YES! First thing that came to my mind also. Nailing the Disney Channel fashionista. As someone who spent their formative years in black t-shirts and black jeans, I wish I had been half this brave.
Funny story about those vests. Had my first date with my now-wife at 18 and I almost stood her up because she looked like such a dork. Fedora, jeans that were too short (but not intentionally short like capris, just not the right length), a graphic tee, and a leather vest.
Obviously I'm extremely thankful I didn't, but we had met at a friend's birthday a week or two before and she was dressed much more "normal" so it threw me for a loop.
I never said anything about it because it would have been rude but that was the last time she ever wore a vest like that haha.
Now our kids have her sense of style, my older son is 4 but for the most part he's happy to choose the most clashing and bright outfits he can. C O L O U R S
I love seeing little kids who have obviously dressed themselves, they always look so happy & proud. My daughter was one of them and she put together some truly wild looks! As long as it was weather appropriate she could wear anything as long as she got in the bloody car so we could go.
That's adorable! Please let her dress and makeup and do her hair however she wants to in the future as well!! Strict parents raise sneaky kids, if you forbid her from wearing makeup she'll just do it at school and take it off before coming back home.
Besides, even if her style choices might not look sensible to you for a few years, you'll have excellent memories to look back on when she's older, regardless of whether or not she keeps dressing that way.
My parents let me dress weird and wear electric blue eyeliner and dye my hair blue (after years of begging) and now that I'm more of a red lipstick and old Hollywood type of a girl, I have plenty of funny pictures of myself to look back on from 8th grade, where I didn't know how to do makeup yet and my hair was fading into an ocean green hue!
This same thing applies to mostly harmless piercings or hair dyes she might want, let her pay for them at least partially herself and she'll be guaranteed to take better care of them.
I apologise for the weird long comment, but I feel very strongly about letting kids do stupid things when they're kids instead of restricting them. I wish your kid all the best! :)
It is so true though! My mom was so strict with me and I just got good at lying lol. She took the opposite tactic with my sibling and had a much better result in that regard. Less lying, better communication. It makes such a difference, particularly with a strong headed first child like myself.
Exactly! Was it smart to colour my hair and dress exclusively in blue for about 8 years of my life? Of course not! Did my parents still support me and look for blue things only for me? Yes they did :)
I didn’t want to be reminded! lol I had a brown and pink one I wore everywhere and it honestly looked like it should have been hanging on someone’s nans chair
I dressed like this as a kid too 😭 definitely had 2000s Disney Channel best friend vibes. Honestly though, it’s super endearing! You can tell a lot of love went into these looks, and that you were having fun without caring what people thought.
The third picture is my favourite... There's just so much going on.. The hat.. The prints... Suddenly bright pink shoes and socks.. Beetles tshirt.. What an outfit
The "off" Y2k girl outfits on here just look to me like girls are wearing the trends of the time with whatever they had, and their parents didn't let them do enough shopping or get a large enough wardrobe to mix and match cohesively. Like if the size, colors, cut, print, etc. don't look that great it because people were pulling out whatever they did have to put those looks together.
I can tell you came of age when Elle Girl and Teen Vogue was first printed. Save for the 2nd pic, this is all very "international street style pages" of those publications! I wanted to dress that cool so bad.
I love these. I would have been friends with you for sure. I had a collection of rainbow colored skinny jeans. We would have looked so good running through the mall together.
oh my god you look so cute 😭😭 im sorry but the way young adults used to dress is so incredibly endearing, it was a time where self expression didnt have as many borders as it does now. its harder to dress how you want if it isnt within an "aesthetic". these outfits are all so charming, maybe its because im 21 and i was a little kid seeing teenagers and adults dress like this all the time, but the eclectic confusing incoherent fashion of the 2000s-2010s will forever be so near and dear to my heart ♥️
I let my kid dress however the hell he wants. When I was a kid, I got so much shit for what I wore, but that's the age when you *can* wear whatever you want! If kids can't express themselves in silly ways, then who can? They don't have a 9-5 and a boss to answer to, so why shouldn't they be allowed to treat every day like Halloween?
I love it! I let my five year old mix and match her clothes however she likes as long as it’s weather appropriate and clean—she’s got a similar aesthetic going and I hope she never stops!
Counterpoint: it's better to make these mistakes (?) younger rather than when you're, say, 25. I say get that Disney channel aesthetic out at 13 or whatever because that's when everyone else is throwing together crazy outfits too.
The first picture has every trend from that era!
Tiny vest,
Leggings(but capri!),
Graphic tee,
Midi skirt that’s kinda tough and military like,
The freaking sandals,
The oversize sunglasses!!
FASHIONISTA
Um WHAT? This is the best style I have ever seen! It’s unique and chaotic. I never had the guts to stand out too much. And I was always overly concerned if things “went together”. I still to this day worry about pairing black and brown together. I’m 32. 😬
Honestly, as a kid that age, that's exactly what you should be doing. Figure out your style at your own pace, without judgment. I've seen far worse from my classmates. I'm getting Disney Channel series character vibes.
You look like a Disney Channels main character’s quirky best friend
It’s giving Chelsea from that’s so raven and I love it so much.
I was thinking more Miranda from Lizzie Mcguire
nah, alex russo from wizards of waverly place
It’s her best friend Harper
All of the above
I'm getting major Sue Heck vibes.
YES! First thing that came to my mind also. Nailing the Disney Channel fashionista. As someone who spent their formative years in black t-shirts and black jeans, I wish I had been half this brave.
the layers and mixed prints 😂
She looks like all of them at once
Or half of California adults
My sisters are both California adults so I agree with you 😂
Argyle socks w cheetah pants is so real
I loved those pants so much
What in the 2000's disney channel wardrobe
Those tiny vests had a hold on a lot of us unfortunately 🫣
Funny story about those vests. Had my first date with my now-wife at 18 and I almost stood her up because she looked like such a dork. I love the fact so many parents just let their kids dress in whatever. Princess outfit no worries Spiderman for the supermarket? Cool. I love it
I understand it now that I have kids lol sometimes it’s just not worth the fight…and they look adorable!
I love seeing little kids who have obviously dressed themselves, they always look so happy & proud. My daughter was one of them and she put together some truly wild looks! As long as it was weather appropriate she could wear anything as long as she got in the bloody car so we could go.
this is hilarious. definitely never tell her that, but as a personal little secret, it's pretty funny and sweet.
She's got a good sense of humor, we've talked about it in the years since. It was over a decade ago, it's all good.
My 11yo daughter dresses like this
I love that
Sounds like an awesome kid!
She is pretty amazing if I do say so myself.
I’m going to steal the “strict parents raise sneaky kids”. I felt that deep in the very religious upbringing gut.
I didn't invent that phrase myself, I read it online somewhere years ago!
It is so true though! My mom was so strict with me and I just got good at lying lol. She took the opposite tactic with my sibling and had a much better result in that regard. Less lying, better communication. It makes such a difference, particularly with a strong headed first child like myself.
Stupid, yet harmless things.
Exactly! Was it smart to colour my hair and dress exclusively in blue for about 8 years of my life? Of course not! Did my parents still support me and look for blue things only for me? Yes they did :)
My sincerest condolences
I think it's awesome when a kid has this much personality.
[удалено]
Dressed like a randomized Sims 4 Townie lol
The tiny bow tie 😭❤️
I like how you dressed like a woman in her mid 40’s when you were a kid.
Second pic is definitely giving eastern european babushka
The second pic is lowkey iconic
I'm 37, saw that poncho and immediately thought "why haven't I crocheted one of those for myself yet?"
Most of us did back then haha the maternity wear for middle school was haunting
Omg, I had forgotten about the whole knit poncho moment.
I didn’t want to be reminded! lol I had a brown and pink one I wore everywhere and it honestly looked like it should have been hanging on someone’s nans chair
Let's bring it back, they're so comfy like wearing a blanket!!
I had one that was striped fuchsia, baby pink, and white. Agree that it looked like an afghan someone’s grandmother had knitted.
Right?! It's just something you _need_ to do at one point.
So many trends of the 2000s here all at once.
I dressed like this as a kid too 😭 definitely had 2000s Disney Channel best friend vibes. Honestly though, it’s super endearing! You can tell a lot of love went into these looks, and that you were having fun without caring what people thought.
Okay, but #3 is a fire outfit and no one can convince me otherwise
Agree. I want that blanket coat.
Perfect for storming the capital
That's a kid who's parents didn't say a thing while they were expressing themselves, because surely if they had it wouldn't have escalated this much😂
In my limited experience, it would just have escalated in a different direction :)
Very very true😂
The original quirked up shorty
I love the last one where you're accepting an award or something. Amazing outfit choice for an event like that
Piano recital lol
whoa, that's some eclectic attire you had there!
It's called power clashing 😂
The third picture is my favourite... There's just so much going on.. The hat.. The prints... Suddenly bright pink shoes and socks.. Beetles tshirt.. What an outfit
This is like Harper from wizards of waverly place Campiness
*slide 1* *slide 2* nah, this is just normal kid stuff, she looks—*slide 3* oh..
I kinda love the poncho tho
“Okay dear which animal print are you going to wear today?” “Yes”
I think you’re absolutely adorable 🥰
That beatles fit is the shit tho
I don't know why but I actually kinda like the first one
Outfit number is next level. It might be a level or two down but definitely next level.
Pic 3 is so damn awesome! You rocked.
I adore you.
Ok this is the essence of the early 2000s to me 👌
Willow?
I love number 3 tho
3 is giving me cousin Eddie vibes. But you were just expressing yourself!
The last one is very Anthropologie!
Every day is a good day for a bad taste party! 🤣
Lmaoooo is the bow tie part of the shirt, or did you add that little accessory yourself??
The poncho wasn’t that bad
I bet from this that you have a fantastic dress style now though.
Definitely Disney Channel inspired
Kids with old parents be like
Not gonna lie, gladiator sandals felt super practical. Never felt like they were gonna fall off my feet.
Fit number 3 actually is pretty cool lol
The 3rd ensemble is killing me lololol I love it
Third outfit goes hard, middle school me would’ve wanted to be your best friend
K no, this is so cool! This is how I wished I had the confidence to dress at that age!
Unrelated, but I know that Paul Bunyan statue! Akeley, MN!
Was just about to comment the same thing
The "off" Y2k girl outfits on here just look to me like girls are wearing the trends of the time with whatever they had, and their parents didn't let them do enough shopping or get a large enough wardrobe to mix and match cohesively. Like if the size, colors, cut, print, etc. don't look that great it because people were pulling out whatever they did have to put those looks together.
It's okay OP, i also got my fashion inspiration from the disney channel original series lizzy maguire.
Wow, I used to dress like this too
Dude! I swear I had that same vest!
The first outfit gave me PTSD flashbacks
The bowtie
That second pic is totally me through several years of my uni degree.
Maybe you looked stupid but you were happy with the style back than and I dig this brave style even it's nowhere near to anything fashionable.
Outfit #3 is legendary.
Same energy as Mary from movie “All about Steve (2009)” https://www.google.com/search?q=all+about+steve&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&hl=en-us&client=safari
Third pic is incredible. 🤣
You have a lot going on all at once!!!
Ah, layering
Third pic is cool tho
pic #3 is kinda camp tho
I sense some Sidney Powell vibes, lol
I sense some inspiration from fashion icon Steve Urkel there
I can tell you came of age when Elle Girl and Teen Vogue was first printed. Save for the 2nd pic, this is all very "international street style pages" of those publications! I wanted to dress that cool so bad.
If it makes you feel better, I work with a gem of a lady who dresses like that in her 60’s.
It’s like in “Big Daddy” when he lets the kid start choosing his own clothes.
3 is solid
Peak 2000s fashion. ✨
i bet you have the sickest style now , tho!
Unironically would wear outfit #3 today minus the pink sock/shoe situation
N CBD noo maniS be I'll
Okay but how do you dress now because it looks like you had some character to you and I love it?!
Honest these are all harper from wizards or waverly place levels of iconic
Nah you had awesome parents who let you express yourself! Love this
I wanna know what your style is like now!! I feel like this would mature into killer style
#3 slaps IMO. What's the point of teenage fashion if not to have fun with it?
I love these. I would have been friends with you for sure. I had a collection of rainbow colored skinny jeans. We would have looked so good running through the mall together.
Hehe ❤️
Outfit 3 slays
its giving sims 2 and I'm here for it
If you were my kid, I'd be wondering every day what I did for you to come out so awesome.
No no … let her cook
Really loved that you just marched to the beat of your own drum. That's how my middle child is, and I love it so much
This is actually awesome
It's ~~terrible~~ impressive that you paired gladiator sandals and a pinstripe vest.
oh my god you look so cute 😭😭 im sorry but the way young adults used to dress is so incredibly endearing, it was a time where self expression didnt have as many borders as it does now. its harder to dress how you want if it isnt within an "aesthetic". these outfits are all so charming, maybe its because im 21 and i was a little kid seeing teenagers and adults dress like this all the time, but the eclectic confusing incoherent fashion of the 2000s-2010s will forever be so near and dear to my heart ♥️
My ten-year-old is like this. No matching, no consideration of pattern or style, just whatever.
Oh god I’d forgotten about the bow clips, I had so many of those in black, neon green and blue, and zebra print. Why did we do this?
I’m still digging look #1 tho.
There is a lot going on in that third pic, and I approve of all of it.
The poncho is hurling me through space and time
At the first two pics I was like "Naaah, we all need to go through this...". And then, suddenly - Oh, I see :)
Correct 🤣👌🏻
What, no camo and plaid?
You know what, I love it
Tbh this style is still a style. I know many adults who dress like this lol.. minus slide one.
I’m here for it
This that iCarly swag
3 and 5 😮💨
Number 3 is actually sensational. Where did you get those trousers from?? I want them!
Inspired by Disney 😭
I unironically love outfit 5
Agreed
I like your style
I love it! I let my five year old mix and match her clothes however she likes as long as it’s weather appropriate and clean—she’s got a similar aesthetic going and I hope she never stops!
All ya need is a Ukulele to complete the look
Suddenly glad my parents never took pictures of me.
My daughter dressed herself like this when she was 3, and we still look back in her outfits fondly. I bet you still have a fun sense of style!
I actually fucking LOVE this. You had flavour, girl!!
second isn’t bad at all! it’s a cute outfit. the rest look like disney outfits
The 2nd picture looks like a talk show tv psychic.
Had the same vest lol
Love your style btw. This showed you were creative and had cool parents probably (hopefully)
Slay
The knit pancho is giving me PTSD. I had one in pink and black. It was my most prized possession.
I feel like some of them were pretty in line with maximalist looks we see today you’re simply a visionary
Everyone has that one photo of them posing in front of or in a tree & it makes me feel seen
Counterpoint: it's better to make these mistakes (?) younger rather than when you're, say, 25. I say get that Disney channel aesthetic out at 13 or whatever because that's when everyone else is throwing together crazy outfits too.
It's giving my 5yo daughter's independent fashion choices. As long as you were happy, rock on
No shit is that the Paul Bunyan statue in Akeley, MN?
So iconic tho
This is the best one I’ve seen so far
You look like several members of my friend group.
The first picture has every trend from that era! Tiny vest, Leggings(but capri!), Graphic tee, Midi skirt that’s kinda tough and military like, The freaking sandals, The oversize sunglasses!! FASHIONISTA
#3 is the best one. We'd definitely had been friends in middle or highschool 😅
I live about 20 minutes away from that Paul Bunyan statue you're standing on!
Omg I think we may have shared a closet. 😂
Okay but #3 is actually iconic as fuck hahaha
13 going on 30
Nah fits are sick, some maturing in style taste and you’d be fresh af lol
Um WHAT? This is the best style I have ever seen! It’s unique and chaotic. I never had the guts to stand out too much. And I was always overly concerned if things “went together”. I still to this day worry about pairing black and brown together. I’m 32. 😬
ThIs Is WhO i Am!
Girl these are some EPIC combos
ok but you were lowkey a legend
Honestly, as a kid that age, that's exactly what you should be doing. Figure out your style at your own pace, without judgment. I've seen far worse from my classmates. I'm getting Disney Channel series character vibes.
Those outfits are peak 2000s
I love it because it's so bad.
That fashion brings me nostalgia 😭
That cheetah print outfit is incredible!!!!
Okay, third outfit is fuckin fire
WHY DID WE ALL HAVE THESE ARGYLE SOCKS?!?
It is youth' duty to look shitty and do cringe stuff, don't worry.
You have to crawl before you can be fly.
Ok BUT your fit in the 3rd picture is kinda fire. I like the maximalist aesthetic. Beatles t shirt is the only thing wrong with it lol
Look up the IG account watchingnewyork. These look like half the the outfits on there that they’re saying looking great.
Are you color blind?
Why were you dressed like Blossom in the first picture?
Yes you should! You look adorable and it's good to dress yourself so you learn to develop your own taste ♥️
Bravo
Yikes
I dig the fur hat one. Id wear it if it was longer pants
