Yeah even the manga has been kinda lacking recently. I’ve been enjoying it still but I can see the complaints that a lot of people are having as valid.
It honestly just seems like the author is speeding through plot points so that it can just be over. I'd go into detail but I don't want to spoil it for anyone who hasn't read the manga
I’m almost at the point of dropping the manga. It just feels like nothing important is happening for the last 10 or 15 chapters despite them being in the middle of an arc
Yup, the manga got shitty as well
It used to be so nice: All might was the strongest. We knew: That's the highest power level.
And now? Shit's being thrown in left and right, this power and that power, anytime it's convenient. It sucks
Everything up the the first half of season 3 is fine. It's actually kind of upsetting how much it's fallen off a cliff since then. I've read ahead of the anime in the Manga and I don't think it gets much better.
I've seen this a lot in this thread, such a shame because I thought the manga has been going really well recently. Maybe I'm just easily entertained? Lol
Might get hate for that but I dislike Kakegurui, I don't hate it tho, despite the fact that it's just not my type of genre I also just can't understand the hype with it.
I liked the addiction to gambling of characters and how much effort and mind they put into cheating. And in my opinion the main female character is not hot, but maybe for more people she is. I just like watching psycho- and sociopaths trying to outplay one another.
I watched Death Parade and enjoyed it for the most part, but I thought it was a bit too edgy (soundtrack slaps though)
I heard Kaiji inspired Squid Game so that looks promising
I'm in on this one. It was fun in a couple parts but a far stretch from being good. Felt like Food Wars but for gambling and minus all depth and character
Okay, they botched the THH anime(It felt like it was rushed as hell, and they skipped most interactions that were in the game). And the community is unbearably toxic when it comes to shipping or favorite characters. But the games are good at least. It’s an understandable hate.
I really enjoyed s1 for the interactions between the characters and the world and them slowly exploring a totally abandoned world full of concepts and ideas they never really knew about all while also going through their own problems. I agree s2 shit the bed tho.
Edit: by s2 i meant the second cour
I was like that for the longest time, and then randomly during Covid this past year I decided to give it a shot. I didn't really get into it until well into the 1st season (the character design for Naruto is really annoying at the start, but they change it by the 2nd season).
I ended up watching all 700 or 800 eps of it on Hulu. It has its ups and downs, but I'm definitely am glad I got to experience it...some really amazing moments, and some really cool characters that get some nice development over the series.
Demon salyer
The animation is one of the best i've seen in ly life (its ufotable so i don't think i could have expected less)
But the story and characters are the problem, they are not, just meh nothing thar revolutionary or even remotly appriciated
I won't say that it's overrated, i just think that people missunderstand on the fact that great animation doesn't equal great anime
I think the love for that show is by the younger generation. It is their dragonball/bleach/naruto. For the rest of who have seen that kind of show it is meh.
The whole anime was so stretched out cuz they had to create class 1a vs class 1b but in 20 episode so they added some stuff in and its so stupid they didn't even leave it at a cliffhanger the first 4 seasons were good but the 5th season was so boring like bruh
My biggest issue is we’re supposed to believe this wimp can climb to the top of a gang where respect and being able to fight are the only things that matter? It makes no sense
I think they pattern him to the original black dragon leader. He isn’t good at fighting but has great charisma. I got tired of waiting for him to get strong.
I think it's the kinda show that will work much better as a binge when it's done, rather than watching weekly
I like slow character development sometimes but waiting 6 months for anything is painful
Yeah it’s one of those things where you don’t question it. If you think too hard about all of the plot holes or the MC being a dumbass then it’ll ruin it for you. Totally agree though, really overrated
For me the problem wasn't that one, it's that I found it so boring, a lot of events don't lead to anything and it's just disconnettect from the really slow plot.
I know that a lot slice of life animes are like that but it's just not my genre
For me it was the total opposite, Nagatoro in the early chapters is way too much a bully and it feels like she's forcing herself into his life in one of the worst ways possible, and then it feels like the senpai just gets Stockholm Syndrome mid series. Recent chapters feel more natural, but those early ones were rough to get through ngl
We are almost at 250 its ridiculous I've dropped it 3 times already and came back cus a friend of mine keeps saying "oh oh its finally getting to the good part, ita getting good yo" (irk y but I typed it with trump's voice in my head)
Does other peoples opinion matter? If yes, then try to check out some more popular. If no, keep enjoying your stuff, everyone has different tastes. But dont beat yourself up, just have fun :)
Ikr, every demon encounter he would be like "shit this demon is stronger than me" , then he would eventually get some source of motivation and starts wining, then the whole demon's sob story. Second half of the anime became a long haul because of this.
Most shounen anime are like this and I hate it. I love shows like Full Metal Alchemist and Code Geass because the character doesn't actually get that much stronger throughout the show, they just get smarter, much more realistic.
Not to mention the “my dad was apparently some secret badass in the past” trope.
Ichigo from Bleach.
Yuji from Jujutsu Kaisen.
Tanjiro from Demon Slayer.
I’m sure there are more.
Ed from FMA doesn't work as an example because he doesn't get any special powers or abilities passed onto him from his father. Also, his dad wasn't some secret badass, just a guy who things happened to but wasn't special at all.
And the Gon example doesn't work too well either since the premise of the story is that his dad is someone special, and that he has his gift for huge nen reserve. He doesn't use his nen reserve to win fights either since nen is not about who is more powerful.
There needs to be a name for this situation. You have a show with fantastic animation but horrible and dry writing that keeps getting renewed for more seasons. But then you have on the other hand a show that has absolutely fantastic writing but a very small budget, so the animation is subpar and it does not get renewed (or takes years to renew).
For example. One Punch Man has fantastic writing and the manga is incredible. The first season was animated by a literal dream team at Madhouse, but then the second season was handed to JC instead. The second season absolutely bombed on multiple levels (animation, sound engineering, speed, etc) and now it seems like that might have killed any chance for a third season. And if there is a third season, it will likely be massively underfunded and end up being extremely low quality.
I didn’t think it was bad but was very straightforward and but I love the animation and the en English voice actors. But one thing about I didn’t like is it felt kinda empty not like boring but like one thing I did like was that tanjoro had sympathy for the demons
I grew up on the show, the story or the animation/story honestly isn’t that great, but I’ve watched the whole thing and edens zero. Love hate relationship with the show but it’s honestly not that great.
How long did you last?
I have two say, the first 3 parts are not that good as standalone shows, you need the context, the entire series is awesome, is my favorite anime and im currently in my 4th rewatch and i still find so many interesting a things
Most dialogue loses its impact on translation. The wordplay is on a next fucking level in the Monogatari series. The art is wack but that's the point. Kizumonogatari is one the best anime movies in my opinion.
Attack on Titan.
Edit: I genuinely did not expect the sorts of reactions from when I wrote this. In all honesty, “hate” is too strong a word for what I actually feel toward AoT. It just never grabbed me like it has those of you who have followed it all the way through. And more power to you all if you like it while still acknowledging whatever faults you took away from it 👍
I agree they fucked us, just waiting 4 years to make another season let alone if you're a manga reader back then its worse. I won't even get started on the new shit
I watched the first season, but with there not being a single hint as to where these things came from, it just didn't grab me. Then after hearing how long it took to start learning why they exists, I was glad I didn't keep going.
There are actually lots of hints about future plot twists and revelations in season 1, but an average viewer will not notice them until a second rewatch. I agree season 1 is slow, but next seasons get progressively better. If pacing is what turned you off, you'll definitely enjoy season 2. The whole story happens over the course of 2 days.
Here's the extra hot take that I don't think many will agree with: first "three" seasons were aight, nothing special but better than most shows and the plot was engaging enough for the paper thin characters and generic ideas to not bother me. But then this "final" season which was supposed to be super hype and turn everything around and blow my mind and be the cornerstone of all anime was so bad I couldn't even finish it
fruits basket lmao i rlly hate that super perfect female mc trope where she's the perfect definition of "soft, patient, wife material" she never stands up for herself and somehow all the ugly ass animals r inlove w her that trope is so overdone and tiring
It's a really interesting setting with an interesting premise. Fantastic art style and animation, great voice acting (at least in English). It takes the whole "anthropomorphic animals cartoon" and delves into the questions that come up around carnivores in these settings ,with cool noir murder-mystery elements.
Then jt throws all of that out the window to be a generic high-schools musical anime that is basically hentai with underaged animals. It's gross.
The protagonist is the generic dark-haired anime boy who is simultaneously unpopular but has women falling in love with him and is magically great at everything on the first try.
Like, I've seen bad anime. But Beastars is particularly egregious to me because it had so much potential, and had great technical execution, and all that was flushed down the drain.
Man i loved it before it went all Over-used High School Drama. I want a more adult versoon (not like that you sickos) where a student ends up giving in and eating meat, and then deals with the guilt or repercussions of that. Maybe devolves into a sad serial killer. Idk. it couldve been so dark and great
I'd love to see it following actual adult animals. Like, at least in their 20's. And actually focus on the plot about the gangs of carnivores eating people.
Ok i might get attacked but dragon ball and dragon ball Z ect i grew up more on naruto but dragon ball i just i dont know the artstyle hurts my eyes after too long and i just can get in to it ive tried many times.
As someone who grew up with DBZ, I totally get this. It will always have a special place in my heart, and yes, I do think Goku would win against most anime protagonists...but here's the thing: most of those characters Goku could beat are WAY more fleshed out, and relatable than Goku is. Gohan was always my favorite character from that show, and the fandom completely misses the point about him getting weaker when he gets older. HE NEVER ENJOYED FIGHTING, THIS IS A GOOD CONCLUSION TO HIS CHARACTER ARC. *Ahem* Sorry, just needed to get that off my chest before continuing lol.
Anyway, I could never get into Naruto because when it first came out, to me it felt like "DBZ, but with ninjas." And even though I've never watched a single episode, I'm willing to bet it's objectively better than DBZ is. It got to learn from all the mistakes DBZ made.
So while I consider all of Dragon Ball (aside from GT) quality anime, I don't recommend it to anybody unless they've already seen a lot of different anime, AND they take an interest in the classics. I might have randomly lost interest in My Hero Academia five seasons in, but I'll recommend that to new anime fans WAAAAAAY before DBZ.
MHA learned not only from DBZ's mistakes, but from Naruto's mistakes, AND the mistakes from various American comic books. It's just the BEST shounen anime out there these days. It has its problems like any other anime, but unless you're watching a Miyazaki film, you won't be getting perfection.
I feel the same way, I grew up with DBZ being the only anime I knew about and loved the show to death as a teen but years later when I got into more anime I realized the quality and depth of the show is shit in comparison. It will always hold a space place as my original anime with it's iconic fighting but I've since moved on to so much more.
Dragon ball hasn't aged well and DBZ has lots of little problems beyond just the filler. I've always considered it kinda like the Seinfeld of anime: Either it's your shit or you just can't get into it, and I respect that.
So people are gonna kill me for this but...i dont hate jjk but i think its overrated for sure ...i watched it till episode 16 but i was bored out of my mind and left it..its just my opinion..i never said its bad
For me jjk is above average or close to good but very far from great.
Watched it just fir the fights. Other than that it's JUST GOOD at most for me.
If you get any hate, I'm with you.
I think jjk heavily depends on what kinda taste you have. People who care for deep plot might get bored whereas people who focus more on exciting fights and hype will like it a lot.
Neon Genesis Evangelion
Edit: before you think of commenting that I'm too young or don't understand trauma. I'm a 29-year-old military veteran with PTSD and Bipolar disorder, which I've had since childhood because my father was incredibly abusive.
Just accept the fact there will be people that don't like the things you like.
For me, NGE is a lot more interesting with the context of its production, the director, its place in history and the overcommercialized mess the series became. It's not every day you find a series that is so mainstream and auteur at the same time.
Yeah. I also don't understand people saying that the male lead, i can't remember his name, was like this perfect dude, but holy shit was he fucking creepy. Total stalker, super possessive, like when he doesn't want her to wear a bikini in the beach episode cause he doesn't want other dudes to see her, and hes constantly touching her or trying to sneak a peek without consent.
I actually like it and I think it does has some interesting moments, but for a series that tries to portray Misaki as a strong and independent person (which she to some extend is in the sense that she works hard in school and her job) she relies an incredible amount of time in flawless Usui (although he is kinda funny but just there to impress female audience). But seriously the amount of times she would´ve been essentially destroyed without Usui´s help is impressive. I get she is a tsundere and all but seriously.
But this anime is still far better than Ookami Shoujo to kuro ouji ( wolf girl and black prince). The girl doesn´t have a shred of self-respect and the guy couldn´t be more of a prick even if he tried.
One Piece. Oh God that anime. I tried watching it for about 45 episodes, Ar Long park arc was ok but damm the characters on the whole are just weird and feel very shallow except Sanji and Zoro. Even then Sanji is cool but probably still shallow.
Makes a lot of sense, I love One Piece to the point I've read the manga multiple times and every single time I always remember how lacklustre the East Blue saga by itself. Without the rest of the story It's pretty mid imo.
If anyone is still kind of interested in the series despite some dislike and needs a little something to get them back into it: https://youtu.be/NkOhJ-ICnaU (feel free to ignore if you dont give a shit)
I like chainsaw man but i think is overrated and one year after it ended all the fandom do is simping for the females character that say a lot about how empty the story was
> one year after it ended all the fandom do is simping for the females character that say a lot about how empty the story was
This is every online anime fan community though, especially when there is no new content. No one has anything new to talk about so all they have to post is fanart, and fanart of hot girls gets the most clicks so that's what artists mostly produce.
Honestly...Attack on Titan.
The first season was pretty good. But the characters are really whiny and the show just loses it's luster for me. I get that they are literally kids when the show starts...buy I just don't care for the character building in this.
The first half with L was very fucking interesting. The whole dynamic between the two was amazing. After episode 18, which is like after L, it gets a bit boring. Honestly you can skip to the last episode because the ending is very important.
I do not like Cowboy Bebop
Tbh the only thing that would keep me watching it is Ed, but I heard that >!she leaves the group at some point!< so I have no motivation to watch it anymore. I really just do not get why it's so beloved. It feels like an animated soap opera
I used to like MHA but other than some good moments here and there I feel like it’s gotten mediocre recently
The manga feels different now
It sure does. It feels rushed and like details that need to be there aren't.
I recommend MHA: Vigilantes. It is SO good without all the boring school things and fillers.
I’m almost at the point of dropping the manga. It just feels like nothing important is happening for the last 10 or 15 chapters despite them being in the middle of an arc
Yup, the manga got shitty as well It used to be so nice: All might was the strongest. We knew: That's the highest power level. And now? Shit's being thrown in left and right, this power and that power, anytime it's convenient. It sucks
As soon as competition died , series started to die as well
I agree. It was amazing for the first few seasons. Last two have been so bland.
my hero academia
Everything up the the first half of season 3 is fine. It's actually kind of upsetting how much it's fallen off a cliff since then. I've read ahead of the anime in the Manga and I don't think it gets much better.
The Overhaul stuff was cool. But yeah it’s just bad now. The villains aren’t even characters, just obstacles for the heros
I've seen this a lot in this thread, such a shame because I thought the manga has been going really well recently. Maybe I'm just easily entertained? Lol
Might get hate for that but I dislike Kakegurui, I don't hate it tho, despite the fact that it's just not my type of genre I also just can't understand the hype with it.
> can't understand the hype with it Crazy girl is hot That's it, that's the whole thing
Yeah, that's it
I liked the addiction to gambling of characters and how much effort and mind they put into cheating. And in my opinion the main female character is not hot, but maybe for more people she is. I just like watching psycho- and sociopaths trying to outplay one another.

I'm in on this one. It was fun in a couple parts but a far stretch from being good. Felt like Food Wars but for gambling and minus all depth and character
Don't have one But I have some loved animes that entire community hate)
I'm curious, which ones?
Judging purely of his name i think SAO is one of them
LMAO but yeah loving SAO is a crime in these waters but since he's not ashamed of loving SAO I shall call this man based.
Screw the main SAO, but I love me some SAO alternative Gun Gale Online.
Sao season 1 was special tho
Specifically the first half.

Darling in the FRANXX
Season 1 was bad and season 2 was dogshit. People like it because hot waifu loves useless generic dude unconditionally for no reason.
I really enjoyed s1 for the interactions between the characters and the world and them slowly exploring a totally abandoned world full of concepts and ideas they never really knew about all while also going through their own problems. I agree s2 shit the bed tho. Edit: by s2 i meant the second cour

Yeah s5 sucked but the manga didn't do much better either. If we r looking at all 5 seasons the anime wins because of bones' great animations
I'm with you there
And i think Tokyo revengers is overrated as well
I’m on this train. Can’t stand the main character.

I feel like Black Clover gets a lot of hate because of Asta's voice, but I love the show.
I will protect you till the day I die. Fellow black clover fan
Black bulls unite
Black Clover slaps, those who can't stand Asta's voice just aren't cut out for it.
I genuinely enjoyed the show but had to stop watching it because I couldn’t take his constant screaming, just got annoying
Try again and watch the dub instead, it's much better.

Not necessarily. The time skip is coming. Fandom is gonna reverse. Time for Boruto Shippuuden lol 😌
Idk if you can just tell someone “i swear it gets good after the first few hundred episodes!! Just wait for time skip!”

All of naruto I’ve tried hard to like it but it’s never been my thing. I don’t down people for liking it its just not my thing
I've read all of Naruto. Thought it was okay but just nothing special
Same, I figured it's because I didn't watch it as a kids.
I think most people only have room for one long running flagship shonen. For me it’s One Piece. I just feel so neutral about Naruto.
Yea for me I’ve always been a fan a dragon ball watched all series. And i grew up watching DB so it could be that as well

Jujutsu Kaisen, as a veteran anime watcher I found it to be extremely overrated. Animation was top notch tho
Beastars.

But can YOU beat Goku, tho?
*AHEM* Makoto Shinkai is right up there with Miyazaki. Easily.
Dragon ball hasn't aged well and DBZ has lots of little problems beyond just the filler. I've always considered it kinda like the Seinfeld of anime: Either it's your shit or you just can't get into it, and I respect that.
I'm loving rewatching DragonBall for that absolute comedy of how poorly it has aged. Lmao constantly.
Naruto never seem to be interesting for me personally
So people are gonna kill me for this but...i dont hate jjk but i think its overrated for sure ...i watched it till episode 16 but i was bored out of my mind and left it..its just my opinion..i never said its bad
For me jjk is above average or close to good but very far from great. Watched it just fir the fights. Other than that it's JUST GOOD at most for me. If you get any hate, I'm with you.
I think jjk heavily depends on what kinda taste you have. People who care for deep plot might get bored whereas people who focus more on exciting fights and hype will like it a lot.
And the characters are genuinely fun
Naruto just doesn’t work for me
I liked naruto but sakura's character is just super bad writing. Well I respect your opinion though
Sakura was so disappointing she really just existed to have a crush on Sasuke and endgame as his house wife.
Neon Genesis Evangelion Edit: before you think of commenting that I'm too young or don't understand trauma.
I scrolled too damn far to see this I hate the MC he is just so whiny
Tokyo ghoul.
Fucking slime...
kaichou wa maid-sama. it has an 8+ rating on MAL so i thought it's a good/decent romcom. couldn't even finish season 1.
Fairy Tail, Naruto
MHA deku is a lil bitch
Jobless reincarnation is too horny.
I really wish it wasn’t so horny. I’d enjoy it a lot more if the MC stopped caring about his ED and actually tried to better himself
If anyone is still kind of interested in the series despite some dislike and needs a little something to get them back into it: https://youtu.be/NkOhJ-ICnaU (feel free to ignore if you dont give a shit)
Honestly Tokyo revengers wasn’t that great to me
I like chainsaw man but i think is overrated and one year after it ended all the fandom do is simping for the females character that say a lot about how empty the story was
> one year after it ended all the fandom do is simping for the females character that say a lot about how empty the story was This is every online anime fan community though, especially when there is no new content. No one has anything new to talk about so all they have to post is fanart, and fanart of hot girls gets the most clicks so that's what artists mostly produce.
one punch man
Gotta be Tokyo Ghoul I've tried 3 times. Kaneki is just not an interesting character.
Yuri On Ice is overrated. I was disappointed because it wasn't nearly as good as what my friends were making it out to be.
The queer rep is great but the show is boring, I’m not watching a boring show just for the kiss at the end
AOT
Boku no hero academia, I don’t hate it but for me, it’s a bit overrated (maybe it’s because of the genre?)
Seven deadly sins
Same. I found it to be incredibly predictable and I din't like a single one of the Characters aside from Ban.
Honestly...Attack on Titan. The first season was pretty good. But the characters are really whiny and the show just loses it's luster for me. I get that they are literally kids when the show starts...buy I just don't care for the character building in this.
And they are yelling. All. The. Time. Not a very subtle anime.
Death note. The whole my plan was for your plan to account for my plan cliche really makes any show unenjoyable for me. I just couldn't finish it.
Ironically that's the reason why I enjoyed the show. And I love evil protagonists. I consider it a masterpiece. But I still respect your opinion.
The first half with L was very fucking interesting. The whole dynamic between the two was amazing. After episode 18, which is like after L, it gets a bit boring. Honestly you can skip to the last episode because the ending is very important.
Killing L to just replace him with Mini L was the biggest mistake. It’s like they wanted to have their cake and eat it too.
Obligatory reminder to sort by controversial
Mirai Nikki
Full metal Alchemist brotherhood i just found it ok,not so great or bad just ok
I do not like Cowboy Bebop Tbh the only thing that would keep me watching it is Ed, but I heard that >!she leaves the group at some point!< so I have no motivation to watch it anymore. I really just do not get why it's so beloved. It feels like an animated soap opera
