Malayalee here who married a Telugu. Cannot speak for the entire community but, petsonally, I don't hate Telugus at all. I find Telugu people very simple and down to earth. After marriage I got to see the the Telugu culture and household closely and I honestly find it way better than Malayalee culture. Mallus have this weird condescension for anything outside their culture and a strange obsession with status and materialistic gain. I don't see this in Telugus at all. Just a bunch of simple, hardworking people who are very accepting of outsiders. I do however find the Telugus I've met to be a little judgemental and conservative and this has been a bit of a hindrance in bonding with them the way I wish I could.
But in general, yeah, mallus do have a certain superiority complex that makes them look down on outsiders.

Iam interested in learning the language as much as I can in an year or two before I move there, I don't want to start from picking up the words there, I'll try on my own from now. Worked in Cochin for a brief period and mallus are some of the best people I've ever interacted with. They are very welcoming, used to ask about our movies, food and the language. What you've seen might just be a small yet loud minority on the internet.
Basically there is a lot of hatred online, there is not much reason even for them to hate on us, may be only some mass movies they saw in telugu felt cringe for them so they casually say telugu movies were bad but now thats also changing due to pan india movies and ssr. But other than that no hate much. May be it will be magnitude of orders higher hate in tamil subs, just my guess.
