Just me or has high life really gained popularity lately? It’s become the new go to in my friend group, a lot of bars I visit, and it’s often a top answer on Reddit threads. I don’t remember that being the case until the last 12 months or so
Ibotta is a cash back app. Just need to add the deal, take a picture of your receipt and then you’ll get the cash back. I think you need to get to $20 before you can send it to your bank account/change it for a gift card. Coors/Busch usually have a “any liquor store” deal for $3 off. If you do multiple deals you can get a bonus deal for an extra $1-2 back.
My dad was a Coors guy through and through. I think maybe once or twice I saw him without a Banquet or Silver bullet. I remember my Gramps would bust my Dads balls by calling Coors "dishwater beer" but then my Gramps drank Old Milwaukee.
Anyway I'll always love Coors but there is just too much other delicious beer to try these days. This week/holiday for me has been Yellow Springs Captain Stardust Saison.
Oh, I get it. If I just want a "regular beer", this is my go to. If I had a desert island beer, it would be Noble Beast Kapitan Altbier. I stretch my legs, but nothing makes grilling better than a pint bottle of banquet.
Hey, my friend took 2nd in that competition! Tall skinny nerdy dude, one of my favorite people ever. He works for Griffin Claw, now.
Edit: for a cider, were there categories, or was it overall?
Big fan of macro Mexican beers as well. Specifically during summer time and grilling season.
Victoria is my absolute favorite. Harder to find as I need to go to Total Wine for it. But it’s tops in my book. Followed by Pacifico.
As the coals are heating up I like to sit with a nice IPA or even double IPA from one of the many local breweries where I’m from in South Jersey.
Once the coals are ready and I start grilling, I try to switch to something easier to drink and lower ABV. Miller lite, Budweiser or 21st Amendment’s Hell or High Watermelon are favorites.
I usually don’t worry about pairing food with beer so once we eat I’ll drink whatever.
Never been there but you can usually find Kane at a lot of bars around me. Kane Head High is one of my go to’s if I’m being indecisive and and want something I know I’ll like.
My girlfriend and I are attempting to visit every brewery in NJ and have hit most of them down south. Kane is definitely on our list for north Jersey breweries to hit soon.
Today's line up is:
Genesee Cream Ale (first time I've found it on the shelf in Minnesota) for the macro
Victory Prima Pils for the craft lager
New Glarus IPA for the craft ale
Prima and Pivo from Firestone Walker are my widely distributed "go to" Pilsners. It always seems like when I can find one, I can't find the other.
There are a lot of great local pilsners in my area, but I'm still jealous of those who can get Suarez, Bierstadt, Jester King, Heater Allen, pFriem and Von Trapp pilsners on a regular basis.
Oh my god, be careful with the Genny Cream. When I bought them, the store owner called them Genny Screamers and I thought it was just a funny joke like "haha taco bell makes you poo".
I drank two or three of them one night. A few hours later, I was puking and projectile shitting... Awful feeling, but I thought it might be food poisoning or something. A few days later, I figured I'd try them again. Same exact thing. My guts felt like they were going to explode until I puked and shat. I tried one again a week later, this time for science... No surprise - same thing. Never touching it again.
Of note, I've NEVER had this happen with a beer before. Just saying: be careful. If you choose to go down this path, I'd be grateful if you followed up to let me know if you had the same issue.
That's odd, were the beers super out of date or contaminated? You'd figure all of upstate New York would be filled with puke and shit if it was that easy to get sick of these with how prevalent they are there. I've mainly heard of the Genny Screamers after having like 12 - 15 of them, at which point your gastrointestinal track would be compromised with any beer.
Captain's Log: Stardate: +3 hours after first 2 Gennys- no anal leakage as of let. Going in for a 3rd, but I may be tempting fate at this point.
Also, pleased to report that it is a good beer for a spicy Bloody Mary chaser. The sweetness offsets the heat nicely.
Lager. Yuengling Lager that is. America's oldest is still America's best.
Well not really the best but Yuengling was is my baby formula so I still enjoy a few every now and then.
It's pretty much only sold in the New Jersey / New York area in 12 oz bottle 6 packs and 40s. I've found 16oz cans as far up as Boston, but for some reason they have more off notes. The price-to-quality ratio is insane. You get a decently flavorful ale for $6.99 a 6 pack.
Ballantine XXX Ale I believe has never stopped being produced. Pabst attempted to revive the Ballantine IPA and Ballantine Burton Ale, but gave up due to poor sales I guess.
Fort George 3-Way, Bale Breaker Leota Mae, and Georgetown Johnny Utah for pounding. Bottle Logic Slow Burn, The Veil Bourbon Barrel Sleeping Forever, and Funktastic Fizz The Kids Are Gone Mead for rating and sipping.
Unpopular opinion but I like to start off with something light like a Mexican lager or session IPA and then absolutely blast myself from orbit with a bourbon barrel aged stout once the food comes along. This year I’m going with a new dark Mexican lager I found at a local market I like and then a special edition Monster’s Park from Modern Times.
My go to is usually Heineken but if I want to spend a little more then it’s a Weihenstephaner which is my favorite beer. But today I settled for some good ol cheap coors banquet.
Sam Adams Summer Ale, Anderson Valley Blood Orange Gose, Boulevard Ginger Lemon Radler, and Citizen Cider Dirty Mayor are my fave sessionable hot summer's day/cookout beer/cider.
Sierra Nevada Summerfest. Haven't seen it around the last few years but I saw a 6 pack and bought it with my other beer for the 4th snd they're all gone now.
It's a hot grilling day. The only beer that works is a hef. I have a selection of hefs I'm burning through right now but I just bought a Widmer Brothers Hef. It's ok but I do really like the German imports even if they are expensive.
On a side note, why are hefs ignored by the microbrewery crowd while simultaneously being the most consumed beer in the world?
Country Boy Halfway Home Pale Ale while prepping and grilling. Country Boy Cliff Jumper IPA with the burgers. An excellent Margarita made by a friend somewhere in the middle. Happy Independence Day!
If I’m pinching pennies, PBR. (Or Lone Star if I have it.)
If I’m spending a little more, the New Mexico standard from Santa Fe brewing.
I don’t really draw a distinction like you, I’ll drink the same light lagers while grilling and eating.
Sierra Nevada Pale Ale is pretty much my go to for everything.
Highlife because they had a 30 pack for the price of 24s and it's mostly better than the other cheap domestics.
I got a 30 rack of high life for $15 at Walmart the other week. No brainer
Just me or has high life really gained popularity lately? It’s become the new go to in my friend group, a lot of bars I visit, and it’s often a top answer on Reddit threads. I don’t remember that being the case until the last 12 months or so
Yeah it tastes good and it’s cheap
And it's a good beer to drink when it's really hot like it has been in much of the country today. I was so sweaty.
Crispy ice cold bottle of the champagne of beers straight from the cooler on a 90° day? Nothing more refreshing than that
Sierra Nevada Summerfest, New England Brewing Facehugger IPA, and a few bottles of Oude Gueze 3 Fonteinen
Serious knower right here
I'm partial to the Supernaut, but anything NEBCO is A++
Coors banquet. Forever and always
You can't go wrong. The price has gone up to a point in some areas that it's become harder to justify for me though. Like $9.99 - $10.99 a 6 pack.
If you use Ibotta, Coors usually has a monthly cash back offer. $3 off a 12 pack.
Tell me more about this magical beer discount spell.
Ibotta is a cash back app. Just need to add the deal, take a picture of your receipt and then you’ll get the cash back. I'm from Colorado, so Coors Banquet is my favorite 🍺
My dad was a Coors guy through and through. I think maybe once or twice I saw him without a Banquet or Silver bullet. I remember my Gramps would bust my Dads balls by calling Coors "dishwater beer" but then my Gramps drank Old Milwaukee. Captain Stardust is so goddamn good. It would be my favorite yellow springs beer…except for the fact that Boat Show exists
This is my go too for today can’t go wrong with a banquet
Narragansett and Yuengling Golden Pilsner
I've discovered Narragansett over the past few years I have lived in Florida ... talk about a great cheap beer.
Inexpensive! Nothing cheap about it!
Dale’s and PBR
Short's Local's Light, Bell's Light Hearted, or my home brewed Czech Dark Lager.
Drinking Locals Light right now. Solid lager.
Where's the party at, I'm a sucker for a dark Czech.
It is damn good too, just took a gold medal in a homebrew competition.
Hey, my friend took 2nd in that competition! Tall skinny nerdy dude, one of my favorite people ever. He works for Griffin Claw, now. Edit: for a cider, were there categories, or was it overall?
I know of whom you speak. 😃
I’ve got Local’s Light as well. Sometimes you can find some pretty good deals on it at places like Meijer or Aldi.
Today the options are: Sierra Nevada Summerfest Pfriem Pilsner Fort George Three Way IPA.
You must live in the PNW
Going with Sol today. Still on my macro Mexican kick.
Highly recommend Pacifico. Love that one. Wish I could find it canned for this weekend
Big fan of macro Mexican beers as well. Specifically during summer time and grilling season. Victoria is my absolute favorite. Harder to find as I need to go to Total Wine for it. But it’s tops in my book. Followed by Pacifico.
Pacifico is my favorite Mexican beer for a hot day.
I was sad I could only find it in bottles but 10$ a six pack still isn't bad
Gansett. It’s 4th of July. We drink what Quint drinks.
Here’s to swimming with bow-legged women. Bought a twelve pack of the 1975 cans yesterday.
I’ll have to get a couple beers in before I start talking about my time in the Navy.
Ever since I moved to Washington the biggest downside has been the lack of access to ‘Gansett, especially Del’s Shandy for the summer months.
Creature comforts tropicalia ipa (Georgia boys know)
This one is perfect.
Yuengling flight is easy sipping and refreshing
As the coals are heating up I like to sit with a nice IPA or even double IPA from one of the many local breweries where I’m from in South Jersey. Have you been to the Kane Brewery? I’m jn North Jersey and love their line up. Been wanting to visit it, curious if it’s worth the ride.

Today's line up is: Genesee Cream Ale (first time I've found it on the shelf in Minnesota) for the macro Victory Prima Pils for the craft lager New Glarus IPA for the craft ale
I wish I could still get prima pils in Texas
That's pretty much an all-star lineup. I always miss Prima Pils when I'm up in New England where it doesn't get distribution.

Can't go wrong with Summer Shandy.
Berkshire Brewing Steel Rail Ale. Forever my favorite beer
I was delighted to try this one recently. One of the few English inspired pale ales still being brewed in America today.
I am an enjoyer of hoppy beer most of all, but that beer truly is perfectly balanced.
You may be up my me. I am in Central MA. Love Berkshire and Steel Rail RULES.
Blind Pig and Pilny are on the menu today.
Those beers can go with any menu imo . . .
Give me some stubby bottles of Coors Diesel around the grill
Weihenstephan Helles, Verlierer ;D
Lager. Yuengling Lager that is. America's oldest is still America's best. Well not really the best but Yuengling was is my baby formula so I still enjoy a few every now and then.
You can’t beat Miller Lite
Pacifico
Staying home to keep the dogs calm. Tonight it’s a mix of Shiners. ¡Orale!, Premium, and Shiner Light. I’ll probably have a bourbon cocktail too.
Same here. Except I'm doing Shiner and Revolver's Blood and Honey
Picked up a couple four packs of Pliny for President. They’ll serve me well this weekend.
Pliny for Prez was particularly good this time around
New Glarus Moon Man, All Day Hazy IPA, Coors Light
I got a bunch of Budweiser and a few killians left
I’m making Spaghetts today. High Life, Campari, lemon juice. Usually it’s made with Aperol but I prefer Campari.
Narragansett
Michelob Ultra is the key to a hot summer day
Great Notion Lite and later Fort George 3-Way 2.0 Hazy DIPA.
Genesee Beer and also the Genesee Cream Ale! Its our special way of honoring my veteran grandfather. The only beers he ever drank.
One if the best beers you can get for the price.
where do you get Ballantine ale? Haven't seen it in years. I used to love that way before the term "craft beer" was even a thing.
It’s in Connecticut as well, but it’s not super common. There’s only one bar and two liquor stores near me that carry it.
Interesting story. They revived it in 2014. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/P._Ballantine_and_Sons_Brewing_Company
Ballantine XXX Ale I believe has never stopped being produced. Pabst attempted to revive the Ballantine IPA and Ballantine Burton Ale, but gave up due to poor sales I guess.
Shiner for the Grilling and Revolver's Blood and Honey for the rest of the evening
