I use a leica laser scanner. Works great and can import as a dxf of dwg. I use it to import into AutoCAD though.

Def not a 5 min scan. I've been wanting to get a small BLK scanner and work with point clouds, that would gather all info you will ever need, no need to return to site, unless to check on mechanical placements.

It can be as fast as you want. A square simple room can take less than 10 minutes. I’ve scanned complex radius walls in less than 30 minutes.

Thank you for the input. The base model Leica looks like it's around $30k. What model do you have? I understand spending that kind of money to 3d scan whole houses and upscale commercial customers but I'm talking about kitchens. Hopefully someone has an inexpensive option.

We have the 3D Disto. And I would go with one directly from them. Don’t buy from a vendor who has software that works with it. We went that route and the software very bad. I use the software from Leica and very happy with it. And we didn’t pay anywhere near 30k. Mid teens is what we pay I think and that was from a software company.

I’m curious about these as well. My main concern when I started looking into them was tolerance levels. We aren’t machinists but we also aren’t landscapers trying to estimate square footage for hard scape

Look into these guys. [https://shop.leica-geosystems.com/ca/measurement-tools/disto/disto-laser-distance-meters](https://shop.leica-geosystems.com/ca/measurement-tools/disto/disto-laser-distance-meters)

I think this is what I'm looking for. Thank you. This is accurate and at the right price point. $2k for the kit. I'm sure the automatic 3D scanner is really nice but the price is more than 5x the price. I usually only measure up kitchens so it's not like I'm going to be spending hours manually moving the pointer. This is faster than pulling out a level and tape for faces that aren't flat. It's nice to be able to inform the customer that the floor is off by 2" over 8ft so the kickplate is going to look funny. AND show it on a drawing quickly. One time we had 2 walls that weren't square and the kitchen just fit in-between them (we got lucky that it fit) and their was supposed to be a 1-1/2" gap. We dodged a bullet on that one and ever since then I spend the time to measure more accurately.

I bought a D2 not realising the export for dxf is paid not free, which is annoying but not a deal breaker

Some cabinet shops already have that, and more. A laptop and a laser get all the dimensions, the laptop comes up with a suggested cabinet layout. Changes can be made based on customer input. Then the laptop does the type of wood, finish, and profiles using operator/customer input. When it comes up with a price, and the customer signs a contract, the computer does CAD files material lists, cultists, and build instructions.

I'm sure they already have "that". I'm looking for the names of the hardware and software.
