The Summerset Isles are currently being developed by the project "Alinor: The Eternal Paradise" under the Nirn Uncharted Umbrella. The team is currently on an hiatus though. So far, no Akavir project has sprung up. If one's out there, they are more than welcome to apply to join the Beyond Skyrim umbrella. However, given the large scale of an Akavir project and the... rather polarizing opinions regarding it, it's rather unlikely for an Akavir project to join Beyond Skyrim in the forseeable future.

IronDBZ

>rather polarizing opinions regarding it What do you mean my Snake Vampire Empress Waifu said no humans allowed on the continent? I'm wearing an amulet of Mara for nothing?

Hendrus01

For starters, I'd be great if people could come to a consensus on how much snake the Tsaesci actually are. You'd be surprised at how heated discussions regarding the Tsaesci and the Akaviri in general get. Which is why I personally am trying to stay as far away from that accursed continent as possible. And yes, the irony of an Atmora dev not wanting to have to deal with another continent is not lost in me

IronDBZ

>Atmora dev not wanting to have to deal with another continent is not lost in me Racism in the Good Old Woods, for shame. >For starters, I'd be great if people could come to a consensus on how much snake the Tsaesci actually are. This just seems like a strange hill for any Elder Scrolls fandom to fight over. Life in Elder Scrolls is so in-credibly fungible, that it's almost strange that it's not our first instinct to just say the answer is "Yes". If Khajit are able to be everything under the Moon with types and subtypes, if Daedra can be shaped by magic into weapons and chairs, if eating someone's soul can give you their talents, then why can't the Snake people change their scales like Satakal. Maybe it's my weird writer brain, but my first idea when I think of the Tsaesci is how to use that ambiguity to do some interesting world building. >!They rule Akavir, they have culture, they have art. Why not add in social stratification in, with the different body types conforming to the life stages/social ranks/seniority of the Tsaesci. !< >! Or even more strangely, tie it to the mindset and outlook of the individual Tsaesci. They could change in form from one season of their life to the next. True Serpents in one era of life, man-like in another, and so on. The face of the conqueror is not the same face as the devourers is not the same face as the ruler, and so on.!< >!Like, arguing about whether they're shapeshifters or not is a fight for limitations. !< ***Why can't we have it all, and make it weird while we do it?***

Cyberwolfdelta9

Should try posting this in TESlore Reddit

IronDBZ

Thinking about it.

Joaoseinha

I mean, truth be told there's no ambiguity at all when it comes to how snake the Tsaesci are. We know they're bipedal humans as seen in both Oblivion and ESO. They could have some snake features but for the most part they're pretty humanoid looking. Now, whether there's other varieties that are more snake-like is a concept I do hope they go for (since it's more interesting), but I think people complain because they want ES lore to go for the more interesting directions rather than the more grounded ones. It's the same reason people complain a lot about Summerset's depiction.

trancybrat

“it’d be great if people could come to a consensus…” when has a subject you could say this about EVER had a consensus lmfao

Clunt-Baby

What exactly happens when a new team joins BS? Is it just a formality or is there significant collaboration?

Prof_Dragonslayer

I'll quote the Beyond Skyrim charter: >Until further notice, the creation of new Beyond Skyrim projects by existing team members are held under a moratorium, to prevent the dilution of manpower across too many projects. This moratorium may later be removed at the discretion of the Council of Team Leads, if it is decided that the new project would not significantly detract from the progress of the already-existing projects (taking into account all the circumstances, including the size and difficulty of the proposed new project and amount of outside recruitment it has attracted). External teams, who come to Beyond Skyrim with a credible proposal to start a project in an area of Tamriel not currently being worked on, can be approved as an official Beyond Skyrim team by a unanimous vote of the Council of Team Leads. A new project is unlikely to happen until at least one of the full provinces releases unless an outside project with enough proof of existing work, a credible plan and enough members across the different disceplines (who are not already members of other Beyond Skyrim projects). All Beyond Skyrim projects are structually independent but share the common assets and collobarate on lore. Beyond Skyrim Assets is a shared master mod that is currently downloadable on the Bruma download page but will get moved to its own Nexus page once another project releases. It includes mostly 3D assets and scripts/mechanics that are used by multiple projects. This way we can have for example ships from all provinces in our ports. There's also colloboration on lore so it all matches. Earlier today, I saw some discussion one of our Cyrodiil writers had with an BS Argonia writer about the backstory of an Argonian character in Anvil. These things happen a lot.

Senturos

I only found out about alinor 3 days ago... Looked on their page and there's been nothing since 2021... Think the project has been canned. That's awhile taking a break. Pitty because that's the last country on the BaS list mow

Tatem1961

Why's the Alinor team on hiatus?

Hendrus01

It was due to the prorities of the leads shifted. If memory serves right, Alinor had a lot of activity during the pandemic, but both leads and members shifted to other projects or responsibilities afterwards.

KingdomOfPoland

Nirn Uncharted had a Alinor project, but they're taking a break for as far as I know, an undefined amount of time. There have been a few Akavir mods, but idk of anything being developed rn, i think something may have released recently when I looked briefly on the Nexus about a week back but idk. Nirn Uncharted has a few other mods that will add the islands between Tamriel and Akavir, but Cathnoquey was cancelled while the other one is still in development.

robcbwilson1

The Alinor project is currently on hiatus. There is only one lead left on the project (which is me). The current plan is that the project will stay as it is now until Cyrodiil completes. At that time, I will speak to people who have already expressed an interest in leading the project about bringing it back to life. The Alinor project is not completely dead in any case as Valenwood in particular needs lore and assets from Alinor. We are currently working on the Dominion Towers and walls (we will make a Valenwood variant but this means they will be 90% done for Alinor as well) as well as a large number of clutter items that we will need. A cross province Dominion lore Discord server has also been set up to resolve any Dominion lore issues the Beyond Skyrim team may have. So, Alinor although not currently active is progressing albeit slowly.

Entertainer_Narrow

Good to see it not being dead, Besides High rock(medieval fantasy let's go) Alinor is the place I would love to see in VR, the last bastion of high fantasy! Keep at it my man!

robcbwilson1

Thanks :)

Alert-Lie-7937

Thanks

KingdomOfPoland

yes there was an Akavir mod, Akavir Curse of the Immortals 2.0, but its in Russian so you'll have to use the English translation mod for it if you want to play it.

Cyberwolfdelta9

It also got onto xbox Pre Bethesda update in the WIP section

StreetTransition

It’s very good in terms of quest design imo, though the old version was quite buggy. Wouldnt have wanted to play it on xbox without access to the console but very much enjoyed playing it. Perhaps 2.0 has taken care of a lot of the bugs seeing as the old version was released years ago.

lordofthegeckos

I don't think there's anything being developed for Akavir. Not sure about Summerset Isles, but there is a Thras project in development.

robcbwilson1

There is a Thras project, although it is no longer part of Beyond Skyrim.

DwarfLord420

Akavir would be cool to see,but there are a multitude of complexities with a project like that. First one that comes to mind:The Races of Akavir. It's canonically confirmed that we have Snakefolk,Monkeyfolk,Tigerfolk and Snow Demons. There's also snippets of lore suggesting Dogfolk and Ratfolk. So it would stand to reason that the people Akavir are based on the Chinese zodiac. Next would be creatures. And if you've ever delved into Asian mythology, there could be some really weird and incredibly cool monsters in Akavir.

Senturos

All countries take 2 inspirations counties Empire, Rome and Greece Skyrim being Vikings and slightly english with solitude Akavi I know nothing about but my take is Japan and China. But we'll see what Beth does when the day comes. They might even add in a human race that looks asain. Since that's the only race that Tamriel is missing

DwarfLord420

Well if we want to actually discuss the nitty-gritty of Akavir,Yes you are correct that most elder scrolls countries are a fusion 2 different cultures. From what I've read it's more than just China and Japan. For example the Tang Mo have elements of Vietnamese culture with Northern Mountain Chinese (Remember China is Very Culturally diverse depending on region) Where as The Ka Po'Tun are more a combination of Imperial Korean and Cambodian. I personally don't think Bethesda will ever make game set in Akavir sadly. But for mod projects such as this, the possibilities are near endless.

Senturos

Well we don't even know what the place looks like. That be like making a BS project before ESO. We know absolutely bugger all unless it's written by the dude who wrote the elder scrolls. And Beth retconns alot of his gear. Fine example cyrodill being a jungle, they changed it because the tech for oblivion couldn't handle an open world jungle. He'll that new ESO Daedric prince coming seems to be fixing up the retcon with jungles appearing out of nowhere due to this forgotten prince coming back

DwarfLord420

>We know absolutely bugger We do have some idea of what Tsaesci territory does look like as Seeing a fair description is given in [Report: Disaster at Ionith.](https://en.m.uesp.net/wiki/Lore:Report:_Disaster_at_Ionith) Other than that it's a let your imagination run wild type scenario.

Senturos

Then you spend years making it for bethisda to go go and do it on you 😭. Reminds me of that poor bastard who did solstiem on the le nexus before Dragonborn

DwarfLord420

That's the risk of large scale modding projects. Like I said though Bethesda [Will Never Go To Akavir.](https://gamerant.com/skyrim-bethesda-games-elder-scrolls-akavir-humans-monsters/#:~:text=Skyrim%20is%20Proof%20That%20Akavir%20Will%20Never%20Appear%20in%20a%20Future%20Bethesda%20Game,-By%20Joshua%20Duckworth&text=There%20may%20be%20some%20appeal,popularity%20and%20success%20of%20Skyrim.) As for Oblivion era technology not allowing a Jungled Cyrodiil,[This Mod Says Otherwise](https://youtu.be/n81aE9kS95M)

Senturos

It's a mod yes, for PC... Remember Beth first concept is to make the game for consoles to play on... Back then with a jungle would have been 12fps for a PS or Xbox player

DwarfLord420

Forgive me,I remember the Days of Daggerfall (Which is still PC Only) and Morrowind (Which came to xbox as an afterthought.) So I'm still in that head space.

Senturos

I saw that mod.... Dude oblivion wouldn't even open on consoles with that mod 😂 They had to change it so they could make a game. Many games have done jungles before then, but not open world. That's why even BS Vallenwood is going to be rough on the fps since it's got massive tree's and shit tons of them. Maybe even blackmash is going to suffer from this too. Will need a beefy rig, even the Skyrim has its own limits

YucciPP

What is high rock then?

Senturos

What you mean? Highrock is in the 3 kingdoms. Highrock, hammerfell and the orcs home

YucciPP

I mean I was just wondering what countries high rock was based on

Senturos

France and England mediaeval. Since the Bretons have french names. Both their cultures are very alike... So it can plend as 1

Joaoseinha

Not necessarily 2, almost every race and province takes inspiration from a lot of different places. Empire is split into Niben and Colovia cultures (at least in lore, looking at you Oblivion), where Niben is definitely just straight up Roman (with some Japanese influence from the Akaviri), but Colovians are more akin to Slavic or Iberian cultures. Skyrim are very Scandinavian but their drinking culture seems very Germanic, and the Imperial influence obviously turns it towards Roman as well. But there's some races that are faaaaar harder to pinpoint influences for. Argonians are a weird mix of Mesoamerican cultures with Aztec architecture and a role akin to Subsaharan Africans. Dunmer have Turkic, Persian, Indian and even Egyptian influences. Khajiit take influence from India, Romani and Arab cultures. Even Bretons can be tricky, when you start looking at Reachmen's names like Madanach which clearly have Celtic roots.

No_Bath_6401

I wish the slavic-based culture in TES universe

DwarfLord420

Yeah. Long ago when the races of tamriel were being designed,The Nords were supposed to have some influence taken from Slavic culture. But instead they opted to make them a mix of Celtic and Scandinavian. Rather than the original concept(mind you this goes to when Arena was first being designed) a combination of Slavic and Scandinavian. Which in my opinion would have been far more interesting.

nerdcoleture

There is already a Summerset Isle mod. It's not completely lore-friendly (and there is a small chunk of it missing), but I'm using it purely as a placeholder mod to tie me over until Alinor (if and when) it gets complete. There is already a mod that takes you to the southern tip of Akavir. I think it is still in active development for the most part, since the devs for a while took it off the Nexus to make improvements. I have the current English translation, since the original is in Russian, but there is a bug I found that makes the game crash if you try to access the books in your inventory (since the mod itself adds a book), so I am going to wait and see if they make any patches or if the devs themselves upload an English version. I even stumbled upon a Pyandonea mod. It's not the /best/, as the quests are kinda stale, the voice acting is kinda meh, and the graphics and assets could've been better, but for a mod author's first attempt at modding, I think it's pretty good (way better than anything I'd be able to do). Especially since I didn't find anything that crashed the game. I think a Pyandonea mod would be a cool one for a BS team to take on (plus it's way smaller than Akavir), but for now, I'm just excited for the projects that have been announced and can't wait until they come to fruition.
