Boygenius has no bad songs, too small of a discography and too good of music

The worst doesn’t necessarily mean bad. For me winning $1000 dollars is worst option between winning that and winning $10000 and living in a world where I don’t need to rely on winning money lol but that’s still a pretty good option

It was the first song I heard of the band (and my personal favourite)

I really like it as well. Just wondered if I was missing something since I don’t really listen to the radio just downloaded their albums/eps, etc.

I am just guessing because the boys actually won a Oscar for Not Strong Enough, so I am guessing it is well loved lol. Also, the song appears on the top tracks on my streaming app.

For me it‘s Black Hole. I love each and every boygenius song but I feel like this one is simply not (supposed to be) their strongest one.

‘Leonard Cohen’ in my opinion. Some good ideas but feels a bit half baked at points.

Sorry but what!? Thats one of my favorite of theirs. It’s a song about vulnerability and not only did they write about it, they realized it by presenting it half baked and basically raw.

I think any song on this thread is going to be controversial to be fair. I get what they were going for and don’t think it’s awful or anything, but think it retreads themes which are already present (and better executed) on other songs. There’s no particular melodies/instrumentals or lyrics that stand out as superb, and it feels a bit forced at times. I feel like it’s fairly comparable to ‘Christine’ by Lucy, which also does a better job.

I’ll check out’Christine’. But you’re right, it’s a controversial topic. I just happen to connect with the song in a way others might not.

Obviously it’s all subjective so ‘worst’ kinda lacks meaning, it’s just my opinion and I’m happy it’s connecting with some people!

This won’t be a popular opinion here but I don’t love Cool About It While I appreciate the sentiment behind the lyrics, I find songs with interpolated melodies annoying. The Simon & Garfunkel plinky-plunkiness of it all really gets in the way of me emotionally connecting to the lyrics in the same way as I do with other boygenius songs.

super hot take but it’s a split between cool about it and not strong enough. i hate pop music and only listen to alternative (think phoebe style and shoegaze) and not strong enough is just too poppy mainstream sounding for me, although i understand that when a band is trying to win awards they put a more mainstream song on the album (radio single) and that’s why it sounds different than the rest of the album. the second skip would be satanist, but the slow bit at the end saves it. for cool about it, i absolutely love the lyrics and tempo, but i simply just hate the plucky banjo. still love bg sm and have seen them live, just those specific songs are not my taste. also im appalled by all the revolution 0 haters, and all the hate towards julien-focussed songs (even though i do understand everyone has their opinions)

I didn’t love Satanist until I saw it live and it was just SO fucking good. Now I love it.

I’ve heard this take and it sure confuses me. Just can’t get into it? I vibe with the three verses and how they play off each other. Also I’m a exvangelical and I vibe with satanism, anarchism, and nihilism so i think they wrote it for me.

Ya, I mean it’s not unique to this song but I love the switch of each of them getting a verse and each of them singing a harmony, their voice combos on each verse are perfect. And you really got to get into the swing of it, the guitar hits are great with the softer parts surrounding it

If the lyrics weren’t so meaningful to me I would probably somewhat agree. I love Lucy’s voice but if you’re not paying much attention to what she’s saying in the song it can seem a bit dreary
