Public transit service is not spectacular on the lower Sunshine Coast. Google Maps transit directions have up to date routing information - consult it carefully before you decide where you're staying if you're not bringing a vehicle. There are other options such as Taxis or [Coastal Rides](https://coastalrides.ca/) but it's definitely a rural area.
As others have noted late summer kayaking can be quite spectacular. Try reaching out to [Alpha Adventures](https://www.outdooradventurestore.ca/), [Sunshine Coast Kayaking](https://www.sunshinecoastkayaking.ca/), or [Pedals and Paddles](https://pedalspaddles.com/).
I can say that paddling Sechelt Inlet in Late September is pretty freaking glorious when the weather is kind. There are a couple of guest houses and some kayak rental places up in there, as well as a provincial park with a nice campground, and some spaces accessible only by boat.
Note that the bears are hungry and the mink are impertinent.

1-Yes 2-No public transport is scarce to non existent 3-Unless you have your own transportation you'll be hitchhiking-does that appeal?

The buses will only get you so far, most of the good trails and places worth seeing are not on bus routes. I would recommend renting a car.
