Define "better"...

Trick_Muted

Not so annoying and miserable to watch and listen to

stefanfr

It's hard to answer without a spoiler but yes and somewhat yes

dhrus786

I mean I felt the same way about Laurel throughout the first few seasons (and also in S6-S8), but believe me it gets better right around this time in S4 till the entirety of S5 (although Felicity will get a lot more annoying in S4 particularly).

queenyggdrasil

All the CW shows donā€™t know how to write women from what I can tell. I would say legends and black lightning did maybe a better job.

bruvting33

Legends definitely did the best job. I like the female characters in that show a lot

NefariousSerendipity

Captain Lance on top. Dont start me on Gideon ;)

bruvting33

Those two got it for sure (I know what you mean). Zari is great too. But fr all the female characters on the show (mostly) are great. Sara, Gideon, Zari, Nora, Ava, Amaya, Astra, Spooner (pretty much everyone aside from hawkgirl). I grew to like all of them.

NefariousSerendipity

they have actual personalities. and have leading roles!!

bruvting33

And the writers donā€™t create drama for no reason like with Felicity and Oliver in season 4. And each character is justified in the way they initially act or lash out sometimes. And they all just mesh so well together even though they are insanely different (one resurrected, ones a clone, one was kidnapped by aliens as a kid, one has been in hell forever, one is an ai turned human, etc.)

Anakinflair

I don't think the issue was how they wrote female characters. I think the problem was the writers played favorites. They gave bigger roles to some, and minimized others- usually leading to them leaving the show. Just look at Willa Holland- Season 3 should have been her season. Instead, she ended up being minimized in the back half in favor of Oliver and Malcolm. I firmly believe this is what led to her asking for a reduced schedule in Season 4, where she inexplicably vanishes for the final episode of the crossover where she should have been in the final fight; and then ultimately led to her asking for her release. And it wasn't just female characters- just look at the revolving door of talent on Supergirl. I'm betting the actors playing James and Winn both asked for their release because they never really had anything to do. Winn did more, and they tried with James as Guardian, but it was never any real big storylines. This isn't a knock on the actors who got the major storylines, just the writers who never really learned to juggle all of the characters they had to work with.

queenyggdrasil

I am thankful for your response. It has helped open my mind to alternative perspectives.

daseweide

OP, itā€™s bad writers that scripted Laurel to act like thatā€¦ I donā€™t think a fictitious woman can ruin anything that exists in our world.

Trick_Muted

Itā€™s starting to ruin the show

daseweide

Oh, keep watching. Ā I promise Laurel will be the least of your problems throughout season four šŸ˜Š

KBYoda

I didn't mind her so much after the S5 character developments, simply because both her role and personal conflicts in the show made more sense with how the character was being used in the plot. I had always felt that she didn't have a proper explanation that justified her being in the position she was during S3 & S4. EDIT: sorry for the vagueness, but spoiler ya know

future_CTO

I never really had an issue with Laurel. She was someone struggling with the fact that her thought to be deceased boyfriend came back to life, current guy she loved died, thought to be dead sister comes back to life, and then dies. And she also struggled with alcoholism.

Adventurous_Raise784

Not alone I canā€™t stand her. I rewatched through a couple seasons and just fast forward through half the scenes with her

Major-Assumption-535

Felicity Is worse, but yes, Laurel could've been scripted better

She's hot. That's about it.

A2I0S08

Felicity's is WORSE. That Four-Eyed Bitch killed the Show and ruined one of the best Comics Relationships.

Radiant-Strain3330

Iris is even worse

future_CTO

The producers were very clear from the start that Arrow was not going to be 100% comic book accurate. We literally saw that the moment Oliver cheated on Laurel. So how you blame that on felicity I donā€™t know.

A2I0S08

I get that they weren't going to be 100%. But that's like making a Batman Movie and Selena isn't the Love Interest. Because Green Arrow and Black Canary is as big as Batman and Catwoman. Plus wouldn't you rather have a couple who are both similar, alike and can kick ass?

future_CTO

Sure Iā€™d rather have that, which is why when I want, that I read the Green Arrow comic books or watch the cartoons.

foggywildcat

No she's a nightmare the whole time

thareal3st

Yes thankfully she dies šŸ¤£ and then a second Laurel from the Flash comes as a badass
