One of the best bengals highlights of all time.

scottb112

It was Christmas Eve. I will never forget that day!

tantan35

I was at that game. It’s the only Bengals game I’ve been to. It was beautiful.

b_ack51

Same. Was there and on the bengals side in first row with my brother. Everytime I see that replay I get to see the few pixels that is us in the background.

camergen

Blacked out locally. It might be the last game I remember having to listen to the radio, with it being in the waning days of the blackout rule. I had to do that so many times back in the day.

bengalfan14to18

I must have been illegally streaming it because I remember watching it

Dirt_McGirt_ODB

One of the best ~~Bengals~~ highlights of all time.

MeRcWith_A_MouTh

Not only was I there, I was about 6 rows up directly in front of him. My Dad took me there for my Christmas gift that year. I'll never forget he went to the restroom 5 minutes before this happened and missed it. He was soooo mad Ha!

JBFRESHSKILLS

I have kind of an opposite story. I was at the immaculate deflection. My dad went to the restroom and came back and we had essentially lost the game. He was mad, but not because he missed it.

MeRcWith_A_MouTh

Ha! Him and the entire stadium. I was watching that on TV, and as soon as it was hit up in the air, I knew Denver was about to win. That one hurt

mammoth-snow-852

Yep, no source. Not surprised. Don’t make claims you can’t back up. ✌️

WhoDey9769

Was also at this game! I remember seeing that ball hang over the players in slow motion. At least back then I didn't much expect them to win so it wasn't as bad as it would be if it happened today.

dadmandoe

Hey, you were pretty close to where my family has had season tickets since the opening of the stadium(my aunt has had them since the mid-80’s). I was fortunate that this happened right in front of me which I’ll never forget as well! Truly a crazy play. Funny little side story, but one week she ended up bringing two friend(she has four seats total and we all buy-in to her under her name) so I got left out to pasture. Kind of was a little perturbed, but it’s whatever shit happens ya know. I end up buying my own ticket about 10 rows up myself(which is a little closer than her seats in row 19) in the opposite northwest end zone basically diagonal from them. The AJ Hail Mary bobbling one-handed catch against the Browns happened right in front of me because of it!

MeRcWith_A_MouTh

That's awesome! They were great seats. Definitely better than my season tickets up in the nose bleeds that I have now. That Hail Mary would have been amazing to see live.

dadmandoe

Yeah, both were *amazing*. Seeing AJ fight through 4 defenders with one hand was heroic. The Simpson flip might be forever the single coolest play ever, though! I remember the collective hush of the crowd for a second after he flipped as we were all processing what had just happened, and then everyone collectively losing their minds at once.

MeRcWith_A_MouTh

It was even crazier seeing it on replay. Seeing it live, I thought the tackle made him flip. Then, when they showed it on the big screen, I think everyone kind of realized at once he actually meant to do the flip. Absolutely crazy

AddictiveArtistry

#1 lesson. Hold your piss til it hurts 🤣

MeRcWith_A_MouTh

Ha! That's basically what I said. Old man had 2 beers and had to run to the bathroom. Damn baby blatter!

AntiCabbage

I know you're talking about the flip, but I watch his flop against Cleveland highlight more often on YouTube hahah. For the uninitiated: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yTRs_p_ZP8s

SholcCTR

I had forgotten that play but I remember it now!! Thank you!

Bobiira

Seeing this as a kid was the first step in making me a Bengals fan!

nillaf4ce

One of the best NFL highlights of all time.

b_tots

Greatest TD of all time

Neonsands

Man, I remember when everyone was in love with Shipley and convinced he’d be a star

patrickw69

He had 600yds as a rookie, then took what I thought was a dirty shot to the knee against the broncos in week 1 or 2 and was done.

RickRossovich

I’ve lived within an hour of Austin almost my whole life. I was PUMPED when we picked him up!

birdmanboardman

Just here for the Shipley comment and did not have to scroll far

Nrcolas37

Mine was Germaine Gresham. First jersey and all. Thought it was pretty cool that he was a big guy that ran routes, only to discover that that's what all TEs do.

ItCompiles_ShipIt

My first jersey as well.

Mysterytonite7

I’ll never forget the 2009 draft. Bengals needed tight end and he was the best in the board despite blowing out his knee the year before. Patriots tried very hard to trade ahead of us but couldn’t. We took him and the pats took Gronk in the 2nd and the rest is horrible memories.

uttermybiscuit

Jermaine*

Niemannnn

Not a Bengal, but thank you for scheduling my yearly rewatch of Mardy Gilyard college highlights

mindpainters

Most of my close friends went to UC and they all were 100% Mardy and Isiah pead were going to be pro bowl level players.

Clutch_Daddy

You got pead on!

mindpainters

Most of my close friends went to UC and they all were 100% Mardy and Isiah pead were going to be pro bowl level players.

noahqueen69

You can say that again

divisionblues

[Stop saying Isaiah Pead!](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hAhd6vAYbRM)

Char10

RIP Slim

Topdog926

Irwin falls into this category for a lot of Bengals fans right now.

Horsefeathers34

I'm on this train right now!

AddictiveArtistry

He's so happy and fun though.

Professional_Swim673

Peter Warrick

Sea_Difficulty8258

I always thought Warrick was good. Just injury prone.

Sea_Difficulty8258

Looking at.his Wikipedia page just made me realize he probably wasn't ever really that good since he didn't get that leg injury until 04. Hmph. Not like our team was any good at all until his best year in 03. But still.

Lidjungle

Warrick was a bad fit for the Bengals. He was a smaller guy who was fast. One of the big reasons a slower than expected 40 time was so concerning with him, is that his frame didn't support him being a deep threat in the NFL. He was more shifty than fast. His first season was the year Bruce Coslet quit in week 3, followed by the unmemorable Dick LeBeau year. The Akili Smith experiment was still ongoing. Smith couldn't make a read, and the rest of the Bengals receivers sucked. Teams just had to play 8 in the box and bracket Warrick. They'd live with Ron Dugans or Craig Yeast catching a ball. Bob "Bland" Bratkowski was our O coordinator. He was a weapon they didn't know how to use that didn't fit our system. By the time he was hitting his stride, the injuries started to catch up with him. He had a very memorable game against the 8-0 Chiefs. I think that if you put him on today's 49er's team... Like a Deebo Samuel type scat back receiver, who knows. But Peter Warrick was drafted into the Bengals "Rock Bottom". The years it got so bad, Mike Brown hired a real football coach instead of a compliant friend. The years he finally started letting Katie take more control. Akili Smith, Scott Mitchell, Neil O'Donnell and Jon Kitna were his QB's. Smith had 5 TD's and 13 INTs in his career. To say he sucked was an understatement. Warrick was a better player than his numbers suggest.

Just1BeforeIdie

Fucking Ron Dugans. Legit forgot about him. As a Noles fan, I love Peter Warrick. You are so right about the whole fit/situation he had here. That punt return against the chiefs allows him in the all time Bengals highlights though.

fordprecept

He had a tendency to run backwards too much to try to create something instead of taking the yards available. Imagine him on a team with prime Carson Palmer or with Joe Burrow.

Mastodon9

Oh god... Bob Bratkowski... How in the hell did he last here as long as he did???

Lidjungle

If I never see another HB draw on 3rd and 8, I can die a happy man.

Mastodon9

But they'll never expect it!!!!

warthog0869

Could I interest you in a shovel pass in the same situation instead?

BrianThatDude

Yeah Warrick only had one good season for us iirc (and even that was like an average Tyler Boyd season) but I bet in today's NFL he'd have been pretty useful.

TraditionalCable9487

The punt return against the undefeated Chiefs was ALL TIME.

divisionblues

Got to watch that in person from the upper level in the endzone he returned it to. If it wasn't for the recent playoff success, it's easily my favorite Bengals memory ever. Plus Chad talking shit the whole week and then we backed it up... awesome.

paternal_sugarcane

Still have my Warrick jersey.

ItCompiles_ShipIt

Watched him try to catch a punt at the goal line in Indianapolis. He muffed it. Never liked Warrick.

TrickViolinist9091

all these comments are absolutely what it means to be a bengal this is great

Lquid55

Sanu

peppercola666

“SANUUUUUUUUUU”

lpisme

Sanu Canoe! It's throwback Thursday baby.

Paulwall0623

Them big pillow hands!!

Responsible-Lemon257

Dane Sanzenbacher out of college

camergen

OSU bias wouldn’t be the first or last time to happen on this team.

BuckeyeLeaves

I still believe he got a bad break. All the guy did was catch first downs.

mburner0001

Laveranues Coles was the reason I became a Bengals fan!

Shamshamgigoli

Mine was The Squirrel.

Mysterytonite7

Really liked Kelly Washington and he was a very solid WR3 but whenever an injury happens with the 1/2 wr her could never strip up into that role. He was what he was.

jordansolis

Auden Tate

vkp1984

Darnay Scott

tonesloe

Darney and Carl Pickens! We are finally gonna break the losing cycle now boys!

volrjr4

I had such high hopes for Quan Cosby

remziz4

Kelley Washington... where art thou?

No-Cardiologist-5255

Mine was tab perry

Mysterytonite7

Was at the Cleveland game Perry got hurt on the kickoff return at the end of the game, very freak play. That was week 2 of the 06’ season, the same game pollack broke his next trying to tackle Reuben droughns.

RadBaron19

I thought Andrew Hawkins was great

Not_Pablo_Sanchez

Loved him on the team. He was pretty solid with Cleveland for a bit too. Definitely an ideal depth receiver

Select-Apartment-613

Possibly the coolest play of all time. Stuck the fuckin landing

WhodeyJen

Always SANU

Horsefeathers34

Greatest QB in Bengals history.

WhodeyJen

Absolutely. FLEA FLICKER. Dude was swiss army knife. Could do anything!!

Mysterytonite7

Sanu like Kelly Washington a very good wr3 but could never fill the shoes of wr2

Ill-Transition-1580

andre caldwell...lmao

tjrad815

I didn't realize Caldwell had any fans

Just1BeforeIdie

Desean Jackson went 3 picks later. SMH. Pierre Garcon went in the 6th. Amendola went undrafted. Caldwell in the Third.

Daltoz69

TJ Houzamanzadah or however it was spelt

LastRuneUser

TJ was legit. He was always a WR2 coming out of college and exceeded that in the league have 6 straight seasons of over 900 yards with at least 70 receptions. Hard to call anyone who makes a pro bowl as the second receiving option mediocre lol

djsassan

Houshmanzadeh

Daltoz69

Thanks

ChaosMage175

My first Bengals jersey. Still have it and wear it proudly

OwynFromOblivion

The fact I instantly felt defensive when I read that says you're probably right.

Daltoz69

I mean don’t get me wrong he had a solid, respectable career.

OwynFromOblivion

Nah I meant when I was a kid I thought Housh was on the same level as Ocho when in reality he was just a solid WR2. He did have a damn good career as a 7th round receiver though and not a lot of guys can say that. I can only think of Edelman and Colston doing better and both of them had years as the primary options for two of the greatest QBs of all time.

Daltoz69

I got ya now. Yeah I totally feel ya there

DaInfamousCid

TJ Whosyomama

bambammr7gram

Peter Warrick for me

TimberTate

Matt Schobel (TE, not WR) for me. Have his game-worn jersey and everything!

patrickw69

Always hoped he'd turn that corner and be a really good te. One of my favorite bengal moments was him catching a td from Kitna in 03 in pittsburgh to beat the steelers felt so good at the time.

Mysterytonite7

I remember that long td he had down the seam in Dallas Vs the cowboys. That was a great play. Also the game winning td he caught in Pittsburgh vs the Steelers in 01’ if I’m not mistaken .

burl_haggard

Here’s one for the old schoolers…Jeff Query. Top ten on the all time mullet list

AnComApeMC69

He did do an entire front flip into the endzone for a TD creating one of the NFL’s greatest highlights of all time. It’s understandable that a 9 year old would think Simpson is going to be “that guy” at WR.

AtlanteanLord

That flip is the earliest memory of the Bengals I have, he’ll always be special to me

Shortyrawk

Unforgettable. The fact that he actually landed it (and got a 10 from the W German judge) was 🤯

runawayhopeless

Peter Warrick….

SaltyFall

Mohammad Sanu for me!!!

truth34

No love for 3rd down machine Brian Leonard. Absolute dawg.

debotehzombie

My dumbass 9-year-old self literally was more excited for Peter Warrick than Ocho and Housh. Idiot.

NoTie2370

David Dunn

ItCompiles_ShipIt

Was at the game when he ran the kickoff back against FTS right before half time. I want to say it was in 96.

bfofree

For me it wasn’t a WR but it was Jeff George and Deltha O’Neal

roach8101

I really liked Cody Core and Josh Malone. I thought Josh Malone would be a steel . I hoped those guys would replace Sanu and Jones. Spoiler alert they didn't.

Mysterytonite7

Core 6th rounder out of Kansas state and Malone 4th rounder out of Tennessee?

roach8101

Read this in Jerry Seinfeld’s voice. “I saw flashes of greatness in the preseason……FLASHES OF GREATNESS”

slythe27

Kevin Walter gang rise up

Glum-Actuary

Scrolled way too far to see this! He was the background on my desktop for a couple years!

Dkswaggg

Jordan Shipley for me. Convinced I have the only remaining Shipley jersey

MoonPsycho1613

Jerome Simpson owes me a hot dog from the conssession stand behind section 139

fistbumpminis

Mannnn I remember watching Tyrone Prothro all season when he was killing it at Alabama. And My dad and I were Ohio State fans. That dude was the real deal. And then THAT injury happened. Sad times for football, that was.

hunterdaginger

Jordan Shipley

JoePurrow

Auden Tate, you still turned into a superstar in my heart

vladmir4539

John Ross

MyLife4Aiur14

No it says watch him play. After being drafted he wasn't even good enough for that.

vladmir4539

2019 week 1 vs Seahawks

Skyrimosity

I remember a preseason game (I think in year 2 or 3) he had one crazy play that convinced me to pick him up for my fantasy team. Didn’t last on my team long

nivekreduls1

Was it TJ Houshmandzadeh for anyone else?

ColonelBourbon

Don't know if he was mediocre though. He was a good pass catcher

LastRuneUser

Nah TJ was legit for what we drafted him for. If Jermaine Burton gives similar production for us thats what we want from the slot position

Bearcatsean

David Verser

SkirtswithPOCKETSplz

Not a boy but I thought Mark Carrier was the best WR ever when I was young.

Gergastengas

Met him at an autograph signing, he was a really nice guy!

HailYurii

To be fair I think Marvin held him back a lot.

Livid-Refrigerator78

Simpson knows several ways to get high

munistadium

Was his first name prounouced like Jeremy?

patrickw69

Te sean brewer whats cooler than a 3rd round TE that smokes a pack a day

Horsefeathers34

Shout out to my brother and his love of Herman Moore!

shake1010

Tim McGee and Eddie Brown!!

jamarchasinalombardi

Just cant relate. Steve Largent was anything but mediocre. Warrick would fit the bill but I was way past 9 by then.

Boilers08

Bennie Brazzell...

Lanky-Point7709

AUDEN TATE HAD ALL THE TOOLS, MAN!!!

DaInfamousCid

I wrote a story in 2nd grade about why I think there should be a statue of TJ Housmanzadeh, or however it's spelt, at my school. I live in PA.

MDawg74

Can’t relate. I watched Andre Reed and James Lofton on the same team.

ProzacNathan

Willie Green - Detroit Lions

warthog0869

Bennie "The Gazelle" Brazell, which also clues you in to me being very, very old.

AlaskanBengalChic

He stuck the landing. I will always remember that.

bionicjoe

You want to hear something sad? I got Cris Collinsworth.

Fresh_Indication_243

https://i.redd.it/mzj6dofcak1d1.gif

Mysterytonite7

Lol Simpson and Caldwell were both hot trash. Two of the most disappointing draft picks in the Lewis era

ColonelBourbon

Chris Collingsworth was interesting at least

skallywag126

Carl Pickens…

CosbySweaters1992

Pickens wasn’t mediocre at all. Offensive Rookie of the Year (weak year for it but still) and 2x All-Pro. He had a 3 year run of over 3,500 receiving yards and 40 TDs.

Livid-Refrigerator78

Pickens was good
