This happened to a buddy of mine except they burglarized their house.
We found his camera and bag for sale on the Facebook marketplace the next day and the police said unless you have proof aka a serial number or proof of purchase linking the exact item there was nothing they could do.
We had the scum bags name and photos online of his camera and bag and yet nothing was done about it.

As much as it sucks, a warrant to confiscate property will require absolute proof. Being the same model/bag isn’t enough even though I do believe you that it was the actual camera. Why you should always have records of serial numbers for valuables.

I feel ya... As someone who's had their laptop stolen twice (I'm a fuck wit) I never leave my stuff in the car. Just for sure have this as a once learned lesson unlike myself
I’m not an insurance person, but check to see if the car insurance policy covers break in and theft.
Or homeowner's/renter's insurance
It would fall under renters or homeowners insurance
