I have this same experience. There’s almost like a weird homesickness for Bloodborne after a play-through when I play other games? It’s weird as hell and I can’t put my finger on why it happens, and what’s wrong with me that a horrific world of eldritch horrors feels homey to me.
I think it’s the flow of combat, PARTICULARLY when you are knowledgeable about the game and all its systems.
The multitude of weapons also means there’s always something new to try, so that significantly adds to the novelty.
Chalice dungeons for me lmaooo
Sometimes I just fuck off the main game and ZOOM through chalices till I hit a wall then resume the story
Keeps shit absolutely fresh
chalice dungeons were the scariest area for me when I first started, now they feel super homey. and I love being able to take a break from chalices to do story or vice versa, super underrated feature by all the dungeon haters.
Last year I started to listen to ambience music to help me sleep.
It's like a constant nightmare I enjoy
Ngl most dreams feels like a peaceful walk down an empty alley
Yeah, I totally understand.
I feel the art style gives some parts of the game the feel of an old British model play set or book illustration.
It's very cozy.
I think Bloodborne and Dark Souls are so cozy for me because they all have this kind of dreamlike ambience (in Bloodborne’s case, literally) and they’re fairly small scale so it’s like a little town where you know everyone.
Oh I love the atmosphere in Bloodborne. I do find it very cozy/comforting.Apparently Yharnam is modelled somewhat on Edinburgh, which I visited for the first time just last year. And sure enough, Edinburgh has those same vibes.
I looked at some photos and can definitely see the inspiration. It’s funny that Yharnam is so obviously supposed to be London, but resembles a city in Scotland too.
I think from a Japanese point of view, it's a representation of an archetypal Victorian gothic city from somewhere in Europe. But yeah, apparently FromSoft were directly influenced by Edinburgh.
The dreadful to cozy transition is an interesting one. When I first played this game a few years ago it creeped the hell out of me and I always felt uncomfortable playing it. Nowadays whenever I do a playthrough it feels cozy like you said. It’s like coming back to an old friend.
I remember when I was trying to get the platinum for the Crash 1 remake and The High Road was driving me up the wall, I'd switch to Bloodborne to calm down.
Totally a comfort game for me. I always come back to it when I get burnt out on other games, but that never happens with BB. The atmosphere, the weapons, music, areas... It's all so nice, yanno? I wouldn't last a day in Yharnam, but I'd sure as hell visit lmao
Ambience is soothing, and this game has that in spades.
Nightmare Frontier is my relaxing place. I really love the geography-- it feels like certain places inside my mind, rugged and challenging and complex and a little toxic in places.
Same here. It reminds me of a certain type of Halloween celebration or older horror film-- monsters and witches and blood-drinking, but in a classy way. Macabre, not voyeuristic. Playing it is like cozying up to watch a Vincent Price film. Sure it's a bit spooky, but it's a good time. Actually, with the setting and music, it reminds me of Phantom Manor at Disneyland Paris (which was originally intended to be narrated by Vincent Price, only his French was apparently awful).
Hemwick reminds me of Halloween in my hometown with the nice evening autumn colors. And the witches, of course.
Your brain ignores the horrific imagery and feels rewarded by the familiar gameplay. The tension is gone because you know exactly what will happen and how to react.
Its my relaxin' game

I feel the same way about every Soulsborne game after a few playthroughs, once you get over the challenge it’s super chill.
It’s the sound effects for me those footsteps are so satisfying.

It's my happy place. Never have I felt more powerful in a video game.

A very mellow game

It gives me a sense of nostalgia every time I play through..no other game does this

I feel that way about a lot of Fromsoftware's games. Maybe it's because I know them so well by now, but they're my comfort games.

I find Hemwick pretty soothing too. After all the enemies are down it’s just so quiet it’s like exploring an abandoned town.
Bloodborne has become my comfort game. When I tell people this they look at me like I've got something funny on my face 😂
I like to watch the sunset after I kill everything.
I feel that way at Byrgenwerth for sure. Its like a nice little getaway home lol it helps that there's not many spawns there too
This cozy is why we all love this game

I know the feeling. I'm running through Lies of P for the first time and it's incredibly satisfying.
i dropped 600 hours in lop from start to plat. incredible game.
It's incredibly satisfying. Still getting used to dodging the times when enemies glow red but at least you can parry that.
