Greglebowski74

The tank is just full of a very dense gas. Looks good though.

rabbithands

Sulfur Hexafluoride I think. I'm just going off the top of my head. I'm gonna Google it now to see if I remembered correctly. Edit: yep, I was right. r/iamverysmart

Greglebowski74

Yeah, that's the one. I had a feeling Hexa something was in the name.

[deleted]

Dread_Frog

If SF6 its heavier then air how does it get into the atmosphere? is it light enough to get blown around by wind?

[deleted]

You gotta throw it

[deleted]

Cody from Cody's Lab did it in a shorts video and then breathed in a balloon of perfluorobutane too which he had trouble getting out of his lungs as it's that dense. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TG7gstXCt1A

graveybrains

And, in addition to the weird sounding voice, you get a good example of what hypoxia looks like.

p00pdal00p

Wow I just clicked that that's what SF6 is. I don't deal with it directly, but it is tangentially involved in my job, and I knew what sulfur hexafluoride was, but somehow I never made the link.

apebiocomputer

Ah yes the Darth Vader gas

X_antaM

Hexagon?

The2020TyGuy

Bestagon.

jvrcb17

Hexagons are bestagons

maniBchef

Guess argon would be too expensive to play with...

[deleted]

Not really, it’s often used in reactions to keep oxygen out as it’s denser.

nforgiver

*welding*

throwayay4637282

Argon is used in welding and food/beverage packaging all the time. It’s not that expensive.

ArgonGryphon

you wish

potentpotables

Only about $150/cylinder for ultra high purity. Might not be dense enough.

trwawy05312015

I don't think argon is dense enough to do this with. Maybe xenon, but that would be much more expensive than SF6.

TitanicMan

Isn't Xenon the other heavy gas you can get naturally high on, like Nitrous Oxide?

0p8s-4-me

Yes, it lasts much longer than nitrous and actually has neuroprotective properties in addition to its NMDA action.

[deleted]

That’s also the gas you can breathe in that has the opposite effect of helium

helpmeiaminhell93

Ah this is what I was wondering. The Will Ferrell “you guys are crazy” gas.

[deleted]

lol yep

user5918

Sniped

Screwbles

Fuckin galaxy brain over here.

_stinkys

Can you feel the difference by running your hand between both mediums?

wildhoover

When you breath it, your voice goes down.

Jameloaf

And you have to do a head stand to get it to leave your lungs

heartlessglin

Or just cough. Or breath out hard. But sure whatever you like

NaturesHardNipples

If you do it with nitrous both your voice AND your body goes down

Dank__Souls

Oh, Dust Off.

ponzLL

I don't think anyone thought it was actually flying dawg

Skud_NZ

Na it's an aluminum falcon

Batman0088

Wow, he figured it out guys.

SerengetiYeti

Me too

roboj9

I've always wonder when he fills the cup up can he feel the difference

[deleted]

Me and this tank have a lot in common, then. I look good, but I’m extremely full of gas.

Antiqas86

Not as dense as your mum tho.

[deleted]

Lt_Marks

Yeah, cool video but people are just posting the most easily explainable stuff right now

juiceboxheero

Good luck on your search for actual magic.

Pr0nzeh

There's a very large middle ground between elementary school science project and magic.

spikychick

dude this is clearly a highschool or college. all i learned in elementary school was about shit like the water cycle. not how invisible gasses exist or about the elemental makeup of air

cjankowski

That’s not even what this is. This is just a demonstration of density, which was 7th grade for me iirc.

KeppraKid

Bad education system. Mine isn't what I would consider good either but we learned about density and the makeup of the atmosphere. Hell, we learned about invisible gases pretty early as part of a safety unit.

I'm going to r/videos where they know how to make realistic videos. - u/BackAlleyKittens

Skud_NZ

Can I have your stuff?

RoomIn8

You gonna repost his bitching comments?

filans

Good riddance

[deleted]

I'm going to filter it out. Every time it pops up it's just this crap nowadays.

ephix

This isn’t an airport, etc.

Umbreon189

I love going to the comment section of posts on this sub . It’s quite hilarious how this community is quite literally incapable of agreeing on what the point of this subreddit is in any capacity . Or rather what black magic fuckery should be defined as . Kinda feel bad for the mods .

d00derinoo

Also comments explaining it must be a denser gas like everyone actually thought homie was just pouring air.

ajax2k9

I'm glad they said denser gas, I was afraid someone was gonna say strings

kegegeam

It was clearly all magnets

Narwhalefosho

It's fake either way. You can see the cup is empty the whole time

RvNx_15

theres probably some dense gas in there, maybe a fluorine compund

Nahanoj_Zavizad

Sulphur hexafluoride, yeah

eyes_made_of_wood

Airplanes are also made out of flying aluminum.

jap_the_cool

Airplane grade aluminum… such a weird word go describe it.

PieMastaSam

I think this is more like floating.

zachiscool7

Pretty sure anyone over 15 has seen this trick

Canadianingermany

I am definitely over 18 and I have never seen this trick. I guessed the answer right away as I did some chemistry and physics in my day.

[deleted]

Never seen it before, but I still know what’s going on

SaraSmashley

Crew: "We're taking on water captain!" Cap: "Begin bailing it!" Crew: "Captain, it appears to be invisible!" Cap: ......

Teh_RainbowGuy

Well boats aren't exactly BMF either, are they?

Skud_NZ

There was a time when people thought a steel boat would never float

bunnymud

Floating

SixNineWithTheAfro

It has to be a tank of farts.

hawkaluga

Good morning class. Did you all remember to bring in your farts today? Please line up, one at a time and prepare to add your sample to the tank.

SixNineWithTheAfro

“Dang it. I don’t have mine. My dog ate my fart.”

MUDrummer

Should rename this sub to /r/idontunderstandhighschoolscience

[deleted]

Or r/watchpeoplewhineovereverypost

Baer1990

correct term is floating, not flying cool video, -1 for posting in the wrong sub

LovesFLSun

So is it ok to just down vote if things are not BMF?

Large_Dr_Pepper

Why wouldn't that be okay

LovesFLSun

True, just want to play by China's rules

AJnbca

Easy - it’s just floating over a Heavy gas, that’s why it’s over a fish tank and there is a pressurized gas tank next to it. Probably sulfur hexafluoride.

the_kessel_runner

Just rename this sub to r/sciencefuckery or something at this point

shephazard

These mother fuckers seeing density waves!!! What a great origin story!

[deleted]

Likely full of SF6, very interesting gas.

ENTROPY_IS_LIFE

FLOATING on SF6 or xenon. its a boat, jeez

BashStriker

More like floating aluminum on a gas.

tiefenschaerfe

It‘s not flying, it‘s floating.

chris_ro

Flying ≠ Floating

FandomMenace

Density is now magic. Noted.

Workdawg

Floating*. Also, a clip that is clearly from a science classroom. There could not possibly be an obvious science explanation for this... nope. It's black magic.

JKDMan82-

Gasses behave like fluids

[deleted]

Gasses are fluid, as are liquids.

Disastrous-Air-5496

Sulphur hexafluoride, which is a very heavy gas. So the container is filled with a gas so heavy, that materials can float on it when the buoncy is low enough.

justAneedlessBOI

Pouring it must be such a cool feeling

RudySPG

SCIENCE DOES NOT EQUAL BLACK MAGIC!

Benatomic123

I read that as frying but now I’m a bit disappointed

HAMO55x

Error : Water.exe has stopped working

1nfinitydividedby0

Aircrafts are also flying aluminum.

eion_zeus

so if i jump in a giant tank full of the same gas will i be able to float

EcahUruecah

An object will float if it is less dense than the fluid it is in. Assuming sulfur hexafluoride gas (6.17 kg/m³), vs a human body (close to 1000 kg/m³) or a human body with a deep breath of air (950 kg/m³), they're nowhere close. Even styrofoam is around 30 kilos for a cubic meter of the stuff. You'll need a heck of a lot of air to make yourself fluffy enough to float in that gas. Or a boat made of super strong and light materials with enough space inside that the total density of boat + you inside boat + air inside boat < than the density of the gas you're trying to float on.

thats_not_a_knoife

Science is so cool.

myr78

mmm yes bitches love those density waves

imma_gamin

Bro’s miming skills are to the next level

fronkeypoop

Science bitch!

[deleted]

Floating.

[deleted]

fun fact if you inhale that stuff, it makes your voice very very deep, opposite of helium!

GrowingToad

This is actually pretty easy, the dude just used floatus aluminus. This is like black magic 101 people

Katalina_Rogue

This is how Dream always gets away.

kooroshji

That thing called invisible water can be done by bunch of chemistry work just search web and you will find out

diveraj

Less flying. More floating.

Atreaia

*floating

Reddit_KetaM

"This is not black magic fuckery!!" What are people expecting? A video of some witches sacrificing people for some satanic ritual? Someone breaking the laws of physics? Lmao

Sasuke12187

Imagine if your friend went "dude, there's no sulfur hexafloride" while scooping up.......

GameCop

SF6 is sender than the air

Br4veSirRobin

CO2

oxxeva

Read the title wrong (flying alumni) was very disappinted when i saw this.

Uncout

I feel like the motto for this sub should become "Any science, sufficiently advanced, will appear as magic"

FutureToe8861

This has always been one of my favorite science demonstrations proving that things do not have to be visible to affect the things around you.

Leathman

Already saw this episode of Mythbusters.

1101base2

now take a deep breath of it (instant darth vader voice)

xX7NotASquash7Xx

It’s floating on a very dense gas, sulfur hexafluoride I believe. Sulfur hexafluoride is basically the opposite of helium it’s non toxic and has some interesting effects when ingested, look up a video!

Shoddy_Astronaut_583

Myth busted

IMPORTANT_INFO

floating

[deleted]

Ok, now make the aluminum transparent.

TrumpSmokesMids27

This is just regular science

pronouns-peepoo

Everything is regular science

tonkatruckz369

This is technically floating aluminum rather than flying. Still a super cool effect.

WastedKleenex

Technically it’s floating.

Atlars

Actually, it's floating

[deleted]

We need another cannister of nerdanium.

InFillTraitor

its a boat.

SeanSpeezy

Thought this was a lifter cell at first

ChubCrudson

MYTHBUSTERS DID IT

akubukanbabi

Invisible water

underscore20000

It would be great if someone filled the whole room with this stuff Probably really expensive tho And mildly dangerous

_jewson

Given it's 23,000 times worse for global warming than co2, and already used excessively for pointless classroom experiments year after year in every school on the planet, I'd say maybe not increasing its use would be good.

Forward_Reputation94

Solelegendary62

“Captain, we’re taking on too much air!”

OneWinner1690

The proof of gravity being a lie.

KingFishKron

That’s some heavy gasS…

Boris740

Floating

CacophonousEpidemic

YOU’RE DOING IT, PETER!

Capitalmind

So it floats.. Want to watch it fly, chuck a match in there

Mjlkman

Bruh that's my highschool

FirmMorning26

All of these guys are getting laid tonight

Slopz_

If i takes less than 1 second of thought to come up with an explanation, then it's not black magic. This sub has gone to shit.

Yoyo5258

Gas👍

andrenery

Aluminium*. It's not that hard, americans

Akuma12321

Probably just a dense gas within the fishtank.

19Legs_of_Doom

Thus proving that science truly is modern magic

AdmirableSpirit4653

I'd say this more floating aluminium, or, probably, swiming. It looks like there has to be water... but there just very dence gas or so.

LiamR0cks

Aaand that’s gonna be it for me. So long r/BlackMagicFuckery

Dakramar

Wow much magic

Windfall_The_Dutchie

u/savevideobot

Carpet_smell

Floating aluminum* (unless im completely wrong)

OneGold7

I don’t think there’s a single post on this sub that doesn’t have a war in the comments over whether it’s “BMF” enough

MrBiggz83

I swear, 99% of this sub is full of shit that can be easily explained

loading61

u/savevideobot

Elvis-Tech

Floating on thicker gas

skydragon3088

I wonder if areogel is light enough to float as a block in that tank

Panonica

It is missing an i, that’s why it’s so light.

_jewson

Sf6 is tens of thousands of times more potent a greenhouse gas than co2. Regardless it's used like this for classroom experiments around the entire world, year after year in nearly every school. Make sure you're buying an energy efficient lightbulb though :)

BIGjaeii

Sulfur hexaflouride is so cool

[deleted]

Lmao where’s the teacher at? It looks like they just busted this stuff out while the teacher is in the bathroom

Twclouti

What do they do with the gas after….?

[deleted]

Did I see a kids taking video on a Windows phone? How old Is this?

Elo-who

Nah can’t fool me. There’s a ghost holding that for sure

ALIENS

Tralan

If you breathe it in, it does the opposite of helium and makes your voice really deep.

qwerty3221

There needs to be a sub where people post cool science stuff like this since that’s what the majority of this sub is

MT_Flesch

floating aluminum. aluminum flies on an hourly basis as that is what aircraft are primarily made of

xXJungleJimsXx

Can we remember what this sub is actually for? Not magic tricks or easily explainable science bits.

EGGMANDIOUS

Love the heavy gas voices when inhaled.

DeadArtist617

it’s full of dense gas duhhhhh

wotiswat

Floating

Dieguzin

aluminun

ShelterCurrent

But where did he get SF6 that easily & casual in order to make a small movie out of it? Is it in something that you find it in the house easily m?

mdmckeever

SF-6. It’s used to prevent electrical arching. If breathed in, unlike helium it gives you a VERY deep voice. Problem is it doesn’t leave your lungs easily because it’s so heavy.

Scruffy_Macgyver

Great, now this thread can fight it out. Personally is it aluminum or aluminium?

ScharlieScheen

aluminium*

Lil_Comrad3

Only If could go back in time and do this in a medieval village.

GeoSlIde

I know how this works but it is still really cool

NinjaaMike

Mythbusters version: https://youtu.be/KReTvW7BTHQ

nomadofwaves

Trying to get the horcrux at the bottom. Just find a house elf.

Andaisdet

There’s a gas that’s heavier than air in the tank, due to the aluminum boat being so light, it can float on top of it like there’s some invisible water inside of the tank

Wilfred_Warrior

Messi????
