First one's more casual. They could be going anywhere, feeling somewhat indifferent. Second one is a bit more deliberate, whatever they're intending to do they feel a little intense about it. Depends on context, whether it makes sense for them to always be "on" or if they can turn it down a notch. But honestly the difference is not that drastic.

I think she looks a bit stiff on the right too; her spine stays very still and it almost looks partly awkward though I also get the deliberateness from her leaning forward a bit too (I prefer the left)

Thank you both! It's right, the difference is subtle, but it's also why it's hard for us to decide. I appreciate your feedback on the stiffness of version B and the fact that it looks a bit more intense. That's definitely food for thought to help us make a decision!

The rear thigh in both of them is bumping me for some reason. It has like a frame or two of extra pop or stillness that doesn’t flow smoothly like everything else. I’m not sure if it’s the fault of the looping or not tho. Just thought that was worth mentioning.

Puddle_Puzzle

Thanks a lot! I appreciate that you mention it, I'll see with our animator how we can improve it!

B is definitely better imo. Anything you can do to add personality and expression is best.

Puddle_Puzzle

Thanks a lot! You're totally right! 😊

This is the walk animation loop for an alien species in our 2D game. We also submitted it to other groups a few days ago, but it was a tie. We figured we might have a lot of useful insights here! If you have any advice to help us improve the animation loop, feel free to let us know!
