car batteries are for the ocean, silly

darthjerbear

WE GOTTA CHARGE THE ELECTRIC EELS GRU!

23x3

Mmmmm I love the smell of wet trash.

XenoHugging

In the morning… smells like victory.

Eastern-Fun1842

What a terrible way to talk bout yur mum

-WARisTHEanswer-

but electric eels are only found in fresh water not salt water..

LordTakeda2901

Thats because not enough people throw batteries into the ocean to charge them, duh, pay attention dude

SphinctrTicklr

ah nah brah it's because they're not throwing them in the rivers!

Bnhrdnthat

Due to corrosion?

Nickleeham

Can’t burn the ocean. Duh.

TheMontrealKid

It's perfectly legal and it's an adrenaline rush.

[deleted]

Username checks out.

AutistChan

Don’t know what you’re talking about but I’m using it as a song name for a punk album

FacelessFellow

That looks like recycling. Someone put a car battery in the recycling…

nlevine1988

Car batteries (lead acid kind) are actually one of the most thoroughly recycled products there is. Nearly everything in a standard lead acid car battery can be recycled. But this is not how you recycle a car battery lol

PM_me_your_trialcode

Yeah, this makes it look like an honest, misinformed mistake rather than negligent non-compliance or laziness. Like: "oh yeah, we recycle car batteries, that's what I've heard and what it says on the box. So I'll put it in recycling."

Unclehol

Yeah but also pretty daft. Honest, but daft. Bless their hearts.

nature_remains

Yeah just toss it in with the cardboard and cans - NO NOT THE GLASS you moron.

Legitimate-Train-228

Recycling car batteries and putting car batteries in your recycling are two very different things

telaser

Let’s hope because could you imagine the smell of first burning then soaking wet garbage dumped out in front of your house

ShitPostToast

It wasn't a residential street, but I drove by a local business when their parking lot happened to be the area the city trash truck and fire department had to do this. If it comes to a choice between a truck worth hundreds of thousands of dollars and a mess to clean up they'll dump whatever is in there in a heartbeat as soon as they're in a safe enough spot for it. Including the only other time I've seen it in person, on the side of the interstate.

Bryancreates

Not related but a memory unlocked. When I was 15 I worked for a pet supply store as a Chinese buffet was opening up next door. We shared a back alley/ nook with a shared dumpster. My managers were complaining we didn’t have mice until they moved in. Then one Saturday shift all these firetrucks arrived because the dumpster was on fire. The head manager told me “I should’ve killed y’all when I could’ve”. I’m not sure if he was in the war, but he got into a fight with everyone. It was 1996, also I wasn’t legally allowed to drive a forklift but they made me anyway and broke a ton of aquariums getting a pallet load off a truck. I didn’t last there very long. Oh they had poured hot oil onto the cardboard in the dumpster, or that’s what I heard happened. To this day the only literal dumpster fire I’ve ever seen.

Petdogdavid1

Hot wet garbage.

MasakariSix

Soaking*

OstentatiousSock

Also, *sopping. However, I believe they just had an autocorrect fail.

MasakariSix

Would have also accepted sopping. I refuse to allow socking

Rabankroll

We have fires every other day at the recycling facility because people throw away batteries.

cherishthechill

Well you can’t just throw it in the trash…

El_human

I mean... they say to recycle your car batteries

mkaku

That’s not recycling, there are styrofoam coolers and plastic bags in there. I think it’s just a lot of cardboard that no one wanted to recycle as well. US recycling is a joke anyway, most of what you put into recycling doesn’t end up being recycled.

TeciorRibbon

**SOMEONE LEFT MY CAKE OUT IN THE RAIN**

No_Investigator_1107

As a garbage collector myself I must say what an absolute baffoon

neverwrong804

I drive a side loader truck myself, cheers man!

No_Investigator_1107

Nice I'm currently stuck couse we got a sh*t car nice

Ne4143

Righty or lefty? Cheers to the both of you ha.

-my-name-because-

Hey I’m a side load driver here in Canada I’m driving a m2 frightliner been doing it for 2ish years and absolutely love it

Kib717

Lol garbage collector, where do you store your collectables? Lol. But for real, I used to drive a garbage truck. We used to get holiday cards all the time. My favorite "title" from those cards was "Waste and Refuse Relocation Specialist." Like being called a garbage man is a slur lol.

No_Investigator_1107

True lol I ones had a argument with a right c*nt and his argument was ''so what you are just a stupid garbage man'' and I was like ''you need me more than I need you''

Kib717

The world would fall apart in a week without garbage pickup lol.

No_Investigator_1107

Facts my brother

GerardWayAndDMT

Buffoon*

e_clev

Aside from the battery fire, What’s up with the music directing my focus away from the battery fire

Faux_Real

CUMBIAAAA!!!

catboobpuppyfuck

Cumbia Buena I love that fuckin song

IllustriousAd5936

Just made it my new ring tone 🙃

La_Quica

Thank you I was hoping someone would tell me what song this is

RaidensReturn

Social media poster not adding complete horseshit background music challenge (impossible)

Intoxic8edOne

What's wrong with this song?

Xenc

It’s covering the sound of the video

edamame_clitoris

It's amazing so it's distracting lmao

regenobids

What's wrong with letting one brain cell enjoy the music, elsewhere, so the second brain cell can enjoy the fucking moment, recorded as it was happening. If you still don't get it, try replacing some tutorial video with a goatse image. Impressive feat - but not the fucking place.

CeruleanRuin

Social media reposter not removing horseshit music challenge (also apparently impossible)

Happy_Go_Pappy

It's 10x better than the "oh no" song

Breath-Ordinary

It’s cumbia, the best music on planet earth.

AdministrationWide87

You can literally get paid for used batteries. Got me buggered how you could be so lazy.

closeddoorfun

How, if you don’t mind me asking?

AdministrationWide87

Where I am in Australia. Go to any metal recycling joints that take batteries. And they will give you a few bucks a battery. Depending on the type of battery (lead acid. Calcium or deep cycle etc) you get paid different amounts. Edit: even the local scouts have collection days to raise funds for the troop lately.

call_me_johnno

Local tip will take them for free as well because they make the $$ selling to the metal recycling

closeddoorfun

I gotta find that in the us. Thank you kindly

Lower-Trust1923

Search up scrap metal recycling in your area

Mesmeric_Fiend

Most auto parts stores will give around $10 store credit, and like others said they charge a core charge when you buy a new battery.

ShitPostToast

Any time you buy a new lead acid battery in the US if you don't bring in an old battery to exchange you'll be hit with a "core charge" which is basically the recycling value of the old battery. Scrap yards will basically pay you the same thing if you have an old battery without the need for buying a new one. As for other kinds of batteries I am really not sure on what value if any they have.

nlevine1988

Usually when you buy a new battery the store you buy it from pays you for the old one. The lead acid battery industry couldn't function without the materials from recycled batteries so they pay you for the old one. They even run their own recycling facilities where nearly everything gets recycled. The plastic gets ground into pellets and is mixed in with new batches of plastic for the container and the lead and oxide is melted down and mixed in with the lead for new batteries. Source: worked for one of the largest lead acid battery manufacturers

Swilla05

Hey in the US places like oreillys (yes I work there) will actually give you money on them! It's either a $10 gift card/$10 off whatever you're buying or if you want a new battery it's $22 cheaper with a core on it! But always check local battery shops if you have one or scrap yards since you can sometimes get more money that way!

pekinggeese

In California, they charge you a battery core fee, usually like $50. You get it back when you bring in your old battery.

Aeison

You can also exchange them to get a new battery for cheaper if you needed that, similar to propane tanks for grills and such

LearnYouALisp

"Core charge", exactly

adkryan

I returned an old corroded car battery to an auto parts store today and got $6. 6 bucks is 6 bucks!

dkyguy1995

Best part of being a firefighter has to be making a huge mess and not having to clean it up yourself

HoTChOcLa1E

i was wondering if they could make that dumbass neighbour clean it up or at least make him help

owlsandmoths

At the very least he would be charged for the response and cleanup. Most townships and municipalities have bylaws that state if you cause unnecessary usage of emergency resources, you will be billed for them. If something like this happened in my city then I would fully expect the person to have to pay for the wages for all the firefighters that responded, the amount of water used out of the truck, and subsequent waste cleanup of the debris on the ground. You’d be looking at tens of thousands right off the top just to start, and that’s if you’re lucky enough to get away without paying fines on top of that

Few_Assistant_9954

Also fine them for littering.

sklaventreiber9000

Here in Germany the firefighterw have to clean up after themselves, often times they are the last man on scene.

JustEatinScabs

Yeah it's funny they spend a lot of time cleaning up crash scenes and disasters and such but they never have to clean up the messes *they* make lol.

2swoll4u

they gotta go be firemen there's other people who can pick up trash

Lo-machete

What an idiot

Lazylion-6

Could this happen with any type of battery? If so, I’m guilty of throwing double and triple A’s once every while…..

AussieOsborne

Not alkaline but lithium for sure.

InsertValidUserHere

I don't know the difference, but I'm assuming lithium is the battery type used in anything non store bought? So electronics, things you charge, like laptops and phones?

New_Front_Page

Lithium batteries are typically anything rechargeable

InsertValidUserHere

Do they taste any differently

EndlessRainIntoACup1

saltier than normal

LearnYouALisp

r/hmmm

AussieOsborne

I know adulting is hard but batteries *literally* say it on the package. Anything shipped with lithium batteries also has multiple disclaimers and icons stating it. They also state the rules on disposal, so maybe spend a little more time reading directions and you'll save yourself a lot of lingering anxiety. (Also, yes your assumption is correct. Pretty much any small rechargeable from the past decade will be a lithium cell.)

dolechequeday

Yeah it's happened a few times in my area over the last few months from apparently disposable vape batteries.

meidkwhoiam

Disposable vapes is a massive misnomer because lithium ion is not disposable technology.

BactaBombsSuck

most disposable vapes when opened up are just the circuit taped onto a AA battery lmao

HoTChOcLa1E

in my country its pretty much forbidden for all kinds of batteries, not that they can effectively enforce such a rule but there are dumping stations at every grocery store/supermarket so there's no reason to put a battery in the garbage either

Lex6s

LiPo are the most dangerous and prone to catch fire if mishandled.

lemonClocker

Username checks out

naranjaPenguin21

i'm sorry who would throw away a LEGO NES box?!

Jmike8385

Why would you keep the box?

snoopissed

Multiple reasons! Mostly it’s a collector thing, but I use it to store manuals and spare parts too. It’s also generally nice to look at. Also if you have to move one day you can store the parts in the boxes and build them again, if you’re that kind of guy

HoTChOcLa1E

well I'm not collecting boxes but i already have plenty so for me there would be no reason to not throw away the box, i already have a storage problem which would be more reason to actually get rid of it

Themash360

That does not at all seem practical for the volume trade off.

Jmike8385

Yeah I agree. That’s just way too much space to take up for something that doesn’t really serve a purpose unless they’re being displayed and you have a bunch of room. But even then. I don’t think it’s odd that someone recycled it in this instance.

brightness3

I guess if you intend to sell it later. It’s the reason i keep pc part boxes.

Outrageous-thought1

What’s this song. Listening to it stoned had me flowing.

berniedankera

It’s called Cumbia Buena! Highly recommend watching this short video essay about the genre https://youtu.be/jzPQ7f0cbHs?si=rAE0f0To6bIMuXO3

Zippo574

Idk the exact song but this is cumbia music from Mexico hypnotic pulsing ritmos keep everyone dancing all night

Shucky__darns

Mmm wet burning garbage

Jonkerchonker

Mmmm burnt wet garbage

Zippo574

Not exactly related to your comment but a car battery fire in the back of a trash truck seems like a metaphor for American society it technically can still go where it wants seemingly unstoppable but it's kinda hard to not notice or address what's glaringly wrong. And when the problem finally gets addressed it usually causes a huge mess everyone else has to deal with.

silentfilmaddict

Omg you hit the nail on the head

closeddoorfun

This from a lead acid battery? Fill me in, I’m skeptical

lbow986

It's probably a ruptured lithium ion.

New_Front_Page

They make lithium car batteries

CaptinACAB

Has to be a lithium and whoever reposted the video is talking out their ass. I can’t imagine a lead acid doing this.

sparkynyc

The only thing I can think of is that the terminals shorted out against something conductive causing it to spark.

closeddoorfun

On a supposedly dead battery? I doubt it.

GodToldMeToPostThis

I am a former garbage man. Back then that was usually the cause. Something conducive makes contact with the battery terminals.

LearnYouALisp

I mean, strictly speaking if concentrated-enough sulfuric acid gets out it gives off a lot of heat contacting hydration or stripping carbohydrates of it

[deleted]

The ultimate flaming bag of shit prank. They got the whole neighbourhood with that one

Technicholl

I hope they were charged.

ndilegid

This is why cancer rates are so high for firefighters. The shit they have to deal with these days.

AK47_username

This is why we can’t have nice things

dangrgirl

What a lovely smell you've discovered!

vekozz

Feels so strange to see countries not differentiate garbage for recycling

uncleofthemonkey

I was just dancing haha

NoOutlandishness4363

They should leave the cleanup for that neighbor

WubblyFl1b

Yeah we got a new policy 100 percent of your garbage back if yuh not satisfied

TackleBox1791

🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

EnglishDodoBoi

Dumpster fire

skudzthecat

Take it to an auto parts store. They will pay you for it.

AdonisBlaqwood22

That's gonna be a fun clean up!

bigrobb26

How bad was the smell I wonder?

Lui_Le_Diamond

Bruh. Take it to fucking autozome they'll buy it from you.

Ok-Champion5003

The cleanest trash in the world

Guest65726

Should of dumped it on the lawn of the person who threw the car battery in there

Shadowwalker83

Something similar happened to my old workplace. A lithium battery went into one of the machines and started a fire that burned by the factory.

Figure8diiva

Omg I threw away a car battery once. Dear lord I hope this didn’t happen. The guy who changed my batteries just left it. I didn’t know that I needed to do something with it. I was So young and uninformed

juggernaut4012

Like damn. I am sure someone thought the warnings saying dispose of properly was a joke. In my best Cheech and Chong voice “ We don’t need no stinking recycling bin!” ( PS- You will need to be of a certain age to know that reference.)

grindzmygear

It's a lithium battery. Those are technically recycling, but only at proper drop off facilities.

BlockPuzzleheaded521

Notice it’s a promant neighborhood? These people just don’t care about us blue collar workers

LivePrompt7984

That was me mb yall

NS-FW

Who threw away the nintendo nes lego set box?!? What the fuck man

12Pig21pog

Remember this one time on a school bus a kid in thr back threw a battery into a active cement mixer eith an open top and the bus driver who is normally chill, lets say was slightly upset after the battery exploded

ayybh91

Mmmm wet, hot garbage

rightvision

Very glad to see the crews wearing BA. There’s too much bravado in the job about not wearing it unless you’re going into a building. Fuck that. All that smoke is cancer, fuck breathing in any of that shit.

Emergency_Net506

Thats gonna smell good for a good while

OldPiglet11

I bet that smells like my ex

dikkelullang

Whats that song?

digger105337

Regular car battery won't do anything, especially if it is dead. Lithium batteries for other things... oh yeah, they'll do that.

randomguy29120

Seems like a normal day to me

AdministrativeLow306

This is illegal in Germany. 🤦

dood_somen

Song sauce?

No_Force6013

Tell your neighbour he is a plonker

2020moi1979

I don't believe it it's probably a lithium battery in any appliances that puncture. When you garbage a battery usually it has no possibility to set a fire. They are fully discharge and safe except from acid. Old lithium batteries are unpredictable and if the bag have an hole their a huge of fire.

Trapinch-isnt-me

A hot stinking pile of garbage

Medium_Buy_4908

Video says neighbor decides to throw it. We all know the the person recording it put the car battery in the damn trash can like a true horn born retard

Particular_Turn5508

Legit hot garbage

Financial-Coconut574

Definitely wasn't a car battery. Car batteries aren't lithium based and that's what would have caused this

alejandrojohannes

It was a battery for an electric scooter or bike I think. This happened in my suburb.

Apokhalip

Why throw tho... You can always trade in... Like rebate when purchasing new one

shleemcgee

‘Neighbour’

Responsible_List8660

North Somerset residents to receive hangers about lithium battery disposal https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-bristol-68184895

Technical_Muffin3244

Looks like recycling has come full circle. Make a pile beside the road and let it smoulder a while

Cyberspace667

The county or village should make him clean that up

WartimeMandalorian

I'm sure that smelled amazing

twan5446

Wow i bet that made the whole neighborhood smell just absolutely amazing 😂

Lobster_Bisque27

MMMMM I bet all that smells lovely

Metalfriends

Actual footage of me using a bidet at 25 seconds.

IamREBELoe

That's a hot mess right there

disco_phiscuits

Honest question: How did it catch fire? I’m assuming some kind of chemical reaction with whatever was in there?

Due-Persimmon-1753

What an idiot!! He should have to pay to have all of that garbage picked up and disposed of.

DeeCl0wn

Imagine the stank Burnt garbage? Naw naw, WET BURNT GARBAGE

Horsecockexpress1

ya you call yesterday to complain? Well that’s our policy it’s written on all our trucks. Double your garbage back if you’re not satisfied.

que-pasa-koala

I love this tropico music, what genre is it called?

HarrySRL

I highly doubt they got paid for the day after this or even got fired, it’s not the thing to do when a person puts a car battery in a recycling bin and even if it’s not allowed, but then it looks American so I am not completely sure when it comes to them.

Mongobearmanfish

This is known in the industry as “dumping a hot load”

Boris-the-soviet-spy

Normal people toss them into the ocean

Aladeen_Aladeen3221

🤣🤣🤣

Kile1047

Fire beat byw 🔥🔥🔥🔥

SoupieLC

I'm sure there could have been a far more safe, legal and thrilling way to dispose of that....

Gabage-farmer

Very very stupid decision and does no one read warning labels

unclefishbits

You don't throw out car batteries, you put them in the ocean so the electric eels can recharge.

XrayDem

Imagine you had an open house that day

patchway247

As a friendly enough reminder, rural king takes car batteries. I don't like promoting them, but I'd rather people know.

Plenty_Status_6168

I really hope they made him clean that shit up

cieuxrouges

Whole neighborhood smells like wet, hot garbage. Thanks.

AXYZBX

/u/savevideo

OffduhTopic

Hot wet garbage. That will make the neighborhood smell great

elzopiloote

Them firemen weren’t doing shit anyways except hitting on chicks at Walmart and playing ps4

tatianazr

Imagine if that’s in front of your house

Steampunk_error

you're supposed to throw car batteries in the ocean dumbass

TylerYax

Mmmm hot garbage juice...

CortezDeLaNoche

Not gonna lie. I've never had to throw away a car battery. If I hadn't seen this post, I would never have known.

Sudden-Paint1687

Bruh I know fuckers who do this and just don’t give a shit

Lost-Amphibian0321

They go in the blue bin, right?

Nissan280zx

When will yall learn that the batteries go in the ocean!?!?? How else will the eels recharge?

Natural_Draw4673

Nothin quite like the smell of hot wet garbage in the morning.
