HG, as it’s a big job to do. Not sure why they’re suggesting replacing the engine.

DrMacintosh01

Hand has been producing lemons lately. I’m sorry this happened.

tinnnola

Yeah :( Thank you though.

AdWinter4101

Probably still a warranty car. Go to a small claims lawyer and have it rectified shouldn’t be any more than like 400 bucks. It sucks but what else can you do

dumahim

6 years old and 90k?  That warranty is gone.

REBELimgs

Honda powertrain warranty is 60k.
