The equipment list is meaningless. How does it sound?

Glad_Alfalfa_9037

I have a private SoundCloud link, drops on August 2nd.

fulvio_cuppi

Why so many downvotes? Congrats for finishing your album!

josephallenkeys

SoundCloud, for one. How can "how does it sound?" be answered through SoundCloud!?

_cgaddis_

Dunno why you got a downvote - SC does legitimately sound terrible… unless it’s changed recently?

DrAgonit3

It has only gone down in quality for the past decade, no way they'd bump up the quality at this point lol.

Spare-Resolution-984

No offense but nobody can give you any feedback if you only drop the names of the gear without providing audio files. This can sound professional or amateurish depending on how you used those tools.

Glad_Alfalfa_9037

Can find the link on the thread

PortugueseWalrus

Are you asking us to roast your chain?

Glad_Alfalfa_9037

If needed be, so I can improve,.. then yes

yaboidomby

Don’t you think it would’ve been more helpful to ask for peoples thoughts as you were in the mixing stage? It’s a bit counterintuitive to have people tell you their thoughts after you’ve gone to the trouble of mastering the tracks lol.

Glad_Alfalfa_9037

I mean,…this is very true!! It just always sounded good to me, sounded good to my audience and especially live. I just NOW was hoping a fellow professional engineer/musician could guide me, so if anything I can just improve better. This is my 5th album. My whole career was built off self taught experimentations.

sw212st

This might sound facetious but what are you here. This post is really weird. “ I’ve finished my album, I used these plugins and it’s on soundcloud” …. “Oh”

ItsMetabtw

I’ve never been a huge fan of that mic on vocals. It’s a bit thin and harsh sounding to my ears, with a pop filter. If you get right on the capsule for the proximity effect it could work, but leave you with a ton of editing for plosives and sibilance. I’d save for an AKG C414 XLii if you want a mic with presence but without the harshness. 1081 makes me think it’s a plugin chain then? That or Heritage Audio? Nothing wrong with what you’re going for here. I use a real 1073>1176>LA2A chain all the time on vocals. It’s tried and true and just works on basically everything. I personally think 2A on limit mode is pretty aggressive after an 1176, since the 76 is already feeding a compressed signal to it, but if it give you the sound you’re going for, then that’s fine too

Glad_Alfalfa_9037

For tracks I can tell I’ll do a lot of harshness I use the roll off switch and pad

josephallenkeys

This is meaninglessly ambiguous.

Nutella_on_toast85

Are these plugins or hardware?

Glad_Alfalfa_9037

Emulation Plugins

Nutella_on_toast85

That's important to note man but these days they are so close. Mind sharing what interface and plugin manufacturers u used?

Glad_Alfalfa_9037

Presonus AudeoBox iTwo and the IK Multimedia MixBox plugin

Nutella_on_toast85

Ah ok yeah so plugin chain is a well know analogue classic for pop/r&b and you can get most of the way there digitally. I think it's a good starting point, keep on chugging 💪

Glad_Alfalfa_9037

True, I was kinda intending on emulating like a hardware take on it.

cosmicguss

Mmmmm, it sounds ok, not great. Mix could be improved significantly. Also your imaging is weird, all of the songs are off-center/louder in the left channel. It’s distracting. Are you using a stereo spreader or some sort of imaging plugin on the whole mix?

Glad_Alfalfa_9037

You know what’s wild, I am. The basic logic “stereo spread”

cosmicguss

Yeah, that’s no good and probably taking away a lot of the weight and focus of your mix. I’m not a huge fan of plugin stereo spreaders because they always sound really phase-ey and unnatural. But if you’re using it for vocal width or something I’d probably just put it on an aux send and send some of your vocal or other things you want widened to it, rather than putting it on your whole mix.

Glad_Alfalfa_9037

That’s makes amazing sense!
