My daughter really likes edamame beans. Any time I make some for myself, she has to have some, which is great! I'm fine with that!
The other day, she comes up and starts saying something that sounds like "bushel," and I'm like, "bushel? whats that supposed to mean?" and she just kept saying it, then trying to say edamame, and I realized she's saying bonjour. She grabbed her snack up and dumped out her little puffies and goes, "BUSHEL!" then started asking for pavlova.
Completely out of the blue. We've watched that episode before, and the way she just started trying to act like Bandit was so cute. I took a video and sent it to my husband.
The French reminds me of Flight of the Conchords song “Foux du fa fa”. Which only makes me love both more.

Seeing Bingo being able to say to her dad “I don’t like when you MAKE me try things” and seeing that actually have an immediate effect on what was going on, without a punishment or fight, just an unspoken agreement to move forward with more understanding on both sides meant SO MUCH to me. One of my favorite episodes hands down.
Kids want choice because it helps them feel in control and that they have some agency in their own life, rather than they are constantly being told what to do by adults.
Have you ever made the meringue base? That can go epically wrong! Best thing is that the cream and fruit/topping of choice covers the look of it, but the texture... that's the hard part!
I have come to the conclusion that the easiest way to achieve "stiff white peaks" is to keep the egg whites at room temp prior to mixing, and warm the bowl with your hands while you whisk. So far it hasn't let me down.
Low and slow. I have a recipe for meringue cookies that have come out beautifully crisp on the outside and chewy in the middle both times I've made them. They're actually the ONLY cookies my 4 year old will eat!
Well, my first attempt at the meringue is not promising, lol. It’s in the oven but I never achieved stiff peaks so I’m guessing there was some fat contamination. I figured I’d bake it anyway but I believe it will probably be dense and chewy from internet descriptions. I have thoroughly washed and dried my bowls and utensils and have my ingredients ready for take two this afternoon as I refuse to be beaten by meringue at this point.
It might turn out alright, I never quite got to stiff peaks either. I feel like maybe you can beat the mix too much? But I'm very amateur with baking so who knows. I know I mixed for way longer than the recipe recommended and never got the consistency. But it still formed alright. Definitely let it cool very slowly in the oven once it's baked for however long, but it'll still break some when you try to cut it

My second attempt was a success! Here is the final product. The kids were moderately impressed with the end result. I thought it was delicious, a lot of effort though. And most of it was gone in one sitting.
I never hear anyone talking about it. I always tell someone it’s my favorite and they seem to never recognize or agree. That’s why I considered it underrated.
I hate this one because it strikes a nerve with food policing. Bandit would rather ruin food and frustrate Bingo then find an alternative -it's either ednadame beans-btw even though I hate the episode I will only say them this way now- or pavlova. But Bingo is a good sport and thinks it's funny, not like me who was the little girl who would frustrated cry.
FYI there's nothing wrong with the episode. This is just my transference, and it's nice to unpack this a bit :). I wish my therapist was more fluent in Bluey.
I'm actually kind of on the other side. I don't "food police" and when my kids ask for a snack I typically give it unless it's almost dinner time and they've already had one, and also I try not to offer alternatives to what's on the table for dinner. But it's OK to say we're not having pavlova right now. We're saving it for later.
Totally! But the only other option is ednadame beans, which she hasn't tried before. If Chilli had said "you can have ednadame beans or an apple if you are really hungry," totally fine! But we all have different experiences and do different things.
I feel you with food policing.
I can look past it in this context, since Bingo doesn’t signal that it’s too much; I think if she was truly upset at Bandit’s shenanigans, he’d stop.
As a dad now, I try to strike the balance Bandit does; teasing only my kid when he thinks it’s fun, and stopping when he doesn’t.
But yeah. I hope you’re doing well, despite having experienced food policing :/
Totally! It's Bluey who is getting the most annoyed with it, just because he's getting in her way. Bingo's just like "I like his funny talk".
I'm totally doing well! Thank you for asking! We all have our things lol. But it'll totally be my first question when I'm looking at preschools for my son. If I send him with a cookie in his lunch box, no one (other than himself) is stopping him from eating the cookie!
The random French phrases or words absolutely make the episode for me. It’s so good.
Ou est la discotheque?!
Ahh! Karte Norde!
*gare du nord Train station in Paris lol
Ce bon!!!
Ouvre la fenetre! ☺️
Je vous la feNETRE!!
Mercredi.
Tres Malade!
Je suis un chine!
Bonjour!
Je suis désolé!
Je suis le chien!
Best line of random French in the whole episode.
I just realized this line makes sense dohhhh he is a dog lolll

Ou est la piscine? Splish splash?
One of my most treasured memories is my husband and I walking around Paris, quietly singing Foux du fa fa to each other on our honeymoon.
I am glad I'm not the only person who made that connection
You know he just called you a booger?
How very dare you?!

Any episode that has a Bingo close-up is a good one.
The bingo closeups are the BEST!
You’ve gotta learn to play the long game.
It went over my head but what was the lesson being thought?
Kids want choice because it helps them feel in control and that they have some agency in their own life, rather than they are constantly being told what to do by adults.
Ooooh. thank you!
That actually sounds kinda clever.
...and playing the long game with kids. Bandit allows Bingo the choice knowing that her curiosity will eventually lead her to try the edamame.
Pav...lova?
Ou est la discotheque?
Tu es une morve.
We still call them “Enda-ma-way” beans
Enda-bally beans
MM PAVLOVA!
This is one of my favorite episodes. It’s close between this one and Family Meeting.
Allegedly!
I’m going to make pavlova with my brother next time I’m home, he loves this episode too! 🥰
I loved it
On a side note I’m making pavlova tomorrow! It sounds so good. And doesn’t look too hard to make.

But the baking itself? That's the bit that's hard!

Oh wow! I can never get the base right, but I have a terrible oven. My Aunty is amazing at making the bases too!!
Let us know how it turns out! I've done it twice and it was tasty, but far from perfect. Do you already have a recipe to follow?

Tres Milan!
I'm not sure how one of the best episodes is underrated, but appreciate all the love it's getting in the comments
