I had this shit happen when I watched Panty & Stocking with Garterbelt like 5 years ago. For a show to end the way it did, I gotta have at least a movie to sort it all out. Yeah it was a wacky show, but that end was a real hard tonal shift. Same for the anime version of Deadman Wonderland, but it at least has the manga (which I need to hunt down now that I reminded myself).

Toradora's anime ended before the LN was over... the ending was unknown and the anime dudes did something as they felt that it fit the anime (and was done pretty well)... There is also a post credit scene... it is pretty good and give some closure...
Sometimes when i see an anime and we've been waiting too long for a season 2 i just say Fuck it and look for the Manga

Toradora will always be one of my favorites. I rewatch it every now and then whenever I just want to feel good and reminisce about stuff. There's also an annual rewatch scheduled here on reddit where the Christmas eve episode will fall on the actual Christmas eve.
There's just something about the bittersweet story of toradora that makes me love it so much. There's nothing too fancy about the story, but the way it was written... I don't even know what I'm saying anymore. It's just really, really good.

The first season is a good story conclusion, the thing you want probably is the after story, a 12 episode of them probably having a normal date or getting married, just like Clannad after story.
