I was born in a Massachusetts suburb and the rest is history. Green teamer for life

loving-father-69

I was born 35 years old, a little drunk, and rambling about Larry Bird even though I've only seen highlights

GuyMcTest

I was born with green pumping through my veins

RedGlovesOverHere

Raised in WORCESTER MASS baby

b4ttous4i

Apparently, I have this condition where I bleed green. So there want much of a choice.

The_SchoolBusDriver

My father was a fan and I became a fan once Larry Bird was drafted.

ethereal3xp

- Larry Bird - Ray Bourque - David Ortiz

ChoombasRUs

From Alaska, started as a Red Sox fan in 04 while in little league, from there I got into hockey and chose the Bruins, then when Kyrie got traded it piqued my interest in basketball

jascambara

Nothing better than a sunny Alaskan summer

igonnawrecku_VGC

My dad is a huge Philly sports fan, so I became a fan of every Philly team he watched, but he hated basketball, so I never became a Sixers fan. Didn’t get exposed to basketball until watching the Isaiah Thomas Celtics with my cousins up in New England. I instantly became a Celtics fan watching that team, but because I’m Philly everything else, I often get asked about it lol

AGABAGABLAGAGLA

hey when the inevitable phillies yankees world series happens this year, your philly baseball fandom will be welcome in boston

MrShotgunxl

Born here babe

Jmacz

Lived in Brockton my whole life, parents and grandparents all Celtics fans. Almost became a Bulls fan because I was 6 and the Celtics sucked back then lol. I remember asking my parents why we watched Jordan and not the Celtics when they were in the finals when I was like 5-6 years old. And my Dad just straight up said, "Because the Celtics fucking suck." My Mom immediately yelled at him. But it got me and my cousins to all crack up. They always talked glowingly of the Bird era and how good he was, and how they wished he was still playing. My grandfather would tell me stories about the OG Celtics and old football like Jim Brown and Gale Sayers. Only really remember starting to watch the Celtics once we had Pierce and Walker. But even then wasn't really watching consistently, was a fan but the Patriots and Red Sox were also the talks of the town at that point. Ironically the first year I really followed the Celtics was 2007, one of the worst teams we've ever had. I watched just about every game that year, followed the absolute shit out of them. I remember playing NBA Live 2007 and doing franchises and trading for Allen and Garnett when the rumors really started kicking in and going forward with Rondo and Perkins at the 1 and 5 like we ended up doing and feeling smart that I had called it. I always kept Gerald Green though, so I was upset when he ended up going in the trade for Garnett though. I do remember freaking out in excitement watching the draft when we traded Jeff Green for Ray Allen though. People seemed doubtful it was going to happen at that point or it would have happened before the draft, so when it happened at the draft it was crazy.

jascambara

Shouts out Brockton

Jmacz

I love Brockton, the fucking car insurance rates about to make me leave though.

mnshyn

First time on a basketball court as a kid, I asked my uncle what's the most points you can make on a single shot and he said 3. I asked who the best was at making a 3 point shot and he said Larry Bird. And that was that.

Plastic_Database_645

2008 I fell in love on how Rondo distributed the ball and how the Celtics doesnt have a one man team. All 4 of them were making plays as a team and I got amazed. I fucking hated a one man superstar aka Lebron/Kobe

AGABAGABLAGAGLA

my grandpa watched every Bill Russell home game in person and worked the scoreboard. my dad’s a diehard boston sports fan. i didn’t have much of a choice.

thetruth0102

2001 when we finally had a cable TV, watched the whole season, rooting for the Raptors back then but they got eliminated in the 2002 playoffs by the Pistons, rooted for the Celtics in the second round, then I fell in love with the team. I used the Celtics team in NBA Live 2003, I copied Paul Pierce shot, then my friends called me Paul Pierce when we play real basketball. And the rest is history.

agentjoe78k

Long story, I’ll try to keep it short. I’m 36 now but when I was young for some reason we would always wind up at my aunt and uncle’s house for Sunday dinner. My uncle’s wife (now ex wife) came from an Italian household so Sunday dinner was early. My Aunt’s mother (RIP) was a big time basketball fan and it always seemed like the Celtics were on or she would always mention them. She’s now passed away several years ago and I never got the chance to ask if she was a fan but that’s how I became a fan of basketball and more specifically the Celtics. Wish she was still around so I could thank her.

Independent_Worker67

I got a bootleg rondo jersey because my favourite colour was green when I was like 10 years old. Ever since I’ve rocked w the Cs.

fxkatt

My father was stationed at Newport, RI during WWll and was joined to all Boston teams thereafter. Which he passed onto me.

solarscopez

Ate an entire head of lettuce and a bag of brussel sprouts and was projectile shitting out green on the can the entire day. That was when I knew ☘️

jjbankst

I bought a KG action figure when I was a kid and started following then.

milespeeingyourpants

Grew up a fan, hooked after seeing Larry hit a game winning 3 in the OG Garden.

ElMalibu89

I was followed KG aka Big ticket from Minnesota to the Boston Celtics and then damn I like Celtics for lot of championships and also never forget dad showed me picture he was followed Larry Bird fan and Celtics fan too when he was 20s young something like that so we had same common and same blood line hahaha

lem0nst3r

My earliest memories were of Reggie Lewis, Dee Brown, John Bagley, Sherman Douglas, Kevin Gamble, Rick Fox, Xavier McDaniel, Dino Radja, Joe Kleine… how can you not love that bunch?

Anyanokoji

NBA LIVE 2000. My late uncle likes the Lakers, I want to beat him so he said I should use Boston.

FloweredWallpaper

1981/82. Our small midwestern town finally gets cable tv. One winter evening, I (age 14) was at a friends house who had cable (it was a while before we could get it out in the sticks) and he was flipping channels. On the USA channel, there was a Celtics home game, but I can't recall who they were playing (probably Philly). The court was mesmerizing, and they showed the banners during a timeout, and that was alluring as well. I had never seen a court like that, and the number of championships was impressive. Then there was this guy named Bird, who seemed like he knew what the hell he was doing. So the next day, I ventured to the school library and found a few books that talked about the Celtics and their history. And that was that.

ProfessionalAnt5415

I live in Los Angeles and my dad is a laker fan. First NBA game I ever watched was Celtics vs Lakers in 2009 at staples center and left my dad disappointed since he thought he’ll get me hooked with the Lakers but I walked out as a Celtics fan. Been a die hard fan ever since lol

MTRIFE

I was born

internetosaurus

My dad is from Boston and is a huge sports fan so he passed his fandoms on to me. I grew up in the NY area of CT, but if I had rooted for New York teams I think he would have disowned me.

Joten9123

Live in Texas and didn’t watch a lot of basketball growing up. One day my friends and I went to B Dubs and it just so happened to be during game 5 of the 2008 Finals. The entire restaurant was full of Lakers fans cheering, so I decided to be that guy and be the only dude cheering for the Celtics. I was 17 at the time and had a BUNCH of drunk Lakers “fans” giving me shit after the C’s lost. I should’ve went back 2 days later 🤷‍♂️ been a fan ever since. I’m a fan of all 4 Boston teams, each one has a different story but that’s just the way it shaped up. Must’ve been a Masshole in a past life.

FilTe

Ryan Gomes was from my area and when he got drafted It was a big deal. He got a group of people tickets to a game. We took a bus up and we went to the shoot around before the game. Few players came over and talked to us. Gomes, Ricky Davis and Okafor came over and were super nice. The game: Pierce hit the game winning layup with no time left over the Bobcats. Been hooked since.

RedHotFromAkiak

Listening to Johnny Most on the radio agonizing about how badly the opposition was mauling the Celtics players and lambasting the refs. Early '70s, post-Russell.

Own-Newspaper-6212

I grew up in Eastern Ky and my cousins had an old ball goal up the holler from my house. They were a few years older than me, taller than me and bigger than me. They used to bet me up from time to time and always roughed me up on the court. They were all Laker fans!! First basketball game I ever saw was game 7 of the 84 finals!! I’ve bled green and white ever since!!

iamgarron

Grew up in Hong Kong. People don't follow teams, they followed players, and hen I started understanding hoops more in high school my favourite player by far was Kevin Garnett. I moved to boston in 2006, KG gets traded a year later, and ive been a Cs/Bs/Pats/Red Sox fan since. Oh, and weirdly growing up I watched a ton of David E. Kelley shows so I always felt a weird connection to Boston.

ForeignRabbit1894

I was born and mostly raised in the deep south, but my mother was from Massachusetts so raised us to be good Celtics (and Red Sox and Bruins)fans. I have raised my kids the same way, so my son is one of the biggest Celtics fans around, even though he’s never even been to Boston. My kids have gone to Celtics games in our area (in their Celtics jerseys). One of these days I hope get them to a game at the Garden.

pinnacle100

As a 6 or 7 year old around 1980 (maybe 81 or 82), living in central California, and we had a family friend who was very good friends with a sports writer in Boston. This writer covered the Celtics from pretty close to day 1 and up into the 80s. One copy of a story he wrote that I remember was of Bill Russell stepping of the plane arriving in Boston for the first time as a Celtic. Anyways, for whatever reason he would send all kinds of memorabilia to me from the Celtics. It stuck and I've been a fan ever since.

JoJonesy

i'm from the lake

kervyrx7

Parents immigrated to Toronto in the 70s, and were huge sports fans. They became Celtics fans, and I was born before the Raptors existed. Grew up in a Celtics house, and never looked back.

WinterEngineering322

2002 Boston Celtics. Paul Pierce, Antoine Walker, Kenny Anderson, Tony Battie, Eric Williams. They had made it to the playoffs for the 1st time and it was one of the most exciting playoff runs I have ever witnessed. Became a die hard Celtics fan after that

kim_marmite

From France, I was a kid when I started playing Fifa 2005 (I think) on my GameCube. There was a trailer for NBA Live 2004 in which Garnett was singlehandedly winning a game against Kobe's Lakers. So I was fascinated by this player. But then I bought NBA Live 2005 and the two default teams for a single game were Atlanta Hawks vs Boston Celtics. I noticed Paul Pierce was the best player of the two teams and so started playing the Celtics. Fastforward a few years later, I receive a national magazine about the NBA with the Big Three on its cover which made me so happy and cemented my love for the team.

Responsible_Shirt381

Born and raised in Quincy mass baby

Witty_Ranger_9430

Moved to Boston 8 years ago. So I’m a little bit of a front runner but I’ve grown to love this team.

lufkinmj4

Born and raised in Maine. They were the only option!

MicaTorrence

Born in York County, Southern Maine. Remember watching Cousy and Sharman and Russell on a black and white tv. Yes, I am OAF.

trowdatawhey

My dad put it in my mom in Boston. And then they stayed in Boston for at least 9 months.

Consistent-Alarm9664

I live in Denver and love getting this question. How did you become a fan of (insert Boston team)? Got born in Dorchester and the rest is history.

SignatureFinal8368

2016-2017 Isaiah Thomas 😈

Sifl95

I always liked the idea of basketball and was intrigued but never really was able to watch it growing up, since my dad wasn't a fan, and access to watching it was not easy. When I was around 13-14 in 2008-2010, I'd try and catch the late night televised games if they were on. I noticed shaq on the Suns. I first kind of thought "Oh I know who Shaq is, I'll make the suns my team," but never really got too into it. That didn't last very long because one of those random nights I got to flip on basketball, the Celtics were on ESPN playing the Sun's . It was the beginning of the 2009 season, and I guess maybe I didn't know Shaq had left the Suns yet, but who I did see would playing captivated me like no other. Rajon Rondo. The way he played looked so different than anyone else out in the court. I was a little teen and saw this little guy (relatively) amongst giants, cutting them up and dishing out beautifully crafted assists on a pass-first mindset We lost the game, and Rondos statline wasn't anything insanely remarkable, but was still very solid (14 pts 10 ast.), but I was hooked on Celtics basketball from there on out. I started watching as many games as I could and really jumped into basketball fandom. I did grow up in Maine and New Hampshire for a good bit of my childhood (4-10), so that also probably played a bit of a contribution into Boston sticking for me. But honestly, Rajon Rondo holds most credit for my fandom of not just The Celtics, but basketball in general.
