That, and / or improve efficiencies elsewhere too. You would think over all the years of producing these mags (and making miniscule changes) that their manufacturing would have become more efficient, their supply chain should have become more mature, and their shipping capabilities could have improved.
Nah he’s got a point, I would prefer they cut the cover and keep it X dollars instead of raise the price 2 dollars and keep the cover. My comment was more of a general gripe about our current economy state, and how we shouldn’t have to be worrying about this shit in the first place
Last job I had, there was a Del Taco right down the street. Looked over one night on my way home and saw a giant "Were hiring" poster for graveyard positions, starting at 23 dollars an hour. 23 fucking doll hairs an hour to stir ground beef every 30 mins.
This was 2 years ago, too. Might be higher now.
Yes. I keep them on loaded mags in the safe. That way the rounds aren’t putting too much pressure on the plastic feed lips.
Edit: spelling from are to aren’t. Also, see the good response below from SomeNoob.
I mean according to the people who design and make them this is bullshit. They are for preventing debris intrusion and impact protection.
“Feed Lip Stability Over Time There is a common misconception that the dust/impact cover supplied with most PMAG products is in some way required to prevent feed lip creep or spread over time. This is not the case. When initially loaded, the PMAG GEN M3, and all PMAGs in the current lineup, exhibit a tiny normalization of feed lip geometry within a very small window of time measured in days, and then this geometry then remains stable over many years, heat cycles, cooling cycles, and outdoor UV and weather exposure. We routinely load magazines and place them into stable indoor, hot, cold, and outdoor exposure storage to monitor various batches of material. These magazines are occasionally function tested and reloaded with no issues.
As implied by the name, the dust and impact cover is indeed designed to keep debris out of magazines during storage, and to provide an extra measure of feed lip protection for magazines in storage, such as stuffed in an ammo can in a tactical vehicle used in off road operations, or for aerial delivery, kicking containers of loaded mags off of moving vehicles, and the like. This ensures that magazines that may normally be out of sight, not maintained, or subjected to delivery handling that is many, many times the normal testing and usage criteria will perform flawlessly after a quick flick to remove the cover.”

Good to know. I use mine since they came with the first three I bought, but I’ll remember the above with future purchases (ie I probably won’t rush out to buy pack of magazine dust covers).
I honestly didn’t know they served a purpose, but funny enough I always kept them and put them back on my loaded mags over the years. At least when I remember to
I just learned this a few months ago. It’s not good to store a loaded pmag without using that cover. I have always throw out what I assumed were just dust covers.
I've had loaded PMags stored for half a decade+ and I've never had an issue (including sub zero temps, rough handling, etc). Never even considered using one of those little contraptions.
I had PMAGs loaded for a little over a decade. A couple had dust covers and a couple didn’t. When I finally decided to fire them, I didn’t have issues with any of them regardless if they were stored with a dust cover.
We say that, but has anyone ever encountered that in real life, even after storing them for 4 or 5 years? It’s like using emory cloth on your gun smithing lathe. It’s supposed to grind away at the ways and instantly ruin it, but people have been doing it in machine shops for decades without any loss of precision. Sometimes, I wonder if we hear something enough times on a gun forum, we just stop questioning it.
I keep them on my loaded storage. Keeps the feed lips from getting warped. That's what they were originally intended for. There's a few videos out there showing bent feed lips causing malfunctions on PMAGs and other poly mags.
Yes. Unless you have your AR15 stored in a case or gun vault the dust cover shouldn’t be underestimated. I use my AR15 for hunting. The amount of dirt that gets gummed up in there is crazy if you don’t have a working spring or aren’t flipping it closed.
Yeah, doesn't look like any of those came with the covers. I'm sure they're about a dime a dozen tho (i would hope) on their own, so if you have a use for them, it shouldn't be too hard on the wallet
I just found this out yesterday when i went to pick up a few extra mags. Was like wtf where the dust cover? Store sells gen 2 extra covers but not gen 3.covers. Getting cheap on us and making it more expensive for those that want to have them
I just got down voted on another sub because I said a guy needed dust covers for his Magpul mags to store them
An a dude was like na I don't think they mean the dust cover it's the thing on the top of the mags ...
Whatever magpul stuff goes on my guns usually comes off within a week or two. I keep trying them and i'd rather just buy duramags, broomsticks/emissary foregrips, sopmod stocks, ergo grips/rail ladders. Nothing they make that i have tried strikes me as a killer product that does its job the best. I have a box full of takeoffs that i practice spray painting on, at least.
AK mags are all pretty nice outside of the cheap new production ones like AC Unity or Tapco's. I have some beautiful blued yugo BHO's that look and feel great. The new or old bulgie steel and the new polymers you mentioned are always a good recommendation.
Seems to me youre hating on shit just to hate on shit.
Or you probably dont shoot enough to realize PMAGS dont fucking die.
Either way whatever crap you've consumed to come to the conclusion that pmags are bad, is wrong.
They're 15+ years proven on multiple battlefields, extremely shitty environments, and dumbass grunts constantly dropping them. Not including holding the record for round counts on magpul gen 3s
I never said pmags were bad, i just said i like Duramags. You guys have some serious issues though, think about how regarded it is to downvote someone so harshly for mag preference. This entire sub is a bunch of larping pussies too sensitive to hear someone doesn't like pmags lol
I got them here https://gunmagwarehouse.com/catalogsearch/result/?q=New%20Year%20New%20Gear&goal=0_0d355b7f6d-63f782b788-436224315&mc_cid=63f782b788&mc_eid=5ef733df23
Love threads like this is outs the people who buy into bullshit about things like feed lip tension during storage. Those things are nice to have to keep shit out in bad conditions but not necessary for the guy who loads a bunch of mags and sticks his gear in a safe or cabinet for the duration.
Hi, I’m the dust cover, the magazine and I got into an argument so I was told off by magpul, sorry for the inconvenience to anybody that expected to see us together these holidays
Jokes on them I always misplaced mine anyways
I threw them away when I bought my first. I thought they were a disposable cover and once loaded, I wouldn’t need it
They like legos, I always step on them barefoot at nighttime when going to take a leak
I’ve also stepped on one before. Worse than any Lego imo, that shit hurt so bad lol.
I even bought some for my G2's. All me if I know where they are after.
Didn't they used to snap on the bottom of the old mags for storage? Maybe that was gen1 or something
Yeah they did. The good ol days.
Do they not anymore?
The Gen 3 doesn't. Gen 2 probably does still.
Magpul must be struggling with all those sweet military contracts. Poor bastards...
Oh god Bernie has guns now “let me tell you what to include since you’re so rich”, literally the worst people on earth
Stingy is the word

Its how they keep from raising the price, and not every one uses it.

Or the executives could take a pay cut.
That, and / or improve efficiencies elsewhere too. Seriously, it’s Pennie’s for those clips.
But then how would the money trickle down to us though?
Yes I'm sure the cost of producing those dust covers is astronomical.
You’re right though
Why is everyone downvoting you????
Because they dont like how capitalism works and think everything is a fairy tail world where prices never change
No, it is because the cost to produce and include is truly insignificant
Nah he’s got a point, I would prefer they cut the cover and keep it X dollars instead of raise the price 2 dollars and keep the cover. My comment was more of a general gripe about our current economy state, and how we shouldn’t have to be worrying about this shit in the first place
Thank you. I swear reddit is just a bunch of kids who don't understand basic economics 😂
It is though! LOL the hive mind is real, no matter the sub
That's the whackiest part.
Don’t worry. We’ll get both
Shrinkflation at it again
I've bought 3 direct from Magpul and they didn't come with it. All the ones from my local gunshop came with them.
Local gun shop is probably still selling older ones made before Nov. 1 2023
Aw man. My dog loves chewing on those
Does anyone use those ever
It's more so the premise of paying the same price for less product.
This. They ain't hurting for money that bad.
They had a job posting for a bachelors degree IT position and only offered 18 dollars an hour
There are entry level positions, no experience or education, in my small town starting at over 20. That's insane.
Yeah, Walmart in the same town paid 21 for a warehouse job
Warehouse job will probably have more movement as well
Ya 10-15 miles a day if you’re case picking
I live in MT, and Taco Bell is starting folks at $22/hr.
No way.....

I'd rather pay the same price for less than pay more for the same tbh
I do.

For storing them loaded.

> It’s not good to store a loaded pmag without using that cover. Why?
The feed lips can spread over time. Granted, that knowledge was from gens 1 and 2; no idea if it's important in the latest versions.
Where the hell are you storing them, your truck bed?
[удалено]
And yet the patent mentions feed lips spreading. So I keep them on for all of the above reasons
I've had loaded PMags stored for half a decade+ and I've never had an issue (including sub zero temps, rough handling, etc). Never even considered using one of those little contraptions.

Yes, if you store your mags loaded you 100% should be using them...
When filling mags to put into a sealed ammo can, yes.
+1 to using them as well. They keep them lips tight.
You should be for long term storage if you don't want the lips deformed.
We say that, but has anyone ever encountered that in real life, even after storing them for 4 or 5 years? It’s like using emory cloth on your gun smithing lathe. I use them for the stored mags and keep off spring pressure and dirt and debri

Ya'll can have mine. They sit in a zip lock baggie
DIBS
Shrink-flation strikes again! Lolol
The biggest problem was the change between m2 and m3 where you cant clip the cover to the bottom of the mag anymore
I throw them away, I didn't realize folks actually used them.
[удалено]
I use them. I'm not paying extra for them. I'll buy old stock til I can't any longer.
[удалено]
Noted.
Seems like something they should include in the package..... A little "scan your upc code for a free impact cover" card.
I never use them but dammit I want it on my mag when I buy it
That piece I always throw away?
I'm okay with PMag prices. They are still fair. I'm more happy not to be contributing to plastic waste by throwing them all away immediately
Was it after November 1st that they were shipped to wherever you bought them from?
They do have uses outside of “dust cover”. When traveling TSA considers a loaded Pmag with dust over to be ‘original packaging’
Shrinkflation is real... next we'll see standard cases of ammo 900rds
I got one about a year ago without one from Bass Pro. Did they do this before?
Was it a gen 2 or 3? Because guys are saying the gen 2s didnt have them
It was a gen 2
Yeah, doesn't look like any of those came with the covers. I'm sure they're about a dime a dozen tho (i would hope) on their own, so if you have a use for them, it shouldn't be too hard on the wallet
did those covers only come with specific pmags? got some gen-2 pmags back in 2022 and never got a single mag with one.
Gen 2 used to come with them, but they stopped years ago and only included them with the Gen 3 until now evidently.
Well thanks for sharing, I'd have no way of knowing as I couldn't buy such things.
Does this mean they can start using the excess plastic to start making straight 20rders again???
I’ve probably thrown like 200 of those dust covers in the trash😂
People use these? I’ve always thrown them out.
I have purchased 15 pmags over the past decade and never noticed that they came with a dust cover. I am either blind or dumb, or both.
Only the gen 3's do.
I just found this out yesterday when i went to pick up a few extra mags. Was like wtf where the dust cover? Store sells gen 2 extra covers but not gen 3.covers. Getting cheap on us and making it more expensive for those that want to have them
Bidenomics
It would be nice if their sales dropped 30% after this bs and they lost millions trying to make a 50c more per mag.
I just got down voted on another sub because I said a guy needed dust covers for his Magpul mags to store them An a dude was like na I don't think they mean the dust cover it's the thing on the top of the mags ...

pmags are the one thing that can't be beat, best mag ever
Would rather have ss duramags for my AR, steel bulgies for the ak's.
Polymer bulgies are under rated AKs steel locking tabs and polymer body for $11
AK mags are all pretty nice outside of the cheap new production ones like AC Unity or Tapco's. I have some beautiful blued yugo BHO's that look and feel great. The new or old bulgie steel and the new polymers you mentioned are always a good recommendation.
Ehh, Magpul makes the best Mag without question, arguably the best stocks and grips too.
everybody can have their own opinion, i dislike them personally.
How can you dislike Magpul Pmags ? What is there to dislike ?
Plastic feed lips
Seems to me youre hating on shit just to hate on shit. Or you probably dont shoot enough to realize PMAGS dont fucking die. The ones I just got all have them
Dust covers came with my pmags. Where'd you get them from?
The ones I got probably over 5 years ago didn't have them. I didn't even know these came with dust covers
Gen 1 and 2 pmags didn't come with them. Don't believe they ever did. Gen 3 did.
Gen 2 originally came with them
I stand corrected
That would make sense lol
Ahh that’s what those are for? I thought it was just part of the packaging
What’s a dust cover?
I always through mine away anyway. At least they're trying to maintain their prices.
If anyone has some sitting around collecting dust or bout to toss some shoot me a dm id love em.
I’d say at least a quarter of my pmags those dust covers won’t snap on anymore.
I’d say at least a quarter of my pmags those dust covers won’t snap on anymore.
You can have mine.
Oh wow I just got 20 about a month ago and they all had covers.
Likely sent to the retailer before 1 Nov. then
I got them here https://gunmagwarehouse.com/catalogsearch/result/?q=New%20Year%20New%20Gear&goal=0_0d355b7f6d-63f782b788-436224315&mc_cid=63f782b788&mc_eid=5ef733df23
Never used them but never had the heart to throw them away. I have a .50cal ammo can full of them that i might use one day, or recycle them
Don’t people use them for storing packed mags?
I always threw them away and was just starting to like them 😫 lol I probably threw 200 of those fuckers away
So what's a dust cover cost? $15?
Amazon has them in a 6 pack for $12.49
Amazon also has 3-packs (Gen 2) for $3.75 and BassPro/Cabela's has 3-packs (Gen 2) for $4.
Love threads like this is outs the people who buy into bullshit about things like feed lip tension during storage. Those things are nice to have to keep shit out in bad conditions but not necessary for the guy who loads a bunch of mags and sticks his gear in a safe or cabinet for the duration.
Oh so that’s where they went…
i thought i was supposed to throw those away.
I don't even remember how many I've thrown away
They're cheaping out on us
Wouldn't know.. never used one.
This sucks! I have a 5 gallon bucket that’s 3/4 full of these. Now I’ll never fill it
Hi, I’m the dust cover, the magazine and I got into an argument so I was told off by magpul, sorry for the inconvenience to anybody that expected to see us together these holidays
Weird bc I bought my last mags like 2 years ago and only the ar10 mags came with dust covers
I always bought Gen 2 mags for $6 - $8 each.
