Trash, kitty poop, chicken bones. Oh, this is asking what the human feeds the beagle and not what the beagle eats when unattended! We gave our girl Wellness (and Wellness Senior)

MikePap

I would like to add: Daisies, rocks, sticks and leaves.

Spiritual-Chameleon

Oh yeah. We moved out of our condo and into a house with a really nice yard. Beagle loved it. Developed taste for eating gravel. We had to watch her closely and wrestle gravel out of her mouth for the rest of her life.

Jonsez

Haha love this answer šŸ‘

quailstorm24

My beagles are also on Wellness

NN2coolforschool

Yep! Those and on special occasions when the beagle finds a whole mole carcass. Not fresh dead, noooo. It has to be black and decayed

Immediate_Emu6075

My girl was very fussy and would only eat Purina one venison and Turkeyā€¦ she tended to pick out the best meat chunks and leave the dry kibble for her brother. Also if your full of energy they have always liked some cooked white rice with ground beef.

gonzoexpresss

This is what my Cooper does!!

BitPuzzleheaded5311

My beagle, as well. Purina one.

BILGERVTI

We use the Royal Canin hypoallergenic for 3 different beagles since 2005, they all liked it. For ā€œaddonsā€ Previous 2 beagles liked blueberries, carrots, and banana among other things. Current beagle does not care for those but likes steamed broccoli, sweet potato, and cucumber. We try to limit the carbs/grains. They all enjoy chicken, meat, and fish from time to time. Edit: also a splash of milk or any kind of broth makes kibble more appetizing to each of my beagles. Just enough to soak into the kibble, not like breakfast cereal and milk.

Canā€™t go wrong with anything from The Honest Kitchen. Clean, healthy ingredients! I feed the dehydrated food as their meals and use the dry clusters for training.

2beagles1cat

Was gonna say basically this. I alternate each meal with various "flavors" of the Honest Kitchen dry clusters and the dehydrated; plus have used several other of their products. Also use several Stella & Chewy's products, but regularly use their Meal Mixers as a topper. By the way, Stella & Chewy's "Wild Weenies" treats are to die for based on the reactions of my girls and of other pups I have gifted a bag to! Edit: Forgot to say that your baby is adorable!

Orijen

Appropriate_Pop675

We've tried everything with our young Beagle and his sensitive belly, even Royal Canine prescription. Orijen is hands down the best.

Mara_Jade93

Our beagle loves Farmers Dog! Itā€™s pricey but it helped our overweight beagle go from 31 pounds to 21 pounds in a year. She also was full of bladder stones so we got her on a prescription diet to balance her out to prevent the stones from returning and mix some of the Farmers Dog since she loves it so much!

I know BEG diets can be an issue. However, everyone who loves dogs, and beagles in particular, should be aware that many of the major food brands test on animals. You might say, itā€™s dog food, of course they test on dogs, but thereā€™s a difference between using dogs who spend their entire lives in tiny cages and are often used for cruel and painful experiments, and volunteer dogs who live normal home lives while eating the food thatā€™s being tested. There is an app called Cruelty Cutter, made by Beagle Freedom Project, that has a pet food section and will tell you which brands are and are not cruelty free. The main culprits linked to diet induced DCM in dogs are peas, legumes, and potatoes. Avoid foods with those in the top 10 ingredients and make sure itā€™s AAFCO certified. Off the top of my head, Go!, Farmina, and Nulo make formulas without those ingredients.

Itā€™s a bit worrying that out of all the responses so far only one has mentioned raw / fresh food prepared at home as the main source supplemented by manufactured food

StoneyBonsai

We have a very picky beagle. He gets half a can of hills science tender turkey sensitive stomach and half a cup of hills chicken kibble sensitive stomach in separate bowls. The tender turkey is mixed with 3 oz of hot filtered water, and then we spoon a little on top of the dry kibble. Both bowls are topped off with a little bit of shredded deli chicken.

AliceMarie_56

ProPlan but Iā€™m trying to convince my husband to get Farmerā€™s Dog or Nom Nom fresh food. We only have 1 dog and she weighs about 30 lbs,

yourbuddywyatt

My beagle eats Royal Canin Weight Management kibble. Sheā€™s a little chonky.

stlthy1

Science Diet weight management kibble....with occasional "Fresh pet" mixed in

Purple-Associate

thank you all for the responses, i will be doing a bit of research on all of these methods šŸ˜Š

FiggyP55

Just another idea, I spent so much time worrying how little my domestic terrorist errr beagle puppy was eating because he just wasnā€™t really interested in food which was so crazy given our previous food obsessed beagle. Once we got him neutered his appetite kicked into overdrive and now I wish I hadnā€™t pushed food or worried so much. One thing that always sparked joy was when I sprinkled some Stella and Chewy chicken dinner patty on top of his regular kibble, itā€™s still his absolutely favorite treat!!!!

Lab-rat-57

Pro Plan weight management. I had him on Purina One at first, but the vet said i needed to cut down his food 25% so he could lose a few pounds. I cut his food and walked him moreā€” after several months he only lost 1lb. I switched him to the weight management diet and heā€™s lost 2.5 more!

desertfl0wer

I feed mine purina one plus puppy! Sometimes I mix in the wet food version with the dry kibble. I also occasionally put half of the dry food in a snuffle mat with some treats and he loves that.

Fabulous_Ad_7699

I have a 9 month old beagle and we feed her Purina pro plan sensitive skin and stomach - puppy version. We will switch her to the adult version in another month or so. I was actually feeding my other dog blue buffalo.. but it was causing unnecessary weight gain.. which is actually a common issue with blue buffalo. My vet also didnā€™t recommend blue buffalo for some reason. The grain free thing is true, because they say that it increases their risk of cancer.

Nuggetthebeagle

Royal Canin Hydrolyzed Protein loaf food, Hills HYPO treats, with some bananas, and occasionally frozen and raw veggies and fruits. ā¤šŸ¶ Edit to removed "frozen" from before "bananas" and added "occasionally frozen" referring to raw veggies and fruits. Also, occasionally gets some HƤagen-Dazs strawberry or vanilla bean ice cream with bananas. I know dairy is supposed to be a no no, I'm sorry.

RuggedAlpha60

Fromm, family owned, they don't sell to big chains and come in nice variety of flavors completely holistic.

MikePap

Our boy has a sensitive tummy and found that BRIT salmon works for him

jeclin91092

What I give him: Purina Pro Plan Plus for sensitive skin and tummies What he insists on eating: various poop he finds, soap, sticky fly ribbons, wood, rocks, bird seed... I feel like I'm the only person in the world who's had to call poison control for my dog... more than once.

girlwiththemonkey

Mine is currently eating the bagel that I just had in my hand yeah. Little shit just snatched it from me. šŸ˜

UltraBlue89

My pack loves Rachel Ray's beef and rice

Inevitable-One-6699

Mine use to eat nutro. We noticed him having some depression, wanting to be in his crate just sad boy vibes. Switched him to farmers dog, he is a puppy again! Best decision ever. It is pricey but worth every penny, it is so noticeable how much more healthier he is and his poops

Epic_Fail314

I just get ground Turkey and look up dog food recipes there's sweet potatoes and other veggies and i just jar them in the fridge and make when needed. You can find homemade natural dog food recipes online for beagles.

aggieerin

We have them on the salmon taste of the wild which we top with a scoop of purina wet food (usually the turkey and venison). They eat it like itā€™s going out of style, but one also loves rocks, so not too picky.

marshallfrost

Purina pro plan

Armadilligator

My Ruthie gets Natural balance Fat Dogs but donā€™t tell her

Specialist-Raccoon-1

Purina Beneful, and then we supplement with fresh carrots as treats, baked sweet potatoes, canned green beans, steak or salmon, or whatever ā€œhealthyā€ leftovers we may have. With it being summer, weā€™re all eating a lot of watermelon and fresh veggies!Ā  I recently read that kibble should be viewed as cereal where you have the dry food and then ā€œtoppings,ā€ so weā€™re really trying to provide healthy and yummy options.Ā

Southern-Library-974

We feed Origen cuse our dog eats it he also will sneak his own turd or two and rip out his brothers hair for a snack too

daisy_golightly

One of mine eats Wholesomes sensitive skin and stomach because he is allergic to everything and it doesnā€™t give him a rash like most foods. The other eats Purina Pro Plan Puppy.

littlebethyblue

'BEG' diets (boutique, exotic meats, and grain free) have been linked to increases in cardiac myopathy I think it was in dogs. Vets are doing reaearch on what exactly the mechanism is to try and figure it out, but often the smaller companies don't use board certified veterinary nutritionists or do feeding studies, etc. My girls got the sensitive stomach prescription stuff from Hills I think because one liked to eat everything they shouldn't and the other liked to mimic her sister but had a sensitive stomach. After a lot of gastro upset, it worked for them. Maybe some broth or a probiotic or something?

Regallybeagley

Legumes and taurine deficiency is the culprit for DCM. It just goes hand in hand that BEG diets contain those. Grain free as well as grain containing foods have been reported. My beagle was fed raw Stella and Chewys his whole life without heart issues. You donā€™t see raw foods on the list for DCM

Purple-Associate

omg we were told he may be taurine deficient. good to know
