Yessss, you're right. I've been following the manga for some time now; and because of the unfortunate hiatus I managed to match the pace of releases, which recently stopped at chapter 116. The Black Lagoon manga is pretty awesome.
I don't doubt that, at some point, they'll pick up the manga to make another adaptation. Madhouse - the studio that animated BL - has shown interest in the past. I believe that other companies can pick up the anime to animate, too. Black Lagoon is still a considerable success in Japan and is very successful in other countries.
Many people thought that the last episode of the OVA had finished the work of Black Lagoon, and for that reason they say that the supposed "ending" was strange.
But the OVA just closed an arc like any other, the problem was the lack of content to do other arcs later - this was still in 2011. I was desperate to see more of Black Lagoon in anime.
The Black Lagoon anime is easily my favorite. But the Black Lagoon manga is just as good as the anime, at least in my opinion. The characters are still very interesting and charismatic and the plot is equally cool. And in the manga, there are certain scenes that don't exist in the anime - as well as the opposite -, and these scenes help us to better empathize with the characters.
It really is a shame that the manga has been on hiatus for so long. I'm sure that without the hiatus and with the consistency of manga releases, Black Lagoon would be one of the most talked about works today. It's a totally different concept than most of the anime we have in the industry today. At the time the anime came out, it was a blast. Most people loved it.
I liked it at first, but felt it really fell off around the half way point (you can probably guess which episode). The ending especially left me feeling pretty disappointed and overall meh.
That's fair fs. I wish it had more episodes cause the pacing got worse overtime with certain plot point that felt undeveloped. I'd give cyberpunk though a solid 8/10
Understandable, personally i thought EP 6 was the best one. I was sad it was only 10 EP’s but at the same time was happy that it was 10 EP’s because i personally thought this show is a 9/10 or 10/10 i loved it from start to finish. No fillers no bs every scene felt like it mattered, animation was amazing. The music is fire and sets every mood amazingly. The show felt extremely dense for only being 10eps. I was heartbroken by some of the deaths from the main-cast. 3 months after watching the show i clicked on this song on YT “i really want to stay at your house” and that song alone gave me goosebumps and i was crying a lot lol. 3 months after watching, randomly hearing that song it brought out so many strong emotions. If you just don’t like sad or somber stuff i can completely understand why you wouldn’t like it, I’m not even a huge fan of stuff like that but this show just straight up felt like i was watching a masterpiece the last ep or 2nd last can’t remember felt a little rushed that was probably the biggest flaw in the whole show

Eh I do agree cyberpunk can get a bit much which is why I wouldn't recommend it to everybody, but I personally loved it. But also david and lucys relationship felt very real in related towards the struggles of living in a cyberpunk world where death is imminent making the ending so good. But hey, it's just me.
Bump that shit up to the top of the list, because it's a well-rounded anime that's complete and addresses both mature themes as well as splatters you with uncomfortable gore from time to time.
Also I think I recall that they have sex in that one (not on-screen).
Mirai Nikki also has the "realistic" sex scene and is generally gory and interesting, but lots of people hate it, because that's just the popular opinion. Still has one of the best "dealing with consequences" ending in anime, though.

it certainly drags a lot. i think they assumed making the plot grounded in reality would be enough to hold attentions. but when a huge chunk of an episode is just logistics and world building the action parts just get lost in people waiting for them and others trying to follow the story. i see goblin slayer as a fail in pacing and balance for sure. by the time we start understanding why he hates goblins we are already over wondering why.
well.. that is a reality that is rarely addressed in stories outside of porn. the way it affected you is how it was supposed to make you feel... did you think they wanted to glorify it and make you a fan of goblins? it was manipulating your feelings with something raw or graphic so you hate goblins as much as the protagonist. it also does that later on when they present the situation of killing child goblins because of what they would probably become. you can't just reject media because of the concepts in some plot points right? like, did you feel the same way about the rape scene in the girl with the dragon tattoo? or i guess game of thrones because i heard about that but never watched the show?
It’s seriously so disturbing at times, but the story telling and world building are phenomenal. The music is also just otherworldly good. It won anime of the year a few years back and it was so well deserved. Can’t wait to be traumatized some more when the next season releases!

Gurren lagann movies: just a good show 👌 some boobies in the second movie near the end. Mature ish themes. Not really gorey/at all but good story, fun fights alittle emotional might need a kleenex.
Shinsekai yori - very mature themes, implied sex, dark story and has some gorey moments. 25 epsiodes full story no need for second season.
Stigma of the qwaser: can be brutal in concept at times, lots of nudity, fights are entertaining for badassery and comedian its weird I know but they make it work in their own way. Has two seasons. 36 epsiodes total without ovas or specials.
Rokka no yusha: brutal gore at times, no nudity but there is fanservice. Great story with some chilling and dark moments . 1 season sadly wish there was more... forced to continue after with the light novels if you wanna know the very end.

Vinland Saga's first season was one of the greatest shows I've ever watched.
Its second season was one of the worst. After 11 episodes of the absolute most boring ass crap, I stopped watching. I didn't care at that point. Such a disappointment.
Tengoku Daimakyō (Heavenly Disillusion) - Post apocalyptic show that follows the travel of two two characters trying to find heaven. Has themes of depression, suicide, and rape.
Mushoku Tensei (Jobless Reincarnated) - Fantasy show about a guy that is reincarnated after being shut in his previous life. Very good show were you absolutely hate the main character at the beginning but sympathize with his journey. Has themes of depression, sex, and gore.
Shin Sekai Yori (From the New World) - Post apocalyptic show that follows a girl leaning the dark truth of here world. Themes of gory and morality.
Black Lagoon - Action show that follows the life of Japanese man joining a group of mercenaries. Highly recommend that watch it dubbed. Themes of violence, language, and gore
Perfect blue - Psychological thriller that follows a girl as she transitions her career from an idol to an actor. The show has themes depression, suicide, and rape.
RIN: Daughters of Mnemosyne - futuristic sociological thriller - themes of violence, sex

Eh... I wouldn't say best. It's good, but if that's your best you probably haven't been watching a lot of anime. It's definitely one of the better Isekai anime and I am thoroughly enjoying the second season though.

I get it, there are some brutal anime out there, anyway any romcom recommendations? If you want to watch a good and not too bloody, Gorey, etc. I really recommend Made in abyss!

To Love series for me. Never getting tired of it. There are actually actions, comedy, slice of life, romance and all.

Vinland Saga's first season was one of the greatest shows I've ever watched. Its second season was one of the worst. After 11 episodes of the absolute most boring ass crap, I stopped watching. I didn't care at that point. Such a disappointment.
Tengoku Daimakyō (Heavenly Disillusion) - Post apocalyptic show that follows the travel of two two characters trying to find heaven. Has themes of depression, suicide, and rape. Mushoku Tensei (Jobless Reincarnated) - Fantasy show about a guy that is reincarnated after being shut in his previous life. Very good show were you absolutely hate the main character at the beginning but sympathize with his journey. Has themes of depression, sex, and gore. Shin Sekai Yori (From the New World) - Post apocalyptic show that follows a girl leaning the dark truth of here world. Themes of gory and morality. Black Lagoon - Action show that follows the life of Japanese man joining a group of mercenaries. Highly recommend that watch it dubbed. Themes of violence, language, and gore Perfect blue - Psychological thriller that follows a girl as she transitions her career from an idol to an actor. The show has themes depression, suicide, and rape. RIN: Daughters of Mnemosyne - futuristic sociological thriller - themes of violence, sex Kara no Kyoukai (Garden of Sinners) - sociological mystery thriller - themes of gore, and violence
Some of these are more “edgy” mature and some are more mature in terms of actually storytelling, but these are the ones I’d recommend… Parasyte, Vinland Saga, Mobile Suit Gundam: Thunderbolt (only if you’ve seen the original though), Cyberpunk Edgerunners, Made in Abyss, Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex, Rurouni Kenshin: Trust & Betrayal, Berserk (97), Jin Roh: The Wolf Brigade, Perfect Blue.

Akame ga Kill. A lot of people might hate it but I love it for the same reason they hate it. I love the fact that the villains don't have candies in their guns and they actually do some damage at an equal level to the protagonists. They're in it for their beliefs as well and they fight with the same amount of force the heroes do. And it has Esdeath 🙂

Elfen Leid, it's considered old now but really enjoyed watching it back in the day. 'Another' was also an anime that I enjoyed. You will have to watch to understand. It’s hilarious 😂), 91 Days, Gleipnir, Btoom!, Future Diary, Chaika the coffin princess, Sankarea, In/spectre, Gosick, Elfen lied (get tissue box ready 😅), Devils Line, Absolute Duo, Mushoku Tensei: Jobless Reincarnation, Dusk Maiden of Amnesia, With Sexy Time: Date A Live (4 seasons, not too much sexy time but it has its moments), Redo of Healer (pretty dark, not for the faint of heart. Companies refuse to dub it, it’s that dark), Tsugumomo, Domestic Girlfriend, Freezing (not much sexy time iirc), To Love Ru (lots of sexy time 😅 watch alone), Sekirei , Highschool DXD (I’m sure most have heard of this one), Infinite Stratos, If you have any questions about any of them I’ll be happy to answer 😁

Black lagoon isn’t gory or horny, but I think it fits what you’re looking for. If you want sex, just go watch some hentai. I’ll never understand why people watch crappy anime shows just to try and see some tits and ass when full on porn is literally a couple clicks away.
Not an anime but Castlevania. It felt like a real fucking amazing show with great voice acting and amazing banter, insane action for the relatively limited and detailed stills and a beautiful story. PLEASE give it a shot
