Addys sandwich bar, I think that’s what it’s called, they have great lunch foods and daily specials. They’re a bit pricer but so so good and good sized portions
I came here to say that.
Everything is good, you can get really healthy stuff if you want or beautifully rich and filling. It's the only reason I miss working downtown.
I was wondering why I gaining so much weight eating sandwiches there until I learned duck confit is duck cooked in butter.
So good.
They have an app too which is great because they always have a line.
Yup, new owners and they're now at the new pod on fifth that replaced the old pod on fifth.
I didn't find the noodles to be as pleasantly chewy, but that might've just been the case of having the lid closed on the container causing the noodles to steam. I think I remember the previous owners used to hand them over with a small gap in the lid.
Yeah, she used to prefer that you don't close them at all! Eat them immediately. If you insisted on carrying them back to the office, she would carefully place them in a plastic bag with the container lid open.
I was also disappointed the one time I went post new ownership. I always get the ma la noodles and they just weren't as "punchy." Still great, but not like they used to be.
You are in luck my friend if you like Chinese food.
Din Tai Fung opened in the pioneer sq mall near the downstairs food quart. It’s really good food and dumplings / long bao. They have great online ordering and the pricing is good for quality food. Their portions aren’t huge but good for lunch
This has been on my list! I tried to go there today and the place was deserted in the lobby but the guy told me there was a 25 minute wait. It felt a little intimidating 😂 I'm going to try to get my team to go there and get reservations. What's your favorite thing to get if you're eating solo? The soup looked amazing.
I just found out I can get din tai fung delivered to my house from this location for free on one of the delivery apps. I did this recently and it was DELICIOUS. Every dumpling was delightful. Noodles were super tasty. Those green beans were perfect.
The braised beef noodle soup is quite good. I've had that, pork xiaolongbao, green beans, pork fried rice, and the doughy medallions. Everything is good. I really like the fried rice for lunch. Service is great and they start to bring out food promptly after ordering.
Going with a group is a good way to try a lot of the dumplings and dishes. It's family style and everything works well for sharing. Their noodle and rice dishes are also good for a solo lunch. Check online if you want pictures of everything.
Everything. Always get the string beans. Also the best fried rice, cucumber salad, seaweed bean sprout salad, soup dumplings, wok fried noodles. The dumplings and buns are great. Yeah all of it.
Whole bowl always had a line out the door, interested to see if that's changed. There used to be a really good south American cart that had similar food but with fresh grilled chicken, I'll have to try to remember the name.
There are definitely times when the line is 10+ deep if you go between 1200 and 100pm. The lady pumps out bowls pretty quick when people know what they're ordering.
It's surprising how long it takes people to order considering they only have 1 item on their menu.
Ohhh whole bowl! I used to work in the Pittock Block when the 10th Street food carts were there. I rotated between whole bowl and 808 Grinds so often! Amazing!
I like La Jarocha but one time I tried to go at noon on a Saturday and they were closed despite their hours saying open. The food hall with the smash burger place nearby is good too.
Xin Ding dumpling house is a bit of a hike from Pioneer Square but it’s along the Red/Blue lines at Skidmore. I can’t speak to their lunch specials but their soup dumplings are amazing.
I like Angelina's for fresh & yummy greek food, and BAE's Chicken just a block away from there. Their honey butter chicken sandwich ($13) is to die for.
One of my go-to places. Love it.
However, last time I was there, they seemed to be a bit discombobulated, and the owner - the older guy who started the place - wasn't around. And there were new pictures of him by the register. I really hope he's ok. Don't suppose anyone knows?
I would add recommendations for two carts: El Pilon and Frida's Kitchen. But note that the menu on the Frida's Kitchen website is not at all the same as the one on the cart front, so you'll probably need to order at the cart.
Luc Lac? I have never waited more than 5 minutes to order and food comes quickly. I’ve always had seating available for myself and up to a party of 6 as soon as we order. I’ve been for lunch ranging during times from 11:30am to 1:30pm and also for happy hour.
It sounds like you might have had a negative experience there, which I’m sorry for. If you’re a fan of Vietnamese food, it’s worth a retry. However, if you dislike it because it’s trendy and the people there look cool, then might as well stay away.
Another note: their portions are generous and I’ve usually had enough for a meal and to take some home.
Their food is amazing don't get me wrong. While they do have a reputation for being the trendiest greatest restaurant in Oregon history i just don't appreciate how everything the time I go there they're playing music so loud that I have to scream to talk to my friend
I work in the same area. My go-tos:
Cuon - Beef Pho, Bun w/ grilled shrimp and lemongrass pork, lemongrass spring rolls
Khao San - sit-down Thai
Khob Kuhn - food pod Thai
Nong's - if I need some comfort food
Potbelly - on Thursdays you get double points that will get you a free sandwich quicker. The wreck is low-key delicious with the horseradish aioli and hot peppers.
Raising Cane - when I feel like cheap fried chicken
DTF - expensive lunch soup dumplings same location as Raising Cane
No. 1 Bento - food pod galbi
The Soop - sit-down galbi with banchan
It's accurate though! They roast their own turkey, and it's pretty tasty. Lots of other sandwiches too, as well as some asian fusion fare, but that's their calling card.
Their sandwiches and wraps are amazing! Also their curry is very good. But I love, love love TP’s spicy ramen so much
House of Ramen - I like the #9 tonkatsu with chashu pork
LucLac but i heard it’s the hottest restaurant in oregon. You’ll probably be in a huge line with all the other trendy millennial tourist. On a side note i miss mi mero mole deeply.

I really like Love Belizian by PSU. Good prices and the chicken is very tender. The sauces are great. Kind of feels taped together inside which adds a certain charm.
Thai Peacock has never let me down.
Their crispy trout dish never disappoints
Just had their Pad Thai (I'm a basic b\*) yesterday for lunch and it did not disappoint. 10/10 having that again soon.
Kalé and Buranko Cafe & Bar
Came to say Kalé as well!!!!
I like buranko. It’s become my go to spot for team lunches downtown during the work week, a lot of my old spots for that closed during the pandemic
The orange crispy chicken at buranko is 👌👌
Addys sandwich bar, I think that’s what it’s called, they have great lunch foods and daily specials. They’re a bit pricer but so so good and good sized portions

I work down the street from you. Tanaka Nong's Khao Man Gai Ryoma Ramen Baker's Mark The Star Iron Strike Smashburgers
MidCity's on the east side. Are you thinking of Iron Strike?
Yes! Sorry. Midtown Beer Garden ... Midcity... I will edit!
Love Belizean
Nong's Khao Man Gai, Ramen Ryoma, and SunRice
Stretch the noodle- great mom and pop handmade Chinese noodles. Haven’t been in a while but the portions used to be enormous.
Were they purchased and reopened? Last I heard it was closed, but was for sale.
Yup, new owners and they're now at the new pod on fifth that replaced the old pod on fifth. They did sell, not sure to who but it was sometime late last year. Still pretty good but different than before.
Within the week [Kim Jong Grillin](https://www.reddit.com/r/Portland/comments/1ad70px/update_food_cart_kim_jong_grillin_will_move_to/).
Yesss! Glad to hear they're coming back. I used to eat there when they were at pine Street.
Virginia's Cafe.
Their T-bam! sammich is amazing, basically a turkey club, they also have terrific fries
Duck House
I love Luc Lac, Raisin' Canes and Addy's Sandwich Bar.

Taylor Street Kitchen, Stretch the Noodle, Thai Peacock.
+1 on Taylor Street Kitchen! I had a delicious sandwich (the tofu one) from there and the bread was so good.
More love for Taylor Street!
I love a cheesesteak from [The Block](https://www.theblockpdx.com/) in Pioneer Square
Cuon and Whole Bowl were my go-tos when I worked downtown.
Cuon is the best!
Whole bowl always had a line out the door, interested to see if that's changed. There used to be a really good south American cart that had similar food but with fresh grilled chicken, I'll have to try to remember the name.
Yes, they’re very popular because the food is GOOD! Line moves pretty fast, thankfully.
I go to whole bowl weekly and there is never more than two people in line. Goes quickly.
Amazing!
Seconding Cuon!
Elephant’s Deli is my fave
They have gotten pretty expensive after Covid. Most of their pre packaged food is mediocre to me
Woof, they were expensive before Covid too
Yeah agree they have been bougie. Just more for what you pay for imo
I like La Jarocha but one time I tried to go at noon on a Saturday and they were closed despite their hours saying open. The food hall with the smash burger place nearby is good too.
La Jarocha opened a food cart on 5th where the smash burger place is! Sometimes when the restaurant is closed the cart is still open
Won’t be long until Pleasure Burger is open!
Xin Ding dumpling house is a bit of a hike from Pioneer Square but it’s along the Red/Blue lines at Skidmore. I can’t speak to their lunch specials but their soup dumplings are amazing.
Also Angelina’s Gyros
Rosales food cart, Tanaka, Toki, Bakers Mark, Kafka food cart
I like Angelina's for fresh & yummy greek food, and BAE's Chicken just a block away from there. Their honey butter chicken sandwich ($13) is to die for.
These both look amazing and thanks for the sandwich rec!
Fuller's! I actually went downtown to meet a friend for lunch there. I'd second stretch the noodle, but order ahead.
Love this place!
Gandhi's is within walking distance. Pick 2 entrees to go with rice and naan.
I'm so glad they're still around. I love most of their dishes but also the cilantro sauce on everything.
One of my go-to places. Love it. However, last time I was there, they seemed to be a bit discombobulated, and the owner - the older guy who started the place - wasn't around. And there were new pictures of him by the register. I really hope he's ok. Don't suppose anyone knows?
I haven’t lived downtown in six years, but I loved: Thai Chili Jam, Loving Hut (vegan), Virginia Cafe, Mayas Taqueria, Gildas
Rabbits cafe is so freaking good.
I would add recommendations for two carts: El Pilon and Frida's Kitchen. But note that the menu on the Frida's Kitchen website is not at all the same as the one on the cart front, so you'll probably need to order at the cart.
Break bread
I haven't been since they reopened recently - hopefully they live up to their previous standards!
Charlie's deli
Jojo's!
Omg how did I forget this!
Those soy curls at Rabbits Cafe make me want to go into the office and I'm not a vegetarian.
Rabbits is definitely on my list!!! Glad they're still open.
LucLac has been around since before Covid and still alive and well. Definitely recommend!
It's the hottest restaurant in Oregon. I promise you'll be in a huge line with all the other trendy millennial tourists

Have you ever seen the line of office workers waiting in line for this restaurant on the weekdays?
Their food is amazing don't get me wrong. While they do have a reputation for being the trendiest greatest restaurant in Oregon history i just don't appreciate how everything the time I go there they're playing music so loud that I have to scream to talk to my friend
Mayas on 10th and Ramen Ryoma on 11th
Mayas Taqueria! Yep
A taste of Greek food truck on 2nd near Oak is my absolute favorite food downtown!
I'm amazed they're still there! I think this is the place that had a cheap but extremely tasty lentil soup, tasted like it was from scratch.
If you want Mexican food, La Casita is the best downtown has to offer. It’s a cart on 5th Ave at PSU.
I work in the same area. My go-tos: Cuon - Beef Pho, Bun w/ grilled shrimp and lemongrass pork, lemongrass spring rolls Khao San - sit-down Thai Khob Kuhn - food pod Thai Nong's - if I need some comfort food Potbelly - on Thursdays you get double points that will get you a free sandwich quicker. House of Ramen and Turkey Place
I'm a regular at both of those places. House of Ramen is, in my opinion, deeply underrated.
The name Turkey Place is pretty hilarious.
It's accurate though! They roast their own turkey, and it's pretty tasty. Lots of other sandwiches too, as well as some asian fusion fare, but that's their calling card.
Their sandwiches and wraps are amazing! Also their curry is very good. But I love, love love TP’s spicy ramen so much House of Ramen - I like the #9 tonkatsu with chashu pork
I’m a #10 Hakata with chasu and an extra egg.
Khao Niew, Sumo Sushi, Rabbits Cafe, Whole Bowl, Addy’s, Luc Lac
Luc Lac is the hottest restaurant in Oregon. I promise you'll be in a huge line with all the other trendy millennial tourists
At lunchtime you can always walk right in.
Lucky you, I've never had that luck
LucLac but i heard it’s the hottest restaurant in oregon. You’ll probably be in a huge line with all the other trendy millennial tourist. On a side note i miss mi mero mole deeply.
Lmao
Khao San Thai street food, Luc Lac Vietnamese, Baker's Mark (for the Dutch crunch sandwiches)
I haven't had Dutch crunch bread in years, it was one of my favorite things from a sandwich place I used to eat at in college. Thanks for the rec!
Luc Lac is the hottest restaurant in Oregon. I promise you'll be in a huge line with all the other trendy millennial tourists

Uh, none of those is downtown.
