The early episodes kind of are, but then it just turned into a dnd campaign with a lot world building. The food kind of took a back seat and they end up eating whatever monster they killed at the end of the episode.
Ecchi mangakas usually do a lot of fettish things, cz they wanna get public for their works, that's why we have super boobs, normal boobs, glasses girls, lolis, demi-humans, monsters and etc. Most certainly those are not all their fettishes but ofc some are, why would they work on ecchi if they couldn't enjoy themselves.
I actually read that when he was younger he saw an image of like a country at war and a kid suffering from malnutrition and it traumatized him. So he doesn’t like drawing skinny people. How true that is I couldn’t say.

Alright, do any of you remember that fanservice/workout anime "how heavy are the Dumbbells you lift? It's like that, but with dieting, stretching, and chubby monster girls.
Hmmmmm, hard to say. It's more loose with its focus of weight loss, but the author doesn't glorify weight gain. The main character is always encouraging the others to be healthy and be active. But I think the author just wants to draw chubby girls being cute and sexy.
It’s a slice of life gag series about monster girls on a weight lost journey with shenanigans. Their weight fluctuates between appearances. Sometimes they’re fit, most of the time they fail to their vices and become thicc. Lots of silly moments with some ecchi nudity on occasions.
Overall not super ground breaking stuff, but I find the manga to be enjoyable.

Yeah, the translation is not very accurate. The original name of the manga is more like "Ms. Elf can't stay on her diet".
Point is, they aren't what we call plus sized, they're just chubby. Not even obese, just don't have a flat stomach kinda chubby.

The current comic is still on the same continuity as the original, just that something in the magazine/publisher change required a new title to differentiate it from the first manga; hence the added Shin/New in the title.
