The Tigers are 10-3 against the Yankees in the postseason all-time.
I would like to formally address that we are not involved in their playoff fuckery.
Bro I don’t understand what the fuck is wrong with y’all? Why you gotta all suck and not just be awesome like we currently - and very consistently - are? Like it’s hard or something?
I'm furious that some barely over .500 poverty franchise in the AL West is going to get a playoff berth just because they're in a terrible division. Pathetic.
I mean, we’re 8.5 games out of first, have a negative run differential, are 0-14 vs Dodgers, Yankees, Orioles, and have used up our supply of White Sox manna.
The only fun part of the season involved some iffy meat.
Love how fans define our season 1/3 of the way through by the lowest point, ignore the high point and there is no middle ground, one where we’re one of 9 teams with a winning record and in the playoffs
The point is why we’re not terribly excited about that winning record.
Negative run differential and distant third place in the standings not exactly the stuff that sells hope.
Missing the playoffs with a 54% win percentage last season was the impetus for that comment. The gist was that leadership is aiming for a 54% win percentage every year to hopefully make the crapshoot that is the playoffs.
Embarrassing to have maybe the best #1-5 starters in baseball and Julio Rodriguez on your team and think, yeah a wild card is probably good enough. They should be one of the most active teams at the trade deadline. The window is right now!
Well the Rangers are currently playing without the majority of their team but most should be coming back around the deadline. We just have to stop the bleeding to have a chance.
I know, I'm just saying the top two teams in the AL West are suffering from lots of injuries right now. Unless the Mariners want to squeak in a playoff run just for this year the timing isn't that good.
it's weird cause you can acknowledge that the playoffs are very right place/right time and also make moves to beef a team up. even if .540 gets you there, you're still at a disadvantage against a .610 team
of course but why operate with the assumption of 'good enough'. The fans can see when there's not additional investment in the team - it's evident by the roster on the field and the payroll that's behind the Rockies. Optics matter!
The Phillies, Dodgers, and Braves are the only ones I can think of. I'd add the Brewers, but I'm not convinced because this team has struggled against the better teams all year long and has a losing record against teams above .500.
Dodgers and philles aren't good teams. they're great teams. Only 2 of the NL teams are bad. The reason there are 7 teams within 2 games of a playoff spot is because they're all good teams are playing each other.
Are more teams good or are more teams mediocre? I would argue that this was one of the goals of the expanded playoffs, teams don't have to try as hard to make the playoffs and can just hope to get lucky instead.
Expanded playoffs was a worse decision that even the ghost runner in extra innings. I think we're actually going to get a 81 win team for the last wild card spot.
There were 14 through the same date last year, and the season ended with 17 teams above .500.
2022 also had 14, however teams had played about 7-10 fewer games than this point this year.
You spelled Phillies and Guardians wrong. The Yankees look like dog turds without Juan 'im overrated AF' Soto, and the dodgers are just the West Yankees with a massive payroll and nothing to show for it.
Everyone can't stink. It's just that there are a lot of teams that's are similarly competitive and everyone is splitting series because there's a lot of balance. And a couple really good teams and a few really bad ones.
Plus there are some teams relying on or waiting for young players to come up. The pirates are making a push now due to the emergence of Jones, the arrivals of skenes and Gonzalez, and some injured players rounding into form (Cruz finally looking consisent after missing all of last year, Bednar looking healthy after pitching through injuries, etc).
It's about consistency for a lot of teams. Pittsburgh would be a few games over 500 if the bullpen, which was supposed to be their strength and is just now coming around, didn't uncharacteristically blow a bunch of games early on.
It's a long season and only a couple teams need to go on a decent run for a 10 game stretch to push over .500
"Competitive"
As the Dodgers, Phillies and Brewers are lapping their divisions, the Braves have WC1 practically locked up in June somehow and then the entirety of the rest of the NL barring like 4 teams are within 2 games of WC2.
The Braves have also played way fewer games than the Reds and Padres, which artificially makes them look further ahead. The 6 fewer games is doing some heavy lifting there, so they'd have 2-3 more losses with 6 more games played.
the rest of the NL is within playoff spots? That's called competitive.
most of the NL is good teams. Lmao, when the entire league is fighting for playoff spots, you call that competitive. Just because the dodgers and the phillies are so much better doesn't mean every other team is worse. There is a reason every team, besides 2, is within playoff range right now. Because every NL team is good.
So yes the NL is fucking competitive and that's a fact.
Have you ever wondered why that is? Because good teams don't always win when they play other good Teams. When you have good teams playing each other, you dont have temas that are 10 games above .500. Obviously, the Dodgers and the Phillies are the top NL dogs because they are 2 of the top 4 teams in all of baseball. There is a reason the entire NL pretty much it's within playoff range.
Division leaders have been separating themselves early. I don't think a team below .500 will make the playoffs. By the end of the season it usually balances out. some teams fall off or kick it into high gear after the all star break.
Would be kind of hilarious for a 79 win wildcard team to end up winning it all
Rocktober confirmed
Rockies would have to go 56-42 the rest of the season to get to 79 wins. If that happened we’d be scorching by Rockies standards
Just like 07
You're their second target
Are we the first or the third?
Third, Yankees are first
No the Yankees only lose to one team in the playoffs the last decade
The twins?
This would be the year. Win 110 games. Lose to the twins in the craziest ALDS
The Tigers are 10-3 against the Yankees in the postseason all-time. I would like to formally address that we are not involved in their playoff fuckery.
Even though we still haven’t won it all in my lifetime, it has been a delight to see the Tigers stick it to the Yankees when it matters most.
I'm shocked they've only played 13 games all time in the post season.
Things you’d love to see
But we have Gavin stone, so what does that mean
We're all getting stoned in Denver win or lose
*sigh* fine, if you insist.
Pirates Vs Tigers would be a dream come true
We just retired Leyland's number. It would be a HELL of a double wildcard post season for the tigers to play the pirates.
After the Diamondbacks last year, anything is possible!
I’d rout for Cutch.
Someone is going to get hot and get to 85 wins in both leagues. It's really hard to keep up the mid off
In 2007 it happened. 90 win dbacks had a negative run differential but also the best w-l record in the NL.
Tigers: So, you’re saying there’s a chance?
As far as 4th place teams the the Tigers and oddly the A's are only 10 back. That's do able, well maybe not for the A's
The 2006 Cardinals have entered the chat
I’m still not over it
Join the club
After ordonez's bomb walkoff, it was just the worst thing 13 year old me could have imagined happening.
The stage is perfectly set for cardinals devil magic 😵
It usually is
Don't you put that evil on me
The NLCS will be a matchup of the 79-83 Reds and the 82-80 Giants
Where do I sign?
Baseball has always been a crapshoot but now it’s just ridiculous
Tell me more
Sweeping the dodgers in the first round. 😅
It IS an even year, after all…
I've been crunching the numbers, and the combined win percentage of all 30 teams is actually the same this year as it was last year.
Medium if true
I have no strong feelings one way or the other.
what makes a man turn ~~neutral~~ .500
Tell my wife I said hello
Or don’t. It’s up to you. I can go either way.
Was this before or after you added Kurt Angle to the mix?
The numbers don’t lie
Really? I did a quick number crunch and came up with 32.33%, repeating of course...
Times up. Let’s do this. MILWAUKEEEEE BREWERRRRRS
Least I have brats!
I showed somebody that video and then lost a bet to them because I was positive it was 33.33 repeating.
Get out of here with your Steiner math
Also the same as in the NBA, very strange coincidence. Seems like the MLB is reusing the NBA script
This guy loves stats.
I'm calling bullshit until we see your math explained in an MLB-approved and funded report.
It’s gotta hover somewhere around .500 right? I haven’t checked but that seems about right
Rigged!
Bro I don’t understand what the fuck is wrong with y’all? Why you gotta all suck and not just be awesome like we currently - and very consistently - are? Like it’s hard or something?
Hah. Right? What a bunch of nerds.
I'm furious that some barely over .500 poverty franchise in the AL West is going to get a playoff berth just because they're in a terrible division. Pathetic.
An AL central team saying this is absolutely hilarious
I thought he laid on the sarcasm pretty thick.
And the sarcasm back from an NLC team should have been flat out implied!
Downvote if you love men
Right?
and 1/3 are in the al central...
Twins are playing the most chaotic above.500 season. Twins fans want to burn down everything yet we’d be in the playoffs right now…
Losing to the pirates has psychological effects that aren’t fully understood
Can confirm
Tbf, Twins fans have been neurotic since like 2003 and this offseason the ownership just pushed more buttons. The Pirates are just a symptom
Wouldn’t know, it’s such a pain in the ass to watch twins games now

replace Dodgers with Guardians and you’d have that correct. we beat the Dodgers once
1-16 doesn’t look too much better lol. Hard to get excited about a team that’s not even minimally competitive vs quality opposition.
It’s a tough team to get behind. It’s hard to see how we succeed without anyone hitting the damn ball.
We're like 3-20 against other +.500 teams and not playing in the ALCS is a 43 year old story at this point.
We'll be back, the Brewers are destroying us though
You can thank the whitesox in part for that.
shit we've been propping up the sox, going 3-4 against them
Red Sox doing their part too, and the Rays. Maybe a really bad team is what it'll finally take to stop the AL East
And one of them is the royals
you only need to win 54% of your games. or so I'm told
The fact that you guys are right on the money is hilarious.
Watch the monkey paw curl and the Mariners end the season with a 54% winning % and still miss playoffs just as a f you to that comment
Missing the playoffs with a 54% win percentage last season was the impetus for that comment. The gist was that leadership is aiming for a 54% win percentage every year to hopefully make the crapshoot that is the playoffs.

I'm talking about the Mariners lol
I know, I'm just saying the top two teams in the AL West are suffering from lots of injuries right now. Unless the Mariners want to squeak in a playoff run just for this year the timing isn't that good.

You mean like in 2023, 2021, 2018, 2014, 2007, 2003 and 2002? Lol.
Or maybe it means more teams are good so they beat each other up more often?
This is exactly what it is, look at the national league right now. Teams aren't bad, there is just more good ones.
Name five, I'll wait.
This week's five, or last week's five?
Heliot Ramos, Heliot Ramos, Heliot Ramos, Heliot Ramos and Heliot Ramos. That's five? That's five.
1. Dylan 2. Dylan 3. Dylan 4. Dylan 5. Dylan
I spit hot fire
Re-count confirmed. That's five.
Off the top of my head: Phillies, Dodgers, Braves, Padres, Brewers
Padres are .500 though, they’re like the best of the mid
or are they the midst of the best?
Not anymore!
Actually the Braves suck and will be lucky to ever win a baseball game ever again. Per r/atlantaBraves
Hard not to feel that way the way your season is going
The Phillies, Dodgers, and Braves are the only ones I can think of. I'd add the Brewers, but I'm not convinced because this team has struggled against the better teams all year long and has a losing record against teams above .500.

Pondy is the coolest
Hey look, it's Sheldon's dad!
I was about to ask if it was 😂
There are 10 and it's always like this. This is not unusual. By the end of the year I assume it will be more like 15 teams, which is 1/2.
A lot of the nl central is within 2-3 games of .500 I could see this changing over in the next week or so
Yeah it will improve
There were 14 through the same date last year, and the season ended with 17 teams above .500. 2022 also had 14, however teams had played about 7-10 fewer games than this point this year.
I count 10
Yeah there’s 10. None of the results yesterday changed that number either.
Downvotes for being right? Yankees Orioles Guardians Royal Twins Mariners Phillies Braves Brewers Dodgers
I miscounted, but i'm keeping my karma.
No, teams are playing competitive. This is great
![gif](giphy|S65cMJ8HB4GkM|downsized)
Manfred, you can do stupid things!
Teams under .400 start with a 2 run advantage
sack of monkeys in my pockets. My sister's ready to go!
Good? He's *the best*
But its great for baseball to have the Yanks and Dodgers with allll the superstars as the 2 best teams......
I mean, neither of those two are technically the best team right now...
yeah but it's not in vogue to hate on the phillies and braves that much. If the Astros were good it'd be kosher to complain about them too.
What? Braves fans have been hating on the Braves without issue for weeks now
Touché
But they will be once it’s all said and gone
until they're both knocked out in their division series
Good old butthurt Philly fan. Doesn't matter the sport, you guys are consistent
You spelled Phillies and Guardians wrong. The Yankees look like dog turds without Juan 'im overrated AF' Soto, and the dodgers are just the West Yankees with a massive payroll and nothing to show for it.
Soto isn’t overrated in the slightest. What sport are you watching?
How is Soto overrated if the Yankees are, in your words, dog turds without him? You just admitted he adds massive value lol.
I mean he's good, but the way everyone seems to line up to suck his dick, he's not that good.
You don’t need the comma in your title
To be fair though, you have 12 other teams that are within 5 games of .500. There are only 5 teams that are abysmal. I think this is called parity.
It's the growing middle class
Everyone can't stink. It's just that there are a lot of teams that's are similarly competitive and everyone is splitting series because there's a lot of balance. And a couple really good teams and a few really bad ones. Plus there are some teams relying on or waiting for young players to come up. Parity. Good. Who cares if 100+ win teams choke in the playoffs and the 89 win team wins the WS?
We’re doing our part!
Speak for yourself
I am going to take it personally that somebody with a user name of Regurgitated Anal says we stink.
Thats because the National League is otherworldly levels of competitive right now, and it's so fucking fun to watch baseball right now. So great.
"Competitive" As the Dodgers, Phillies and Brewers are lapping their divisions, the Braves have WC1 practically locked up in June somehow and then the entirety of the rest of the NL barring like 4 teams are within 2 games of WC2.

Is this satire? This has to be satire.
From a Cubs fan’s perspective? Maybe.
We weren’t competitive before cuz we were killing it! We’re competitive now. We definitely don’t suck, we’re just competitive. 😎😎😎
Is this satire? This has to be satire.
Is this satire? This has to be satire.
Is this the real life? Is this just fantasy?
Caught in a landslide, no escape from reality
The NL barely has any teams over .500 😂
Have you ever wondered why that is? Because good teams don't always win when they play other good Teams. When you have good teams playing each other, you dont have temas that are 10 games above .500. Obviously, the Dodgers and the Phillies are the top NL dogs because they are 2 of the top 4 teams in all of baseball. There is a reason the entire NL pretty much it's within playoff range.
The AL is better than the NL once again and it has been for years
OK? That doesn't make it more competitive, which it isn't.
It definitely is
Reds in the last wild card.. had given up on the season
So theres still a chance?
Oh! Hey! It's not us this time!!
Division leaders have been separating themselves early. I don't think a team below .500 will make the playoffs. By the end of the season it usually balances out. some teams fall off or kick it into high gear after the all star break.
good year for everyone to suck while we try to find 5 healthy starting pitchers and let Abreau have a negative batting average
oh no adversity, what does a team ever do, oh no. stop loathing.
There are 10 and one AT .500, but yeah, it’s a pretty lackluster season for the majority of the league.
10 above .500. 11 at or above .500.
Your going to get this when teams deliberately tank.
Most of them are in the AL. The NL is beyond weak
Most of them are in the AL Central fixed it fir you
Only one more than the AL East. The AL has been the better league for quite some time
It’s ten teams… but I agree, the Cubs are bad.
We fucking suck and we’re still only 4 games out of a WC spot. That’s wild to me.
You mean 10?
Based on their weird regular season success against them recently, give me the Dodgers in the wild card round vs the 79-83 Pirates 😈
It’s the Phillies fault.
League average is only 50% win rate.
We?
expanded playoffs are horrible
Imagine if every team lost every single game for the rest of the season? That'd be nuts.
Mediocrity=parity
Nuh uh we don't. In fact I'd wager we're still underperforming
Its what happens when you devalue the division and let more teams in. Everyone racing to be average.
