It’s a [bore irrigated vineyard](https://alicespringsnews.com.au/2018/03/16/federal-study-casts-light-on-future-source-of-town-water). Not sure why it’s there, but it is. About 60ha. For those interested in the water allocation: NT Portion 1476 - Undoolya Rocky Hill Agricultural Block

graytheboring

I'd be bored in the middle of bumfuck nowhere as well.

lovesahedge

This is just a short drive out of Alice Springs, so not as bumfuck nowhere as all that. If OP looks around a bit more they'll see things like this all across the NT where fruit farms have operated for decades. There's also Palm Valley out west which shows another great pop of green in an otherwise red landscape.

jessewhufc

Used to love going camping out there when I lived in Alice. Alice is such an amazing place once you get used to it. Unfortunately, crime drove us away. Telephina Gorge was always one of my favorite places.

RealCommercial9788

That ‘see nearby restaurants’ prompt has to be a joke too

iced_maggot

So bored you’d start irrigating the desert though?

Wobbly_Bob12

There used to be a vineyard and orange orchard in Wiluna, WA until about 20 years ago

LordGolec

What you have there is a healthy crop of nunya.

Reddmann1991

Man haven’t had some nunya in yonks 🤤

2littleducks

Nunya with updoc, delicious!

campbellsimpson

What's, uh, going on today fellas

No-Albatross5152

Nunya business!

Reddmann1991

You weren’t supposed to say it!

No-Albatross5152

Oops sorry

GiantBlackSquid

Dont-rush-2xfils

It’s Snu

CcryMeARiver

Someone squandering precious artesian bore water on cashcrops.

Wankeritis

Pasteurial and mining companies are draining the great artisanal basin for their cashcrops without any oversight by the government while the traditional owners watch their country die around them and cries fall on intentionally deaf ears. Not surprising it’s happening in the NT also.

lovesahedge

It's definitely happening in the NT, but there has been some great research done because of the use of this aquifer. It's set to be the source of town water once the current one hits a certain level, so there's an invested eye on how it's used.

Boss_Cocky

Stick to what you know

strayac

Name checks out

We are. Duh Management.

lovesahedge

There's a lot of history around fruit farming in the NT, and it was found pretty early on that some fruit thrives out here when you can irrigate it. Grapes, citrus, melons, mangoes, and especially dates have all been part of Central Australia's farming past. Hale is only a short drive out of Alice Springs, which is actually a larger town than you probably imagine.

deathmetalmedic

>Hale is only a short drive out of Alice Springs, which is actually a larger town than you probably imagine. TIL people couldn't imagine a town the size of Traralgon, Mt Gambier, Armidale or Devonport.

WTF-BOOM

desert* piqued*

christonabike_

My interest definitely peaks at the mention of dessert.

kiersto0906

especially if it was a dessert as big as the simpson desert

scoldog

[As long as you don't get stranded in it](https://pbfcomics.com/comics/nunez/)

kiersto0906

shockingly topical comic

Flimsy-Ad-8972

I thought the green stuff was some sort of dessert lol. But yeah sorry couldn’t sleep last night which is how I ended up looking around Australia on google.

LeClassyGent

earthquank

It's The Green Place, home of the Many Mother's.

Is that a meteorite crater?

2littleducks

Centre pivot automated circular water irrigation (sprinkler) system. https://www.google.com/maps/place/23%C2%B051'45.5%22S+134%C2%B005'16.2%22E/@-23.8710687,134.0969757,776m/data=!3m1!1e3!4m4!3m3!8m2!3d-23.8626407!4d134.087824?entry=ttu

serpentechnoir

I'm talking about to the right in the first image. Looks like a depression a few kms wide

happy-little-atheist

You meant the other right.

2littleducks

Couple of large circular objects in this view, the one you mention and another north-east of it, can't find any information about craters, caldera's, don't know? https://www.google.com/maps/place/23%C2%B051'45.5%22S+134%C2%B005'16.2%22E/@-23.8674582,134.0376667,49644m/data=!3m1!1e3!4m4!3m3!8m2!3d-23.8626389!4d134.0878333?entry=ttu

serpentechnoir

Ahh yeah. Also the one I mentioned has a smaller circular pattern inside to the right.

whatanerdiam

Hale Berrys.

ringo5150

Could it be this family's hay growing operation? Hay is worth bigger money here than anywhere else in Aus so the economics must stack up. [link to article](https://bigrigs.com.au/2023/07/25/outback-truckies-put-it-all-on-the-line/)

Flimsy-Ad-8972

It does look like hay. Article is a good read too.

theman-dalorian

*Inhale

G1LDawg

It is planted in rows about 2.5 m apart and looks like either drip irrigation or a trellis. I am curious

6tPTrxYAHwnH9KDv

Desserts are definitely at the peak of my interests. Or something. English is not my native language.

Flimsy-Ad-8972

After reading my original post I am starting to think it may not be mine either lol

jessewhufc

If you’re from the US, you’d be extra weirded out to find that there’s also a lot of Americans living not far from there …keep searching the map.

Flimsy-Ad-8972

Where are they living ?

jessewhufc

Have to do your research :) But it’s not far and the location has been mentioned in the comments already.

Flimsy-Ad-8972

Yeah I don’t care that much lol

jessewhufc

lol, there’s a lot of Americans nearby there in Alice Springs

jessewhufc

This demography map will help since you’re bored [demography map](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/American_Australians#/media/File%3AAustralian_Census_2011_demographic_map_-_Australia_by_SLA_-_BCP_field_1888_United_States_of_America_Total.svg)

Rodgerexplosion

See that crop circle?? That’s from central pivot irrigation..

Available-Maize5837

Potatoes are often grown in circles. Found that very handy as a truck driver trying to find a farm. Google maps and look for the circle crops.

karatekid430

It’s ‘piqued’ my interest, by god too much lead in the pipes

chocolatejuleyjules

And "desert". 😂

Flimsy-Ad-8972

High quality H2O

mcncl

Probably hemp

BarryKobama

Probably next land release of 250m2 blocks, starting at $499k

WestAvocado3518

Australia is HUGE, GPS coordinate would be a good place to start

Quirky-Parsnip-Soup

(-23.8626407, 134.0878240) Google maps finds Hale Australia with ease

Saltinas

It's just south east of Alice Springs

Ok-Lawyer6334

Weed

TwinTTowers

Probably something like watermelons. Those buggers will grow anywhere.

HazmatChicken

PlasticMansGlasses

Lobster-Lotion

Bore water? Don't you mean *coke*

Reasonable_Point6291

Mary jane

YeahYeahButNah

Holy shit. If Australia itself was bumfuck nowhere, this would still be in the middle of bumfuck nowhere. Hale doesn't even show up on Google maps when you type it, you have to zoom out to the entirety of aus and click search here

GuessTraining

Walter White?

Joehax00

[Hale also has some pretty interesting geographical formations (๑¯◡¯๑) (NSFW?)](https://i.imgur.com/xmtuaOe.jpeg)

Beautiful_Cloud_8888

Reddit is over everyone: from Google Gemini: Determining the largest agricultural crop in Hale, Northern Territory (NT), Australia is difficult without specific data on crop yields in the region. However, Hale River Holdings, a prominent agricultural company in the area, focuses on cattle properties and mixed cropping. This suggests that cattle and potentially common crops like wheat or barley could be significant agricultural products in Hale, NT. For a more definitive answer, consider contacting the Northern Territory Department of Industry, Farming and Fisheries or searching for recent agricultural data on Hale, NT.

Bees1889

Except the top upvoted answer on Reddit is actually correct compared to just AI waffle, and wheat and barley are not commonly grown (or present at all maybe??) in the NT

lovesahedge

Wheat and barley would not be good crops in Central Australia, this trend of asking chatgpt and posting whatever it says as obvious fact is ridiculous
