I have the Napier truck tent which I use when I’m solo camping. It’s decent quality and have used it in pouring rain without issue. It can be annoying to set up because you have to empty the bed before you can set it up. You also have to make sure your truck is relatively level.

Does that have an opening to use the sliding back window? I have a sliding back window and if possible would like to get in the truck from the tent.

Nope.

Yes... the higher end model (blue and grsy with the awning) has a back window thst unzips to.allow access to the trucks back slider window. Worked for napier for a few years and helped the owner redesign/work out the kinks with a few tents

I like to roll with a hard topper with side vents and pack a tent. Dangerous storms or extreme cold, I’m in the truck bed. Nice camping weather gets the tent. Don’t have to worry about people stealing shit at any time. If I’m in the truck bed, I’ll use the tent for storage.

I use a Rightline SUV tent that snugs over the hard top with the tailgate down and the window up. Minuses: like with many of these, the poles are fiberglass with metal joints that makes sliding them through the tent sleeves a PITA. Also, the setup is counter-intuitive since the poles do not cross over in the middle like a letter X. The cross piece is about 1 1/2" too long and it works out just fine to take a hacksaw to it. Pluses: setup gets easier with practice. You sleep inside your truck bed with the hard topper which gets you off the ground and pretty weather proof. The SUV tent is like getting a 4-person tent living room; we can stow our bags under the tailgate, and set out a couple of camp chairs for chilling or changing clothes. The screened windows and door of the tent are contiguous with the open truck bed so cross ventilation in warm/hot weather is excellent. You can also leave the sliding rear window open to get access to the truck interior. It's perfect for camping with the dog, who just sleeps inside the tent or the rear seat of the truck depending on conditions. Also, it's easy to detach from the truck and re-attach so you can drive away and do whatever while your site still looks occupied. I generally bring a shade tarp or EZUp with me which gives me additional shade and shelter.

Just my $0.02 I asked myself... How often do I need to jump in my truck and grab something or move the truck. Even wood from the front gate, or a drive to the amenities, toothpaste, anything. Where I am you have to buy wood at the park. I always underestimate how much I need. Shit always burns fast. You're gonna have to take it down then set it back up. You'll never be disappointed with a nice tent and if you wanted to hike in or backcountry camp, you can use it then also.

The umbrato I got on amazon is actually pretty awesome. Just make sure you get the right bed length.

2021 Ford Ranger, 6' bed, got a Rightline. Haven't had issues other poster mentioned. Been back and forth with either an air matress or a folding cot, latter is becoming my preference. It's been good in a medium wind and light rain with no issues. It is a little particular on initial setup and rigging (RTFM!) but once I got that figured out, no problems. Did see a couple youtube vids of complaints, they were all improper rigging configs.

Ive got Joytutus from Amazon and it works great for me, even their customer service is great. The tent I ordered was missing one strap and hook which I could have made myself. Anyways I messaged them and they sent a second tent and had me keep the other which I gifted to my brother who I knew had tons of spare straps and hooks.

We have the Rightline 8 foot and absolutely love it. As far as others saying that if you want to go to town it's a hassle, it really hasn't been for us. Since it just clips to the truck (no floor, which is something I i was worried about but haven't had issue with to date either) we just pull it off, set it on the ground and deflate the air mattress & we're off. It's such a fun looking tent that we've made lots of friends because people want to come chat about it. We've taken it to festivals, a fairly posh campground, and off in the back country with no issue. Seems sturdy and I want to say that it came with a warranty as well. Make sure you get the size you need for your truck bed, and the same goes for your air mattress or cots. Happy camping!

The tent is an iKamper Skycamp Mini which has a hard shell and also locks. When the weather is bad I just sleep in the bed and leave the tent put away (the truck has a 6’5” bed and a I’m 6’4” so it just works). Otherwise I sleep above and the back is where I keep my gear. The iKamper is totally fine in pouring rain, but doesn’t do so well in violent winds so when I say “bad weather” I mean thunderstorms, hail, and tornadoes. I was inside once for a “microburst” and it was not a good time. This is what I use for “glamping”. I do wilderness backpacking and whitewater canoeing and for those it’s all about lightweight and compact sizes.
