Out of curiosity, why do people dislike the new reddit site? I find that the wider spacing between replies + wider kerning is better for my eyes so I use that more, personally.
The use of space is inefficient, the lack of CSS makes the subreddits more bland. Sports subs in particular are worse; they don’t have all the scoreboards and standings in the sidebar on new Reddit, and they lack the rich flairs of old Reddit.
I second that, I thought my connection was slow but the new page takes ages to load a page compared to old reddit
it looks good (last time i used it) but it's so laggy for what it is (loading plain text)
Slow as hell, both in load times and in interaction times. Accidental misclicks take you to weird places. Full with dark patterns if you try to use it while logged out.
Personally I don’t like how whenever I click a link and then hit the back button, it brings me back to the top of the page, and sometimes refreshes the page. So it takes a bit of time to scroll back down again and sometimes the next link I saw earlier is gone. It’s not a major thing but it’s pretty consistently irritating
quite a few subs are joining at this point, i have to wonder if eventually they might at least do \*something\*.. even just a bullshit statement would make our voices heard
Not useless. If many subs stay dark permanently, it would be a pain for them to try and find new mods for all of them. So the way I see it, our power is in numbers and something will happen if the strike goes long enough. I don’t think /u/spez will be CEO for much longer.
Exactly - anyone who wants to (and can) moderate a subreddit is probably already a moderator somewhere. There's gonna be few people out there who want to moderate subreddits \*without\* third party tools, and have the time to do it.
I'm on the Reddit site in a browser on a laptop right now. I use it this way sometimes.
But mostly I use it on my phone in a non-Reddit client app because the Reddit app is, really truly, horrible. It's so horrible and was so horrible for so long that it drove me away, and I won't be going back. If my client app goes away, I doubt I'll use Reddit on mobile.
It's their website which I've enjoyed for free for a while but it wouldn't take much for me to go away forever. I won't complain when I go, any more than when I left Fark and Slashdot and Hacker News and Disqus and Feedly and Google Reader. Services come and go.
>Reddit app is, really truly, horrible.
ive never used it and i can FEEL the jank from here!
i alread have issues with slowdowns and freezes on the website just because ive kept the tab open for awhile, currently its freezing for a second every 10th letter or so.
i cant imagine how much of a shitshow it must be on a phone that doesnt have a full fat modern cpu and 32gb of ram.
DO IT!
Reddit won't care if subs go dark and come back after just two days later. We need permanent protests like this one.
I doubt Reddit will be changing their minds though, so...
o7
and you mean Reddit can't change the subreddit back to visible by itself? you have no control here, you are only users. well-intentioned, but useless... sorry
maybe Reddit will remove this feature.
no? discord doesn't even have an api^[1], explicitly disallows 3rd party clients, isn't as easily searchable or as exportable as reddit, _and_ also doing dubious stuff with nft's, ai, etc.
if anything, move back to fora or a reddit alternative such as lemmy^[2], tildes, raddle, or kbin. something that has rss support
[1] for 3p apps, I'm aware it has an api
[2] i'm aware of the current controversy with lemmy, and i'm not explicitly recommending any of these specifically
of course, we must bow to the ultimate bad ui... the official Reddit app
I dont think its UI is bad but its UX is horrendous
What if this sub just redirected to new.reddit as the ultimate demonstration of a bad UI?
I actually prefer new reddit in terms of ui (except the app, God it's so bad), but holy fucking shit is it slow.

I stopped using it because it's really slow compared to the old reddit

Here I had thought it was my internet that made it so slow 😅

So to be clear things will come back if reddit listens to us (not bloody likely)
Correct. So the sub will be gone for good.
quite a few subs are joining at this point, i have to wonder if eventually they might at least do \*something\*.. even just a bullshit statement would make our voices heard
No, what will happen is that the Reddit admins will take over the subreddit and reinstate it, so it's completely useless.
Not useless. If many subs stay dark permanently, it would be a pain for them to try and find new mods for all of them. So the way I see it, our power is in numbers and something will happen if the strike goes long enough. I don’t think /u/spez will be CEO for much longer.

And someone who doesn't care will start a new version of it and everyone will just go there.
I am willing to bet that Reddit will forcibly replace mods and turn at least the big subs back on. Spez's ama alluded to a threat like this.
Reddit team acting like everything is fine glados style
With *The Cake*, decidedly, being a *lie*.

the real bad ui was reddit all along. glad to have you with the horde folks.
Permanently in "we don't know when or if we will be back" or in "we're not coming back no matter what"
The ultimate bad UI: No UI

Some could say reddit official is the winner of the bad UI battle...
Permanently? Not indefinitely?
Is restricting access to the sub technically bad ui?

My thoughts exactly. Reddit mods acting like they own the subs.. smh

Should we all move over to the discord? https://discord.com/invite/qh7KWmb

God no, anything but discord!
Some please just literally post the official app UI
Good news, that is now 50% of all postable content.
Permanently XD
