It means nothing. Could be literally anything. New/resold aircraft, government, private, test aircraft, ACMI company aircraft, not yet painted. Means nothing

ComprehendReading

But why did the pilot choose to buy a white playne?  Is he stupid?

zR0B3ry2VAiH

I legit had to double check that this was r/aviation, and not r/shittyaskflying after reading your comment.

Guysmiley777

This sub is well on its way to SAF levels of discourse.

I felt bad making the comment but I felt less bad making it as a reply and not a parent comment.

Adorable_Yard_8286

I wonder who is stupid if you think the pilot is the owner of the airplane? What ayrplayne color would you have chosen for an unmarked airfract? I'm not sure why you complain.. a white aircraft with no text or anything is the most gangsta shit you can ever buy. It's the equivalent of a grey ford crown victoria

Gilmere

Lots of good answers. But let me say on your thought, I would think there are VERY few "pilots" that would buy an aircraft of this size for themselves. Its most likely a fleet bird, and one being readied for a new paint job. Paint can add 100's if not 1000's of pounds to the overall weight, so they would rather take the old liveries off before a new one. And given smaller companies may have limited schedule capacity and resources to paint, it may be waiting on a list.

TheRealHellodude

Is there a lore reason?

Sol-Skye

As an aviation mechanic, I can safely say that this aircraft could be changing owners. Sometimes, airline companies would rent a leased aircraft as they would call it and be branded to their airlines afterwards. Usually these aircraft travel unbranded and full white to the destination where the airlines agreed upon, commonly at MRO companies. They would normally stay unbranded until an airline company chooses to rent them or buy them fully.

Enough_Bag_622

As a 737 pilot, I can safely say, it could be anything ;) but what you’re saying is one of many things that it could be

Geekenstein

Yeah, it’s the all black ones you have to watch out for.

MaxMadisonVi

So you think they’re usually just like "yeah, let’s paint some numbers and letters on this one, it looks cool" in the paint shop, but not for this one ?

unexpectedit3m

Pirates, obviously

RollerAddict

Nothing mean nothing. A big plane as this one are plain white only before painting or for high altitude cloud seeding (a.k.a Chemtrail planes)

Manateeeeeeeeeeee

Lmao you’re actually serious 💀

JollyGreenSlugg

Pffft, chemtrail planes have colour-changing tech to blend in with what's above them. Other than that, it's only the 'Crowned I' logo on the fin that identifies these Illuminati aircraft.

IAmWheelock

You see this in Europe often and can figure out what they are by the tail number. Most I’ve seen are short term wet leases to low cost airlines like TUI during holiday demand spikes. Probably don’t see the point of painting them for however long they’ll be in the fleet.

ugh168

Could be Danish Air Transport. I was on a plane that looked like this when Air France leased it.

[deleted]

Norwegian used some recently because of a few minor accidents in Oslo taking out a few of their planes temporarily

crazyhomie34

No tail number on this one.

StartersOrders

You can literally see the registration behind the rear door.

hatlad43

It's impossible to operate an aircraft without a tail number. Except for illegal operations, which would be a very unlikely case here.

crazyhomie34

Unless it's DOD. IDK I can't see the tail number on the tail from this clip.

BenjaminKohl

Well considering this appears to be Hong Kong I’d say that’s unlikely

DavidPuddy19

That’s a DOJ bird used for prisoner transport. Callsign is Justice. Edit: Apologies to all for bad info. The winglet looked like that of a United bird so I assumed it was domestic, didn’t pay much attention to terminal. Commence the downvotes

Few-Froyo812

This is not a DoJ bird. The DoJ has two active 737s (N738A, N279AD) both of which have a blue pinstripe and a US flag on the tail. This is a video of a 738. The DoJ just got a 738 delivered at the beginning of the year (N28252) however it’s been in OKC for the last month and GYR for a few years before that.  This video was taken at Bangkok, BKK (you can see the distinctive terminal in the background). As u/taYetlyodDL points out this is most likely LY-TFS since it’s flow to BKK several times over the last week.

DosEquisVirus

No. No, the river didn't get this guy. He's loose. If you can't find him dead someplace, he's running, folks. We got a fugitive.

GE90man

That looks like Bangkok. Highly, highly doubt a DOJ bird is operating a 737 in Bangkok.

itsgreybush

The US operates black sites in Thailand

mck1117

not with a DOJ 737 they don’t

itsgreybush

Could have landed for fuel bro who knows. I am sure Suva is not its home base of ops.

BelethorsGeneralShit

Nearly a thousand upvotes for a completely incorrect answer. The justice department isn't flying a 738 to Bangkok. It's most likely a short term lease and bounces around from airline to airline.

DavidPuddy19

I’ve edited post, apologized for incorrect intel, assumed it was domestic. If you’re truly that concerned about the amount of upvotes for an incorrect post, I suggest you get a real hobby

OzarkHiker1977

I never road on one that big...I feel cheated

DavidPuddy19

I found the flight attendant’s service to be lacking and we didn’t even get peanuts. 1/5 stars. Would not recommend that airline.

Even_Kiwi_1166

Finally we found an airline service worse than spirit airlines service

cindachallenger

Flair The only count you can do for that airline is how many bounces they get on the runway before touchdown My record is 12

OzarkHiker1977

hehehe

OzarkHiker1977

Yes... sorry sometimes I'm slow like a slug through salt...

moomooraincloud

shadowtheimpure

Planes that big are usually only used for large scale prisoner transfers. Doing otherwise would be prohibitively expensive to the Department. An example would be say the state of Washington has 100 federal prisoners scheduled to transfer to facilities in Texas and the surrounding states. This plane (or others like it) would be used to facilitate that transfer. They would land in Texas and then be bussed to their final destinations.

Raise-Emotional

Yes, look up the federal transfer center in Oklahoma City

It’s way newer though. I don’t think that’s the one

DavidPuddy19

I’ve seen a newer DOJ 73 with winglets. However, it seems like this is international so not DOJ. Apologies for the wrong info folks

taYetlyodDL

Love how yanks think everything has to be American related. This plane is aircraft is actually LY-TFS which is leased from the Lithuanian ACMI operator KlasJet to US Bangla Airlines

Spain has a King. UnderReyTed comment.

And a president.

No, they have a Prime Minister of Spain, who's officially called the President of the Government. But that term should be read as Chairman, not as head of state.

Amazon has had at least one aircraft that is all white except for the tail number.

WhiskeyMikeMike

amazon doesn’t own their planes (their flights are operated through a handful of different cargo airlines) so they don’t always get painted in the Amazon livery and it’s cheaper to leave a freighter bare white.

dodgerblue1212

Amazon started buying their own jets in 2021. They have a mix of leased and owned planes now.

WhiskeyMikeMike

True, but they still don’t have their own pilots right?

dodgerblue1212

Not yet. I think they were considering it but haven’t heard anything change there.

WetCoastCyph

I'm chuckling to myself, imaging they hire the same calibre of company pilots as they do company delivery drivers, and their dispatch getting photo of the plane at the wrong airport posted as 'delivery confirmation'. Or a message on final: 'A pilot needs help delivering your Amazon flight. Reply STOP to stop receiving texts for Amazon deliveries. I can't get access to the runway.'

WACS_On

Considering how Amazon treats all their other employees I don't see that working out too well

timmcal

Airlines that hire themselves out to other companies tend to have some “white tails” or planes with no livery. These are used as spares or for short term leases. Some companies don’t want to lease a plane for 3 months with someone else’s name on it and it’s too short of a lease to spend money on paint.

moomooraincloud

How can that be? Whoever owns it decided not to paint it. Seems pretty straightforward.

antariusz

But how can she slap?

StandardbenutzerX

There can be many reasons. There are many airlines which wet lease their aircraft to other airlines, for example if the airline can’t fulfill the demand during holiday season or has already planned to fly with wet leased aircraft to begin with. Sometimes these leased out aircraft have sticker or just the vertical stabilizer painted, but often they remain all white. Another reason, which isn’t as likely, is there always is a high demand for paint jobs and for a good time now there have been shortages in that field, before airlines let their aircraft stand around doing nothing they rather fly them without their livery.

_The_Fly

Where and when exactly was this? I could look it up for you

ca_metal

AFAIK all countries would only require a valid tail number, it's not really necessary to paint a plane.

Noah_fleshman

Yesterday I saw a plain white 737 at Schiphol (AMS). Looked it up on FlightRadar24 and it was from a private jet charter.

i10driver

Private plane, chartered plane, just purchased but not painted/liveried. All kinds of possibilities

trimarcoj

Clean your camera 😂

bouncypete

It could be many things but the most likely reason is that it was previously leased by an airline and that lease has ended. As part of the end of lease in the contact the airline usually has to have the aircraft repainted and basic white.

Difficult-Drive-4863

Poor thing, give it some clothes to put on.

DogsReadingBooks

They might just not have gotten around to painting it yet. Or it’s gonna get a new design. Did you catch the registration?

eternal-batman

Unfortunately my window was not clear so could not get complete look.

Was this at Las Vagas Harry Reid airport by chance?

Velocoraptor369

It depends on the registration of the Aircraft. A lot of US registered “White” tails are used by the US government to (CIA,DIA) to move cargo to friendly nations wink wink.

LostPilot517

The vast majority are just civilian operated on ACMI, or small carriers who haven't spent the money on paint yet, or new deliveries to these customers. Paint is expensive, especially on the flight controls surfaces, so it is usually combined with a heavy maintenance cycle check. Most aren't secretive, spook stuff. Most spook stuff anyway wants to blend in, and not stand out like a "white" tail does. I use to fly a lot of white tails.

Velocoraptor369

So Air America! Ok

samf9999

Yes. The regular alien transport from Area 51. They pick up UFO wreckage and remains. Saw it on X-Files documentary.

[deleted]

Janet Airlines maybe? Which is the airline that takes military soldiers to area 51.

gulliverian

Sometimes called a whitetail. Could be a wet-lease aircraft used to operate flights for different airlines, could be a new aircraft on it's way to be prepped and painted in the owners livery. There's almost certainly a registration number on it, but it's not visible in the video.

Icy_Huckleberry_8049

The owners choose the paint scheme. Lots of planes are all white, not just this one. Just like people can choose the color of their house or car, it can be done with planes, as well.
