He is right, but the songs going around on the internet led to the publicity. That was their version of gigging until you get noticed. We were all talking about Arctic Monkeys at school and sharing the songs with the uninitiated. When they released, I bet you look good on the dancefloor as a traditional single we all went out and bought it with the mission of getting them in the top 40. I still remember sitting at the radio with my friend, and when the top ten rolled around and we hadn't heard it, we felt like we'd failed. When it came in at number 1, we were shocked. Mainly because we had no idea how many records you had to sell to get number 1. Now they weren't just being talked about in school and the NME they were on the news and everyone wanted a piece of them after that.
