Tumbleweed Stargazer? Seems to be similar criteria to what you are looking for - slightly on the pricier side though.

masterbailer

Maybe also an Otso Fenrir?

fien21

oh damn thats kind of a dream bike, think the price would be prohibitive though - especially with import duties to the uk

MidwestPow

The cotic cascade and pipedream A.L.I.C.E. are similar to the stargazer and are UK companies

djolk

Panorama Taiga exp is also very similar to these bikes.

feel like this is probably the answer, although it doesnt clear 29 x 2.1, 650 x 2.4 could do the job

for sure, its almost too much bike for me though. im looking for that sweet spot between gravel bike and heavy duty drop bar mtb which is why the sutra felt like such a great fit.

everydayiscyclingday

The Fairlight Faran could be what you’re after, and it’s a uk company. Tire clearance might be slightly less than what you’re looking for, but you should check it out.

I love how they have two lines of sizes for each model, a less and a more aggressive position. I dont think I’ve seen anyone else do that.

have you run it with 650x2.4? curious how that looks/feels

amarks563

The All-City Gorilla Monsoon is close, stock build is 650b x 2.4 but 700c clearance is a bit limited. A Surly Bridge Club is surprisingly close geometry-wise, but you'd need to build it from the frame for a drop-bar config (plenty of people have done it, though). The Black Mountain Cycles La Cabra is kind of between the Sutra and the Sutra LTD but as Black Mountain is one guy in California I have no idea what the import situation to the UK is like.

No-Feeling507

Check out the spa cycles elan series if you’re in the U.K.

D3tsunami

Any reason you don’t want a soma wolverine? Trying to triangulate what differences I can tell between the two models and coming up empty. Hard to find a complete I guess?

fien21

thats honestly a pretty great option which ive looked at, but limited to 700 x 45mm or 650 x 2.1 i think. Would prefer something that runs 700 x 2.2 or 2.3.

D3tsunami

Got it. Yeah I’m running 650x55 on mine and it’s kinda an awkward in between, not super plush nor nimble. Might just go back to 42 slicks. But yer not getting fat meats on there

sirkeeferinoxiv

Soma has the Jawbone that can fit 29x2.25

The attached image is a size large with 2.5" tires. For what it's worth, I went with the flat bar version because I enjoy underbiking more on a flat bar bike.

Since you’re in the UK have a look at the Sonder Santiago. I have the Camino which I love.

Yourgrandmasskillet

I have a 2019 sutra ltd and it’s a beast. Put 700 x 50 Schwalbe almotions and some fenders for city attack mode and a more upright stem. Now it just eats up the miles with ease. Those big smooth tires eat every pothole, while allowing you to explore still. Interestingly the bike rides great loaded up with bags with racks on the front or rear.

fien21

sell it to me! lol

Yourgrandmasskillet

It’s a 52 so probably a little small for you. I love the color (purple or green depending on the light) but the year after (2020) might be the best model. Little more tire clearance and they fixed the issue with the weird spacing for the eyelets on the fork.

fien21

ah yeah the 2020 earth grey one looks so great

everydayiscyclingday

I’m pretty sure that the Sutra touring called the SE and the LTD were identical frames back when they had straight head tubes.

fien21

im not sure, think theyre the same geometry wise but different dropouts, bottom bracket standards and tyre clearance. ltd had more space and 1x mtb bb to make room for the bigger tyres

everydayiscyclingday

I don’t think you’re right about that, but I’m not sure. Could be worth looking into if the touring/SE version is available to you.

Bonniepark

Keep an eye out for a used Specialized AWOL. Almost identical geo. Specialized black sheep bike that didn’t last long but it should have.
