There's a setting in windows where clicking cntrl makes a big white circle flash over where your cursor is located.
Go to Settings > Devices > Mouse > Related settings > Additional mouse options > Pointer Options
MacOS will scale up your cursor for a moment if you shake it enough.
For Windows you can go into Mouse Properties > Pointer Options and enable 'Show location of pointer when I press the CTRL key' to see a circle around it - or you can get PowerToys which has a 'Find my mouse' tool that can replicate this with CTRL (and looks better too), with mouse shaking, or with any custom hotkey.
If you specifically wanted something to force the mouse back to the center of the main monitor, you could use AutoHotKey. Something like this oughta work (note this is written for v2):
CoordMode "Mouse", "Screen"
#`::
{
CenterX := A_ScreenWidth / 2
CenterY := A_ScreenHeight / 2
MouseMove(CenterX, CenterY)
}
This would move your mouse to the center of the primary monitor whenever you pressed Win + ` - [here](https://www.autohotkey.com/docs/v2/Hotkeys.htm) is the documentation page for hotkeys so you can figure out how to bind it to something else.
PowerToys allows you to jiggle the mouse and it will dim the screen everywhere except where the mouse is. Kinda cool for multi-monitor setup. It also allows to do similar stuff to what you described.
I have a similar setup. My work laptop is an HP Elitebook G 870. I have three monitors hooked up to the Dell D6000 dock (2 2k monitors and one 1080) and then another 2k monitor connected straight to the laptop using USB-C.
Damn my brand new MSI raider has, technically, a better card, but I was afraid to plug in more than one additional monitor!
What does the fan sound like? Cause one additional monitor makes mine sound like a Chinook taking off.
I can easily run laptop display + 3 panels off a $500 Lenovo X12 (lenovo's surface pro clone)...got that back in 2022-ish? I've also had generic Dell Latitudes do the same thing all the way back in 2018, though low-to-mid range -- they weren't $500 cheap.
My nearly top-specced Macbook Air from this year? One external display, unless I go full-jank with DisplayLink.
It's not about paying the same amount.
It's a plug in for audio equipment. Can be used as a workaround for not having a big mixing board/DI box. It can simulate the type of outputs you desire to use to make use of otherwise incompatible audio gear. And it's free and open source so it's a real treat for anyone using a lot of coms on PC.
I assume you are referring to the dashboards on the left screens? That’s just the truenas admin web portal. No special software to connect. Runs smb shares and a few containers like plex, Minecraft, etc. Other dashboards pictured include the unfi controller, Aquasuite (fan controller device specifically for water cooling), and VoiceMeeter.
I'm glad you have balance.
Even when I was single, I always had a 2 bedroom apartment because I would go stir crazy being in one place too long. I always had my PC in one room and my TV/console in the main room. Didn't even like having a TV in the bedroom.
Nowadays, if I sit more than an hour I get stiff and achey.
This is what I was gonna say, I’ve spent over $300 on kvm switches, none of them have actually performed as well as I expected. At this point I just have gaming PC and work laptop connected to all monitors at the same time and I can just switch input in each monitor. Keyboard/mouse are wireless with Bluetooth and RF
I use three monitors, use Logitech kb & mouse and 3x hdmi switchers so can choose which monitor is on which setup and can easily switch control to home or work. Much neater and cheap as chips.
Well senior, I analyze the infrastructure haha
I manage and maintain the server and application infrastructure for the company. Servers (Dell), virtualization (VMware, Azure), VDI (horizon), Sharepoint, O365 backend, backups (commvault), storage (pure), Active Directory, patching, hardware upgrades/replacements, etc.
I have a couple peers on my team (infrastructure) and we have a helpdesk team, network team, and security team, that we collaborate with as needed. Around 20 of us supporting a couple thousand users all over the globe. Few hundred VMs, maybe 50 servers, couple hundred terabytes of data in on-prem datacenters. Not huge, but not tiny either. Large enough to play with some of the bigger tools. Small enough that our teams aren’t super siloed and we get a lot of cross collaboration. My day to day is mostly projects with some maintenance sprinkled in. Maybe 5-10% travel per year.
Sounds nice!
Thanks, really appreciate the detailed answer.
I'm also in sysadmin/devops stuff, and always nice to hear how everyone's doing in this (broader) field.
Not the guy you were replying to, but I spy Web Help Desk.
We use it too! Except my ticket queue does not look absolutely no where near as nice as yours does…..
I think you should go full circle and install another desk with another set of screens. Clearly, you don’t have enough screens. Also, how’s your circuit load?
Three separate 15a 110v circuits in this room. One for ac unit, one for gaming pc setup, one for the work setup and server rack (not pictured. It’s off to the right of work laptop). I have to be careful not to overload the server rack circuit. But usually it’s not an issue.
Thanks. I forgot to mention, server rack is on a rack mount UPS, and gaming rig is on a dedicated floor UPS. So if I do trip a breaker (haven’t yet), things stay alive long enough for me to correct the issue safely. And everything shuts down cleanly in the event of a power outage.
I mean what you use all 4 monitors for. It looks like you had to open every app on your computer to make it look like they're all used. Like you do really need Voicemeeter open all the time? And on a work computer too? Why not get a KVM or something so you don't need 8 monitors on the same desk?
Right now, I'm learning web development through codecademy. Is IT infrastructure something I could learn through Codecademy?
How easy or hard is your job?
Took me 12 years to get here. Started in data entry, and worked my way through helpdesk, technical support engineer, system administrator, to infrastructure analyst. It’s definitely not easy, but it’s very doable.
Different monitors serve different purposes. Work machine is all about pixel count. More “desk” space to use. So dual 4k 60hz monitors. But then also a normal 1080p monitor for so my coworkers can actually read anything during screen sharing. Don’t need high refresh rate, would make it harder to drive.
Gaming primary is 3440x1440 ultrawide high refresh rate. Don’t need higher resolution as it makes higher fps harder.
Also, it’s crucial (for me) to have a different view when gaming to make the mental compartmentalization of work time vs personal time much easier. Some people need different physical spaces to achieve this. Since my hobbies are so similar to my work, turning in my chair and seeing different screens gives my brain enough of a change to accomplish this mental separation.
I ought to replicate your setup to some degree, since both your general layout and view towards compartmentalization are similar to mine. I also *really* like the idea of having a dedicated screenshare monitor. I RDP into my work laptop so my 3440x1440 monitor becomes my primary for that; screensharing with it has always been a pain.
Also good to see a fellow Beyer enjoyer.
No idea how you handle sitting for that long, especially in one place. I couldn't handle IT work, I work in instrument repair so I get to walk around the shop and climb on equipment all day. Coming home to game feels mentally and physically relaxing.
My body has adjusted to long periods of sitting. A good chair and good posture is key. Also, breaks whenever possible. My office (pictured) is on a different floor than the kitchen, so running up/down the stairs for meals or snacks helps. Going on walks or bike rides is important. Etc.
Some days I do miss going into an office and walking around. But I’m so much more productive at home without people stopping by my desk and interrupting my train of thought. And I just can’t beat the commute of wfh lol
One thing that WFH has ruined for me is my office. I used to love having a nice space to go and chill with a game. Now I have to leave by 17:00. Feels like a toxic and shitty space. Hoping a job change will remedy this.
What’s it normally look like before the clean lol, mountain dews and pizza boxes 😊? I feel like this is every gamer kids dream set up, it looks like you are protecting the world from hackers.
It’s a Dell WD22TB4 thunderbolt dock. 3 monitors go through the dock, and the 4th goes through the laptop hdmi. The dock supports 4 monitors, but I found that if I ran all four through the dock, one of the 4k displays would run at 30hz. Moving one of the 1080p displays to the laptop hdmi allowed me to run all four monitors at 60hz.
It’s more or less smooth. It’s still a dock so there’s always a little bit more headache than just running a desktop. But it’s pretty decent all things considered.
Blink a lot, blue light filter in glasses. Try my best to follow the 20-20-20 rule (but I’m bad at it)
20-20-20 rule
Option 1: every 20 minutes look at something at least 20 feet away for at least 20 seconds
Option 2: every 20 minutes get up and walk at least 20 feet away for at least 20 hours.
My brother/sister in Christ. Holy fuck! This is the first time I've ever seen anything like this. Do you not get like...sensory overload or something with all the screens and in such a relatively small space. Maybe I should get into IT Infrastructure...
Man I could not do Game and work in the same desk. I have to have them on separate areas just so I'm not in the same area for like 15 hours a day. Cool setup though.
It doesn't look terribly unergonomic or uncomfortable, if you consider that the monitors that are mainly in use are the ones on eye level. Desk could use a little more depth, but then again my desk is 90cm deep and i have my mouse and keyboard sitting on the front edge anyway so there is that.
And not everything has to be cost efficient, watercooling a PC isn't cost efficient, more than two monitors aren't cost efficient, custom keyboards aren't cost efficient, gaming PCs in general aren't cost efficient most of the time and they don't need to be, as long as it's fun.
I love it when people show photos of them “working” and they open a load of random tabs before taking the photo to make their job look more interesting
These setups with so many monitors always give me a depressed feeling because I imagine that person really spending their whole life in front of that screens.
I can only assume OP is of the understanding that they need 1 monitor per app installed on their devices and has yet to discover the ALT+Tab keyboard shortcut or what a KVM switch is.
Yea the monitors are waaay too close for my taste, and way too little space for keyboard and mouse. Also I had 4 monitor setup before, but noticed that I prefer one larger monitor instead, way less neckpain.
It looks good though, and I’m happy for the op of course for amazing setup, everyone does whats good for themselves.
Awesome setup! What’s the software portal you’re using that has the alerts and documentation? The one with the severity alerts and looks like hyper something?
I have a similar setup but I just switch the inputs on the monitors when I'm at work and use a usb switch for a keyboard so I don't need duplicates of everything

Bro needs two days to find mouse cursor
Damn. Somebody should make a program that runs in the background and uses a hotkey to force it back to the center of the main monitor.
Or at least an operating system that has a built in hotkey to locate the cursor. Maybe someday.
Just use powertoys, you can enable function which highlights the cursor when you double tap control
I have powertoys and Idk why. But I do now.
Fancyzones
This, Fancyzones is so comfy to use I am now unable to move away from Windows.
hell yeah fancyzones!
I keep forgetting about that!
There’s a windows setting that pings it when you hit control
Windows has this though.
expand on that edit: why the hell would you downvote i honestly wanted to know how to find the feature? weird people
There's a setting in windows where clicking cntrl makes a big white circle flash over where your cursor is located. Go to Settings > Devices > Mouse > Related settings > Additional mouse options > Pointer Options
TIL… thank you kind stranger this is amazing
I'm not as insane as OP, but I have a three monitor setup at work and home so it's a necessity for me
Damn
Shake the cursor on macOS and the cursor grows in size so you can see it
Even that, you also need 5 mins to find the cursor among those monitors lol
Ctrl on Win11
I usually right click if I can’t find the mouse.
Mac have a feature that if you shake the mouse the cursor gets huge so you can see it
Microsoft powertoys does the same thing for windows, just very few people know it exists.
PowerToys allows you to jiggle the mouse and it will dim the screen everywhere except where the mouse is. Kinda cool for multi-monitor setup. It also allows to do similar stuff to what you described.
This exists as keyboard shortcuts on Windows
how many screens do you want? OP: yes
The dell laptop is driving 4 monitors ??
Yep. Laptop has an Nvidia A1000 dedicated gpu and integrated Intel Iris XE. More than capable.
I’ve got 4 displays hanging off my Dell Latitude 5420 using the built in HDMI plus the 3 ports on a Dell D6000 dock. It all runs beautifully. 👌🏽
That’s MSI for you. Good value for the money, but when they get loud they sound like somebody is revving a Mitsubishi Eclipse inside your house
Sounds like my Lenovo X1 as soon as I connect to a Zoom call
Windows laptop can be good if you pay similar amount as a top end Mac.
Not even, you can get a Windows laptop that drives 4 monitors for less than $1500.
As I shall quote the gentleman yesterday I saw who said this, *Thats quite the masterbatorium*
lol I too saw that comment and that post
I don't know for sure but I suspect the origin of this term is the movie Running with Scissors. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aR8YAG48qEo

Voicemeter represent ✊🏼
Love voicemeeter
what do you use it for?
It's a plug in for audio equipment. Can be used as a workaround for not having a big mixing board/DI box. It can simulate the type of outputs you desire to use to make use of otherwise incompatible audio gear. And it's free and open source so it's a real treat for anyone using a lot of coms on PC.
I see - a fellow human sitting for 14+ hours a day.
Dude that's my struggle, I got a standing desk I use on an off throughout the day for this exact reason.
Bro’s eyesight is taking damage.
Can you explain how so?
How do you find the k100? Worth the price?
I really enjoy it. The optical switches are something else. Great for gaming. Less great for typing.
What's your electric bill?
A valid question lol. Electric, water, and sewer are combined in municipal utilities. Total bill is usually around ~$200/month
That's somehow less than mine
Small city in rural Midwest lol
TOMBSTONE
I pay $200 just for electricity. It’s that damn AC/heater that gets you
I don't think a few monitors will drive up you're electricity bill all that much.
I think I’m in love.
What’s behind the black curtains?
100 inch TV of course
The monitor boxes lol
What are you battling?
ADHD lol
Can I ask what’s the software you use to remote connect to the TrueNAS and other stuff you have in there?
I assume you are referring to the dashboards on the left screens? That’s just the truenas admin web portal. No special software to connect. Runs smb shares and a few containers like plex, Minecraft, etc. Other dashboards pictured include the unfi controller, Aquasuite (fan controller device specifically for water cooling), and VoiceMeeter.
Thanks!
While you’re at it. Make a 360 desk
There is no way I could spend 66% of my day in the same room, in the same position.
I try not to do it too often. I attempt to rotate between social events, movies in the home theater, date night with my partner, and gaming.
This is genuinely dystopic
do you have a fear of having too many monitors?? 3 more would barely be sufficient, 5 more..perfect!
Nice setup mate
I love how IT people are gamers on the inside.
I also work in front of comp all day, lots of times I don't even feel like gaming at night anymore, anyone else?
Why not using a kvm switch instead of duplicating everything 🤦🏽♂️
Easier to game during business hours with a separate setup imo
Agreed, requiring switching means I don’t see out of my periphery when someone has messaged me on Teams.
I was wondering the same thing. Why 4 + 4 monitors when you can have 8 ALL THE TIME!!!! :p
Kvm switches are horribly unreliable.
Buy your KVM switches from Level1Techs. They are expensive but they are actually made with gaming in mind.
I use three monitors, use Logitech kb & mouse and 3x hdmi switchers so can choose which monitor is on which setup and can easily switch control to home or work. Much neater and cheap as chips.
Q: How many monitors do you have? A: Yes. /s
What do you do for work?
Senior Infrastructure Analyst.
How many years did it take before landing this gig? It’s looking like my future
Took me 12 years. But that doesn’t mean it can’t be done faster.
what do you do as Senior Infrastructure Analyst? can you explain a bit? sounds interesting
Well senior, I analyze the infrastructure haha I manage and maintain the server and application infrastructure for the company. Great setup. What desks do you use for both desks? Do you happen to know the dimensions of them as well? Cheers mate - from Australia
Thanks! They are butcherblock countertops on a leg kit. Left desk is 8feetx2feet. Right desk is 4feetx2feet
Holy infosec Batman
Nice. I spy Commvault and that blasted Java console.
Good eye lol
Not the guy you were replying to, but I spy Web Help Desk. We use it too! Except my ticket queue does not look absolutely no where near as nice as yours does…..
lol that’s because my tickets are mostly projects. We have a good help desk team that takes the majority of the normal tickets.
Big ahh ventilation tube going out the window
I think you should go full circle and install another desk with another set of screens. Clearly, you don’t have enough screens. Also, how’s your circuit load?
Three separate 15a 110v circuits in this room. One for ac unit, one for gaming pc setup, one for the work setup and server rack (not pictured. It’s off to the right of work laptop). I have to be careful not to overload the server rack circuit. But usually it’s not an issue.
Good answer ✅
Thanks. I forgot to mention, server rack is on a rack mount UPS, and gaming rig is on a dedicated floor UPS. So if I do trip a breaker (haven’t yet), things stay alive long enough for me to correct the issue safely. And everything shuts down cleanly in the event of a power outage.
Now we’re talking
I mean what you use all 4 monitors for. It looks like you had to open every app on your computer to make it look like they're all used. Like you do really need Voicemeeter open all the time? And on a work computer too? Why not get a KVM or something so you don't need 8 monitors on the same desk?
How'd you sort your Spotify playlist by plays?
This is gorgeous! Finally something that stands out 👍
Ah, a fellow voice meter potato on the top monitor enjoyer
this is beautiful
This is the goal
Right now, I'm learning web development through codecademy. Is IT infrastructure something I could learn through Codecademy? How easy or hard is your job?
Took me 12 years to get here. Started in data entry, and worked my way through helpdesk, technical support engineer, system administrator, to infrastructure analyst. It’s definitely not easy, but it’s very doable.
What monitor mounts are you using?
Amazon VIVO
Cant lie, id love this 😂
Are you not tempted to game during work, haha
You look like when batman breaks into a hackers house.
Do you manually snap the windows to have the left take up all and two squares too the right. On the two big right most monitors
Windows 11 has this snapping built in. But also PowerToys FancyZones is awesome.
I don't know how people survive without KVM switches with monitor counts like this.
Different monitors serve different purposes. Work machine is all about pixel count. More “desk” space to use. So dual 4k 60hz monitors. This is soooo cool !! Great setup !
Idk how people play with such little mouse space. Crazy set ups tho impressed
Damn, i can’t mix the streams like this
Probably my ignorance, but I'm not convinced this is necessary or productive for anyone
Is that servicenow ticketing system on your work screen?
Holy monitors. This looks like something out of a sci-fi movie
No idea how you handle sitting for that long, especially in one place. I couldn't handle IT work, I work in instrument repair so I get to walk around the shop and climb on equipment all day. Coming home to game feels mentally and physically relaxing.

What is that stream deck you have on the gaming side? Does it have analogs on it?
Stream deck +. It has dials, but they are technically still digital. https://a.co/d/1YmKOLz
So you have 4 x running off the Dell and dock, whats the other side powered from? Have you ever considered going for less monitors (go ultrawide)?
What’s it normally look like before the clean lol, mountain dews and pizza boxes 😊? I feel like this is every gamer kids dream set up, it looks like you are protecting the world from hackers.
Sick setup. What do you use for monitor arms?
Amazon VIVO desk mount arms
Coollll🤑
I love how absolutely overkill this is
Now this my friends is a battle station!
Nobody mentioning TrueNAS? 🤝
What dock do you use to connect your Dell laptop monitors? Does it work smoothly ?
It’s a Dell WD22TB4 thunderbolt dock. 3 monitors go through the dock, and the 4th goes through the laptop hdmi. The dock supports 4 monitors, but I found that if I ran all four through the dock, one of the 4k displays would run at 30hz. Moving one of the 1080p displays to the laptop hdmi allowed me to run all four monitors at 60hz. It’s more or less smooth. It’s still a dock so there’s always a little bit more headache than just running a desktop. But it’s pretty decent all things considered.
How do you deal with eye strain?
Blink a lot, blue light filter in glasses. Try my best to follow the 20-20-20 rule (but I’m bad at it) 20-20-20 rule Option 1: every 20 minutes look at something at least 20 feet away for at least 20 seconds Option 2: every 20 minutes get up and walk at least 20 feet away for at least 20 hours.
This person is stacking remote gigs, and it shows.
Goon station
On one hand, I love it. On the other hand, that can’t be healthy
got that "I don't even see the code anymore" setup
Guys, I think he might like Taylor Swift
My brother/sister in Christ. Holy fuck! This is the first time I've ever seen anything like this. Do you not get like...sensory overload or something with all the screens and in such a relatively small space. Maybe I should get into IT Infrastructure...
What the hell do you do as a job? Professional Net Runner???
Professional googler, button pusher, flag raiser, performance monitor, problem sniper, and cymbal monkey from Toy Story 3.
Man I could not do Game and work in the same desk. I have to have them on separate areas just so I'm not in the same area for like 15 hours a day. Cool setup though.
I also turn left after work to game! But I’m missing a few monitors compared to you lol
Left turn gang unite!
And here I'm using one monitor for 4 PCs, like a peasant.
Damn
That's so siiick
This sub is quickly turning into senseless consumerism. There's no way this is ergonomic, comfortable or cost efficient.
The classic work 8 hours in front of the monitors to be able to afford to spend another few hours in front of monitors.
I can only assume OP is of the understanding that they need 1 monitor per app installed on their devices and has yet to discover the ALT+Tab keyboard shortcut or what a KVM switch is.

Not everyone's. This feels claustrophobic and unclean for my personal battlestation
Homie could literally save half the space in monitors and money if he just used a switch and kept one set of monitors.
Cool setup bet its seems very overcomplicated. Could just have it all in one
Bet it’s hot in there…
Win for truenas <3
