Inuyasha. I just consider it the greatest story ever told over a basic but timeless idea that has the makings of a classic epic, the finest OST in all of anime, some of greatest and most emotionally powerful and resonant voice acting, a mixture of so many different facets that it encompasses nearly all genres at some point, and at almost 200 episodes (technically 193 episodes + four films), a sufficiently long enough series, the longest series of anything I ever watched with intent in order from start to finish in fact, that you won't be left wanting for a long time if you get into the world and characters.

Aria Lots of anime are filled with great themes and messages, but this is the only show where I would genuinly say that some episodes have changed the way I view the world around me, if just in small ways. The most beautiful, most calming, and most meaningful anime I have ever seen. And the [music](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vWFM2m6FZXU&list=PL-eC5fldSMeuxdeJvnEiWUewJSgDVFx5U&index=51), my god.

Hope this is your own personal list. Coz I think Your Name is overrated.

fph03n1x

Your Name's my personal test for a person's basic intellectual capabilities. Only people smart enough on both IQ and EQ are capable of enjoying this movie. Others might need to give it 3 to 4 re-watches before all the intricacies kicks in. One to read all the subs, two to realize the order of the story, three to put the above two together, and a fourth to finally notice the little intricacies that makes this the best movie to be ever written. Of course, this is all assuming someone has the necessary EQ and only low on IQ. PS: I tried to be not condescending. So, i hope the effort is appreciated.

dedliege

Tbh it sounds like you are saying dumb to people who are just not agreeing with your opinion. There is just one scene when he time travels to save his girlfriend, only that scene requires some brain to understand. 'Hello World' is a lot more confusing than this and is even better in story imo. And 'A silent Voice' is also better than your name. You are just blindly defending the movie without any solid points and calling others dumb.

fph03n1x

>You are just blindly defending the movie without any solid points and calling others dumb. Not really. I mentioned 20 best animes, and most of them have something edgy in them that could not appeal to one genre of watchers, and one could completely understand why someone might have an issue there; but calling your name as overrated only comes from people who do not understand the anime. To this day, I have only met people who are either in love with this anime, or else had no clue why others like it. There were no middle ground. And that makes you just think, okay, there's people who understand this anime, and those who don't. And thus, my metric of evaluation. \[Discussion about Your Name ahead - Do not read if you do not want to be spoiled\] I have been trying to forget the anime so that I could rewatch it later with more of a fresh memory, but for your sake, I will try to remember some of my favorite parts. I will first start with mentioning the comparison of Your Name with the Silent Voice. While Silent Voice is an amazing anime that just takes you on a real life emotional roller coaster, comparing it to Your Name is outrageous for Silent Voice is a one dimensional going forward waiting for next event type of animation. Compared to Your Name's covering multiple events in present past and future, while capturing all the same emotions. People who like A silent voice more are just simpler people, and hence, my original comment! All of the character buildings, amazing VAs, animations, and etc to the side, I'll just cover now talk about the cherry on tops. For me the accent swaps when they were swapping bodies felt just amazing along with the personality / capabilities / facial expression swaps. How she managed to win over his crush with a touch of her feminine side, and how also his friend found him cuter. How with every swap, the threads that were binding them got thicker and thicker, and how the story and explanations made sense. How the guy just seen enough to take the trip to save her, and how the anime was not written as a sob story where he goes to see her, for if she hadn't made it, what was the entire point of writing this story? How everytime they wake up, they don't remember about each other, but they keep seeking for each other for the thread that's binding them has connected them. How they're just missing each other, and how their life's just not complete for the thread's just pulling them together. How after the entire events that are done, she winds up in Tokyo and the thread that was connecting them was just bringing them together. My absolute favorite part in this entire animation was how when their trains pass at the end, they both try to look for each other. When they meet each other at the stairs, neither of them act abnormal. They both know they're missing something, and there's something they can't remember, but outright doing something stupid like jumping into each other's arms would've ruined the entire anime. Rather, they just passed each other, while both of them while the tension kept increasing with each step they took further from each other just like the thread is supposed to act and pull them back in. How they just found what they were looking for, by finding each other. And you would think that that's that, but there's still more! These are what you can get upon rewatch from the anime! The teacher explaining the background of the word twilight meaning who's that, and how they see each other at twilight not knowing each other and yet knowing. And when they meet at twilight, and Taki suggests that they write each other's names on each other's palms, Taki wrote "i love you" instead of his name, and Mitsuha didn't get to write her name, just managed to leave it at one stroke before the marker fell. Now, if you remember from the first scenes, when she wrote her name Mitsuha, it started with the down stroke, but the stroke she left on Taki's hand was horizontal, which is how "i love you" is spelled in Japanese. So, she also was about to confess but she failed to complete it! And there's also about the ritual and all that, but I think i've explained enough to clarify my point. Like how does someone even compare a one dimensional anime to this master piece is beyond me. This anime keeps you constantly at the edge of your seat, and it has little stuffs that makes your heart beat, and it restores your faith in destiny and so much more! It's perfectly written! So, yes, this anime's not overrated.

dedliege

You are saying that there are no middle ground people but in reality all those who don't think that this movie is "masterpiece" belongs to this group, coz no one really hates the movie they either really love the movie (like you) or they just like the movie but don't think its a masterpiece (like me). Anyway its just our perspective that what we consider a masterpiece and you believe it is, I wont deny your choice. I just shared my opinion that it is overrated.

fph03n1x

well, i've not yet met people who just kind of liked the movie, and didn't call it one of the best movies. It's either one of the best things, or it's meh. I'm okay with the difference of thoughts, but i have to defend it against comments that call it as overrated. Because Your Name's not really famous for a fan service, neither it has got everyone's dream girl or something; it's purely for the story being woven so perfectly together! But yeah, anyways, Your Name's the only title on my list that can get me to all riled up. The rest i can understand

dedliege

LOL who is saying that fanservice movie gets the title of masterpiece, if they get its just people's L opinion.

fph03n1x

what do you read?

F3337

I think you're confusing Makoto Shinkai with Satoshi Kon, lmao. Shinkai's films almost always depict some sort of teenage love story filled with supernatural elements.. it's absolutely nothing profound or philosophical and it doesn't take a genius to figure out. Shikai's best at creating pretty backgrounds and extremely detailed environments as well as great soundtracks accompanying them, his characters and stories are honestly pretty shallow and repetitive. (at least for me).

fph03n1x

It's only Your Name that I'm interested in. His other works are also okay, and I wouldn't call them the best either. It's just Your Name that I will always call perfect. I explained my pov to someone else, and it was quite long. Your Name's one of the few movies that I can see again and again just because of how well-written it is.

My favorites are One Piece and Detektive Conan. 😊
