Quokkas. They have no natural predators in their native habitat, so they donāt hesitate to run up to anyone or run away. And their faces always look like theyāre smiling š„°
Iām not sure where you heard they have no natural predators because they have a tendency to yeet their own babies out of their pouches as a sacrifice to distract predators and get away.
Edited to add- mainland quokkas have predators (dingoes, birds of prey) but the population of quokkas that live on Rottnest Island are the carefree ones.
sharks mentioned lets fucking gooo (but on a real note whale sharks are actually very nice to swim with and lemon sharks ARE super friendly! they even have favourite divers :3)
It's best to chum the area then jump in to swim with the sharks that show up. They're very grateful that you've provided them dinner and will want to demonstrate that gratitude.
Manatees (my special interest) they have no predators so they never really developed the capability for aggression! But donāt take advantage of their friendliness, itās a crime to touch them, feed them, or give them water. Because then they learn humans = good, which draws them towards humans. This makes them go up towards boats, which is one of the main ways they die.
Cats. They're very direct with their body language and what they're cinfortable with, and as long as you don't push past their boundaries, they're super friendly.
Yeah I wouldnāt have said so before, but when I visited Istanbul, I got to see just how friendly cats can be with strangers when they donāt fear them.
Iād have a menagerie if I lived there, so many sweet animals.
Edit: I have a cat, and had this cat before my trip so I know you can get close with them, but I didnāt expect them to be so friendly with strangers.
Here in Nederland its like 50/50. So many cats will go right up to you and be so sweet! They're not stray either, but pets roaming around š some just don't want to be bothered, and then every so often one is scared.
I went to Istanbul in 2013 and did not know about the cats there. And I made so many friends just sitting on my lap and being friendly it was one of the best things about the trip.
My cat used to kill stuff and now he just stares at the stuff heās supposed to killš. To be fair any animal that got caught by my cat was probably sick already bcs my cat is NOT good at itš
That doesn't make them any less friendly. It's a natural instinct and they shouldn't lose 'friendly points' over something they're bred to do (e.g farm cats hunting mice or rabbits to protect crops and grain).
But cats are one of the only animals who will hunt just for fun even if they're not hungry. Sometimes they don't even eat what they kill. And even if it is a natural instinct it still makes them lose friendly points, I mean if someone was born with a natural instinct to kill people it would definitely make them lose friendly points.
But then by that logic, dolphins shouldn't be considered friendly either because they r@pe each other and abuse pufferfish to get high.
We can't really apply human logic and emotion towards animals in that sense, because it's different for them.
Cats don't necessarily hunt just for the sake of it. There's a few different reasons including: showing other cats that this territory is owned already, practising in order to improve their skills, doing their job (such as a barn cat or farm cat) and yes, to keep themselves stimulated. However, it is necessary for them to hunt in order to keep their hunting skills at a good level, it's up to the owners though to provide a method that doesn't involve harming wild animals, but that doesn't mean the cats aren't friendly, they're just doing what is part of their survival instincts.
I'm not a cat fan nor hater. They can be smarter than I gave them credit for when younger though. Most just don't care much about anything they aren't into at any given moment. I think dogs are more flexible in communicating with us.
Cats can be just as devoted as a dog though. I'm not sure if I'd say they are equal in intelligence really, but when you see a cat teach itself to use and flush the toilet, and use door knobs properly, it's a close race.
Those cat thumbs might just need a little more evolution for the win.
So far I've never met an angry or mean cat. Even the street cats I've met for the first time seem to be extremely friendly and let me give them belly rubs.
Dogs are friendly too, but I personally find them too annoying and they don't respect boundaries sometimes so that makes them less friendly to me.
You never met "The Battle-Cat". If you did, you likely dripped a little blood . It did "Taz" the Tasmanian Devil on somebody's arm or leg during *most* of it's unannounced appearances from the shadows.
I forget what it's real name was. One of the most unpredictably mean animals that ever lived. It lived just to attack people at the end of a toy... then watching tv quietly ... or attacking adults and children outside. They had to lock it away for visitor safety once it had a few pounds on it.
I was also attacked by a band of wild alley cats...in an industrial ghetto's alley too, lol. The belief they won't stray and form a pack *and* be aggressive is dead wrong. Very unusual maybe, but dead wrong.
I think maybe we can be the targets of these abandond factory cat "prides" that break off in small groups and act like that until they learn how to deal with being closer to more of us way way more often than *maybe* a bored security guard every once in while, while in their new territories.
I'm lucky I had jeans and high boots on because two of about a ten, maybe more, went after my ankles. Weeks later, they pressed on the friend I was visiting as they put the garbage out back but scattered at the first kick. They had likely learned a thing or two about shoes by then I think. They mostly looked pretty young. No crazy cat hoarders around there or anything.
Very true! I was on a nature walk as a kid and we saw one just chilling in a little puddle beside a pond. We all were intrigued and went right up to it but were told not to touch it because it would be mean. But the teacher basically just took a minute to tell us how chill they are and that they won't run from us, but it doesn't mean they aren't scared. They've just got the "freeze" instinct with humans.
For me, one somehow got all the way from the lake in our backyard to the area with bushes in the front. It somehow got into a water pipe and used it to get around!
It seemed mostly curious about child me and my mom.
We were standing next to each other (since we had been taking a walk before), and the crawdad seemed to realize we were two different people.
I think it was curious since it might have never seen humans up close before.š¤
There's definitely a few animals out there where people need to be educated about because they become too friendly when exposed to nice people for too long
Technically a fish, but the puffer fish is so cute and friendly! Iāve been to a house where they had one and it followed you around the tank (this was a huge 800(?) gallon tank in the middle of the room) and it would do little squirts of water when the top was open.
Note: the fish and its friends are well taken care of. Dude is rich AF (owning a condo in a fancy hotel in Boston) and has special fish people caring for the tank regularly.
Rats.
I'm not talking about street rats. Too wild. I'm not talking about pet store rats either. They've likely been mistreated and might be aggressive. Feeder rats are very inbred and have a lot of issues. I actually bought a feeder rat as a pet when I was little and it died in less than 3 months.
You should get them from a reputable breeder. I did a few years ago and still have Mr Pinkie. He likes to gnaw on my pinkie fingers.
Rats are extremely sweet and intelligent. I also have a dog and she likes to walk around with Mr Pinkie on her back. They play and are very gentle with each other.
I had rats as a kid and they were awesome. It makes me sad that they are so short-lived and almost every single one of mine ended up with tumors. Mostly benign, but those can get quite large.
i think cats and rats are! that may just be my bias with my 2 pets rats and my cat tho lol
my rats (both over a year old, and dumbos) love hanging outside of their cage with me and theyre really easy to read so it doesnt take much effort to tell if theyre upset, etc.
my cat (abt 1 year old, diluted calico) is a very sweet girl too, when i lay with her around the house she gives my whole face a tongue bath that lasts atleast 10 minutes (gross but i see the intention so it warms my heart alot more than grosses me out) and she'll only do that with me out of everyone in my house. both of my cats (the other is a sassy 4 year old tuxedo cat) check on me atleast once a day to headbutt me and lick me a bunch, i like to think its their way of showing they care alot about me :)
so sorry for the long reply! i love talking about my pets :]
"Man's best freind".. a matching of energies.
Sic em Togo....
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Togo_(dog)
Baltor & Fox too. Then there is Barry, Donnchadh, Soter, Saurr, Peritas, Guinefort.
There is no other animal that been by peoples sides through thick and thin over the centuries.
It'd definitely be an animal that's been domesticated/used to human presence (this can depend greatly on location as well), as most wild animals are skittish and/or fierce around people.
There are also many factors that contribute to how friendly an individual animal is to humans, such as how often/early they were exposed to humans, whether they've been harmed/mistreated/abused, personality, how you approach them/treat them etc.
Out of personal experience, I'd say the dog (though there are a lot of other correct answers to this question) as they generally are affectionate and sociable around people unless reinforced otherwise.
Some humans and chill and will stupidly approach literally any animal š other humans are terrifying. So yup I think you're right that it's both a right and wrong answer.
Pigs? probably? I haven't really hung around animals because I'm a bit scared of them based on size, it just overwhelms me for some reason, but I've seen many videos of animals. Pigs seem friendliest. Cows are probably a close second, they can get zoomies by the way.
yes but certainly not friendly. thats just a ridiculous thing to suggest. theyre the most skittish animal ive ever seen (although i am from the uk so we dont have much variety)
yeah im from the uk too, I've never seen one in the wild but I've seen pictures and based off of articles and minecraft they don't like people very muchĀ
Understandable! I was in a forest and saw a mother fox with babies. She let me go right up to the babies! They were being so adorable and playful. I didn't touch them ofc. But please anyone reading this NEVER do so without proper training. I have many years of wilderness survival classes, scouts training, etc. Even with all the training it is still a potential risk.
500 people die from hippo attacks every year, making them twice as deadly as lions. In fact statistically they're the deadliest land animal in the world (excluding humans). They're big and cute but can move shockingly fast (48km/h) and are fiercely protective of their young, water, and territory. Petting a wild hippo would likely be your death (which is unfortunate because I also think they're super cute. I have a poster of one in my room)
Iām not well versed in all the animals of the world, but my guess would be either dogs or some kind of sea creature, maybe certain types of sharks or whales.
one of the most friendly-looking as well as absolutely adorable is the stoat. I love them so much. however, these things hunt in the wild eating 20% of their body weight every day and can kill creatures up to 5-6 times their size and weight by grabbing the backs of their necks. not so friendly but they cute so its okay
Lol @ dogs when practically everyone I know has gotten a scar and one had to get emergency serious from a bite.
But that being said, every one has their own temperament.
I think this is the wrong question. Itās kind of like asking which race is friendliest. Animals, like people, have individual personalities. A dog is not necessarily friendly or mean as a species, rather they should be evaluated as individuals, just like we do with people.
Now I would say non human animals and insects, in terms of āmeannessā, I usually give them the benefit of the doubt, because what we perceive as them being āmeanā or acting in some way which harms us, is usually done out of necessity or self defense, not for pleasure. Humans on the other hand often hurt other people and animals not out of necessity or survival, just for fun/pleasure. Humans also have the cognition and awareness to understand the suffering we inflict, while most animals do not (some likely do).
Dogs? I never had pets (as my mom got traumatized after her dog died). As a child (I was 3/4) a family friend would have a purebred Doberman who was scary as heck. Whenever we'd visit (ringing the bell) the beast would start strutting and clawing the door. Then I'd show up and he'd jump on top of me (everyone was scared, but cute Camba would lick me over and over).
I also had a thing for tadpoles at 6/7 and would watch them over and over in a little pond by my school. God, how didn't I realize I was in the spectrum until my 30's!
Then however, from around 7 to 13 I was scared shitless of dogs. I demanded dog owners to lock their animals whenever I was around. Up until when at, around 12/13, best friend, Freddy, set his Black Labrador lose in the kitchen and had me face her. She was the loveliest, friendliest little critter ever.
Now I love dogs, never owned any but can approach them. Maybe they're great pets for people in the spectrum, as they will always come back to you as their "master". Cats on the other hand, seem to be way less forgiving and maybe the interaction could be different.
Irish wolfhounds. Just lazy shaggy big bois! Every time I was fortunate enough to meet one they were so cuddly and friendly aswell. I can say with certainty they are my favourite dog breed
I guess they are, cats really like being around people despite what the common sense says, specially their owners, but when theyāre in a comfortable environment they do ask strangers to pet them, or may come to you if you just pspspsps them
Oh yes I understand and agree! My favorite animal is guinea pigs... but even though guinea pigs and bunnies can be so affectionate towards humans they're prey animals and scared of other animals (and often scared of humans too). Capybaras can just be casually chilling there with a bird on their back and an alligator 10 metres away.
Sperm whales! The fact that they're giant and could possibly do so much damage to anything that swims in the area but don't, make them very friendly at least to me.

I love the word yeet. Its never not funny.
Donāt forget about āyoinkā. The opposite of yeet and just as fast. :)
They do not yeet their babies as a sacrifice.
Oh my gosh they're so adorable!!
I had to scroll wayyyy too far to see my favorite one!!
I was going to say this one. they are called the happiest animals too
I feel like it has to be manatees! Theyāre so chill!!

Iāll check it out, thanks for the rec.
Mhm. My cat Mr. Jingles always cuddles me when I'm sad or hears me crying. So sweet <3
I mean if you ignore that they are predators and kill any small animal that gets in front if them then maybe.

Maybe. Depends on the breed and how familiar and comfortable they are with you yeah. Iād say cats or dogs but really it depends on the kind.

Elephants, believe it or not
manatees, they were born without aggression and can't harm other animals :,)
A crawfish with an easy-to-access water supply. They're actually pretty chill.

Capybara, no doubt
I love dogs sooo much!
they are not freindly

Bumblebees
Chickens!! And capybaras, manatees, guinea pigs if you arenāt a terrible owner. And goats too!
ever heard of a quokka? they have almost zero fear of humans and are very rarely agressive. they're like excited capybaras. i love them
Axolotls!! My girls swim to the front of the tank to say hi all the time
Otters!! I Otters make me so happy! We will not share this piece of information with my rat terrier, however.
You, the current reader of this comment!
Elephants
You have to exclude their musth cycle for this to apply. Young adolescent elephants have an aggression phase.
i did not know that
Snow leopards, never have I once heard of a snow leopard attack. They are just big cute cuddly kitties that deserve affection and appreciation. š
Based on my own personal experience (I work at a vet clinic) itās dogs. Especially the bigger ones. Theyāre usually big sweet teddy bears š„ŗ
Orangutans
Meerkats! They're so funny :>

Bonobos. They don't care about gender and do the deed just for relaxation purposes.
Everyone has cooler animals but honestly I think the humble dog is probably the friendliest simply because we bred them to be that way towards us. :)Ā

Dwarf japanese flying squirrels, they couldnt hut a damn thing look at their big eyes too

Lol @ dogs when practically everyone I know has gotten a scar and one had to get emergency serious from a bite. But that being said, every one has their own temperament.
Labrador
I one up you with labradoodles, they are also fluffy and cuddly as all heck
My Brussels Griffon, Andy!!!
Capybara. They befriend anything and everything
Capybaras!!!!!!
Horses
Chickadees seem pretty friendly.
I've heard that giant manta rays are super chill and curious when you encounter them in the wild
Horses
ladybirds
Quokka? I dunno. They just look affable.
Koala maybe
I'm going to say dogs, literally selective bred over generations to be friendly.
definitely not really friendly, but i love cats
Dog
chihuahua
dogs
Definitely dogs. Not the fun answer but as a human itās definitely dogs
Certain people. People are capable of incredible acts of kindness. No other animal will give a stranger their kidney.
Another vote for capybara :D
With or without human intervention?
CAPYBAPY
Cats

Argentine carpincho.
Irish wolfhounds. Just lazy shaggy big bois! Every time I was fortunate enough to meet one they were so cuddly and friendly aswell. I can say with certainty they are my favourite dog breed
Dogs
Golden retrievers, or just properly socialised dogs in general. We made them that way š
Cats, but I understand why people wouldnāt think the same
I used to think I was scared of cats but now that I've been around them more I love them! It definitely all just depends on the specific cat
I really love cats, Iād say they are my special interest and I love petting them when I go out
Awe how cute! I bet they're glad for the attention
I guess they are, cats really like being around people despite what the common sense says, specially their owners, but when theyāre in a comfortable environment they do ask strangers to pet them, or may come to you if you just pspspsps them
Even though theyāre not my favorite animal (That title would go to the almighty rabbit) I would have to say capybaras.
Oh yes I understand and agree! My favorite animal is guinea pigs... but even though guinea pigs and bunnies can be so affectionate towards humans they're prey animals and scared of other animals (and often scared of humans too). Capybaras can just be casually chilling there with a bird on their back and an alligator 10 metres away.
for me, definetely elephants for some reason
Dolphin
Dog
Capybaras, Dolphins, Sheep and Horses.
Sperm whales! The fact that they're giant and could possibly do so much damage to anything that swims in the area but don't, make them very friendly at least to me.
A dog or cat
Car
Dogs, 100%.
Butterfly š¦
i dont like butterflies theyre too scary giant bugs!!!!
Tortoise
Probably human babies
Human because other animals donāt have a sense of friendliness
Dogs followed by surgarglider, though surgargliders might be better described as codependent.
Well socialized dogs :)
