Learn the lesson that Sloop is fine at best. If Juice Bomb is the craft option at a non-craft bar/restaurant that’s more than satisfactory, but there’s no reason to get their cans over so many other better breweries that hit their distro range. You’d have to be in a pretty weak market for them to be the best option on a shelf.
thanks man -- I couldn't agree more.. you're confirming the suspicions I've had in my mind this whole time! Juice Bomb is seriously nothing special; I'm not sure how it exploded like it did. I'm in the NYC market (aka lots of options) so I'll go elsewhere with my $$ :)
I’m also in NYC and yea any halfway decent bottle shop should always have better and fresher options, though it’s true Sloop is usually a couple bucks less than other 16oz hazies.
As for why they blew up, they really made a concerted effort to make Juice Bomb the everyday entry-level hazy IPA for the region and it’s been pretty successful. Most people I know who like beer but aren’t in-the-weeds really like it, and it’s all over bars and restaurants that don’t really care about beer, and in those settings it’s solid enough.
I also have a bit of a soft spot because I have family up near their original Barn location and went a few times in the early days, and had some early batches of pre-canning Juice Bomb when it was just the beer from the local brewery down the road.
interesting, good to know!! thanks for sharing. I'll definitely stick to my guns re: great local beers. heck, I'd even taken a Genesee craft over Sloop at this point lolol
OH is great. They used to be maybe THE best for hazy/NEIPA, or at least on a very short list, and they still put out awesome stuff though since they’ve expanded so much it’s a little hard to know which of the 20+ options is really great instead of just good, but yea it’s hard to go too wrong with almost any of their IPA.
If you’re in the city itself and haven’t checked out any of their taprooms I’d highly recommend it.
As far as other guys in the city itself, Finback is the next best for IPA, and Grimm is legit too. KCBC is very solid. They all show up in shops but also worth visiting their taprooms.
Maybe on the box but some companies have been taking it off or making it harder to find because people are aware how IPAs degrade fast and don’t want people to not buy it.
dammmnnnnn Sloop is doing me dirty!! that's so unfortunate. you're right though, these certainly aren't fresh. at least a few months after purchase, which is on me but still :(
Looks normal for a NEIPA. Yeast and hop particulate.
If you decant carefully you can leave much of that in the can. Some like it, others not as much.
oh I'm just an idiot then. thanks :)
The good ol’ Lakefront pint glass.
Great eye!! One of my favorite brewery experiences. Need to get back to MKE hahah
Yeah, it’s really good.

Would you recommend Other Half, or is it also a just-okay-for-the-area? I've enjoyed the few I've tried.

What’s the date on the cans? Probably 6+ months old.
lemme check
don't see one (must be on the box), but you're probably right ;/
Bottom of the can. Could be a date or Julian dated.
literally nothing there. odd right?

Yup. This is why I’ve really started to stop buying IPAs from liquor stores in my area unless I know for a fact they have a recent release.
Noted. Good to know, thanks!!

this same pack of beer has a Mosaic Bomb that tasted incredibly off -- like to the point of spoilage
