Some actors and actresses require in their contracts NOT to ride horses. Christopher Walken for instance, after falling from a horse.
After Reeve's accident it makes sense
Reeve's horse accident, my understanding was in his hobby not at work. I don't think other actors based their own acting and horse riding prohibitions on Christopher Reeves, it is just a known risk for actors. Same is true of motorcycle scenes, bicycle, heights etc. Stunt work
That's crazy, imagine that in any other job. Yeah sorry boss I don't do excel, had a bad experience with it one time so I only use word now. Like bruh you are making it 10x harder for everyone, learn to be nice to a freaking horse.
Yeah, no. Horrible comparison
Using excel can't give you serious or even permanent injuries that could damage or end your career. And if you have a major role in a movie and you are injured during production, *that's* what's going to make things harder for everyone. It's actually better for the production for the major actors to *not* be at risk of forcing a replacement or delaying filming. Stunt people exist for a reason
In addition, if the actor is uncomfortable during filming, it shows in the final product.
Nobody will notice how happy you were when creating that spreadsheet.
In my experience there's very little risk if the horse and rider are trained and comfortable together, that takes a lot of time and effort sure but that's my whole point. Not that excel can hurt you but that it's an acquired skill to be efficient with it. Seems like a copout with an easy "I don't want to get bucked off" when in reality it's as simple and respecting the animal, if it feels comfortable it won't buck you off.
Not professionally like they would have to, but my entire point is that I know it's not easy and can be dangerous but that comes with the job. Don't take a role that involves horse riding if you can't ride a friggin horse, should be that simple.
Christopher Reeves was an experienced rider, and he was still bucked off and paralyzed.
My grandma has raised horses since she was a kid, has won tons of awards, and it only took one horse to buck her off and shatter her bones.
It's not about your ability to ride. Accidents happen, especially when involving animals that react to stressful situations, even more so for horses because they are incredibly finicky creatures.
Right I really need to see it, bc her posture is terrible lol. Looks odd. Unless the point of the scene is that she’s never been on a horse even once and so she’s a terrible rider lol
Why not just rent another horse? They already have all these horses was it really that much cheaper to buy whatever this contraption is then rent another actual horse?
Could be that they needed the lead's blocking and positioning to be very precise for the framing, and the background actors exact places weren't that important, or the actor couldn't ride a horse.
That one is not her fault, those stirrups are way too long for her, she's reaching with her toe down just to try to keep a toe in but they still bounce away from her. That would never work for a real horse. It would be better if they adjusted the stirrups closer to her foot so she could put her feet in and take some of the weight off her butt, then she'd have more shock absorption from all that bounce and she'd look better controlled in the saddle.
That would be fine if the horse magically knew what to do despite your lack of ability to ride but it does not work like that. Horses are not that easy to operate, especially if you need them to look like they are running wildly but keep right in the exact needed camera angles. If you just need one to mope along like a lazy bum, that's easier, you just get a lazy sleepy horse, but this is not that kind of scene.
This is for a closeup shot but his head sticks up by the horses ass. They can frame out the cart but the dude sticks up higher and blocks things behind him
That little horse car contraption looks almost more dangerous than a real horse. I'd rather be on a dirt bike that I can control rather than a horse. But, look how she is just flailing around compared to the horse riders who are able to sync with the horse's natural movements.
What do you do for a living? “Well I was driving a horse car because this wizard in the next Harry Potter movie was scared of horses. It’s like that but different everyday.”
So dad for school I have to write what you do for a living
Well son I dress up as sanic, drive arse first a dummy horse whilst someone shouts at me what to do to make someone else famous
What’s bizarre are about it? Do we really still expect these films to be genuine while making them. Something is going to be fake. It’s bizarre to think otherwise
Did anyone else think this was a real horse at first? You know how they have little contraptions for dogs that lose their legs? I thought that was what was happening here. Freaked me right out.

One of those Christophers isn’t Walken
Lol. Not among the living anymore either.
Godadamn bogza23,, I’m not among the living anymore! ⚰️
Geezus… that’s worth a slow clap! 👏
The stars really had to align for this joke to work
He goes by Chris now
#Boom. Enough internet for today.
In fairness Reeve was a keen equestrian, he wasn't injured in anything related to the movie industry, he was competing in a show.
It's not in fairness....just say boldy---correction----Reeves got injured doing something he loved and it was in his off time.
Reeve's horse accident, my understanding was in his hobby not at work. I don't think other actors based their own acting and horse riding prohibitions on Christopher Reeves, it is just a known risk for actors. Same is true of motorcycle scenes, bicycle, heights etc. Stunt work
So he was on a fake horse for Sleepy Hollow?
Mechanical, yeah
What happened to reeves?
Fell of a horse, was left paralyzed for life. Killed his career.
700 on the horses, when we fixin' to leave But I don't fuck with horses, since Christopher Reeves
Christopher Sittin doesn't have quite the same ring to it lmao!!!
Oh is that why? I was so confused why not ride a real horse.
That's crazy, imagine that in any other job. Yeah sorry boss I don't do excel, had a bad experience with it one time so I only use word now. Like bruh you are making it 10x harder for everyone, learn to be nice to a freaking horse.

Fair enough
What’s the opposite of Christopher Walken?
They got Sonic piloting that mf, these are some hard times.
Sonic swerving ![gif](giphy|l0MYQ2rekCnAE0CQg)
So he steers to the left but the car actually goes right. Is that part of the show or did they just royally screw that up?
I was wondering why this looked so wrong lol. Thought it was just the greenscreen
My first thought was "why a teletubby?"
green screen but blue
Sanic
![gif](giphy|HfJdu4HABDU3e)
Damn you. He’s got two empty halves of a coconut and he’s banging them together!
How would a coconut find its way to England hmm?
He could grip it by the husk!
A swallow could of brought it
An African or European swallow?
Oh yeah an african swallow maybe but not a european swallow thats my point
Dafuq lol
They cut off that horse's legs just to make a movie?! That's worse than the horse head in The Godfather.
Still canters well
Horse had its legs cut off from a skin infection. He’s always the first one hired on set because he represents a diversity quota of quadriplegics.
This guy understands hiring.
Anyone have the final scene for comparison?
Right I really need to see it, bc her posture is terrible lol. Looks odd. Unless the point of the scene is that she’s never been on a horse even once and so she’s a terrible rider lol
Would be nice
The actual horses: ...is this what happens if you're not good?
Any context?
On why they won’t use an actual horse? I think that’s the main actor and they don’t want to put it at risk
it's a guy in blue driving a horse vehicle and internet has found it to be funny
I am not the internet but it does get funnier the more you watch it.
That is a one natural looking horse
One out of five horses is not a dentist
I wonder if the real horses where freaking over the bot.
Bet you they thought twice before causing problems on set again
Why not just rent another horse? They already have all these horses was it really that much cheaper to buy whatever this contraption is then rent another actual horse?

From the way she uses her hands, the actor /cannot/ ride a horse.
Not just her hands 😂😂 She looks like she’s both drunk and on cocaine, with the way she rides
Happy cake day Seen a few peeps with cake days today how Strange
Actor may not be able to ride a horse?
Probably not, they don’t have their feet in the stirrups,or maybe its not safe to have your feet near the lower mechanisms.
They lose a stirrup halfway through the shot. A sure sign they're not very good at riding.
That one is not her fault, those stirrups are way too long for her, she's reaching with her toe down just to try to keep a toe in but they still bounce away from her. He’s an actor, he just has to act like he can ride a horse

You son of a…
Could be insurance/liability reasons. Cost too much money/risk to put them on a real horse.
Money went bye bye
Renting this thing is a hell of a lot cheaper than having your main cast fall off a horse and pausing production for weeks
the other horses watching in utter confusion and horror. Must be r/uncannyvalley for them
100% They're clearly in some way perturbed by it!
What do you think the other horses think?
They are worried it will beat them to the oats. Source: my horses.
Can I rent this vehicle somewhere?
Could they not get a fourth horse?
Why is the "driver" wearing a blue suit since he's close to the cart thing (which will be removed in post anyway)?
he's the same colour as the blue background which will be edited later
But why not also the cart?
i guess the cart is low enough not to get accidentally caught in the frame of the camera!
That makes a lot of sense! thx!
The cart is cool, we keep it!
That's for the extra tall blue ray special edition release!
Yeah, the scene is probably better with the cart haha
Probably so he is mostly one color. Makes him easier to remove.
it’s so that if he stands up or anything it can be easily removed bc of how visible his blue would be in shot against grass as opposed to green
Yes, but why not paint the cart blue as well?
This is for a closeup shot but his head sticks up by the horses ass. They can frame out the cart but the dude sticks up higher and blocks things behind him
Good point! Thanks!
ah that's how green screen (blue screen works). He's the operator for the actor---yes he's gone in post production.
Horse stops, but the rider is still riding *
Is the horse ok? He looks like he is hurting.
That little horse car contraption looks almost more dangerous than a real horse. I'd rather be on a dirt bike that I can control rather than a horse. But, look how she is just flailing around compared to the horse riders who are able to sync with the horse's natural movements.
That looks like it would hurt
Do the live horses think it’s a real horse?
I’d imagine they’d rather use this over a real horse to keep the leads safe from harm. Don’t forget about Superman.
How many horse power is that thing?
Is this outlander?
So, guy in blue, whatta you wanna be when you grow up? Movie Fake Horse Cart Driver.
Where can I get one of those?! Need a Mechanical Bull too!
They couldn’t afford 4 horses?? 😂
So nice of them to let amputee horses work
Was that from Willow?
It would be cheaper, more authentic, more artistic and more liked if they just use a real horse in a real location in the woods.
You clearly have never tried to light a face in the woods. Photography in the woods is gorgeous and ridiculously challenging
What do you do for a living? “Well I was driving a horse car because this wizard in the next Harry Potter movie was scared of horses. It’s like that but different everyday.”
Horses aren't much smarter than deer. Good call.
Why is this funny
Hey guys look I can drift a horse, I can also make it do a burnout
Pretty funny. Even funnier to me is that some peope seem to think that it because of a lack of available horses.
So dad for school I have to write what you do for a living Well son I dress up as sanic, drive arse first a dummy horse whilst someone shouts at me what to do to make someone else famous
What’s bizarre are about it? Do we really still expect these films to be genuine while making them. Something is going to be fake. It’s bizarre to think otherwise
What film is this for?
Might be outlander
Might be outlander lol nvm no it’s not
this seems harder to ride than a horse
Confused why the guy is wearing all blue. He wouldn't be in the shot anyway. So there won't be a need for him to wear that.
Does this hurt the horse?
@u/savevideo
Lol
Did anyone else think this was a real horse at first? You know how they have little contraptions for dogs that lose their legs? I thought that was what was happening here. Freaked me right out.
Any one got a pound it’s just ran out lol 😂
