Me personally I grabbed his rookie draft card in a suit and I am going to buy the Topps rookie refractor in a 9 that’s like $1,000-$1,200. I also just bought a base chalk toss. I am a Cavs fan so I only want him in Cavs gear.

Legitimate_Print3169

Do you mean the Topps rookie 'Chrome' in a 9?

IvanGTheGreat

Lebron rookie autos go for as cheap as 3.5k. Ik that’s not “cheap” but that’s the lowest those cards will ever be.

chungusmcdougal

His cards will become more affordable once he retires and he stops being on ESPN everyday and people on reddit talk about him less and less. Look up the cards of any retired great and you will see. Dwayne wade autograph Rookies from 2003 go for half as much as Anthony Edwards Rookies even though they have a lower population.

Vanquisher_Supreme

Eh, prices jump right after retirement. Wade also isn't James.

Typical-Radish4317

Main RCs, the best inserts over his career, and early signatures, authenticated on card autos. You can see what has stood the test of time for Jordan during his junk wax era. I'm not a huge believer in numbered or parallel cards that aren't first or second year or team changes. I'm staying away from that stuff.

Legitimate_Print3169

Whats your thoughts on his 03 Topps Chrome base?

treemeista

With it being one of his most recognizable cards, it will always be in demand imo. And it will always be more affordable than his Chrome rookie.

ManusRightHand

I'm not familiar with second year being of any more value than third, fourth, etc. is this a thing? If so, any ideas why?

Typical-Radish4317

Probably less of a thing now that so many sets get released. And maybe not be a thing for LeBron as he had a million rookie cards but 2nd-year cards used to be a bigger deal because they'd a lot of the times have a better design than the design of the original RC. Best basketball example of this is probably Larry Birds Topps 1981. Very collectible but not his RC

mattshifflerphoto

This is the way. Great takes here.

I’ve been buying LeBron gem mint slabs for the past year and a half. Outside of rookies, I just buy low pop stuff that I think is cool.

DingoOk6400

I picked up an 03 Topps chrome bgs 9.5 as a long term hold. I’m also thinking about the 08 chrome refractor Kobe Bryant that has Lebron on it. I think that card is going to become a more and more iconic piece of history

Cade_02

He’s too tied in with the political stuff. I go to a lot of shows. Not as many people interested in his stuff these days. Jordan/Kobe can sell all day. LeBron is hated by the right. I have friends that won’t collect him. lol. I’m not political. But these are facts. LeBron is never going to draw what Jordan and Kobe will. I keep some old cards of his - but his peak isn’t worth chasing. That ship has sailed.

Legitimate_Print3169

Interesting, I always felt Kobe's cards didn't get as much love. Lebron on the hand has had the benefit of having a great marketing team.
