Everything done by Yuki Kajiura will be worth your time. SAO was already mentionend, but I think her work an Madoka Magica and Fate:Zero are amazing (and they work so well with Urobuchi's writing too)

thille96

.hack series' OST as well

UndeadSpace

I second the .hack series OSTs. I honestly think they are Yuki Kajiura at her best.

twilightnoir

It's sad that Emily Bindiger's singing voice is gone

sjysjy2222

Garden of the sinners

PanzerHedgehog

Also Gundam Seed

humzaa_omar

Anything Yuki Kajiura is going to blow your socks off

fieew

Pandora Hearts, Noir, Tsubasa Resivor Chronciles, are some of best works. But since they're all a bit older so many forget about them. But they all have BANGER soundtracks.

Wellington2013-

So everything that makes me whole…

Tight-Lettuce7980

The soundtrack really carried the series a lot.

TorchedBlack

That's sawano for you.

LilFoxieUndercover

Since no one else mentioned it yet, I'm gonna give it to Made in Abyss. Kevin Penkin is absolutely genius in what he does.

EyewarsTheMangoMan

And Tower of God for the same reason

ExpiredMilknCheese

Add in spice and wolf. Well really anything he’s done

SinibusUSG

His work on his 3rd grade play was really inspired. Amazing triangle work.

LilFoxieUndercover

Wait did he also compose that? Alright, I needed just one more reason to start watching, I guess this is it lol

Smegma-Ballz-

And he did some for The Apothecary Diaries

grimjowjagurjack

Made in abyss is my favourite anime and there's so many amazing ost but my favourite ost in the show is san ken , its the one that plays with faputa speech

Smegma-Ballz-

My favorite is Reg and His Interference Unit

FAS-ACA3

Feel like everybody sleeping on [Tomorrow](https://youtu.be/W8Si0g20h_Q) that plays at the ending of season 1, when the messenger balloon rises from the abyss. Gives me goosebumps everytime.

LilFoxieUndercover

That's one of the best in MiA. It took me too long to find it back when it popped randomly in my mind and I wanted to loop it hahaha!

Disastrous_Channel62

I watched MIB just for ost's and Kevin penkin. The world building is gr8 too but the trauma and the nsfw scenes don't really appease me , but the environment paired with the Ost's is one hell of an experience.

RiccardoSan

Old Stories has been my favorite song lately.

bondroodaddy

Shoutout to the main themes for each season (movie included) Abyssal speak: 1. Hanezeve Caradhina: s1 2. Tozo Hanoline: movie 3. Old Stories: s2 Series Introduction: 1. Underground River 2. The Return of Made in Abyss 3. Gravity For other series, I would say these have top notch ost’s too (in order of preference): 1. Kabaneri of The Iron Fortress 2. Land of the Lustrous 3. Terror in Resonance/Zankyou no Terror (nearly forgot this one. Also, idk why im adding this, but old stories (mia track) sounds like Von from this ost) 4. Vivy Fluorite Eyes As much as I love MIA, my personal favourite ost is still from Kabaneri. I would put MIA’s ost between 1 and 2 after the release of season 2, but prior to that, I’d say LotL was better. Also another shoutout to Carole and Tuesday (see: The Loneliest Girl). It’s a very different style from everything else listed here.

Anything that Kevin Penkin works on has a golden soundtrack

66Kix_fix

Samurai Champloo Attack on Titan Madoka Magica The fate series as a whole

shoestowel

Adding the Goat 🐐 Shiro Sagisu's Bleach here! The soundtrack is most versatile.

40rt

Samurai Champloo, Persona series and Code Geass.

NonaSuom2

Yes I'm glad that there are others out here mentioning Samurai Champloo ❤️ I could listen to that ost all day.

Sweetcorncakes

I'm rewatching Naruto Shippuden and the OSTs hit different.

bhuv_g31

Violet evergarden Hyouka Oregairu Monthly girls nozaki kun Kamisama kiss Your Name Quintessential quintuplets Edit: Forgot Attack on Titan

MortusX

I've been listening to the Frieren soundtrack and I can visualize each scene that it played behind. The music definitely assisted in the worldbuilding.

PlayerIsKnownBG

Fairy Tail’s soundtrack has a Celtic-feel to it. The [main theme](https://youtu.be/m6kb96YWXMA?si=HbSMvynXVOQcgutc) always gets me fired up in the gym

Huge_Breadfruit6254

I came here to say this, lol. Fairy Tail's theme is amazing. Even if you don't like the anime, the OST is sure to get a person hooked.

KimBeanie77

Everything that Hiroyuki Sawano produced

geminellie

Aldnoah.Zero S1’s OP and ED are totes faves! Made the anime much more epic.

Atys_SLC

The most random anime get one of the best OST ever made. That was quite wild.

JonesinforJohnnies

Gundam Unicorn and 86 for sure. Not an anime but Xenoblad Chronicles X might be my favorite of his.

mathjpg

Dude I can *never* find anyone else who loves the XCX soundtrack. It's one of my favorite video game OSTs of all time. Out of curiosity, what's your favorite track?

JonesinforJohnnies

Vocal tracks, I've been hooked on "The Key We've Lost" since they used it in the reveal trailers. Non vocal, I LOVE Sylvalum and the Manon Ship. I think my biggest gripe with the soundtrack is that the worst tracks are the ones you hear the most. Notably NLA Day/Night. And by the end of the game the soundtrack devolves into 4-5 tracks 1. NLA 2. Skell flight music 3. First 5 seconds of "Uncontrollable" 4. Overdrive music

metalsluger

There are dozens of us, but yeah that music is one of my favorite works of his as well.

bondroodaddy

Kabaneri of the iron fortress’s ost is a gem

DWIPssbm

And Yoko Kano too

Atys_SLC

Yoko Kano has way more range than Sawano. But it's less recognizable, other than if it'sd a banger from the 90' the chance are great than it's her.

eliteteamob

Attack on Titan and Kill la Kill IN THE SAME YEAR

KimBeanie77

Listen to Hoyo-mix too. Not anime but they are so crazily good

Nerdd_

Everything done by Kensuke Ushio His portfolio includes the likes of A Silent Voice, Chainsaw Man, Devilman Crybaby, Bokuyaba etc. Evan Call is amazing as well! He's given soundtracks to the likes of Frieren and Violet Evergarden.

gordonfreeman_1

Fullmetal alchemist, both versions.

ulfselrach

This. I prefer Brotherhood's soundtrack overall, but the "Brothers" song in the 2003 is just so good.

gordonfreeman_1

Yeah, plus the OP and ED songs from 2003 were so great, Rewrite and Tobira no Mukou e for example!

Curious-Milk-3331

Agreed. Super nostalgic

Firefiststar

Bleach Bleach Bleach!! This anime has TONS of amazing OST. To name a few: Treachery, Here to stay, Quincy’s Craft, Soundscape to Ardor, Nube Negra, Shadows Masquerade, Invasion, And so many more

Disastrous_Channel62

Fr. People chastise Bleach for pretty much everything but if there's one thing that Bleach doesn't deserve slack apart from it's drip is it's ost's. It has a perfect mix of emotional and hype themes.

Revan_91

Girls Last Tour. Patlabor movie 2. Violet Evergarden. Frieren. Hellsing Ultimate. Yuki Yuna is a Hero. Youjo Senki. Overlord. Ghost in the Shell.

AtheismIsOK

Anything by Joe Hisaishi. He isn’t appreciated much on this sub but more widely it’s not so rare to see him considered amongst the all time greats, not just for anime music but for film music and even classical music as a whole.

LaughOrLament

Got to see him conduct the Prague Philharmonic Orchestra. Probably the most emotional I've ever been attending a concert. He is still touring, but I'd expect him to retire soon enough. So do please go see him if you have the chance!

flyingowl720

Gundam Seed Turn A Gundam Macross Frontier

geminellie

Grew up with Gundam SEED and SEED Destiny’s sountracks and I have to say, incomparable. Tatsuya Ishii’s “River” is my fave.

Familiar-Agency8209

Seed OST is the whole vibe and its so iconic just like Wing's.

SevenSwords7777777

Gundam Seed and Seed Destiny’s stories may not be the greatest, but no one can deny both the vocal and instrumental soundtracks are great It’s been fun watching clips of the new movie and recognizing/remembering the the OST that plays during some of the scenes

geminellie

I’ve yet to watch the movie but did they use the old OSTs from the series?

Technical-Zombie2621

Macross F: when Yoko Kanno produce an idol song

itorune

Speaking of Gundam, I still listen to Witch from Mercury's OST quite often.

TheBlitzStyler

durarara

kagshints19

Haikyuu

williamthebastardd

Yuki Hayashi is a legend for making that soundtrack.

ahdisease

Don't forget Asami Tachibana! She bring a lot of the more tense tracks ifthe Spotify credits are to be believed. Love Yuki Hayashi, but that soundtrack benefits so much from being a collaboration.

Pyoung3000

Yes! I love the Haikyuu and the MHA soundtracks. Both composed by Yuki Hayashi!

nolonger1-A

Adding Kiznaiver's OST too by the same guy.

cesardh123

Re:Zero has some of the best OSTs in anime, in my opinion. Honestly, without its diverse soundtracks, I wouldn't be as emotionally attached to the series as I am today. My favorite is "Requiem of Silence”. It’s what makes episode 15 of season 1 so emotionally captivating.

Samuawesome

Sword Art Online

daaalingohio

THANK YOU i came here to say this say what u want about the show is the music is built absolutely different. from early all the way to recent seasons every mood. epic battle, quiet, sad, insert songs. peak music

Fullmetalhunter01

No fr some anime aren’t the best but the composers did NOT come to play

Takoyaki64

Yuki Kajiura is the goat of OSTs imo. SAOs quality is quite controversial at least, but I never hear anyone complain about the OST. Most people agree that is an outstanding aspect of the show. And SAO is not even Kajiura's best work I'd say, that has to go to Madoka Magica imo.

Vjekov88

Cowboy Bebop has the best OSTs by far

staras-art

I can't believe how much these people don't appreciate Bebop. One of the most iconic anime OSTs ever

garrettjk1

LilFoxieUndercover

Too bad that's arguably the only good thing it has. Damn, how did they manage to fuck it up so bad? The manga was amazing, I'll forever wish for a remake like FMAB

ShadowZpeak

"glassy sky" singlehandedly carries S2

Glitter_puke

Better off searching by composers and watching the stuff they scored. * Yuki Hayashi brings the hype. * Hiroyuki Sawano peaks high but also has some absolute turds. Love his work on average but man is his bad stuff really bad. * Yoko Kanno is wildly diverse and talented. * Yuki Kajiura shines when doing haunting and beautiful, but can also do exciting and energetic. * Kevin Penkin does great work but for some godforsaken reason they usually mix his soundtracks really quiet for the actual shows (besides Made in Abyss). Shinichiro Watanabe is a director with excellent taste in composers. All of his work has a soundtrack worth checking out.

prdonja2

yoko kanno and kevin penkins are a step above the rest imo

Schizophrenic_goose_

“86” Not really popular but such a great anime and the osts there are amazing

HP_Killshot

"Avid" & "Voices of the Chord" By Sawano Hiroyuki

Oujii

86 is popular.

Schizophrenic_goose_

If it was popular, then they wouldn’t have been reluctant to release another season and wouldn’t have released a report saying that the anime does not sell enough (the report is in Japanese) 🤷🏽‍♀️

Andrej536

Fate Series, espacially Zero and Heavens Feel. The Garden of Sinners Clannad & Clannad Afterstory Kanon 2006

jabiz510

Violet Evergarden, although they are more on the soft and classical side of OSTs

jojos bizarre adventure OST is amazing

Fresh_Seesaw8283

Some underrated picks include: Mushishi- the soundtrack helps build the atmosphere so well Girl's last tour- Similar to Mushishi, the soundtrack builds the atmosphere of a post-apocalyptic world, equally calming as it is eerie and haunting. 86- Hiroyuki Sawano brings the soundtrack to another level of hype and emotion. Made in Abyss- Been mentioned many times before but this is Kevin Penkin's magnum opus, incredibly powerful and moving. Sousou No Frieren- The soundtrack has so many amazing songs that fit hype fight scenes, relaxing scenes and everything in between. There was never a moment when I felt the OST was not appropriate. Movies: Kara No Kyoukai- The incredible soundtrack helps elevate the show (series of movies) to an ethereal level during its story telling and especially its action scenes. RADWIMPS and Shinkai (Kimi No Nawa, Weathering with You, Suzume)- an incredible duo of producer and musicians who create an emotional soundtrack fitting for each show. One of my personal favourites. Liz and the Blue Bird- Kensuke Ushio's best soundtrack, despite all his other amazing works. It makes the movie even more intimate and personal, the beats of the music following the emotional beats of the movie. You could watch this by itself but I recommend you watch Hibike Euphonium Season 1 at the very least. Musicians you should look out for: Kevin Penkin \[Tower of God, Apothecary Diaries, Made in Abyss, Spice and Wolf Remake\] Kensuke Ushio \[A silent voice, Liz and the Blue Bird, Chainsaw man, Ping pong the animation, Devilman Crybaby) Evan Call (Violet evergarden, Sousou no Frieren) Hiroyuki Sawano (86, Attack On Titan, Bleach Thousand Year Blood War, Solo Levelling, Kill La Kill just to name a few)

Clockwork-Slick

code geass for sure

BeautifulSpell6209

Wait are you asking for osts as in opening and credit songs or do you consider yourself a true cinefile/audiophile and are asking for background productions? If it's the later there's probably samurai champloo, Gundam, gintama, ergo proxy, any ghibli, not to forget one piece and bleach and finally space dandy (the new one) and cowboy bebop. Hope this helps

Nichts_L

For me are Saint Seiya, Fate/Zero, Evangelion, Berserk CGI (the only good thing of the anime), *Kara* no Kyokai, Fate/Stay Night, Ergo Proxy.

dzentore

Initial D, eurobeat, base of memes

Interesting-Shirt455

aquazashie

Depends on your music taste I would say. I do love "***March comes in like a lion***" for its quiet songs, or "***Your Lie in April***" with its classical songs. But then there is also "***Initial D***" or "***MF Ghost***" with heart pumping eurobeat. =D Oh and recommending a show with a wild variety of songs would be "***Space Dandy***".

Since no one has mentioned it yet, Re:Zero has some of the most memorable OSTs in my opinion.

prdonja2

planetes, terror in resonance, made in abyss s2, land of the lustrous, sonny boy, violet evergarden, great pretender, ghost in the shell, durarara (dont watch past s1, it becomes very mid), cyberpunk edgerunners, oddtaxi, (obviously cowboy bebop and samurai champloo as well)

Your lie in April !!!!!! With a music based romance anime, you'd expect it to have a great OST, but ohh my God, was it great or was it godly. Each time you listen to tracks in the OST, your mind goes back to those scenes, and the emotions in the scene amplify because of the soundtrack. Also a great OST to work/study/relax or sleep

Toradora! And Re Zero have perfect mood fitting music. Like there was a part in Re Zero season 2 part 1 that was insanely intense and the music made it even more of a wonderful scene. I can’t find it but it was fantastic.

Shells23

I've been listening to Frieren: Beyond Journeys End almost daily for weeks now.

Agitated_Shock_9251

That I can think off the top of my head, I would say Aot, Naruto, Jojo, Your lie in April, Steins;Gate

Virginger96

Baccano, Violet Evergarden, Attack on Titan, Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood, Code Geass.

ElephantAccording324

If you’re fine with a slice of life kinda anime, i’ll go with the tatami galaxy, i personally liked the soundtracks.

Bonvantius

Symphogear, since you get double the value. Not only do you get close to 100 Banger songs, but the BGM osts are just as good. (The legend Evan Call even worked on 2 of the 5 seasons)

kitaknows

My absolute number one answer to this will continue to be Wolf's Rain. Yoko Kanno was famous in the industry for good reason and that soundtrack in particular was god-tier.

Almost all the comments mention epic or grandiose soundtracks. If you like ambient or instrumental soundtracks, I recommend listening to Kensuke Ushio. Absolutely phenomenal music that I always have in my top artists weekly.

Ghost In The Shell: Stand Alone Complex. There are a lot of tracks that only appear in the show as well that we cant find on any of the official OST's and they are all really good. The OST is great to listen to on its own and is paired so well with the scenes in the show.

Serial Experiments Lain has awesome music.
