That’s brutal. AA hubs have been a shitshow during weather recently. With that said, they don’t actually owe you any type of reimbursement, and will probably continue to stonewall you. That’s just the way it works. Sorry you went through that.

Thanks :(

File a DOT complaint. DOT rules prohibit most U.S. airlines from allowing a domestic flight to remain on the tarmac for more than three hours unless: the pilot determines that there is a safety or security reason why the aircraft cannot taxi to the gate and deplane its passengers, or Air traffic control advises the pilot that taxiing to the gate (or to another location where passengers can be deplaned) would significantly disrupt airport operations.

Also: On international itineraries, passengers may be able to recover reimbursement under Article 19 of the Montreal Convention for expenses resulting from a delayed or canceled flight by filing a claim with the airline. If the claim is denied, you may pursue the matter in court if you believe that the carrier did not take all measures that could reasonably be required to avoid the damages caused by the delay. https://secure.dot.gov/air-travel-complaint

PHL had lightning so when that happens the ramps shut down and operations just stop until they can safely get back out there. Being on the plane is the safest place possible to avoid lightning strikes as the planes are grounded anyways.

opticspipe

File a DOT complaint. That treatment by the gate agent and the customer service counters (which are really just bad attitude counters at PHL) is not okay.

Thanks yeah we will

Did you purchase insurance, or have some on your credit card?

tinkertof

Yes we have trip insurance thank god, going to have to file a claim for each thing that happened but hopefully that will help, we are waiting on delay/cancellation proof from american

Any_Yogurtcloset362

Once you fly, if you go on the website and log in to the travel itinerary there should be an option to view a printable version. It should have the rebook information and then in the bottom a reason code with CXL on it. If you send that in, you don’t need to wait for proof of cancellation.

I am so so sorry this happened to you! So glad you have travel insurance. Any chance you have names for any of the particularly unhelpful people?? If so, I’d file a complaint with AA and/or put them on blast on Twitter/X. I am super complimentary like this publicly when I get good service, so I am not hesitant to let them know when someone has done something negative.

Distinct-Hold-5836

Always know your rights when it pertains to the rules of carriage within the airline you're flying. Most pax don't take the time to understand the system. But they sure learn fast when the shit hits the fan.

Compensation for what? If you're looking for comp for meals or hotels, it depends. The how is you'd go through customer relations. The answer depends on the field reason for the CX. Given your story, probably wx. So the answer is "no". If you're looking for comp for missing a day of your trip, then the answer is "no".
