Just a FYI for those who don’t know…
Found North’s blends aren’t traditional mashbills like you see in Bourbon. They blend a mixture of 100% corn whisky and 100% rye whiskey (different ages and barrel finishes) to arrive at the listed ratio (the small percentage of malt comes from the rye whiskey in the blend). So comparing Found North’s mashbill to other bourbons is really comparing apples and oranges…
With Found North that is always the answer lol. They’re in such demand now that even if you don’t end up liking it, you shouldn’t have any trouble trading it.
Yes, 100%. And because of that the rye influence is probably twice that the mixture % suggests as compared with a bourbon mashbill. The rye being aged on its own allows it to come into its own that much more, which will have a greater impact once blended.
A year or so ago, you could go onto the Found North site and order 3 or 4 different batches. Around Batch 7 they started to disappear quickly and the really limited releases like Hell Diver, Second Summit, etc., are selling out instantly. They're worth the hype though.
They're definitely good stuff. A local store had a tasting of multiple batches and I pulled the trigger on the last batch 6, don't regret it. I'm in MA though so I guess more likely to find

Right?! They knew they could capitalize on the sales based on the entries and rake that cash in right away, but without leaving us consumers feeling bitter about it. Especially since they apparently make an amazing product.
I'm glad Found North did it this way. It's more fair. I love their stuff and I drank a lot of it lol. But now that it's blown up like it has, more people get a fair chance, which I am happy about. But then to the entrants who didn't win, they say hey, well here's a chance to buy our Batch 009. Found North appreciates the customers who helped them have success, and they also want as many people as possible to have a chance, but they won't increase bottle volume if it means sacrificing quality.
Yeah, this was a great way to go about it. They've got a big chunk of 009 pre-sold while rewarding as many costumers as they possibly could. That's a win-win.
I take it more as a show of goodwill for their loyal customers. Pre-order or not, they weren't going to have any trouble selling Batch 009. They'll sell every single one and so will their retailers (unless it's some store out in the country and the local consumer doesn't know what it is).
Oh, absolutely. They don't have to worry about demand anymore. That said, no one has ever complained about collecting their payment too soon. It's a nice solution for everyone and I like that.
Batch 8 and Batch 6 both had relatively high corn in their blend since it was 87%, though not as high as the 91% in Batch 09, but both were great. I have also had a 99% corn mash bill from a Penelope Architect which was one of my favorite architect bottles I have had.
I'm waiting on a majority rye mashbill FN to be released again, 006 and 008 are outstanding but, I'm ready for them to focus on rye again for one of their batches
I interviewed Nick Taylor, and asked about another majority rye release. He said “we will release something later this year that’s a majority rye… but it won’t be a batch!” Here’s a timestamped link to his answer:

006 was the best so far. To say Found North is always improving isn't the case either. I was not particularly fond of 007, but that's just me. I appreciated being able to find Found North and buy a few bottles.
This whole raffle and consolation prize ordeal is not for me. There are other cask strength whiskies in the sea. All I forsee for Found North now are secondary prices. I am spending my monthly allotment for whisky elsewhere this month. I have several 006 and two Peregrine left. Taking a break.

Some do like those better. I have 004 through 008 (and Peregrine), and while I appreciate you can get FN at MSRP, the majority of customers cannot. I just bought a FN Single Barrel, and I just cannot deny the quality--so I pulled the trigger on buying the 009. The Second Season of FNSB is available and is the best Toasted / Double Oaked I've ever had. I tested against Woodford DO, Penelope Toasted, EC Toasted, Old Forester 1910, and more. It's just the best so far for me. I was hurt that I didn't get that beautiful Hell Diver bottle, but I now look forward to 009.
Preorders, yes. So, FN decided to give all the losers of Hell Diver the unique opportunity to preorder 009. I don't want to say it was a consolation prize, but it was a consolation prize. Now, winners of Hell Diver are going to have a slightly harder chance to get the 009 unless they want to pay boosted taxes or shipping through another liquor store.
So it's more that they can tell what the core flavors that will come out would be. Like for example, Batch 8, the core flavor that came out was the Madeira cask finish corn whiskey, even though that was only 4%
I'm milking the batch 3 rye but have loved everything. Closest I've found is a Willet 4yr rye but only one batch and it obviously didn't have that aged oak in the background
Don't worry. Found North doesn't miss. They just keep getting better. I expect nothing less than another banger. I didn't get selected for Hell Diver and not the least bit upset about it. Getting Batch 009 makes me happy.
This is the way. I was at the gym on the treadmill when I received my “sorry you didn’t get selected” email, but when I saw the offer for Batch 009, I looked at my wife on the treadmill next to me and said, “I’m going to the car real quick.” I couldn’t get out my CC fast enough, fearing this would be over in mere moments, lol. With FN, “he who hesitates is lost”.
Raffle was bullshit. IDK about them all being bangers. Just my opinion. I'll still buy Found North down the road, but I miss being able to buy a few bottles. 006 was the best. 007 wasn't my favorite. I can be patient and pass 009 to the next guy. Spending money on some BT this month.

I have multiple batches and have yet to be disappointed in anything they've produced. I also think their pricing is fair considering the initial release of 009 is 2500 bottles. They are priced about the same as MWND and their latest product has over 100,000 bottles in that bottling.

Nick Taylor actually talked about their quandary on what to do when releasing Hell Diver. They knew from what happened with Peregrine that something similar was likely to happen with Hell Diver. Do they reward the loyal fans that got them to where they are or try to make sure that everyone has a fair shot at getting a bottle?
I believe they did the right thing. In this world where you "have to have a relationship" or some thing similar they made it completely random. It didn't favor anybody and the customer new to Found North stood an equal chance as a loyal fan. As a business you want to both satisfy and reward your loyal customers but also encourage others to become new customers to your product.
100% agree. I just feel the "cool bottle" should have been the one for the fans. I've seen posts from you, Lions, etc. reviewing or commenting on Found North bottles only to lose to RNG. RNG is stupid. They should have just made it first come first serve. They did it with 009 right? I don't get it. Frustrating.

So it's not at 91% but the closest I can think of is Jack Daniel's mash bill which is 80% corn 12% malted barley and 8% rye.
I was also worried about the mash bill being such a high corn content but I ended up pulling the trigger since the pours of FN that I've had have all been excellent. I think with the old rye and with it being finished, it will be very flavorful. I wish they gave more tasting notes and more info about batch 009, but I know I would have regretted not getting it.

Canadian corn and mellow corn are going to be very different. I have little doubt FN009 will have a sweet side from the corn but it won't taste corny. Especially with their expertise you have little to fear of any of their blends

Curious if anyone was able to grab a bottle of Hell Diver off Shared Pour. I was refreshing the page at noon and managed to get it into my cart. Forgot they didn’t ship to my state and by time I entered an alternate address (~30 seconds) it had sold out.
Yes, i got one from shared pour. Refreshed right at 10:00 am pacific and was able to purchase, very glad because I lost the raffle (as I am sure most of us had lol)
I walked into my local honey hole literally TODAY after seeing the helldiver was sold out almost immediately upon release on sharedpour. Low and behold, next to the two other found north bottles they have was an empty spot with a label that said "Hell Divers" $149.99. I asked if they had any left they said, the manager may have tucked a bottle or two away in the back. The guy looked for me, but said he coulsnt find any...no big deal. He said, "yeah if you had gotten here bef9re 4 pm you might of snagged one"
I'm just pissed because I literally told myself, at like 2pm that I'll wait and stop by there a bit later today and see if they have it or not. I hate myself haha :P

7 is quite literally their only "miss". And I'm including at least 6 different single barrels I've tried from them. If you haven't had 003, definitely find that one.
I just ordered a Season 2 Single Barrel New Wood / Char 3 (Double Wood?). I'm down with trying single barrels where I can. **I still support Found North.** But (obviously from my repeat posts) I remain strongly against RNG sales. It is quite literally the opposite of fair. It's random. I was on my phone and ready to go for Peregrine. I think they did an okay job mitigating Hell Diver by at least stating they would match the ballot and billing addresses (I don't know how they confirmed these with winners and kept away repeat entries exactly). Why they didn't do a preorder type deal for Hell Diver (anything but RNG) I do not know. I'm not the only fan disappointed.
I haven't tried 1 - 3, but maybe I'll hunt one or two down. I'll go for the 003 (I've seen that rye around still). I have all the other entries. 006 is king for sure. I bought several bottles. Guess those days are over.
Excited for Batch 009, I have not had a Found North batch that has been disappointing. I have had 4 of their batches and have been blown away by every single one.
I really enjoy FN and have several different batches and a couple in reserve. Still have an unopened batch 1. Bought the Batch 9 yesterday as I struck out on the Hell Driver.
Same. I have everything except Second Summit and 001-003. I really loved the presentation of Hell Diver. I wanted Hell Diver. I'll pass on 009. 006 and Peregrine were best, and 006 the best of those two.
This whole raffle ordeal was not my jam. I got Peregrine because I was ready to order, as many others got Peregrine this way. Found North is now a coin toss too, and upped their MSRP from $159.99 to $164.99 with 009. Five bucks, but it's something. And not every Found North is equal. 007 was weak IMO. Jack Daniels SBBP Rye is easily superior. Although, that's another banger too.

I was really pleased with how they handled the raffle. A Facebook Friend (and fellow bourbon drinker) and I each did not win the raffle and both of us also passed on the 009 offer. But it was genuinely a nice consolation prize. I will certainly look out for it in the upcoming months.
That said, I got the call from my local shop (as did my friend) that there are bottles of Hell Diver with our names on them. The word is that our store got 12 bottles of Hell Diver in this shipment and they are trying to get more as some interested folks will not get the call.
MGP has a 99% corn mashbill. R/bourbon had a pick of it sourced by Old Hamer. I’m sure there are others reselling the same or distilling their own similar mashbill.
Yes, my point was regarding other similar or high corn ratio mashbills. That’s one I’m aware of. If MGP is producing that mashbill there are bound to be other labels out there sourcing and selling it. That’s not to say Found North is one of them. Nothing I know of indicates that at all.
Try looking for light whiskey if you want something with a high corn ratio.
I have the r/Bourbon one. It’s great. Different than anything I’ve tasted. It’s like if you took the Penelope American Light Whiskey, but aged it in a new charred oak barrel.
Raffle was kinda bullshit. I wanted the Hell Diver. THAT should have been first come first serve. Not ALL Found North I've had have been bangers either. Underwhelmed by 007. 006 was best at 10/10, and revisited Peregrine after having opened it and wouldn't say it's my favorite whiskey either.
Bothers me that some reviewers that have been active on Reddit etc. supporting Found North missed out to RNG.

I don't get why everyone is going bananas over Canadian whisky these days as it is some of the most uninteresting stuff out there save a few exceptions, but I wish you all the best and thank you for diverting attention from the superior Rye products we produce here in the states! You do yourself a disservice in assuming this is an uninteresting product and I truly wish you the chance to try it someday. This is from one who is an unabashed Found North fanboy and who also has more rye on the shelf than Found North.
Variety is the spice of life my friend so why limit yourself? Enjoying one thing doesn't preclude you or anyone else from enjoying other things too.

I was able to score a Heaven Hill 20 yr which is a corn mash bill. Haven't had a chance to crack that one yet.

That’s where I’m at. Obviously they have a decent track record now of solid juice, so doubting them based on a mashbill ratio is probably silly.
Canadian corn and mellow corn are going to be very different. I have little doubt FN009 will have a sweet side from the corn but it won't taste corny. Especially with their expertise you have little to fear of any of their blends

The raffle was stupid. They were sure ready to sell some 009 for the losers. Didn't buy the 009. Not paying higher prices or secondary either. I miss being able to see reviews BEFORE I buy Found North. Not all their entries were bangers IMO. 006 was the best batch. 007 was meh to me.

Also passed on 009. And I'm usually a Found North fan. But I miss being able to buy several bottles; this whole raffle business is not my jam. Wanted Hell Diver. Didn't get it. Have the best batches of Found North already (006 and Peregrine, though I have almost all). Found North has some great batches, but not where I'm spending my money this month. And not everyone is a winner. 006 blows 007 out of the water. 006 is my utmost favorite.
Never spent so much on a bottle before, but super stoked I was able to take part in this next batch. Curious if anyone was able to grab a bottle of Hell Diver off Shared Pour. I was refreshing the page at noon and managed to get it into my cart. Forgot they didn’t ship to my state and by time I entered an alternate address (~30 seconds) it had sold out.
I was trying sharedpour and seelbachs and struck out of both. Everything was loaded and ready to go. Sold out in seconds.

I walked into my local honey hole literally TODAY after seeing the helldiver was sold out almost immediately upon release on sharedpour. Low and behold, next to the two other found north bottles they have was an empty spot with a label that said "Hell Divers" $149.99. I asked if they had any left they said, the manager may have tucked a bottle or two away in the back. The guy looked for me, but said he coulsnt find any...no big deal. He said, "yeah if you had gotten here bef9re 4 pm you might of snagged one" I'm just pissed because I literally told myself, at like 2pm that I'll wait and stop by there a bit later today and see if they have it or not. I hate myself haha :P

Batch 007 though. Not as good (and I have 004-008 and Peregrine). I prefer the days of reviewing first, then buying. Found North isn't perfect.
7 is quite literally their only "miss". And I'm including at least 6 different single barrels I've tried from them. If you haven't had 003, definitely find that one.
I just ordered a Season 2 Single Barrel New Wood / Char 3 (Double Wood?). I'm down with trying single barrels where I can. **I still support Found North.** But (obviously from my repeat posts) I remain strongly against RNG sales. It is quite literally the opposite of fair. It's random. I was on my phone and ready to go for Peregrine. I think they did an okay job mitigating Hell Diver by at least stating they would match the ballot and billing addresses (I don't know how they confirmed these with winners and kept away repeat entries exactly). Why they didn't do a preorder type deal for Hell Diver (anything but RNG) I do not know. I'm not the only fan disappointed. I haven't tried 1 - 3, but maybe I'll hunt one or two down. I'll go for the 003 (I've seen that rye around still). I have all the other entries. 006 is king for sure. I bought several bottles. Guess those days are over.

Excited for Batch 009, I have not had a Found North batch that has been disappointing. I have had 4 of their batches and have been blown away by every single one.
I really enjoy FN and have several different batches and a couple in reserve. Still have an unopened batch 1. Bought the Batch 9 yesterday as I struck out on the Hell Driver.
Same. I have everything except Second Summit and 001-003. I really loved the presentation of Hell Diver. I wanted Hell Diver. I'll pass on 009. 006 and Peregrine were best, and 006 the best of those two. This whole raffle ordeal was not my jam. I got Peregrine because I was ready to order, as many others got Peregrine this way. Found North is now a coin toss too, and upped their MSRP from $159.99 to $164.99 with 009. Five bucks, but it's something. And not every Found North is equal. 007 was weak IMO. Jack Daniels SBBP Rye is easily superior. Although, that's another banger too. I already miss being able to buy a few bottles at once. I miss being able to see reviews BEFORE buying. Not paying secondary for Found North. Not happening.

I was really pleased with how they handled the raffle. A Facebook Friend (and fellow bourbon drinker) and I each did not win the raffle and both of us also passed on the 009 offer. But it was genuinely a nice consolation prize. I will certainly look out for it in the upcoming months. That said, I got the call from my local shop (as did my friend) that there are bottles of Hell Diver with our names on them. The word is that our store got 12 bottles of Hell Diver in this shipment and they are trying to get more as some interested folks will not get the call.

MGP has a 99% corn mashbill. R/bourbon had a pick of it sourced by Old Hamer. I’m sure there are others reselling the same or distilling their own similar mashbill.

Yes, my point was regarding other similar or high corn ratio mashbills. That’s one I’m aware of. If MGP is producing that mashbill there are bound to be other labels out there sourcing and selling it. That’s not to say Found North is one of them. Nothing I know of indicates that at all. Try looking for light whiskey if you want something with a high corn ratio.
There was a 99% r/bourbon Barrel too.
I have the r/Bourbon one. It’s great. Different than anything I’ve tasted. It’s like if you took the Penelope American Light Whiskey, but aged it in a new charred oak barrel.
Raffle was kinda bullshit. I wanted the Hell Diver. THAT should have been first come first serve. Not ALL Found North I've had have been bangers either. Underwhelmed by 007. 006 was best at 10/10, and revisited Peregrine after having opened it and wouldn't say it's my favorite whiskey either. Bothers me that some reviewers that have been active on Reddit etc. supporting Found North missed out to RNG. And here comes the secondary. Other fish in the sea.

I don't get why everyone is going bananas over Canadian whisky these days as it is some of the most uninteresting stuff out there save a few exceptions, but I wish you all the best and thank you for diverting attention from the superior Rye products we produce here in the states! Good luck on your newest chase bottles!
You do yourself a disservice in assuming this is an uninteresting product and I truly wish you the chance to try it someday. This is from one who is an unabashed Found North fanboy and who also has more rye on the shelf than Found North. Variety is the spice of life my friend so why limit yourself? Enjoying one thing doesn't preclude you or anyone else from enjoying other things too.
