It's probably not actually the fastest but lilypads in a 9x9 with 2 layers of farmland (with red fertilizer above) is always the good enough option for me. I'll do 3-4 of those. 1 where I put every seed once, one for inferium and the other 2 for the things I need loads of. There is a very good video by AlfredGG (the dude who does the quests for the ATM packs). I think it was for atm8 but still applicable mostly only the modular routers + watering can was nerfed in atm9
Especially with red fertilizer instead of essence farmland. Also much easier to get since you can just setup a mob farm with the cursed dirt (or whatever it is called) from MobGrindingUtils. Gets you all the drops needed for the lilypads iirc. Way cheaper and accessible in early game
17x17 is the most optimal for lilypads but it isnt worth unless you can auto craft thousands
edit: 17x17 is the lilypads, the land stays the same, although you could have 9x9 four times in a square and double up to get even crazier amounts
Pretty sure the range on the lilypads is 9x9x6 so technically you'd still get a benefit from going above that but as you said it's probably more efficient to just grow more seeds and make multiple 9x9 fields next to each other and ofc 2 layers
I believe phytogenic is the fastest. However that takes you setup up water lines, power lines, and a fertilizer source. I mainly use supremium soil with growth accelerators to the point of my need and then leave it at that, though I've been experimenting with bees lately due to server lag (minor stuff but still a worry)

It also makes seeds if you run it long enough but its not able to be scaled like a farm so it is much slowly in reality.
